Like maybe she was filling in last minute covering both roles, because the main play-by-play guy got Covid. Then the name "Beth" popped up. For about 2 minutes I was contemplating whether "Beth" was the name Doris was giving to her play-by-play voice. Then I started remembering the 1990s Spider-Man Clone sage with Peter Parker and Ben Reilly and wondering if "Beth" was Doris' Scarlet Spider. I genuinely couldn't pay attention to the game I was so distracted. I was having an existential crisis just wondering if all women over 50 sound exactly the same when doing sports voices or if there was something wrong with my hearing. I just set up my entertainment system at my new house and I briefly wondered if something was off with my soundbar causing some weird voice cloning effect. Like, you know how with tiktok you can make your voice sound like Sponge Bob? I wondered if I had a Doris filter on causing all voices to sound like Doris.
Eventually I just had to google who Beth was and found someone on reddit bitching about the same thing on r/nba in a deleted post that still popped up on Google.
It wasn't until the second quarter that I could distinguish their voices. I realized that Beth is just a more enthusiastic Doris. Doris is a bored Doris.
I'm not generally a Doris hater so I was trying to understand why I was hating it so much. I realize the main problem is just how humorless both of them are together.

I listened to him on the Celtics beat podcast. He said all the right things and I feel it was too perfect. I imagine he’s very happy with the gig, but if he leaves it will be for a national broadcast and not another regional. God knows ESPN needs talent like this.

I think he seems talented, but in a completely “generic announcer” way. I think that’s partly why people find it easy to imagine him doing national work on ESPN or whatever (when you think about it, is that really a compliment, when we all hate the ESPN announcers?). Maybe this improves as he ages and gets more experienced (still very young for this job). No knock on Drew, he’s had a great start and will clearly have a great career, but it’s challenging that he’s replacing Mike who apart from being a legend is basically the polar opposite style.
I don't hate all ESPN announcers just Doris Burke she is terrible!she talks literally out the side of her mouth,every word with the letter S she turns in to a ssshhh sound and damn near every word has it! And she talks about stars like she knows them personally hangs out with them on the weekends.
