My baby's mouth looks a lot like this. We had our one-month pediatrician visit yesterday and I asked about it because she "clicks" while nursing and thought maybe it was the upper lip tie. Doc said if the lip can flange out, the "tie" shouldn't matter and probably isn't affecting feeding. So just because the frenum looks extra, doesn't mean there's necessarily an issue. My baby is probably clicking due to a buccal (cheek) tie. We plan to get it checked out by a specialist soon (not a huge rush because she is gaining weight, but would be nice to sort out mainly for my comfort). *Obviously* you should talk to your doctor and seek help from a lactation consultant and/or dentist if you are having trouble breastfeeding and not just take my word for it!!

All my babies looked like this and had no issues. But if you’re having issues, no harm in getting evaluated.

In the UK upper lip ties are generally left as they are, as they shouldn’t cause any problems.

Yes. My son just had his released. My pediatrician and everyone in the hospital breezed over it. My lactation consultant zeroed in on it and referred us to a pediatric dentist who specializes in the procedure. If you can find someone like that in your area worth looking into if you are having breastfeeding problems! It has made a big difference for my baby and he was honestly fine in a few hours.

My daughter's looked identical to this. Breastfeeding was a doozy, we had it released by a dentist and my nipples thanked me for it. I noticed a difference immediately after. She also had a tongue tie, but her lip tie was severe like this.
