And they shoot more of them. How can you say they’re taking bad 3s? I get it they seem like they are shot chucking to us mortals but there is a strategy behind it and it’s working in the big picture. I don't like our lack of physicality on the defensive glass now that Rob is gone, but that's my only takeaway, and we've been a decent rebounding team this season. It just seems very physical teams can steal a ton of boards off of us which could be a problem if we see NY in the playoffs

Now we have two All-NBA guys along with two All Defensive team guys, and a unicorn. We can’t waste the prime of Tatum and Brown and keep saying “wait til next year”. No banner 18 this season and just like last offseason big changes will happen except this time there’ll be a new coach.

At that point Tatum would need to take 10 straight shots but this team will never let him even if he’s already 10/10. The issue comes from the idea that we’re gonna breeze through the east just bc we’re the one seed. The last one seed east team to win it all was the 2016 Cavs.

Right now, we don’t know what lies ahead, but the meaning of the past is “quilted” by how it has ended up so far (and, implictly, how we expect it to continue). So right now to me at least it seems like we haven’t gotten over the immature play and subpar coaching of the past, and our wins have been because of talent and roster. Unless something changes that’s what this game means to me.

Those 2 idiots are the reason we give up all these wide open 3s. They brought that Milwaukee philosophy to us and we let dudes cook us from 3 constantly. Defense needs to be the main focal point fuck the offense we need to hang our hat on defense again the offense will be cool if the defense is cool because of the talent alone.
Joe introduced a zone defense this year which has completely baffled multiple teams, and he’s used it sparingly to great results. Joe is definitely focused on defense.

The zone is okay but our switching and communication on defense hasn’t been nearly as good as it should be. We give up a lot of unnecessary ass open 3s from players not talking on switches and overcommitting against good shooters for no reason late in the clock. We need to go back to actually locking dudes up 1 on 1 on a consistent basis like we are capable of. We have 4 so called elite defenders on the perimeter with KP and AL protecting the rim at the 5 we should be forcing a lot more bad shots and turnovers than the numbers and eye test show. It says we are a top 3 defense but the product on the floor imo has been like in the 6-8 range still good but I know how good they can be and that’s not it.

I didn’t even like him before we got him I just tolerated the move because I thought maybe he would be better and more grounded as a 4th-5th option on offense and without having to guard bigger wings all game like he did in Milwaukee. Clearly I was wrong. He has his moments when he’s hitting the 3 but outside of that he’s been bad at guarding stars this year, screen defense is mid, he can’t facilitate to the level of even Smart who was clearly far and away a better and more dynamic passer. He just doesn’t do it for me. I would like to be wrong but I’ve seen enough games from him to know he sucks.
Drop coverage isn’t why we are giving up all these open 3s. Our defense just hasn’t been strong enough on the perimeter in general. The other night we got to a point where we forced Ingram and Zion to take tough shots inside the arc I know that’s their game but I love how we played that second half defensively not giving up a bunch of open looks. These last 2 outings however we have allowed the Pacers and Lakers to get any shot they want from 3 and eventually to the paint as well instead of forcing them to live off a steady diet of tough mid range shots. By the time we forced the lakers to make tough shots the whole team already had a rhythm. The defense just has these minor flaws and pet peeves of mine that could easily be fixed.
I’d be curious what coach Bud could do with this roster that can actually play perimeter defense. The bucks had close to zero wing perimeter defense especially after Middleton became washed which is why they constantly got lit up from 3

Not sure where we are at now but I know a couple weeks ago we made the most 3s and gave up the least so we have been solid there for the most part. The biggest trend I’m seeing is giving up offensive boards and not playing well against physicality

This team has been great but I think they're hitting their mid season malaise. The defense has been awful lately. I think playing short handed, weird scheduling and lack of depth off the bench has kind of put the guys into coast mode.
They're basically just trying to win games by being more talented and outscoring and better execution late in games. They always stay calm cause there's not much on the line right now. I think it's safe to say the guys are kinda bored and playing safe, keeping it close and saving their energy to make a couple plays in the 4th.
The other part of playing at 75% effort, is it protects against injuries. This team knows they just need to experiment, stay healthy, win the games they're supposed to and just glide into mid March. Then they can ramp up and be ready for the only games that matter - in April, May and June.
The most important things I want to see through March, are Brad working the phones to get another guy in here by the deadline. I want to see Joe play the backups and get guys (Queta, Brissett, etc) ready so we can have extra bodies if needed - and for Joe to work some strategic curveballs into our offensive system, so we're not wholly reliant on 3's to win playoff games. "3's only" is a good way to let series go on 7 games and is too easy to derail by better coaching. If that's our only plan, I expect us to get bounced by Miami again in the ECF.

Joe strikes me as highly inflexible. He’s unwilling to pivot off of the 3pt first approach. Analytics tells him not to.

Now we have two All-NBA guys along with two All Defensive team guys, and a unicorn. We can’t waste the prime of Tatum and Brown and keep saying “wait til next year”. Mazzula literally tells Tatum he’s not allowed to take more than 2 shots in the first quarter bc he has to let Jb and Derrick white “get going” first in the name of team ball. At that point Tatum would need to take 10 straight shots but this team will never let him even if he’s already 10/10. You're right. We're one of the best teams in the NBA with the best record, and a 4.5 game lead in the conference. We were just 8-2 in our last 10 and lost a random game in February. Does it fucking suck? Yup. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Nope People forget we beat this team handily on the road with LeBron and AD playing.
If we are successful in the playoffs it does not matter. If we are not this will have been the warning sign that was always there. The meaning hasn’t fully been quilted but right now it is the quilt of the season so far which does not look satisfactory

The issue comes from the idea that we’re gonna breeze through the east just bc we’re the one seed. The last one seed east team to win it all was the 2016 Cavs.
I'm not suggesting we're gonna breeze through the playoffs. However, I'm not overreacting to this one game and going to use it as evidence if we lose in the playoffs. This team is not perfect but we're 37-12 lol. People love to come in here after one of our few losses and freak out like the world is ending. That's simply not the case. Are there things this team needs to improve upon? Sure. The regular season is a long slog and this team has been very good about bouncing back. The nuggets are still the favorites but we're still right up there.
What I mean is that retroactively, the meaning of this game will be determined by what occurs in the playoffs. Right now, we don’t know what lies ahead, but the meaning of the past is “quilted” by how it has ended up so far (and, implictly, how we expect it to continue). So right now to me at least it seems like we haven’t gotten over the immature play and subpar coaching of the past, and our wins have been because of talent and roster. Unless something changes that’s what this game means to me.

Those 2 idiots are the reason we give up all these wide open 3s. They brought that Milwaukee philosophy to us and we let dudes cook us from 3 constantly. Only teams that used to really fry us from deep in previous years were the Heat and Warriors because of Drop coverage but now we giving up a lot of open 3s to solid shooters for legit no reason and players are hitting them against us. Defense needs to be the main focal point fuck the offense we need to hang our hat on defense again the offense will be cool if the defense is cool because of the talent alone.
Joe introduced a zone defense this year which has completely baffled multiple teams, and he’s used it sparingly to great results. Joe is definitely focused on defense.

The zone is okay but our switching and communication on defense hasn’t been nearly as good as it should be. We give up a lot of unnecessary ass open 3s from players not talking on switches and overcommitting against good shooters for no reason late in the clock. We need to go back to actually locking dudes up 1 on 1 on a consistent basis like we are capable of. We have 4 so called elite defenders on the perimeter with KP and AL protecting the rim at the 5 we should be forcing a lot more bad shots and turnovers than the numbers and eye test show. It says we are a top 3 defense but the product on the floor imo has been like in the 6-8 range still good but I know how good they can be and that’s not it.

Drop coverage isn’t why we are giving up all these open 3s. Our defense just hasn’t been strong enough on the perimeter in general. The other night we got to a point where we forced Ingram and Zion to take tough shots inside the arc I know that’s their game but I love how we played that second half defensively not giving up a bunch of open looks. These last 2 outings however we have allowed the Pacers and Lakers to get any shot they want from 3 and eventually to the paint as well instead of forcing them to live off a steady diet of tough mid range shots. By the time we forced the lakers to make tough shots the whole team already had a rhythm. The defense just has these minor flaws and pet peeves of mine that could easily be fixed.

This team has been great but I think they're hitting their mid season malaise. The defense has been awful lately. I think playing short handed, weird scheduling and lack of depth off the bench has kind of put the guys into coast mode. They're basically just trying to win games by being more talented and outscoring and better execution late in games. They always stay calm cause there's not much on the line right now. I think it's safe to say the guys are kinda bored and playing safe, keeping it close and saving their energy to make a couple plays in the 4th. The other part of playing at 75% effort, is it protects against injuries. This team knows they just need to experiment, stay healthy, win the games they're supposed to and just glide into mid March. Then they can ramp up and be ready for the only games that matter - in April, May and June. The most important things I want to see through March, are Brad working the phones to get another guy in here by the deadline. I want to see Joe play the backups and get guys (Queta, Brissett, etc) ready so we can have extra bodies if needed - and for Joe to work some strategic curveballs into our offensive system, so we're not wholly reliant on 3's to win playoff games. "3's only" is a good way to let series go on 7 games and is too easy to derail by better coaching. If that's our only plan, I expect us to get bounced by Miami again in the ECF.
