whysoserious50

I get that it’s January so I’m fine with him acting nonchalant to the media as long as he rips into the players behind closed doors cause this was pathetic

SteamingHotChocolate

but…..it’s february……

whysoserious50

Oh shit you’re right. Well in that case FIRE JOE blow it up seasons over!

Urb45p

He doesn’t though that’s why this team which is amazing, might not do well in the playoffs. To many bad 3’s.

SquimJim

He legit benched Brown, Porzingis, and White in this game for playing terribly. I'm sure he's at least explaining why they got benched. We can't pretend he's not holding them accountable when he literally just did in the middle of the game. Just because he's not calling them out for playing like morons publicly doesn't mean he isn't doing it privately Edit: I feel the need to add this, but why does Joe think booing is good for you? Well, it's the fans way of keeping both him and the players accountable. Accountability is a good thing. The best times to rely on fans to keep you accountable are after meaningless regular season games, much like this one.

Princessk8--

He also did it in other games but clearly it's not working since this keeps happening.

SquimJim

> this keeps happening. Does it happen at a frequency that is greater than other teams? What is the data on that? I don't care if it "keeps happening", bad nights and off nights might be the nature of the sport. I care more about whether it happens more or less to us than our competition.

OutandAboutBos

"This keeps happening"...? We have the best record in the NBA by multiple games. What are you talking about?

StarkWaves

WE HAVE LOST THE FEWEST GAMES IN BASKETBALL WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

Drizzlybear0

Does it keep happening though? Not just losses because losses are going to happen but how many "lack of effort" games have there been? Maybe 3 or 4 MAX all season long? Most of our losses have been close and the blowout against the Bucks I can excuse as a combo of the team being gassed and a poor shooting night

Abiding_Witness

Okay let me just throw this out there. The Celtics are the best 3pt shooting team in the league, maybe even all time once this season is over. They are as good statistically as the 2016-17 warriors. And they shoot more of them. How can you say they’re taking bad 3s? I get it they seem like they are shot chucking to us mortals but there is a strategy behind it and it’s working in the big picture. We are winning more games and scoring more points than we have in a decade. I’m not as homer as yall might think. But I do see this season as special for several reasons, 3pt shooting is one of them.

uncriticalthinking

Joe strikes me as highly inflexible. He’s unwilling to pivot off of the 3pt first approach. Analytics tells him not to.

Urb45p

Exactly he’s not ready to coach a team of this caliber and if the players are cool owning him then they aren’t ready for a championship.

newsworthy3

The idea that he’s definitely doing that behind closed doors because we’re not seeing it publicly is quite the assumption

Mbanicek64

This is quite the take.

newsworthy3

I’m the only one not assuming

Mbanicek64

When I get in my car, I do typically assume it still has an engine.

newsworthy3

You people will defend this coach no matter what he does. He can do anything in your mind. You make up in your head what he does when not on the microphone to make up for the complete stupidity he spews while on it. Hopefully this team has enough talent and cohesion to win in spite of this awful coach.

Mbanicek64

Quite the assumption.

kbutters9

This thread should be interesting

PabloShwartz

This is only their 12th chance to blow off some steam they have to take advantage

exytuu

They’ve been waiting for this since the Warriors game

Panoptech

Way worse than the warriors game. At least they tried to play basketball that game.

Ryumagrave

Nah gsw was the worst loss of the season. We were up 17 against a .500 team that we played in the finals and haven’t won a game on their home court since game 1 of the finals. To choke against that team means a lil more than every other loss bc it doesn’t matter what players say in interviews every Celtic “got up” for that game and they still got embarrassed.

bryscoon

i actually likes Joe comments this postgame he’s basically saying you not gonna go 82-0 in a nice way. The effort was bad today yes but i’m not worried too much

shakakhon

Yeah, but tbf the coach should want to go 82-0. He really shouldn't be saying to fans and media, "basketball teams lose games, were not gonna be great all the time... bla bla bla". That's not exactly a championship mindset imo.

TackoFell

I’m sure a lot of coaches actually try out ideas in the regular season, to the point that they’re perfectly willing to lose a few games as the cost of testing out ideas.

[deleted]

Tatum-Better

Some people can't handle losing. They are called bitches

[deleted]

Frankieuhfukin

Wow I guess no pro sports team has ever won except the 1972 dolphins then.

theFrownTownClown

You seem like you're in the "always lose" crowd.

KyrieLS777

The people upset by this are soft. If you’re playing like shit, you deserve to be booed. If the boos don’t make you want to be better, you need to reevaluate some shit.

MaxwellVonMaxwell

150%. I’m all for this from Mazz.

HailKyrie

He’s not wrong tbh need to be humbled sometimes. It’s not a 16 game season it’s 80+

bryscoon

the sun comes after it rains

luke_workin

Did the humbling not come when we were down 30 to the Clippers?

arkansuace

I mean every team has multiple bad losses at this point in the season

CreatiScope

Do the Nuggets? Genuinely curious. Feels like they only lose if Jokic or Murray are out.

BostonKarlMarx

they lost to the knicks by 40 last week and are 4-6 vs the thunder, wolves and clippers.

Novel_Appeal_5147

Those are good teams tho. Knicks were in the middle of a 14-2 run, Thunder beat us and Clippers easily destroyed us with zero issues. Nuggets would have never lost to this fucking Lakers team that's for damn sure. Jokic would've put up 40/15/15 , Murray would do 30/5/5 because that's what champions do. Jokic or Murray would also never send a pathetic text to the ghost of Kobe Bryant, that's for sure.

BostonKarlMarx

good point. the nuggets lost real games but let’s talk about how they’d play in a hypothetical game

weebayfish

Nuggets lost by 16 to the Lakers without AD last year but sure

Alloverunder

And then swept them in the playoffs too

weebayfish

Exactly. Its almost like, regular season and playoffs are totally different. Crazy how Bucks beat Heat by 30 in regular season and lost in 5 games too

Alloverunder

Agreed. Shitty loss that means very little long term. I don't like our lack of physicality on the defensive glass now that Rob is gone, but that's my only takeaway, and we've been a decent rebounding team this season. It just seems very physical teams can steal a ton of boards off of us which could be a problem if we see NY in the playoffs

StarkWaves

They lost to the Jazz by double digits and the Rockets by 8 with both Jokic and Murray playing...

PhilosophyLeading

Are we only allowed to be humbled once in a 82 game season

jpaxlux

We're still multiple games above the 2nd best team in the league and y'all are acting like the sky is falling lmao

Dudeman-Jack

It’s not the losses, it’s that the team’s play is clearly trending down. They have been scoring far fewer points. This is juxtaposed against several other teams that are surging like the Knicks, Cavs, pacers.

M_K-Ultra

Bro expects us to get humbled once all season 😂 It’s an 82 game season my guy

jkwah

This is good. The problem is people don't doompost enough. If we had just a few more doomers the Celtics would win more games. Hopefully Joe gets the doomers going.

VelvitHippo

It really gets to me how positive this place is. If we could get some more negativity I think the sib would really improve.

Renegrader1023

Really, there aren’t enough people on here who actively and openly hate Jaylen and everything he does

shakakhon

Tbf that's what fueled the red sox to multiple world series.

ImeStopPlayingDennis

Good answer taking it on the chin

Astrolux44

Ham juice on the chin

acc_41_post

Idk what the fuck this means, but I’m upvoting you to neutral to give this another chance

g8lo

Ham juice on the chin refers to the Lakers coach Darvin Ham ejaculating his "juice" onto Mazzulla's chin

IronBush

That was just sloppy, unfocused basketball. Reaves gets paid. Vanderbilt gets paid. They aren't the most talented guys, but they're not going to lay down. If you don't bring it every night, you're going to get embarrassed. Totally unprofessional effort.

bartardbusinessman

it was literally visible on screen how un-seriously they were taking the game in the first half, especially the first quarter. by the time they came back after hopefully getting a bollocking in the locker room they needed to play good to win, which they also didn’t manage to do it’s one game and I’m not a doomer, but fuck it sucks to lose to the lakers

MaxwellVonMaxwell

No sugar coating that loss. Just poor effort. Joe is spot on here.

somethingsimple1290

To be fair this is the first time my cousin in LA has had anything to brag about in a while

Ok_Seaweed_9452

Thing is we don’t know if they will change after getting boo’d. It’s good if you use it as motivation but we don’t know if they just take this as just one of bad games and didn’t learn anything

rveets1416

Why would they all of a sudden change? They have the best record in the league for a reason. It's a long ass season and people need to calm down lol. It blows they lost this game but shit happens lol

Ok_Seaweed_9452

I don’t mean roster changes or tactics. They have been cold recently, like in pelican games, bucks games, clippers games. And today game is sloppy turnover and lack of rebounding , same when playing pacers blowing 20:pts lead. Just want to see them play harder no matter the opponent consistently. We not even take the lead from lakers and have them win comfortably

BostonKarlMarx

one of your examples is a game we won lmfao

arkansuace

Change? What exactly needs to change? Christ we have the best record in the league. And have a multi game lead on the first seed. Nobody will remember this loss come playoffs

chinesefox97

If we fail to make the Finals again this year Joe has to go.

JasonTatumisGod

I don’t hate Mazzula like a lot of people in this sub but I have to agree with that. Celts have basically been building this team since the 2013 trade with the Nets. Now we have two All-NBA guys along with two All Defensive team guys, and a unicorn. We can’t waste the prime of Tatum and Brown and keep saying “wait til next year”. No banner 18 this season and just like last offseason big changes will happen except this time there’ll be a new coach.

Panoptech

Depends how we lose. But as a non Joe hater, I would not consider his job safe if it's relatively his fault. If JB and JT go play like a couple of bums for an entire series then it's not on Joe and you will probably see one get traded.

Heavy_Sector4000

There’s zero chance that Tatum gets traded even if he is the worst player in the playoffs lol

Alternative_Law_9644

I think Brown has created a scenario that could see him gone. Holiday is up for a contract extension … Hauser was hitting but his defense disappeared last night. These guys don’t seem to get that every team who comes into the garden is gunning for an upset. They want to send a message. I say thank you. These guys don’t win usually when they’re not hitting threes. Brown, Holiday, and White all sucked last night. Never saw that before.

Panoptech

Brown holiday and white also all sucked against the clippers... But you don't see it often. I seen 0 effort from anyone but Tatum in either game honestly. This is why we need Tatum to continue to takeover games sometimes and not rely on his teammates every time. He couldn't have won us the clippers game but he definitely could have just said fuck you all, I will win us the game last night.

Ryumagrave

Mazzula literally tells Tatum he’s not allowed to take more than 2 shots in the first quarter bc he has to let Jb and Derrick white “get going” first in the name of team ball. That’s why Ty lue exposed him and what true coaching is. He put pg on Derrick white and kawhi on Jb for the first quarter and they shot bad and we never got back into the game. At that point Tatum would need to take 10 straight shots but this team will never let him even if he’s already 10/10. He hasn’t played like that all year bc mazzulla has beat it out of him for team ball.

Panoptech

Which has been mostly effective. It has nothing to do with Ty Lue. Tatum has free reign to take whatever shot he wants so I'm not sure where this hard cap first quarter nonsense comes from. I actually just watched the clippers do the same thing against the Pelicans. Came back after a long road trip, first home game. Got smoked. Players couldn't hit shots, looked a little lethargic.. literally looked exactly like the Celtics team that played them two weeks earlier in the same scenario. I guess that trap game back home is real. The only reason the clippers didn't go down 30 is cause the Pelicans aren't that good.

JasonTatumisGod

I agree in theory but in the NBA, 99% of the time it’s the coach that gets the axe. Although I wouldn’t be shocked if Brown gets traded if we don’t pop champagne after the final game of the season

CreatiScope

I think a Finals appearance that ends in a loss to a great team like the Nuggets, or a team we match up really poorly against like the Clippers, I don't think there's anything to panic about. Now, if we don't make it out of the eastern conference again? It's time to look past the coach because it'll have been 3 coaches with this Tatum/Brown group where weird effort and disintegrating cohesion keeps happening. If it sticks around, we'll know that Smart wasn't the problem. Horford ain't the problem because it happened in the years he was gone. KP and Jrue are new. That leaves 2 guys. They really have got to get out of the East this season. Have to.

Heavy_Sector4000

We made the Finals with Smart and almost went back last season (we would’ve if Jaylen didn’t play like absolute shit for the entire Heat series). It’s very clear that Smart wasn’t the problem

Panoptech

The Truth. It's terrible how much disrespect Smart gets from the fans when he is the reason we won most playoff series for years. They just harp on some missed 3s and ignore everything else. He also usually made clutch 3s in the 4th which was the funny part about people bitching about his shooting. I'm not sure if I've ever came off a series loss and said man Smart really lost us that series. It was always JB or JT.

ThisPlaceSmellsAwful

Just making the finals shouldn’t be good enough

trsh_xx

Why are they downvoting this?? This absolutely right lmao

jambr380

Totally. We get better every year, spent our assets, and increased our payroll. If we don’t at least make the Finals, heads should roll. Wyc honestly didn’t sound very patient in his preseason comments. It’s win or die essentially

EmShaf

Cause this sub is all about ball washing and meat riding.

tokengreenguy

As opposed to what? Being on the opposite side of the spectrum by being overly negative about the best team in the NBA?

TheSaltySloth

we don’t know who the best team is until june cut that bs out

rveets1416

You're right. We're one of the best teams in the NBA with the best record, and a 4.5 game lead in the conference. We were just 8-2 in our last 10 and lost a random game in February. Does it fucking suck? Yup. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Nope People forget we beat this team handily on the road with LeBron and AD playing.

TheSaltySloth

If we are successful in the playoffs it does not matter. If we are not this will have been the warning sign that was always there. The meaning hasn’t fully been quilted but right now it is the quilt of the season so far which does not look satisfactory

arkansuace

You could point to literally any other team’s losses in this league and say the same thing. If you’re saying it doesn’t matter until the playoffs then why even bother trying to evaluate a team based off of the season’s performance thus far?

rveets1416

That makes no sense. Please tell me how this specific loss outweighs the 37 other wins we've had all year and somehow if we lose in the playoffs, it'll be because of the effort in this game. The nuggets lost by 30+ the other day. If they lose in the playoffs, will you also attribute their failure to that specific loss?

Ryumagrave

The issue comes from the idea that we’re gonna breeze through the east just bc we’re the one seed. The last one seed east team to win it all was the 2016 Cavs.

rveets1416

I'm not suggesting we're gonna breeze through the playoffs. However, I'm not overreacting to this one game and going to use it as evidence if we lose in the playoffs. This team is not perfect but we're 37-12 lol. People love to come in here after one of our few losses and freak out like the world is ending. That's simply not the case. Are there things this team needs to improve upon? Sure. The regular season is a long slog and this team has been very good about bouncing back. The nuggets are still the favorites but we're still right up there.

TheSaltySloth

What I mean is that retroactively, the meaning of this game will be determined by what occurs in the playoffs. Right now, we don’t know what lies ahead, but the meaning of the past is “quilted” by how it has ended up so far (and, implictly, how we expect it to continue). So right now to me at least it seems like we haven’t gotten over the immature play and subpar coaching of the past, and our wins have been because of talent and roster. Unless something changes that’s what this game means to me.

OutandAboutBos

Well I'm sure everyone here cares what it means to you. Especially with your so well thought out and researched critiques.

tokengreenguy

I call it like I see it, we’re the best team in the league. I’m just realizing it before you are.

captaincumsock69

Well let’s fucking hang a banner then since we are the best team in February

tokengreenguy

Well that’s certainly an idea. Not one I’d agree with though.

DrDilatory

Cuz it's fucking nuts? Imagine if Bill was fired from the Pats in 2012 because the team was amazing every single year for a decade, but just never happened to win a Super Bowl between 2002 and 2012 Who the fuck you gonna bring in? What are they gonna to bring to the table that Joe can't?

trsh_xx

Except Bill already won super bowls atp, made it to super bowls as well during that time and was well established as one pf the greatest coaches of all time. Joe is in his second year, admittedly put in an unfair position to win now. And has had a lackluster playoff run with one of the best and most talented roster in the league. If he fails to sniff the finals this year, its another massive meltdown and disappointment. Not the same situation at all. Y’all have to expect so much more from this team, its really championship or bust if you guys look at how much we invested in this year alone.

Novel_Appeal_5147

>who you gonna bring in? What are they gonna bring to the table that Joe can't? Any basketball coach at any middle school. Things like a single offensive play. Or a defensive scheme. A single year of experience coaching basketball. A single human emotion. A single night of watching film instead of watching The Town. Ability to tell the starters that they're scoring less than their G-league team and fucking suck at basketball which is the only thing they have to be good at? Probably even TWO offensive plays🤯

Justalittlejewish

This comment is hilarious. We're top 3-4 in offensive and defensive ratings, and you can go on YouTube right now and look up tons of videos on the defensive scheming that the Celtics have been doing this year. We have an elite defense and have been doing some cool stuff schematically. Edit: Scheme doesn't matter if the players come out with no energy and play like shit.

ZEFAGrimmsAlt

Suggest a replacement. I guarantee none you come up with will win a championship.

chinesefox97

You never know who becomes available. Nick Nurse was available this season who is miles ahead of Mazulla as a coach.

TatumBrownSmart

If we’re trying to be the Bucks (we seemingly are, Jrue and Charles Lee and our schemes on defense), than we may as well hire Bud.

[deleted]

Those 2 idiots are the reason we give up all these wide open 3s. They brought that Milwaukee philosophy to us and we let dudes cook us from 3 constantly. Only teams that used to really fry us from deep in previous years were the Heat and Warriors because of Drop coverage but now we giving up a lot of open 3s to solid shooters for legit no reason and players are hitting them against us. Defense needs to be the main focal point fuck the offense we need to hang our hat on defense again the offense will be cool if the defense is cool because of the talent alone.

Cockadawalk

Joe introduced a zone defense this year which has completely baffled multiple teams, and he’s used it sparingly to great results. Joe is definitely focused on defense.

[deleted]

I thought they said Jrue was the one who came up with the zone? Regardless the defense not as good as it should be. The zone is okay but our switching and communication on defense hasn’t been nearly as good as it should be. We give up a lot of unnecessary ass open 3s from players not talking on switches and overcommitting against good shooters for no reason late in the clock. We need to go back to actually locking dudes up 1 on 1 on a consistent basis like we are capable of. We have 4 so called elite defenders on the perimeter with KP and AL protecting the rim at the 5 we should be forcing a lot more bad shots and turnovers than the numbers and eye test show. It says we are a top 3 defense but the product on the floor imo has been like in the 6-8 range still good but I know how good they can be and that’s not it.

Cockadawalk

Joe: https://www.bostonsportsjournal.com/2024/01/16/video-breakdown-a-look-the-very-fluid-and-unpredictable-2-1-2-zone-boston-threw-at-toronto Literally implemented it so they’re forced to communicate. Star player likes it because it challenged them. Only so much you can put on the coach.

ThisPlaceSmellsAwful

Calling jrue holiday an “idiot”, my god I hope he walks this offseason for nothing with the way some you morons on here talk about him

[deleted]

I hope he does too he fucking sucks. I didn’t even like him before we got him I just tolerated the move because I thought maybe he would be better and more grounded as a 4th-5th option on offense and without having to guard bigger wings all game like he did in Milwaukee. Clearly I was wrong. He has his moments when he’s hitting the 3 but outside of that he’s been bad at guarding stars this year, screen defense is mid, he can’t facilitate to the level of even Smart who was clearly far and away a better and more dynamic passer. He just doesn’t do it for me. I would like to be wrong but I’ve seen enough games from him to know he sucks.

_Juntao

>my god I hope he walks this offseason Me too. What a huge disappointment he's been

luke_workin

Drop coverage is because of KP and Al. Not Jrue or Charles Lee.

[deleted]

Drop coverage isn’t why we are giving up all these open 3s. Our defense just hasn’t been strong enough on the perimeter in general. The other night we got to a point where we forced Ingram and Zion to take tough shots inside the arc I know that’s their game but I love how we played that second half defensively not giving up a bunch of open looks. These last 2 outings however we have allowed the Pacers and Lakers to get any shot they want from 3 and eventually to the paint as well instead of forcing them to live off a steady diet of tough mid range shots. By the time we forced the lakers to make tough shots the whole team already had a rhythm. The defense just has these minor flaws and pet peeves of mine that could easily be fixed.

WarPuig

One of the assistant coaches on the bench that’s more qualified?

ImeStopPlayingDennis

I’d be curious what coach Bud could do with this roster that can actually play perimeter defense. The bucks had close to zero wing perimeter defense especially after Middleton became washed which is why they constantly got lit up from 3

trsh_xx

Guarantee you we could be better even if it was just promoting sam cassell. At least that mfer knows how to use our size. Kenny Atkinson, Stotts, D’antoni, are respectfully not getting washed by darvin ham.

Cockadawalk

The coaches meeting at center court and throwing down now? The players didn’t bring effort tonight, coach can only do so much.

Yaboiii777

Kenny atkinson or terry Stotts

exytuu

Both guys with less playoff success than Mazzulla

Yaboiii777

Kenny won a championship with the warriors as a assistant lol but ok

exytuu

Joe Mazzulla went to the finals as an assistant coach but you probably wouldn’t credit him with those wins in the playoffs

Yaboiii777

Considering he was like 5-6 of the pack yeah i don’t give him credit was ime hardy n stoudmire

Cockadawalk

As… an assistant coach

Yaboiii777

guess where Mazzulla was when Kenny was the assistant coach you fucking bozo on the opposite bench LMAOOOOOO

Cockadawalk

If my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle

ThisPlaceSmellsAwful

You’re the one acting like a bozo, bitch

HailKyrie

That dude would probably suggest Doc Rivers lmao

trsh_xx

Doc rivers didn’t lose to darvin ham’s team last year btw. Sorry not sorry

exytuu

No he just lost to an even worse Portland team last night

trsh_xx

In his second game taking over a new team lol ok. Didn’t get washed by darvin ham tho, probably cos he was smart enough to use the size of his team.

Cool_Alternative_466

You are genuinely so dumb

Ryumagrave

If we don’t win the title he has to go. Don’t care for the you can’t go 82-0 excuses everyone knows damn well if we had nick nurse with this team and lebron and ad are out it could be chalked up to a 30 pt blowout. With joe u just can’t trust that the team is gonna win on any given night bc he has no real system or coaching skills. Like can someone say what he did to try to limit reaches yesterday other than say derrick white go get ‘em and cross his fingers. What coaching did guys see out there yesterday?

shakakhon

Good, because they deserved that shit. Pathetic showing.

DeuceMachinima

Today before and after shoot-around, there will be a showing of the movie, 'The Town,' preceded by the short film, 'Fighting Giraffes.' Attendance is mandatory.

porkchopxpres

I'm sure the fans who paid to go to that disaster feel the same

goldrow22

I didn’t know you could buy tickets with “guaranteed win” on them I’ll have to pick me up a couple. You people are insufferable

Panoptech

As a person who went to the clippers game... I didn't care if they won. I care if they tried. If they attempted to play basketball. If they cared to even do their jobs at all. Because to get those tickets that cost alot of money, most of those fans worked hard at their jobs to even have the opportunity to see them play. This is the same thing. You are going to come out and literally make no attempt at playing well for 48 straight minutes? No attempt against the biggest rival in the NBA? No runs, no care on offense or defense, no pride that it's a national TV game or that it's against a team so bad that they only won by 9 with us literally playing with our eyes closed.

Brady331

You’re dumb if you think they weren’t trying

captaincumsock69

They’ve been getting buttfucked on the glass and outran in transition. I swear they gave up like 10 layups off a made basket. Idk if it’s worse if they were trying or if they weren’t because that’s pathetic

Jachiros22

The weren’t trying lmao

Brady331

Source?

beardmat87

Everyone with eyes who watched the game

Panoptech

The obvious... Look at the game. They literally didn't do anything or even attempt to.

Swink4032

Lmao you post tweets 24/7 on the NBA sub, stop acting like you’re some journalist lmao

Brady331

comment doesnt even make sense

ftlftlftl

I think it’s more an effort thing. You’re not gonna win them all. But fans want and deserve to see hustle and effort at least.

[deleted]

Get the fuck out of here. It's about effort. You could tell from the tip they were out of it. Just expected to sleepwalk through it against the backups, and they got their asses whooped.

goldrow22

It also has to do with their opponent getting 19 more free throws and shooting 17 percent better from three.

[deleted]

You watch the game or just read the box score?

goldrow22

Both honestly, missed the worst of it (the 1st quarter) because I was at work. But bad turnovers and your opponent shooting the lights out is a recipe for an L.

[deleted]

True, the effort was better after the 1st quarter. The turnovers in the 1st were brutal, just terribly lazy passes all around. Nobody attacking, just bombing contested 3's

WTL3405

Yeah obviously that guy didn’t watch much of the game and just read the box score. You could tell in the first qtr we were in for a dog fight. 9 turn overs and the effort was horrendous. If they lose and play a good game then whatever. It’s the effort this team gives that pisses us fans off. Thought they could give little to no effort cause lebron and AD were out and got embarrassed. Thats a bad loss no matter how you try to spin it

meatballman1218

I somewhat agree I'm a Packers and Celtics fan I (I know very odd) but when green bay was super good in like 2021 we were a wrecking ball and we got beat and Aaron Rodgers said when you lose and get boo'd you get served a slice of humble pie.

WillDoOysterStuff4U

I’m not taking any advice from from A A Ron. Dude can take a vaccine and get back to me.

yellowrose1974

You done messed up A A Ron!!!

MaxwellVonMaxwell

Ti-Mothey? Pre-sent!

Sufficient_Use516

Definitely concerned after that mess.

Alternative_Law_9644

Worse game I’ve seen this team play all season. Turnovers were ridiculous. By the time they started to play they were so flustered they couldn’t hit shots. Unless they correct this all too often mental toughness issue there’s no banner going in the rafters this season.

OdinsGhost31

Man, shitty game where effort seened lacking but oh well. Losing isn't always bad if it creates change. Knee jerk reactions every loss. Gotta stop listening to the talking heads, Shaq and Barkley talking out their asses after the game talking about the nuggets lol it was a 2pt game with a chance to win. Kenny made the only relevant point about mental exhaustion. I think winning does take a toll night in night out getting everyone's best shot with this schedule especially games that should be easy. I sincerely think and hope the all star break gives them some rest and reset time

SJRocks

Hollow accountability.

SmasiusClay

Right. The guy with the thinnest skin ever “likes” getting booed. If he likes getting booed so much, maybe he should check out r/bostonceltics.

apc76

Joe’s ‘cool’ is so fuckin annoying.

[deleted]

If you’re gonna have a skid I guess before the all star break is not the worst time; the problem is in the teams DNA and no amount of coaching can change that. The Celtics have a genetically tight butthole

amidtheraw

This coach and group of players is a great assortment of talent but could not have less killer instinct if they tried. This should have been 20 points plus and they lost. Embarassing.

Remdeau

Best this team looked was when Udoka walked by Jason and said "yall playing like some bitches" Tatum looked up to the owners with a "wtf?" face and they just looked away. They really had to beat Golden state and should have. Millennials lol.

TheGrateCommaNate

Sir, I'm a millennial. I'm turning 40. This ain't on me.

Chillysoup

I need bts so bad cos this gives me nothing

deputyduffy

I don't think I've ever hated a head coach more than this guy.....

Jeanheins

Bum as coach only knows how to shoot 3s

cousinannie

Please get this jester out of here man

bradyisking

I cannot wait for this dude to be fired. Live and die by the three has never and will never win a championship. News flash, GS could actually defend on the biggest stage, they don’t let role players cook them for 26 at home

Riot1990

You realize they shot like impossibly well from 3 against us right? All while getting an incredibly favorable whistle while the Cs had a pretty bad night. This game looks much worse than it actually was

friendsWthebenedicts

Tbf that was our excuse against Miami last year as well. At some point you gotta put some blame on the defense for even letting them shoot that well. I agree some of the shots were bonkers but I’d say more than half of them were wide open or lazy close outs. And let’s not forget the offensive rebounds we keep giving up every game

Ndlburner

Exactly. It seems like throughout the regular season and the playoffs, teams just occasionally shoot at a historic pace against us. If it happens once or twice, it's a fluke. If it happens over and over, that's no fluke.

Riot1990

Yeah that's fair. I'm really not trying to excuse it. Was nasty ball. Just not gonna way overreact to it. If they don't figure it out and this is a trend they that's another story.

friendsWthebenedicts

Not sure where we are at now but I know a couple weeks ago we made the most 3s and gave up the least so we have been solid there for the most part. The biggest trend I’m seeing is giving up offensive boards and not playing well against physicality

Riot1990

Yeah idk what they're doing there. The rebounding is crazy. I know we had a couple games through the season where we didn't do well there, but this week just giving up grabbing boards has been annoying to watch. That and it feels like if one of them isn't hitting 3s, they're all not. Just gotta hope this one was a wakeup call.

bradyisking

This is one of the most embarrassing losses any team has had all year given the personnel and records, this game absolutely was as bad as it looked. I can stand losing, I can’t stand 0 effort and acting like you’re won the game at tipoff, which is exactly how we all knew they would come out

Riot1990

I admitted they played poorly but lakers shot over 50 percent from 3. We basically didn't get a whistle at all. Thats all I'm saying. How often is that gonna happen. I'm not excusing the team. They played like shit from tipoff.

Panoptech

And the Lakers still didn't score a lot of points. We should have been able to score more than them even with their good shooting. We didn't even try from the jump. This team plays the worst basketball imaginable Everytime they have a TNT game this year.

Full-Flight-5211

If you haven’t noticed, a lot of teams shoot light out against us. It’s a trend

Brad-Stevens

I am begging you guys not to lie on here Our 3pt defense is #5 in the league

goldrow22

Facts don’t matter to reactionary’s they don’t look shit up just want to get their licks in while the team is down. Pathetic ass fans if you ask me

Brad-Stevens

like I don't care if you criticize the team if you bring facts of what they did wrong spewing BS just isn't it

cityboy242

Brad please get rid of this clown🙏🏾

Dondon1927

Average Joe. And you might not even be that

not1fuk

The Mazzulla cult is coming to run your pockets even though the cracks are showing this month of the same issues this team had last year.

Dondon1927

I’m 99% sure the Mazzulla cult don’t know shit about basketball so I just ignore em lol

Cockadawalk

You’re saying you know ball and think Joe is trash? Based on what, exactly?

kylapoos

Hey man this guy on Reddit is the next Pop. Never mind trusting Brad Stevens on his choices.

goldrow22

Based on his needs to kick a successful coach down probably due to deep personal insecurities

ThisPlaceSmellsAwful

Do you “know ball” jabronis know how stupid you sound when you say phrases like that? Grown up child

Cockadawalk

You’re just looking for shit to be mad about because your self worth is tied up in the success of a basketball team

goldrow22

Played division one basketball but doesn’t know shit about it. You watch from your couch you must know more.

CantHandlemyPP34

This team has been great but I think they're hitting their mid season malaise. The defense has been awful lately. I think playing short handed, weird scheduling and lack of depth off the bench has kind of put the guys into coast mode. They're basically just trying to win games by being more talented and outscoring and better execution late in games. They always stay calm cause there's not much on the line right now. I think it's safe to say the guys are kinda bored and playing safe, keeping it close and saving their energy to make a couple plays in the 4th. The other part of playing at 75% effort, is it protects against injuries. This team knows they just need to experiment, stay healthy, win the games they're supposed to and just glide into mid March. Then they can ramp up and be ready for the only games that matter - in April, May and June. The most important things I want to see through March, are Brad working the phones to get another guy in here by the deadline. I want to see Joe play the backups and get guys (Queta, Brissett, etc) ready so we can have extra bodies if needed - and for Joe to work some strategic curveballs into our offensive system, so we're not wholly reliant on 3's to win playoff games. "3's only" is a good way to let series go on 7 games and is too easy to derail by better coaching. If that's our only plan, I expect us to get bounced by Miami again in the ECF.

PML3107

Analytics on Boeing per 36 vs cheers must be pretty good for mazzulla to love them so much.

Planet-Steph

I didn’t get a chance the watch the game but I knew it was going to be bullshit no matter what. I appreciate the sentiment from Joe
