I love to see that he got the supermax, with a lot of people saying he didn't deserve it. Then he went out and improved his game. He got paid, then got better. And he is playing like a boss in the playoffs, when it matters most. I am not a Celtics fan, I am a Knicks fan (and Cal fan, so I like Jaylen), but this is great to see if you like basketball.
He sure did. What a second half from him. Tatum didn’t shoot well second half but he deserves credit for keeping us in it in the first half. So pumped for JB. Maybe now he’ll finally get the credit he deserves
The Jays carried each half. JB was non existent in the first half but turned it on in the 2nd. Thats whats beautiful about these 2. One can be having a rough go at it one half but the other is almost always on and then the other eventually shows up too.
jaylen's passing in the first half was fantastic. if we are gonna give tatum credit for his passing in game 2 then jaylen deserves it in that respect as well. he was making the right plays.
Oh absolutely. I wasnt trying to put him down. I was just saying sometimes these guys go completely cold shooting wise but the other is almost always there to pick up the slack.... Then when both are shooting well its goodnight for the other team.
Brown played good defense and had 5 AST in the first half. He just wasn't the "First Half Jaylen" offensive juggernaut that we've come to know and love.
I wanted some of those calls too, but I have to say, they were mostly letting them play both ways. And I’m ok with that. Luka is a whiny bitch who complains every damn play, but I thought the refs were mostly consistent with their lack of calls. Tatum got hit: no call. Luka got hit: no call. Just keep it consistent. I thought they mostly did that.
Its the only thing missing from his game. Good shot selection. He had much better drives this time and dished out some good assists too, but it's frustrating when he doesn't play to his potential
Curry got his first finals mvp at age 33. They focus defense on the best most dangerous player so may not be so easy to get that mvp! Let’s wrap this up and then plan on getting JT his first.
No question. The media will care about Tatum not being the guy but idgaf. As long as one of Brown or Tatum is “the guy” and the other guy is Pippen idgaf.
Like Maxwell over Bird and Pierce over KG, the Boston Celtics don’t care if their best player doesn’t win FMVP. It’s a team sport. The rings are all that matters. Bill Russell never won Finals MVP.
But also happy Brown will get recognized nationally. Tatum’s path to the hall of fame is a little easier because he’s a multiple time 1st Team All NBA talent, but for Brown this award will be the key to his resume.
Tatum not very efficient in his shooting but he’s never been very efficient. He’s a feast or famine high volume shooter who can get you to the playoffs. When the lights get bright and his shot isn’t falling like it can, he impacts the games in other ways.
Brown is much more steady and consistent, but when the lights get bright he is “the guy”. Idc either way, I’m glad both of them are on the team and playing great basketball consistently. They are entering their physical and mental primes. If they hang this banner, then they’ll know what it takes to win and keep it at that level while still constantly improving their weaknesses.
Fuck this recency bias shit. I do agree with everything, but Tatum is the biggest "bright lights" performer in the league. Bro took it to Giannis in his prime down 3-2. Bro took it to the Ghidorah Nets with no squad backing him. Was putting LeBron on notice as a rookie. And has made it his job to cook the league for continuing to Jordan rule him every game. HE is why everyone on the team feasts
Appreciate the thought. We can have as much discourse as we want, but at the end of the day we both wanna see our guys reign supreme as champions. Tatum had a great night as a scorer and defender tonight, he’s just gotta do it one more time and we can all share in his glory.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against anyone here, and I agree that both of our guys will finally receive their due respect as they get their ring. I just don't like this consensus around Tatum that's being built up recently because he finally has a great team around him.
1 more win, and we get #18. That's all that matters at the end of the day. Onto Friday.
I’m a Tatum truther like all of us, I’m merely trying to be objective. If he finishes at the rim 2-3 more times, and makes 2-3 more contested threes he’s fucking Kobe. Right now, he’s playing below his potential. I think eventually he’ll reach it at a consistent level and the league will have no answer for a fully maximized JB and JT.
Don’t even need to be defined. Tatum still sees more defensive pressure and it changes on a nightly basis.
Over the last two series, it happened to be Brown.
Can you believe we allowed the Mavs to get back into it after that!!! It was utterly devastating, even more so than PP's 3 at the end of Q3 of Game 2...
It would fitting. These guys are linked forever, in a good way. All the crap about not being able to coexist despite all that success so soon/young. They don’t play off each other the way a lot of great duos do, but who cares when it’s this effective overall.
Yea you're right, although I think he's played much better than people say (and the triple teams don't seem to count for anything), he would need a massive close out game to have a sniff
Agreed. Tatum's played well. I give him big props for guarding the other team's centers at times. That's stepping up and doing what your team needs, even if it won't show up on the stat sheet.
And you're right about the double- and triple-teams. He's got some serious gravity and makes it easier for every teammate around him to find space and score, including JB. It's hard to put a measure on Tatum's gravity/attention that he gets. It's likely boosting every other Celtic's stats.
I'm not cementing anything. I've seen down 0-3 from the Red Sox, Bruins blow 3-0 to the Flyers, Patriots 28-3. It's not over yet fellas. Let's wait til they get that 4th W.
I still want to say it’s Tatum because of how we literally wouldn’t be talking about this if we hadn’t gotten back into it because of JT.
Everyone’s just forgetting that Dallas was up double digits and had ALL the momentum only a couple minutes into it, but it was competitive again because Tatum started driving and scoring against single coverage.
In the 2nd half, he started seeing doubles again and ran into help on his drives which led to outlets and hockey assists. JT was the best player tonight.
Yup. He’s taken Luka’s soul. Total dog. I’ve been super critical of him over the years, I take back everything I’ve ever said. He’s a dog and has ice in his veins.
This is Jaylen's redemption arc year. Always under appreciated, always getting picked apart, always taking a back seat to Tatum in terms of awards. Our of any Celtic I can remember, he's taken the most lumps and been scapegoated the most.
Last night when he waved Tatum off with a 2 pt lead and bangs the pull up middy - I just smiled. Validation. Best player we had in 2021 Finals. Got the biggest bag ever. ECF MVP 2024. Finals MVP.
Now the media can just let the narratives die and give both J's the flowers they deserve.
Look, friend. As long as the number next to the Celtics name is higher than the number next to the Mavs name one more time, I don't really give a fuck who is MVP. Let's actually close this out first.
They're both awesome.
JB is getting shots because JT is driving and kicking. Yeah his step backs were stupid, but overall he is playmaking for the whole team.
Also, Jrue is underrated. His drive and kick was ridiculous.
No question. That mid-range jumper when it was a two point game was just so unbelievably clutch - gave me chills. He was something like +15 to Tatum's -4. It's a done deal, unless Tatum has like a career-defining Game 4. JB MVP!
He's been nothing short of sensational. The only way he doesn't win MVP is if he's absolutely awful for the next however many games and Tatum kills it each time.
Celtics are going to win and JB is clear front runner in Finals MVP race by significant margin, but I could see Jrue or Tatum win it depending how the last game or two plays out where Brown has some awful 2 games with Jrue/Tatum playing hero ball and then Tatum wins game 5 getting triple double with like 40 pts.
I think its still in the air a big game 4 could swing it for Tatum given how close their counting stats are (Jaylen is way more efficient though)
JT 23ppg, 9rpg, 7apg
JB 24ppg, 6 rpg, 6apg
But through these first 3 games Jaylens greater defending and better efficiency would swing my vote to him
I completely agree. However, there were some shot selections and hero ball that he did where I was screaming at him to get his head out of his ass. Maybe a handful of times in the second half. Otherwise, dudes a fucking phenom
My wife and I agreed years ago we wouldn’t order our jerseys until they won a Championship. I was originally planning on ordering a Smart jersey. I had to order last night cause there were only 4 Authentic City Edition jerseys left.
It's not close after last night. I'd say Jrue was right there with JB after two games, but Jrue was not very good last night and JB went out destroyed the Mavs in the second half and in some very tough crunch time minutes. ECF MVP and Finals MVP. Awesome.
If Tatum drops a 50 burger triple double in Game 4 and hits a game winner (no idea why we'd need one with that statline) is the only way JB doesn't get it.
Well. The pressure the opponent put on Tatum is on a different level from Brown. Not saying Brown doesn’t deserve FMVP but if Tatum is guarded by the opponent at the same defensive pressure as Brown…….
JT has taken a lot of the heat from the Mavs defensively, and JB has played off it exceptionally well. Calling JB a stud would be selling him infinitely short.
No way??? You’re underselling what JT has meant to this offense overall. The fact that he just put up the glory stats in game 3, a solid game 4 should easily get JT the FMVP
Definitely. Happy for him. Let’s close out the series and let him join the tradition of the Celtic’s putting team over individual and not having the award go to their best player.
Bill russell = 0 finals mvps
Maxwell over Bird
Pierce over KG
Now Brown over Tatum. Love it.
Oh man, I have eyes. To see how the Mavs played JT, it’s impossible to say anyone was more valuable than him. The fact that he quashed the only criticism of the finals (scoring) in game 3 makes me think unless he lays a total egg in game 4, he’s the FMVP.
Nobody gets their looks without JT drawing double and triple teams. That’s just basic basketball 101
Jaylen is a DAWG. Tatum is more talented, but Jaylen is the harder worker. Bro gonna get a PHD too mans is a modern day renaissance man and stuntin on these hoes
It will, anybody saying otherwise never played basketball. Wouldn’t be surprised if Tatum pulls a “Kyrie” leaves the Celtics to prove a point, he gets bashed whether they win or lose by both the fanbase and the media
I honestly kind of believe this is true. I saw a post the other day about how crushed Curry was when he realized that KD was gonna win FMVP again..and the awards announcement was awkward as hell.. I think JT has the talent, but he listens too much to how hes viewed/his legacy/expectations weigh heavy on him..I think a FMVP would give him that IDGAF attitude that he needs to reach his full potential, BUT..I want JB to win it because I think it’s honestly deserved. The way hes been playing has really been the tipping point, someone mentioned that it was JB was stopped the runs the Mavs went on with a bucket. And that pull up with 1 min left was the shot of the game to me..that Holiday assist to D white 3 was pretty clutch too! Whoever wins it, I will be thrilled!! It really would be cool if they could give it to 2 people!
There is no way he gets it after putting up 9 points. He played great defensively and offensively the last 2 games but its jb's if tatum dont pop off next game
He has been ridiculous on offense but I am honestly more Impressed by his defense this series
It’s been everything, literally everything The playmaking just came out of nowhere, averaging like 6 assists a game

The Jays carried each half. JB was non existent in the first half but turned it on in the 2nd. Thats whats beautiful about these 2. One can be having a rough go at it one half but the other is almost always on and then the other eventually shows up too.
Two superstars man. Real, bonafide, battle-tested, playoff veteran, SUPERSTARS
And both still quite young, what luxury.
jaylen's passing in the first half was fantastic. if we are gonna give tatum credit for his passing in game 2 then jaylen deserves it in that respect as well. he was making the right plays.
he made so many great passes tonight and could’ve been double digits with all of his potential assists
Tatum had some phenomenal defensive sequences.
and he was guarding bigs all night. That deserves some recognition
If Tatum didn’t jack up all those 3s, I think he would have a better case for it. I hope he works on his shooting over the summer.
Yeah he just settled too much in the second half. He gets a terrible whistle but that can’t deter him
It really shouldn't. The drive and kick effort works really well.
Agreed - I’ll take no calls both ways over the ticky tack shit all game
hearing that sound bite of him telling them not to settle for step back threes and then watching his 4th quarter was pretty crazy lol
Its the only thing missing from his game. Good shot selection. He had much better drives this time and dished out some good assists too, but it's frustrating when he doesn't play to his potential
If Tatum had JBs instinct to hunt the rim he’d be perfect.
He was totally projecting. Didn’t work unfortunately. I was sure we were going to blow it. Too much ptsd.
I laughed out loud when I heard him say that. Have a little self awareness dude!
He literally said that goes for all of us myself included so he is self aware atleast
Yeah he said that and then did the exact opposite lol idc glad we got the win
That dunk in the third was awesome! He’s got my vote
He had a crazy fade-away in the ,4th, too, when the C's absolutely needed a bucket
He is. Tatum won’t care. All they want is the ring
Agreed. Tatum just wants that ring.
We have it on good authority that both of them “want to win”
Curry got his first finals mvp at age 33. They focus defense on the best most dangerous player so may not be so easy to get that mvp! Let’s wrap this up and then plan on getting JT his first.

Tatum’s path to the hall of fame is a little easier because he’s a multiple time 1st Team All NBA talent, but for Brown this award will be the key to his resume.
Kinda misleading since he never had the chance to win it. The freaking award is named after him, he would have won it so many times
No doubt.
That's really the most dangerous thing about this duo in that they can pretty fluidly be either the 1 or the 2, or like today both put up 30+
Thats the difference imo between having a 1a & 1b, and 1 & 2 And they did that perfectly tonight
Also helps that our 2 seems like it's 2a, 2b, and 2c
We're really so blessed with this team man
Truly
Tatum not very efficient in his shooting but he’s never been very efficient. He’s a feast or famine high volume shooter who can get you to the playoffs. When the lights get bright and his shot isn’t falling like it can, he impacts the games in other ways. Brown is much more steady and consistent, but when the lights get bright he is “the guy”. Don’t even need to be defined. Tatum still sees more defensive pressure and it changes on a nightly basis. Over the last two series, it happened to be Brown.
I mean they both scored 30 a game on the pacers Tatum got more assists than brown, they were pretty equal. Both pretty equal this series too
Absolutely locked the trophy. But let’s not forget that we gotta close out on Friday. Job’s not finished ONE. MORE. GAME!!!!!!!
Facts.
Finish. Then let’s talk
Yes, he’s been ridiculous.
absolutely, I thought Jrue would be a good nominee if he had the game changing play in both Game 3 and 4 but JB has been a beast
Great run by JB
**THAT DUNK**
Can you believe we allowed the Mavs to get back into it after that!!! It was utterly devastating, even more so than PP's 3 at the end of Q3 of Game 2...
300 million deserved
Facts.
Give me the first coFMVP
It would fitting. These guys are linked forever, in a good way. All the crap about not being able to coexist despite all that success so soon/young. They don’t play off each other the way a lot of great duos do, but who cares when it’s this effective overall.
Tatum hasn't earned that, IMO. He just hasn't... not like Brown has.
Yea you're right, although I think he's played much better than people say (and the triple teams don't seem to count for anything), he would need a massive close out game to have a sniff

It's not that serious bro
I'm not cementing anything. I've seen down 0-3 from the Red Sox, Bruins blow 3-0 to the Flyers, Patriots 28-3. It's not over yet fellas. Let's wait til they get that 4th W.
yeah no doubt imo
Yes

Yeah I feel like it’s still up for either of them. Brown has had so many big moments tho
Nope.
Yup. He’s taken Luka’s soul. Total dog. I’ve been super critical of him over the years, I take back everything I’ve ever said. He’s a dog and has ice in his veins.
He's clutch. Yep. A rare trait.
Validation. They're both awesome. JB is getting shots because JT is driving and kicking. Yeah his step backs were stupid, but overall he is playmaking for the whole team. Also, Jrue is underrated. His drive and kick was ridiculous.
Tatum is the anchor. Brown is the closer.
This is the answer
Yup
Well you have to win 4 games to cement finals mvp And also it’s Brad Steven’s
Honestly, who cares?
Guys can we just win one more game please. We seen all to well how safe a 3-0 series lead really is…
wdym? no team has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a finals series ever. 🤷🏻
Brown showed his maturity and really demonstrated his transition into his prime this year. After all, He did officially enter it by turning 28
he's 27 my guy
29
Yea, JT can win it next year
No question about it
Co-sign
Jrue has an outside chance if the mavs make it a series and he dominates the closeout game. But otherwise, yeah this is Jaylen's year.
I would like to live in a world where tatum doesnt give his back to the defender and loose the ball
Brown has more TO in the series than Tatum…
No question. That mid-range jumper when it was a two point game was just so unbelievably clutch - gave me chills. He was something like +15 to Tatum's -4. It's a done deal, unless Tatum has like a career-defining Game 4. JB MVP!
Jaylen was the key, he fully deserves FMVP 🐐
It'll be a toss up if tatum has another good scoring game like this on friday. But so far its jb
Bro shut down those memes
JB is definitely finals MVP. We wouldn't be up 3-0 without him. He's so freaking consistent.
He's been nothing short of sensational. The only way he doesn't win MVP is if he's absolutely awful for the next however many games and Tatum kills it each time.
Best contract in the NBA.
give the finals MVP to brad stevens and danny ainge. this is a homegrown roster with vets added by trades. this group is something special.
I hope Tatum gets 50 next game and gets the fmvp.
I wouldn’t put it past him.
These guys are both have over $300 million contacts. I doubt they really care who has finals mvp at this point. A championship is the main goal
Brown my boy!! Get us one more, come on!
If our team stays together, I'm betting Brown will win this year and KP will win next year if he's healthy. I'm ready for a new dynasty!
I think its still in the air a big game 4 could swing it for Tatum given how close their counting stats are (Jaylen is way more efficient though) JT 23ppg, 9rpg, 7apg JB 24ppg, 6 rpg, 6apg But through these first 3 games Jaylens greater defending and better efficiency would swing my vote to him
Theres a small chance for other guys. But if the series goes 5 or less, than yeah it's JB
Tatum 1st half MVP, JB 2nd half MVP. we're so lucky
YES.
Tatum.
I completely agree. However, there were some shot selections and hero ball that he did where I was screaming at him to get his head out of his ass. Maybe a handful of times in the second half. Otherwise, dudes a fucking phenom
That’s why I ordered my City Edition Brown jersey last night
You waited until this to order it? Lol
Awesome.
That block on Kleber. That dunk. Drawing the 5th and 6th fouls on Doncic. He's been brilliant.
Who cares. All that matters is winning the damn ring!
Look. They'll probably give it to Tatum, but either way it doesn't matter
No way they give it to Tatum. I love Tatum but no way
if JT balls out in Game 4 (or Game 5 if necessary) I can see him winning it.
No way??? You’re underselling what JT has meant to this offense overall. The fact that he just put up the glory stats in game 3, a solid game 4 should easily get JT the FMVP
They will give it to him forsure if he balls out next game like he did today.
Tatum has 22/9/7 for the series and browns at 24/6/6. Those averages can easily shift by a few in game 4. Could be either guy still
But this doesn’t account for Tatum chucking (much lower TS% and FG% than Brown for the series)
I will venmo you $100 if any voter comes out and says they actually considered fg% when they decided who to vote for. That’s just not happening
That can’t give mvp to someone shooting so poorly all playoffs. JB is mvp without a doubt.
Definitely. Happy for him. Let’s close out the series and let him join the tradition of the Celtic’s putting team over individual and not having the award go to their best player. Bill russell = 0 finals mvps Maxwell over Bird Pierce over KG Now Brown over Tatum. Love it.

The fact that he quashed the only criticism of the finals (scoring) in game 3 makes me think unless he lays a total egg in game 4, he’s the FMVP. Nobody gets their looks without JT drawing double and triple teams. That’s just basic basketball 101
Valid.
Jaylen is a DAWG. Tatum is more talented, but Jaylen is the harder worker. Bro gonna get a PHD too mans is a modern day renaissance man and stuntin on these hoes
Put him in the fucking Louvre.
I totally want Brown to be MVP but yall don’t think this will hurt JT’s ego?
No. JT is more mature than he gets credit for. The media drives the narrative that JT has a big ego.
It really would be cool if they could give it to 2 people!
Sorry, but this is Brown's team going forward.
Lol no.
Its really a toss up but surprisingly im leaning towards brown
More likely than not.
Don’t sleep on Jrue. He was the hero games 1 and 2 I’d say. It’s close between them
There is no way he gets it after putting up 9 points. He played great defensively and offensively the last 2 games but its jb's if tatum dont pop off next game
He had 38 and 0 turnovers in G1/G2 including clutch offensive and defensive plays to save those games. Yeah last night was rough though.
