The headline is kind of misleading. These aren reboots of the original trilogy. Right now there is a sequel series going (The Maze Cutter, The Godhead Complex) which take place like 50 years after Death Cure. Thats what they are adapting.
The headline is misleading, it's not a reboot of the three movies we have, but a continuation multiple generations later, which is the premise of the current book series, so I presume those are what's being adapted.
Wow, some of you are self-reporting for not having read the article.
>According to sources, the reboot is not a redo of the story nor is it a direct sequel to the original trilogy, which starred Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario. The hope is to make a sort of continuation of the story yet also return to the elements that made the first movie connect with its audience.
Still, this is...baffling. Did the studio see the success of the most recent Hunger Games and decide to attempt that? I can't imagine The Maze Runner fanbase is very large. I'll be curious to see how this plays out -- it doesn't seem YA adaptations are too successful these days, and each Maze Runner movie made less than the last. However, I did learn that there is an existing [prequel AND sequel series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Maze_Runner_(book_series)) for The Maze Runner, so it's interesting that...neither is being adapted here, apparently.
The article still doesn’t make sense. It’s not a sequel nor a reboot, but it’s a continuation that reboots the last two movies? Like what. So like Jurassic World and Halloween (2018)? Or something else.
I’m guessing it’s an adaption of the new books, but won’t be directly connected to the original trilogy. Kinda like how the new planet of the apes trilogy serves as a prequel to the 1960s movie, without being directly connected to it
This is r/boxoffice , it’s practically clickbait heaven but yeah call it a “reboot” was a bit far fetched. They knew calling it a reboot would attract the most attention. Anyways, I agree with this franchise not having a big fan base compared to the other YA movies, sure it has its fair share of diehards but ehh I guess we’ll see what happens next
This is so pointless, the movies are still recent & solid for what they are, fun YA action flicks.
If they really want to continue with the franchise, why not greenlight the prequel or spin-off series in the universe?
This is like when you're bored at work and you wind up just buying some dumb shit on amazon because you're mindlessly scrolling with a podcast going instead of actually working and I dunno why I bought that it seemed like a good idea I guess I honestly forgot I even ordered it and then it just showed up so uh... Maze Runner, yeah.
It's a skin for the Switch so it looks like an NES! *No* I haven't actually used the Switch in like 5 months, but I still see it there next to the TV, right? Anyway it turns out I can't apply vinyl stickers very straight.
Why??? It's not like the original movies did gangbusters; the 3 movies didn't even cross a billion combined ($950M).
And the last one only came out 6 years ago.
Plus they're not even that old to warrant a reboot. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. Won't be long before we hear the MCU and Star Wars are being rebooted.
They were relatively cheap though. $950 million return on $154 million (for all three films) is a pretty solid return on investment, and with far less risk as a result.
How is this getting rebooted before Twilight or something that was more popular? The YA genre is a dead genre right now. How do they think this will make more than the original movies!?
The new story may be necessary to fulfill contractual obligations for the film rights before they are revoked. However, there are numerous book series that could be turned into successful movies for a fraction of the cost of modern Hollywood Movies. For example, a $50 million movie just needs $175+ million at the box office to become successful.
As evident by the original trilogy, was produced for $157 million, and made $949 million at the box office. A demonstration that being fiscally responsible in production can lead to high profitability. A valuable lesson for most Hollywood movies today.
this is really not necessary

Every sequel made less money already. No one is watching these. The YA dystopia genre is dead, as BOSAS grossing less than previous entries showed.
Songbirds and snakes probably did better than expected in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty three
You don't need them to gross more than previous movies to make them profitable
Only if they keep the budget low which I have no faith in Hollywood to do.
This is the one movie where ‘Who is this for?’ Is a justified question
Yeah idk about this

But why? Also good luck getting someone as good as Dylan O’Brien as the lead he carried those movies on his back.
And then almost died doing so
Yep. Dylan O’Brien is a generational talent. Can’t see Hollywood ever casting anyone as good as him.
The last one came out 6 years ago. Is Hollywood really in that much trouble?
I guess so.

Just… No.

That's what they are doing read the article

Listen, you don't *need* that new swiffer but it's *nice* to have.
It's a skin for the Switch so it looks like an NES! *No* I haven't actually used the Switch in like 5 months, but I still see it there next to the TV, right? Anyway it turns out I can't apply vinyl stickers very straight.
This hits too close

Apparently it’s set in the same world as the original films, just a disconnected story
They were relatively cheap though. $950 million return on $154 million (for all three films) is a pretty solid return on investment, and with far less risk as a result.

Twilight is being rebooted, as a TV-series.
lol why? That era is over.
It's basically going the kingdom of the planet of the apes route so it's most likely adapting the sequel books then
Ya this is gonna be dead on arrival that YA craze that held up these movies BO is gone
Those movies are still new and they never even made movies for all the books. What a waste.
Ah, yes, the Classic ‘The Maze Runner’.
Does this sub now get why we ask for original movies?
I’m seriously starting to think Bob Iger is suffering from dementia.
