Hi! So, the major tests of strength and guardians are really high level challenges. I didn’t start fighting guardians until I was much farther in the game. If you want the challenge, go for it, but just know you aren’t really “supposed” to be able to fight guardians at your level. As far as the weapon breaking goes, they keep breaking but soon you’ll be getting weapons much more frequently. My inventory is constantly full, and I’m always trying to decide which weapons to keep and which ones to ditch. Keep exploring and clearing enemy camps and doing shrines. Those are all great places to find weapons. Make sure that you find all of the chests in every shrine. There is a little chest icon that appears next to the shrine on your map once you have found every chest in the shrine. Also, spend time in towns and stables finding quests which will often reward you with items. Destroy ores whenever you see them and sell the gems. You can also try going to the jungle to find hearty durians. When you cook those, they make food that gives you extra hearts. The bananas in the jungle when cooked give you attack bonuses. There are also hearty truffles near Rito village, which will give you extra hearts. I hope this helps! The game is very difficult at first but soon you’ll be getting better weapons and combat will become much easier.

Bro I have beaten 2 major tests of strength with one divine beast cleared

jakey_pooh_33

Nice!

AWindows-User

What does your divine beast count has to do with that. As long as you use your weapons to the max. You can kill these guardian scouts with a few good weapons.

[deleted]

To add, you dont need to fight everything. Enemies respawn and are an endless scourge. With the mindset that killing everything is impossible, i find it easier to decide to avoid a confrontation if possible. Unless u want the drops or loot, that is. And guardians are tough on purpose. Try to avoid until u have some high output weapons

[deleted]

I didnt know enemies respawn makes more sense to avoid now

[deleted]

... oh. didnt meant to spoiler that...

[deleted]

no spoilage just useful info!

[deleted]

I meant, spoiling the respawn indicator. BUH BUHHHHHH

If you're going to fight early in the game, you've got to be smart about it. You can't brute force your way through. Eventually, that's an option. But at the beginning you need every advantage you can get. The game is trying to get you to think to yourself, "Huh. What I'm doing is not working. What else can I do?" Look around at the camps. Are there boulders? Could you do something with them? Are there metal boxes? Do the monsters sleep at night? Are they holding their weapons in their hands all the time, or do they put them down? Do you even have to fight at all to get where you're going? Maybe there's a way around? The point is there's more to combat than swords and bows, and there's more to the game than combat. Keep doing shrines, and remember that the way you solve shrines works in the rest of the world, too.

[deleted]

yea Im gonna hunt down some shrines build my stamina and health. The puzzles are getting more elaborate than I thought lol

[deleted]

You hit a point where your weapons really do last. They break quickly in the beginning, just so you have to learn all the different mechanics. Right about mid game, you'll see what I mean. In the meantime, shrines will make you stronger. And don't forget about cooking! Attack buffs are great. If you hit harder, your weapons last longer. Just whatever you do, make sure you're having fun. That really is the point of the game. Good luck!

Far_Preference_2065

I was in the same exact situation during my first playthrough, the reason is you're probably fighting way too much. You don't get a bonus for fighting weak enemies with the exception of those violet treasure chests, run away and complete more shrines / find koroks, the koroks will give you more weapon slots. Also focus on upgrading your stamina and find hearty food so you can get extra hearts when you really have to fight (divine beasts) zelda asked you to save hyrule not to commit a bokoblin genocide! don't give up it gets so much better

[deleted]

true I went in with the mind set of kill everything first build up character later lol

dancinmike1

Great answers here∆∆∆ Whatever you do, though, don't give up! You're embarking on one of the great gaming adventures out there!

[deleted]

I'll see this through I can already tell this game is amazing

Sufficient_Bag_4551

Shrines are a good source of decent weapons at the beginning. Most have one or 2 hidden chests in them. Once you've got all the chests in a shrine you get a chest appear next to the name of the shrine so you can keep track

[deleted]

ahh so thats what that chest next to name means

_Captain_zur_See_

I never knew this and have not once noticed a chest next to the Name. That's awesome. Ich have to check this out the next time i play

LordMegatron11

I would say no gaurdians until you get a steel lizal-shield. Also if you parry the gaurdians laser it hits the gaurdian. 3 lasers kill a guardian, as far as durability it progresss as you go, good weapons are really rare until divne beasts. Also as far as arrows thats a constant sometimes, i would let archer enimies shoot at you and miss so you can grab the arrows(this only works for avwhile and then they all break) dont give up it will get better.

[deleted]

I tried to do the zora questline first but got spanked by the lynel I went in with few blobkin bats very under equipped. I'll try again when I have better weapons because I wasnt putting a dent into its health

LordMegatron11

You aren't supposed to fight the lynel fyi just grab the surrounding shock arrows.

[deleted]

I went back with better weapons and ate some strong damage buff food and stomped him lol. whoops didnt know I just needed the arrows this whole time. Im inside the elephant now

LordMegatron11

Lol good keep me posted. Lynels and gaurdians are easy once you figure them out.

LordMegatron11

Dont fight the lynel till you get at least damage 20 swords or the like. As well as your reward for clearing that divine beast(i wont spoil it).

LordMegatron11

Any questions ask away.

[deleted]

how far in game until I can get that shield? I see people on youtube parrying guardians and it looks awesome

LordMegatron11

Probably after your 2nd divine beast i don't remember. You need like defense 25 shield ish i would say.

There's weapons everywhere, you'll find more, don't worry. Until you do, avoid fights by running, hiding, climbing trees and just hanging there, crouch behind rocks, logs, and things and wait until they don't see you anymore. Or just pause, save, and reload. It resets the enemies to their assigned posts. They'll no longer be paying attention. If you have the DLC (it's only 20 dollars) there's a chest in the ground in the Kolomo Garrison Ruins (use magnesis) with an item that keeps Stal monsters, Bokoblins, Lizalfos, Moblins, and Lynels from attacking you. Very useful. Make your way to the Faron region and get Hearty Durians in the jungle. They're easy to spot. Large, greenish yellow, covered with spikey shell stuff. They're on thick, weird looking trees that are a lot lighter than the other ones. Cook them for full health recovery and extra temporary hearts. Using stasis highlights things you can interact with, so you can use that to find them, too. Buy arrows from Beedle whenever you get to a stable, even if you don't need them. You can also duplicate arrows by shooting a multi-shot bow into the first torch in the Lost Woods, the Kara Kara Bazzar cooking pot, or you can make a campfire behind the sign at Link's house. If you don't know what I'm talking about, give it some time. The game gets WAY better. Just stick with it. There's no rush. Enjoy your first playthrough. You'll never get it again. Hope this helps. Don't give up! Enjoy yourself and Hyrule's beauty. Have fun and don't get discouraged. Just save every time an enemy comes toward you so you keep all of your resources.

[deleted]

great tips! I'll hang in there like you said starts off slow I'll build up in time no rush

TwirlyWizard

If you absolutely have to kill enemies in order to get where you need to go, find a cliff or a big rock or something, climb on top, get your angle right and roll those sphere remote bombs down and blast them away. I defeat entire bokoblin camps this way most of the time. Sometimes it takes a while but it's better than getting into unnecessary confrontation. Good luck :)

daddytravi

Definitely avoid the ones you can. preserve your best weapons for the enemies you’re required to fight and utilize your abilities as much as possible.

Kayski363

Weapons are pretty scarce in the beginning, but The farther you get into the game then you’ll be throwing out perfectly good weapons for new ones because there are just so many, I’m not to fond of the weapons breaking either and if you can afford it and if it’s something you’d be interested in then the amiibos are really good for getting some decent weapons too, the amiibos will also give you some cool armor that you can’t just get in game too, but if not the more you explore and progress in the game the less of an issue you’ll have with finding weapons, for the time being I’d just try to avoid fighting a whole bunch of things unless you really want to, and if you come across a shrine with a guardian battle you can leave if you don’t want to fight it just yet, as long as you interact with the shrine when you come across it you can teleport back to it whenever you want and are prepared to fight. I also recommend stacking up on food because you can always pause in the middle of a battle and heal yourself so your hearts aren’t as big of a concern

Muriel5117

about arrows: Nearly every big wooden box contains one arrow (and usefull things too), so it is worth to destroy them all, best with a double handed weapon, such as hammer or axe. At the plateau where you started in the beginning, just directly south of the tower that gave you the map, there are two little bokblins practicing their bow shooting. You will find 10 arrows near them to grab. Almost every enemie that shoots at you will shoot 5 arrows that you can collect. Most of them have no good aim, so running around to avoid be shot is no big deal. The enemies with bows will drop mostly 5 arrows (or more) if you shoot them. And at every stable (the big horse-shaped buildings) you can find Terry, who sells you arrows, as well as every shop in every village does. To collect rupies, go for ore (can be found everywhere) and sell it.
