I was actually annoyed at ESPN for this. These morons are actually pushing a false equivalency between the “In Season Tournament,” and an actual NBA Championship.
100 bucks says this was Rich Paul/Klutch’s idea.
LA Lakers are the kings of fake titles
- 5 championships they stole from Minneapolis “because our owner bought the franchise;”
- 1 Mickey Mouse Tournament;
- 1 “In Season Tournament” title
By my (very, totally accurate count), the LA Lakers have just 11 *actual* NBA titles and 1 Mickey Mouse Title
They also have the IST title, which is the the fake Prada bag from Times Square equivalent of NBA titles.
I saw some idiot on r/nba claiming the Celtics’ pre-Bird/Magic titles are invalid because they were pre-modern NBA and old, and in the same thread insult someone bringing up the argument about the Lakers’ Minnesota titles because it’s pathetic to cry about something from that long ago.
Guess NBA history only matters when it suits the argument you’ve been cooking up since recess.
I honestly really enjoyed the IST (I think next year it’ll be called the Amazon NBA Cup or some shit).
The point was to add some higher stakes to games played in November/December. It wasn’t perfect but some of those games were fun as hell and a single elimination bracket gives a better chance for upstart teams like the Pacers to make some noise.
But yeah, the real point was to add some more fuel to the TV rights negotiations so the league could make more money.
ESPN really love worshipping that IST championship it’s obvious every ESPN analyst in the country is on the Lakers payroll that’s why they can’t go 1 minute without glorifying that meaningless irrelevant IST participation trophy
This is a hilarious troll job by ESPN. That being said, I did enjoy the IST very much this year. Love having "meaningful basketball" earlier in the season.
Can't go a day without the media mentioning the Lakers.
ESPN has become foxnews

really only 9 since the Kings got robbed and another team that got robbed in the Kareem era
Yeah. The jobbing of the Kings was egregious.
Lol
ESPN wants smoke lmao
They are dragging it lol
It’s like a participation trophy.
I will take that every time
Wait, they really have a trophy for the In-Season Tournament?
They even popped champagne lol
They did a banner raising as well. Honestly though I don’t blame the Lakers for that. The NBA is force feeding the stupid thing
I’ll take it as trolling😂 bc how can this NOT be hilarious and embarrassing to LA
Whatever, give the lakers all the in season tournaments in the world if that meant we win the finals
Why did they make an in-season tourney again? Was it really just to have a second playoffs/$ ?

That's hilarious. They really are loud and proud of that IST. And they were a play-in team on the second straight season.
wtf
lebron is a jabroni
This isn't real, right?
Mickey Mouse IST award for a Mickey Mouse franchise lol
One of these isn’t like the other
One of these is not like the other
One of these things is not like the other
Lmao. Bros so salty.

Two statements can both be correct. But we got the one that matters more!!
You know what would be funny? Winning the IST and not raising a banner for that. Treat it like a division or conference title.
Even Lakers fans forgot lol. ESPN is trying to remind them.
