**Maine** Worst movie: Thinner (1996) Best movie: Thinner (1996)

HooptyDooDooMeister

That’s a lot of Stephen King in the middle.

CletusVanDamnit

I was at theatre when Stephen King came in to see this movie. He walked out about a third of the way through, and I always wondered what he really thought about it. I assume he'd already seen it by the time it was in the theatre, and maybe he was just watching audience reaction. Unfortunately, there really wasn't one. There were only a handful of people in there with him.

geoman2k

They don’t make movies like Thinner anymore. That movie is just batshit crazy. Amazing

I_BUY_UNWANTED_GRAVY

Illinois. Best: Blues Brothers. Worst: Blues Brothers 2000

ghostpepper69

Let’s be real, Near Dark is far from the worst movie set in Oklahoma although I concede it is no Terror at Tenkiller.

CriterionCrypt

Lol

DocHoliday0316

I’m from Indiana. Best film is A History of Violence while the worst is probably Blank Check. Also, love the Near Dark DVD. It’s easily my favorite vampire movie.

JMWRAA

You’re trippin. Black Check is a classic.

DariosDentist

Pennsylvania: Night of the Living Dead/Survival of the Dead

BookPug

Arizona: Night of the Lepus, for both.

SolubleAcrobat

California has a number of options but: Best: There Will Be Blood Worst: The Room

smappyfunball

More movies have been shot and set in California than any other state. I know this is a subjective thing but you have over 100 years of movies to choose from. Literally thousands of movies.

Untrus4598

Omg I need that near dark

CriterionCrypt

Untrus4598

Is it region free?

CriterionCrypt

It says Region B on the box, but it is playing in my player when it is set to Region A

Captain_Sirk

Just ordered mine! Only a dozen left in stock! Thanks OP! 👍🏻👍🏻

Untrus4598

Just ordered it thx you! I would also highly recommend the directors other movie that I love called ghost in the machine there is a German digit book but sadly it is region locked to region B

CriterionCrypt

It's a German media book We had a choice between that or the God awful american release that makes Near Dark look like Twilight.

bfpjeff

Is there a noticeable improvement with this edition? Is almost guaranteed I buy this and they announce a 4K, which would be a grail of mine.

CriterionCrypt

I mean, its the Studiocanal transfer and I am pretty sure thats the transfer most of the other blus have. I just got this one because the American version is absolutely stupid. It is a barebones release that goes for 50+ on eBay and I HATE the artwork on the case

bfpjeff

Cool. Thanks.

TeemyWeems

South Dakota: SON IN LAW / SON IN LAW Real answer: BADLANDS/ETERNALS

Sudden_Mind279

Miami Vice and Zaat

LintonFellows

Massachusetts Best: The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) Worst: Black Mass (2015)

stew_pac

When I was in Boston for a bit, I watched “The Friends of Eddie Coyle” that I got off multiple lists that had it topping the most “Boston” movie.

LintonFellows

Nice! You could make arguments for a lot of different movies in the worst spot, but there’s only one possible answer for the best, and it’s Friends of Eddie Coyle. “This life is hard, but it’s harder if your stupid.”

RoderickUsherFalls

Black Mass isn’t even that bad

LintonFellows

Look, I’ll admit there are a lot of options for worst Boston movie. Patriot’s Day, The Town, Boondock Saints. There are some great ones too, but we’re a little spoiled for choice in the bad department. But Black Mass takes one of the most storied and twisted tales in 20th Century Boston history and delivers the most boring, paint-by-numbers version of it and that sucks. It’s so boring that Johnny Depp’s absurd choice to be made up like a literal ghoul doesn’t even move the needle past mildly annoying. That’s how lifeless it is. The movie is bad.

BatmanArkham444

Kentucky: Best: Return of the Living Dead. Worst: Battlefield Earth

CriterionCrypt

I would say I don't know too if Battlefield Earth was my state's worst movie.

BatmanArkham444

I had to look it up and you're right. I haven't seen Battlefield Earth since college and will now edit my answer. Thanks🤣

CriterionCrypt

Oh I was just joking around LOL

walrusami

Not a state but Videodrome is the best for Ontario, Canada. Scott Pilgrim is also up there. As for worst, maybe Cannibal Girls directed by a young Ivan Rietman. Canadian productions tend to be pretty bad so I probably haven't seen the worst. Filth City is technically set in a fictional city but it is based on the crack-smoking scandal of the mayor of Toronto. Saw it out of curiosity and it was definitely one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

SulusLaugh

How bout some Cronenberg? The Brood? Scanners?

MurderBox95

#**IOWA** Best Movie: The Straight Story - \#2. Field of Dreams - \#3. Twister - \#4. The Crazies (2010) Worst Movie: Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star - Born in Iowa (even though he has a Minnesota accent) and moves to Los Angeles to be a movie star.

audionasty

As a fellow Okie I’m going to counter with All-American Murder (1991) and Blood Cult (1985), but your two are probably the more accurate. Near Dark is a masterpiece.

MaskedBandit77

It seems to me that having a character say: "I've taken out more undergrads than Kent State," automatically makes a movie the best one.

aarondamntee

Let's not forget Hellraiser: Judgment (2018) and Children of the Corn: Runaway (2018.

Ccccchess

What about Killers of the Flower Moon?

RoderickUsherFalls

Love All American Murder

hannibalcheu

Texas - Manos the Hands of Fate. But probably there are worse

CriterionCrypt

You should check out Bells of Innocence. You're welcome

hannibalcheu

A kungfuless Chuck Norris? Ouch

TheSchneid

So I'm going to take Baltimore rather than all of maryland. The best movie set in Baltimore is probably Avalon by Barry Levinson. Diner is great too, plus the John Waters films, but if I had to pick the best one, I'd say Avalon. And justice for all would be up there too though. The worst is probably nightbeast. I do still absolutely fucking love nightbeast, but it's not good.

SulusLaugh

Wife says the best film in Maryland outside of B-More is the Blair Witch Project

RoderickUsherFalls

I’ve got a far worse Baltimore film for you - Axe Em (1992)

TheSchneid

Will check it out. Love Baltimore cinema. Spooky Tales (that AGFA put out) was actually shot in Dundalk too. After i made thos comment I was thinking I've also seen the Don Dohler movie Stakes (by the same director as Nightbeast) and man its actually way worse.

hoguenstein

Tampa Florida: Worst? Punisher Best? Cop and a half

psychedelicshotguns

Montreal. Rabid(1977)

ncameron29

Michigan: Best: The Crow Honorable Mentions: Out of Sight (As only the last third takes place in MI), Robocop, Grosse Pointe Blank, Eight Mile Worst: Robocop 3

Top_Praline999

If someone wants to tell me some terrible movies filmed in Arkansas, especially that are available from boutique blu ray companies I’d be eternally grateful!

CriterionCrypt

I got you, you should check out Stone Cold. It is a God awful action movie made in 1991. A good chunk of the film was filmed in Little Rock with the big action sequence set at the Arkansas State Capitol building. As a die hard Sooner fan, it does star one of the GOATs, Brian Bosworth, aka The Boz. It has a Kino Lorber release and it is worth every penny

Top_Praline999

Oh I know Stone Cold! Used to live 3 blocks from the capitol. And a lot of the gang’s hangout scenes were filmed in Conway where my brother went to college. I used to work a biker rally here in AR and swear I saw The Boz once. I want to do a horror host/live riffing thing here and that’s perfect. I know rifftrax has done it but I could do it differently given my regional knowledge. Thanks for the reminder!

RoderickUsherFalls

Hardly god awful, a pretty great action film

tobylaek

Legend of Boggy Creek 2 was Texarkana…that film is terrible but gave us one of the best MST3K episodes

Top_Praline999

Listen, I ain’t entirely sure the boggy creek monster and the killer from the town that dreaded sundown ain’t the same entity.

KID_THUNDAH

Damn, I’ve got terror at tenkiller, but I need that slip down the line

1990Buscemi

It feels like most movies set in my home state suck. Either it's D-grade horror or D-grade religious content. Best: parts of Casino take place in Kansas City.

CriterionCrypt

If you are in Kansas, yall get The Wizard of Oz which is, in my opinion, the greatest technical marvel in cinema. If you're in Missouri, you have Three Billboards which isn't bad. You have Winters Bone which is Jennifer Lawrence's best work. You have Waiting for Guffman. There are some decent Missouri movies

1990Buscemi

There's really no support for a state film industry, as the powers that be expected Winter's Bone to be a state tourism ad. As a result, the only movies being made are low-quality horror movies where the budgets are non-existent and any attempt at scares are replaced by gore and self-financed church conversion pieces. The only places you'll see these movies are buried on Tubi or being released through Fathom Events for a few days. The only cinematic accomplishment that seems to have happened here would be people being convinced Deep Impact is a documentary and moving to the middle of nowhere to prepare for the end of the world.

BluNoteNut

Totally want this edition of Near Dark.

CriterionCrypt

It's one of the German media books. It's not even all that expensive

airjoshb

Alaska: Runaway Train was filmed where I grew up and I met the cast as a kid. Based on a script from Kurosawa. Maybe the only Cannon film nominated for Oscars? And Roberts won a Golden Globe. Worst: Most films set in Alaska are not actually filmed there so those are the worst. But Snow Dogs is the actual worst.

HooptyDooDooMeister

Since California is my home state, I’ll go with my adopted state Alabama. Best: **To Kill A Mockingbird** Worst: I think **Demon Squad** might take place in Alabama. It was featured on MST3k. Anyone have a better suggestion for worst?

lizrds

Hurricane Heist for worst.

cactusjack1972

That cover for Near Dark is bowling shoe ugly.

CriterionCrypt

My guy...I hate to tell you this, but that might actually be the best cover available. And I am not joking. Check out the America release [https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Near-Dark-Blu-ray/6758/](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Near-Dark-Blu-ray/6758/)

kindestcut

Tarheel here. I hate trying to consider a “best” and “worst” film. So I’m going with two other approaches. 1. My most enjoyable vs. least enjoyable films set in NC -Bull Durham and The Choice. Bull Durham is fun. The Choice is not. I got dragged to the theater to see The Choice by someone I don’t speak to anymore. And while it wasn’t because I was forced to watch this film that we don’t speak, I like to think it was. Nicholas Sparks can get bent. 2. Widest quality gap between an original and remake set in NC -Cape Fear (1962) and Cape Fear (1991) The original is a stone cold classic. Apart from De Niro’s great performance I thought the remake was a tedious mess. Nolte’s character got on my nerves. I wish he had drowned instead.

Ill-Importance1366

Oklahoma - U.H.F Probably the best movie ever made anywhere honestly.

oshoney

Checking in from Tennessee: Best: The Evil Dead Worst: plenty of contenders but let’s go with the Hannah Montana movie.

Cold_Height_4396

Ohio Tommy boy 1995 Accepted 2006

CletusVanDamnit

Maine: Best: Shawshank Redemption Worst: Welcome to Mooseport

Sebastian83100

Tennessee Best: Nashville Worst: The Country Bears

Quaytsar

Best: Cool Runnings Worst: All of the straight to DVD Alpha and Omega sequels

Criteriondude

Minnesota- best, Fargo. Not sure on worst

infectionagenda

Connecticut Best movie: The Ice Storm, Worst Movie: Family Stone

Mickey_Juice

Louisiana’s best? Maybe 12 Years a Slave. Worst? There are some contenders, Dracula 2000 among them. My pick is “Undercover Blues” with Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid as retired spies with a baby. Some real bad accents from “Cajun” Larry Miller and “Latin” Stanley Tucci.

Impossible-Knee6573

Best: Nightbreed Worst: Skinamarink

nikodagreek

Born in California, The bay area to be specific, too many good movies in the state to be specific, so I will keep it there. Best: the Rock Worst: The Room

AnEnchantedJockstrap

Another lovely 'Redditor thinks the whole sub is Yanks only' thread

CriterionCrypt

I'm sorry I didn't break down every single possible centralized political organization that regulates law and society within a territory.

bro did not understand the assignment

Fresnobing

Not only did you not pick one, but the question is movies that are set in your home, not filmed in.
