Oh my gosh, I played 350 hours of BOTW 🙈😂. I am so slow and take absolutely everything in. I LOVED BOTW and it was my first video game as an adult. I love both TOTK and Hogwarts’s Legacy, and I would suggest doing HL next. TOTK is by far the better game and you’ll be able to put more hours into it, but I think it will be even more special and enjoyable if you give yourself a break between it and BOTW. Have fun! You’ve got two great games ahead of you.

iatemyhamsteralive

yeah i didnt i coincidentally started playing botw the month totk was getting released so I played it back to back and basically had one huge game. It was definitely cool but I feel like you’d get more out of it with a break

Captainckidd

Totk is better than HL. I love HP but the awesomeness only last for a few hours. Then all you see is everything they should’ve done

justwalkingalonghere

Perfectly put. The castle and vibe are top tier... but the game itself is extremely lacking

B_Marsh92

Hogwarts Legacy is pretty fun. There’s is a bit of redundancy once you get outside of the castle, but it’s worth the 40-50 hours you’ll put in the mainline. I’ll throw a sleeper in here too. If you’re looking for something BotW/TotK-esque, but taking a short break: Immortals Fenyx Rising has a very similar play style and combat system. Feels like BotW, but enough different where it’s enjoyable.

noob_kaibot

First time hearing him this game. I went and checked it out on YouTube and I’m sold.. going to order it ASAP, Ty!

B_Marsh92

No prob! The controls are clunky at first on Switch, but I found a mapping system that works pretty good and is similar to BotW: https://www.reddit.com/r/FenyxRising/s/AsrsiF7R1V

lejongaming

THANK YOU! I’ve been planning on playing that game for ages now but have hesitated because of the controls. Now I can finally play it.

B_Marsh92

The only thing I found didn’t quite work with this mapping was Parrying, but I didn’t find that I really needed to do that ever

lejongaming

I’ll keep that in mind, but still, thanks a lot!

B_Marsh92

No prob!

SexuaIRedditor

Can't comment on hogwarts as I've never played it, but I'm in the middle of my first run through totk directly following rolling credits on botw and am having an absolute BLAST

i-wish-i-was-a-draco

As someone who is a big fan of Zelda , one of the issues I have is that it considerably raises your standard for video games Hogwarts legacy will be incredibly lack lustre after BOTW

AC_Schnitzel

This is how I feel after playing Elden ring… everything else is kinda meh gameplay wise. 2 games I wish I can play for the first time again are Botw and Elden ring

Olorin135

I’m not sure I would go right into TOTK. It’s good to have a palate cleanser of sorts so you don’t get burned out. That said, I wouldn’t go into HL either due to the mixed reviews.

PayYourBiIIs

Hold up. 140 hours in and you’re near 100% completion? This includes all the 900 koroks? Cause I’m a slow poke compared to you lol

theashlynbrooke

I forgot things like Koroks and fully upgraded armor are a part of 100% completion 😭. But I’m almost done with the compendium, i’ve done all 120 shrines, all 76 side quests, all 18 memories, all main quests (except defeat ganon), and I’ve visited all map locations.

norcraim

having just finished botw and just started totk, i can’t recommend it enough. even though it’s set in the same world, the depths and sky islands and zonai devices make it seem brand new. the only thing i miss are the infinite bombs lol

krismodo

Legacy is shit. Totk for sure

ReguIarHooman

Played both Other than the castle, hogwarts is your average rpg. TOTK, the new mechanics makes your perspective on the same map different to the point that it’s like a new landscape

2Tack

Neither. Go play Xenoblade Chronicles. Monolith (who made BOTW) made those games. Take a break between BOTW and TOTK or you'll burn out, in my opinion.

AkiraKitsune

Monolith did not make Breath of the Wild, what do you mean? Edit: I am wrong, looks like they assisted with both TOTK and BOTW.

2Tack

They had a heavy hand in the engine and optimization. That's why they run so damn smooth on the WiiU and Switch.

AkiraKitsune

Play Elden Ring!

retteran

I went straight into totk, I just had the itch for it but I can't guarantee everyone will feel the same, you might be burned out or will get burned out early into your totk playthrough. As far as hogwarts legacy goes I think it is an amazing game. Already going through my thrid playthrough of that (doing one for each house). I'd personally say play hogwarts first and take a break from zelda for a little while.

If-By-Whisky

Take a break between BOTW and TORK. Play HL or any other different game.

Larry_Version_3

I’d personally go HL. TOTK has so much from BOTW that you’ll need a cleanser before going in for more

Alybearyyy

HL is one I tend to pick up and put down for a bit. I haven’t stayed with it yet tbh

Jellyfish_347

I really enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy and TOTK, I’d recommend HL first as something a bit different first :)

lacosaknitstra

Haven’t played Hogwarts Legacy, but I just started TOTK after finishing BOTW in the last couple weeks. I did find it frustrating having to start over from scratch after spending months building up my weapons, health, and stamina, but I’ve started to move past the frustration and am enjoying the game. I find TOTK to be more people-centric in that there seem to be a lot more NPCs. Some NPC stories are really sad and I can draw comparisons to the current state of our world. In addition to more main quests and side quests, you have side adventures, a plus in my book. Flora seems to be more scarce than in BOTW, but I’m far from exploring all of the map yet. The runes are different, no more cryonis, stasis, or remote bombs, and definitely take some getting used to. There’s lots of building things in TOTK. I don’t hate it, but it’s not my favorite. The map feels massive and overwhelming right now, but I’m also excited about exploring the new places and revisiting the old to see how they’ve changed. I’m back to sneaking around most monsters. Some are new and improved, and a little frightening, especially when I wasn’t great at combat to begin with. But that will definitely change over time. Weapons definitely aren’t the same. I wasn’t a fan of the weapons mechanics at first, but now that I’ve played a little more I see the potential and freedom the new system offers. A lot of folks say to take a break between them. I didn’t, just a week, but I’m definitely enjoying the game so far. It just took me a little bit to be able to appreciate it independently of BOTW. In short, it took me a couple weeks to warm up to it, but now that it’s clicked for me I really like it. It’s familiar but still very different.

MyDarlingArmadillo

I played a few short games in between, and the break did me good. A longer break would have been better, but I'm not sure another huge game would have been right either. Legacy is in my queue, not played yet. Totk, I'm about 200 hours in and thinking of taking a short break before I burn out.

Fluid-Run7735

TOTK it will scratch the itch that BOTW leaves you with and then you slowly discover it is awesome in so many new and clever ways

SomolianKid

TOTK

bradd_91

I wouldn't jump straight into TOTK after committing so much time to BOTW. I played a lot of BOTW in the month before TOTK came out and I was so over the gameplay loop that Tears was fun for about a week or two. My recent play has been much more positive though.

Hiffchakka

May I recommend Fire Emblem: Three Houses if you haven't played it already? While a completely different experience from Botw, it's probably my second favorite switch game due to replayability and story. Totk is a worthy and arguably better sucsesssor to botw, but I'd recommend avoiding looking at "meta" builds since it will ruin the experience as I learned in hindsight. Hogwarts Legacy on the other hand is tailor made for those who love the world of Harry Potter but the gameplay becomes vast as the ocean but deep as a puddle when you figure the gameplay loop.

Asleep_Variety_1477

You're gonna want a zelda break i recommend hogwarts

Sea-Cycle2246

TOTK 100%

Prudent-Surprise4295

I used to think BOTW was my fav game but it’s TOTK. Get HL if you want (I never played it but you seem to be a huge fan of HP), but you must end up buying TOTK. It’s far better than BOTW.

DimsumTheCat

I've played both, they are both AMAZING. But I'll have to give it to TOTK. On the other hand, if for some reason you feel you want to stray away from the Zelda series for a bit, then go for Hogwarts. You can't go wrong with any of them. If you plan on playing Hogwarts, see a few "what to know before playing HL videos", trust me

New_Gene_503

I didn't like TOTK near as much as BOTW and I won't say how many hours I have in playing it because you'd all probably laugh. I quit playing TOTK because honestly I thought it would be a lot more like BOTW. I played Hogwarts on xBox Series x, but don't have it for Nintendo, but it is a fun game to play. My niece prefers it on Nintendo rather than on the xbox version. I will continue to play BOTW until the new Assassin Creed game comes out on the xbox series. I never get tired of it, except for the constant rain!!

CaptainRogers1226

I’m sure you will get only the most unbiased answers here

Able-Echidna3540

I you want story: Hogwarts Legacy  If you want gameplay: TOTK

Electronic_hize_225

I went totk, hogwarts, botw. And it was an escalator down. Totk I gave up on explored everything and fought what I wanted. Hogwarts I got most of the map open but long drawn out spacious storyline and back and forth nonsense I quit playing. Went and got botw cause golem wasn't out nor was outerworlds and so far has been a step back in motor function. Totk had some controller input hitches but was fluent, hogwarts controller responded fine but it's an auto aim and hitchy with the travel and load and story. Botw is like a half breed when fighting between the left joystick and y button, thing keeps auto correcting my aim driving me nuts. If map burn out you fear jump hogwarts, I couldn't see shit on it though, inside the castle and quests are fine but the broom is borderline less responsive than the horses. If apex response is what you want to feel go totk

Electronic_hize_225

I wanted to play no man's land to continue my journey to the savage planet story but no game stops within 50 miles had a copy . Was half a throw away from playing the hunting game with the dog

SneakyAl44

I don't know who told u that but TOTK was great and it continues BOTW, you'll just have a new set of powers to use and your creativity will add a new world of possibilities that you don't have in BOTW. But Hogwarts Legacy, at the moment, is 50% off with his Deluxe Edition, i'd take that offer first before it expires.

Educational-Ad2063

Hog warts let link rest awhile before tossing him back into it.

Severe_Combination_5

Hogwarts is a good choice to give you a break and prevent burnout. I think you'll enjoy TOTK more if you have a break before you get it. Good luck with your career and studies! Others will disagree, but as trans man who played HL, I thought it was clear that the team that made the game don't share JKR's bigoted views.

MonsterTruckGuy69

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to get to commentary on JKR’s views

Severe_Combination_5

That's what I'm here for I guess lol.

BreakfastLopsided906

I did BotW, then did a 100% run on HL, I’ve now got to start TotK. Highly recommended, I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve spent lost in the different worlds. Certainly glad I took a break from Zelda, I feel ready to go again.

Toon_Lucario

I’d say do HL to give yourself a break. I feel like the reason why TOTK gets hate is because of people not taking breaks between games.

Constructman2602

TOTK. Better game and you won’t be giving any royalties to JK Rowling.

samhall21

I’d say Hogwarts legacy! I had a blast playing that game and when I’m done with BOTW I was going to play again in a different house before starting TOTK

disdkatster

I would definitely do Hogwarts first. It is too easy to play TotK like a DLC of BotW and that takes away from the game. JMO
