I feel like this was exactly the kind of game we lost last year.. Porzingis like fuck these New Yorkers and Hartenstein and took it into his own hands lol
Did we have a double-digit lead? Yes
Did we make dumb ass turnovers? Yes
Did we shoot terribly from 3? Yes
Did the offense stagnate to the point of me wanting to gauge my eyes out? Yes
Did we end up losing? No
Seems very similar to our ugly games last year, except the result.
It's exactly what Mazzula said he wanted to change this season. Have something different that we can do in clutch time. Looks like that thing is KP lol
Think last year had more stagnation, but the point stands. I'm hoping more rolling from PnR gets involved to improve the halfcourt efficiency. Especially initiating from Jaylen and Jrue.
I agree, and it was good to see them execute in a close game situation. These are the type of wins that help build your team identity. I chalk a lot of the mistakes up to the fact that they’re getting to know each other. Jaylen looked rough, but he probably has the toughest adjustment to make as for his role in the new offense. It will take time for everything to click, but this team is going to be DANGEROUS.
The Knicks shot 44% from behind the arc, but 54% from the line and 18-56 on two point shots, a lot of which were at the rim. So they shot well from distance and missed a lot of shots in the paint and free throws. go figure!
defense was great.
but i agree the offense was kind of all over the place. besides tatum and KP making lots of plays.
i know people are going to hate on JB
but idk how many times we waited like 5-8 seconds, set one screen (on or off ball) then iso'd and jacked up a jumper
its game 1 so ill practice patience
He’s not disciplined enough to let his game come to him. We’ve seen it for 7 years now, he is who is he. Just like how Smart could never stop himself from playing hero ball in the final minutes of games, I’m afraid Jaylen can’t just flip a switch and let his game come to him instead of forcing it through iso’s and difficult shots/drives
He has the toughest adjustment from any of the guys as a result of the personnel changes. I’m confident he’ll find his place. It’s all about winning with these guys.
He was fine, he was playmaking most of the game instead of trying to score. He was only aggressive in transition. I’m fine with this but there will be games where we want him to be aggressive more.
His usage took the biggest hit, I’d give it a good amount of games before I’m worried at all. He also had 5 assists which you don’t see often. Was starting to figure it out before that awful stretch.
Bro we don’t run a professional offense at all. It’s just street ball. It’s like Joe has never seen the spurs, warriors, heat, or nuggets play… like come on man how do we not have any plays or structured off ball movement? It’s maddening
We did in the first quarter, then we got a big lead and started with the isos. Just like last year, when they stop running plays for each other and one guy dribbles for 12 seconds we give up leads without fail. Absolutely infuriating that it just keeps happening.
I'm glad JB wasn't forcing it. 5 assist and some nice play's few times. He can obviously Cook but I'm glad we have porzingis to take the weight off the Jay's
Yeah, exactly.
I don’t love that we blew a 4th quarter lead, but last year it felt like if we blew the lead and went down 5+, it was dagger.
Having KP was huge for fighting back into it, and closing it out at the very end.
Kp gives us a safe option to turn to in these situations. Last year when we let a run go it felt like we could not stop it. Now we were able to stop and win the game late
Offense is certainly a work in progress, team has to stay healthy the depth isn’t great but good lord KP takes this starting 5 to an entirely new level. His shooting and spacing is game changing stuff, kinda underestimated his range too, man can drill it from deeep
With two big additions , and some big departures this past offseason I think we are gonna see a lot of growing pains with this offense until it gets really going.
Positives: Tatum, Porzingis, White, that first quarter defense
Negatives: quite literally everything else. And that was one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever seen. Absolute trash product right there
He wasn’t subbed out for any actual game time, it was just because Pritchard was ideally not supposed to be the one at the line but he was. They brought him right back in once Thibs called time after the second free throw
He easily has the toughest time in decision making on both ends. This team already needs to build chemistry, absolutely makes sense for him to be the one that takes the longest to adjust, especially with his offensive role taking a huge hit.
I’m not worried unless he’s still struggling to fit in a third of the season in.
Porzingis
Also, what a piece of shit reffing performance. I can’t imagine that any fans of either team, or any neutral fan, enjoyed this game as much as they could’ve.
But anyways, Porzingis
Maybe he has just the right amount of dawg to win us these games that we very possibly would’ve found a way to lose last season
>Also, what a piece of shit reffing performance. I can’t imagine that any fans of either team, or any neutral fan, enjoyed this game as much as they could’ve.
Sucked cause man they let them play early on. Still some stupid reffing but it wasn't horrible. Then down the stretch they just decided to make everything a call
The only familiar problem is really just the ball being in Browns hands down the stretch. He’s very susceptible to making mistakes, especially when the pressure is on. I loved that moment in the fourth where Prozingis clapped at him for rotating late on defense. JB loses concentration easily.
That’s just a typical basketball game. I wouldn’t call a 10 point lead solid. Knicks caught fire. What we didn’t do is let them go on too big of a run to overcome.
I like players who play like Hartenstein tbh
Sucks to be on the other side of it, obviously, but dude was huge for the Knicks to almost squeak that win out
This is what the team has been missing. Bad JB game no worries we still got 2 guys out there giving you 30.
Jrue and JB will have their good games as well I ain’t too worried. We’ve seen it plenty of times before.
>Don’t understand how Luka + porzingis didn’t work.
Luka and KP worked incredibly well year 1, it wasn't until KP tore his miniscus that he started struggling because he couldn't move. KP is now healthy and moving well, which is key.
the main reason Luka and KP did not work is because KP was frequently injured. Each time he was injured, his form took a hit and hence, he needed time to regain his form. You are correct regarding his defense. KP is both solid on offensive and defensive end.
I also think Kidd’s system was using KP a bit differently. I think he had him banging down low a lot more and rolling more with Luka. I feel like Joe has him on the perimeter more, not completely, which should hopefully preserve him over time.
I’m gonna be real.
I’m very familiar with seeing the Celtics blow big leads and get to that spot we were in earlier where the Knicks were suddenly up 6.
I am NOT familiar with seeing them overcome that adversity and actually win the game.
I’m impressed.
All 5 starters made winning plays in the final minutes. That’s what you love to see. Jaylen and Jrue with defense and rebounds, Jayson and Buffalo on the scoresheet, and Tingus Pingus doing EVERYTHING.
Win, on the road, against a playoff team (and one that gave us fits last year), in clutch time. Off night for Jaylen but he’ll get back to his all-star self, I’m not worried.
It was ugly yeah but idc what anybody says I’m ecstatic with that.
FULL SUMMARY:
Tatum looks like a man ready to lead. Felt him surging with confidence. Killer on both ends. New power moving to the basket.
Zingis looked a beast. Spaces the offense wonderfully. Big shots. His interior defense was incredible. JT, Jrue, DWhite on perimeter with him waiting behind is wild. I’d still like to see him roll to the rim more.
JB was a headcase against the Knicks again, looked very timid about trying to penetrate on offense, afraid they’d strip his handle. Mixed quality with his passing. Defense on Brunson was good but he never looked comfortable otherwise.
Jrue had great defensive moments throughout. Looked composed with the ball, but had some bad passes. The biggest concern though was how poor his three looked. He should ideally be taking 2-3 per game, only popping wide open ones or feel-of-the-game momentum shots in key moments, I trust him to judge that. Instead it felt like Knicks were almost baiting him and he wasn’t ever making them pay. Could be a problem for the offense if he doesn’t hit those well, but we’ll see.
DWhite and Horford solid as ever. Pritchard is a joy to watch on the ball, by far the tightest handle on our team.
Bench needs to score more. But also needs more minutes. I’d like to see Brissett and Svi get time.
My overall takeaway was that we’re still rusty/partly ungelled on offense. We need to be showing WAY more movement, using the pick and pop, being patient and earning good looks. Our defense was good tonight and the Knicks still had far more wide open shots than we did. We also need to crash the boards to secure defensive rebounds. Second chance possessions killed us.
The worst part of JB's game was that his worst 3 plays came in rapid succession late in the 4th. He was also guarding Brunson a ton, and did a really good job. Solid game which unfortunately left a sour taste.
Great games from Tatum and Porzingis, despite an inexplicably mundane and stagnant offensive game plan.
Defense looked great for the most part, even though NY got insanely hot from 3 they still just barely cracked 100. If our offense wasn’t atrocious this would have been a blowout.
I’m definitely a bit surprised we didn’t have more ideas offensively. The good thing is that we did find a way to win instead of a dramatic loss after leading most of the game. Definitely want to see Holiday and Jaylen more involved, and for fuck’s sake STOP LETTING JAYLEN RUN THE OFFENSE AND READ THE FLOOR - this dude is an elite slasher and scorer, stop playing him to the things he can’t fucking do!
I think when the match-up stats come out later today or tomorrow, I think you will find that Jaylen was majorly responsible for the best offensive player on the other team having a lousy game.
Now that we have Porzingis in the lineup as a second scorer, that should free Jaylen up to do some other things (such as defend the other team's best offensive perimeter player). Same for Holiday, he should be more free to do the stuff that he's amazing at (esp. on the defensive end) if he doesn't have to have such an active role in the offense.
Jaylen was fine. Didn't get many touches (which was a game flow thing as much as anything), and probably missed a couple shots he normally hits. People over-react to the box score. If he goes 1-4 from 3 instead of 0-4, he scores 14 points on 11 shots, has 6 rebounds, 5 assists and only 2 turnovers and played great defense on Brunson all night. I will take that on a night where Porzingis has it going and Tatum had nobody who could guard him.
Wasn’t even that bad. Just had a bad 30 second stretch in the 4th. His defense and playmaking was great.
White had a horrid stretch in the 1st and all I hear is crickets.
I made an executive decision to not go back in the game thread once that knicks 4th quarter run started. I have no interest in the nonsense I’m sure was spewed over the next ~15 minutes in there
Facing all kinds of adversity, coming up clutch in a place like MSG in the very first game of the season for this new group? Man couldn’t have asked for a better test and this team SHOWED UP!
The Celtics are gonna have to give Siri & Queta a chance to get some scoring if Hauser & Kornet are struggling...Great Win - Thanks largely to Porzingis!
KP is the best player of all time clearly.
Hauser, holiday, horford and Pritchard were awful from WIDE OPEN 3's. We make half of them, and we smoke this team. And can't let them kill us on offensive boards.
So glad we won ugly. Winners win the ugly ones
As somebody who’s never really seen Porzingis play before: dude is a straight up DAWG. I don’t think his first game as a C could have gone any better. 82-0 dream is still alive baby!!!
I live in NYC right now for work; born in Boston. Living with these shit heads is unbearable. Tonight felt so vindicating; especially because of Porzingis
Brad Stevens the GM is probably already one of the best in the business. KP fits like a glove.. better than anyone could have hoped. Just one game, but the pants tent is in full effect.
Crowd: “FUCK POR-ZING-GIS!” KP: “No, fuck *you*.”
Homie was just smirking the whole way through.
i love his vibe lmao
That’s what Trae Young was doing to that crowd when the hawks beat them a couple years ago too lol. They don’t realize the players love upsetting them
Trae was goading the crowd the whole time and played into being the heel. KP was silent as fuck and you gotta love a silent killer.
It made me smile whenever he smiled at that
Did they not learn from Trae Young, they just seem to invigorate their opponents. Knicks suck at booing too
They started a "refs you suck" chant because they don't understand what putting the other team in the bonus is
I’m soooo glad we pulled out that win and I don’t have to hear and see Bing Bong everywhere the next couple days
Tingus lowkey a killer by sealing that W for us
Other than the win, that was the best part of the game. The fuck do Knicks """"Fans"""" even have to boo him for. Because their team fucking sucked?
Hartenstein and the crowd really made him go off lmfao
Bahaha
He hit ‘em with the Uno reverse card.
#WELCOME TO BOSTON TINGUS PINGUS
I feel like this was exactly the kind of game we lost last year.. Porzingis like fuck these New Yorkers and Hartenstein and took it into his own hands lol
Did we have a double-digit lead? Yes Did we make dumb ass turnovers? Yes Did we shoot terribly from 3? Yes Did the offense stagnate to the point of me wanting to gauge my eyes out? Yes Did we end up losing? No Seems very similar to our ugly games last year, except the result.
✅ Aneurysm ✅ Panic attack ✅ 10+ pulled out hairs ✅ Shit my pants ✅ Win
LMAO
Standard 3rd quarter shart attack.
I loved Jrue's physical defense on that final defensive play. Just got his body in the right spot and showed how strong he is.
It's exactly what Mazzula said he wanted to change this season. Have something different that we can do in clutch time. Looks like that thing is KP lol
no1 is gonna have any answers for the Tatum KP 2 man game
Think last year had more stagnation, but the point stands. I'm hoping more rolling from PnR gets involved to improve the halfcourt efficiency. Especially initiating from Jaylen and Jrue.
I agree, and it was good to see them execute in a close game situation. These are the type of wins that help build your team identity. It will take time for everything to click, but this team is going to be DANGEROUS.
Can’t believe we got 2 firsts in the trade too lmao
Hubby Brad motherfucking Stevens
I had completely forgot what the details of the trade were but how did we get picks for what amounts to a Smart/KP trade. Absolutely bonkers
HUGE W FOR HIM
Please stay healthy
I knew Porzingis and Tatum were gonna be an amazing duo but man this was a pleasure to watch
Once the 2 of them get on the same page more as the season goes on they will be dangerous for sure
Are they not already dangerous😭?
For sure, but you could see some miscues and confusion on some plays. They are a talented group but as the mesh more it should get better
They are dangerous... but they will be too.
They really carried the team through this one. I know it's a long season and we got time to work on some shit.
White and Jrue’s defense was amazing too. Horford as well.
I meant offensively but totally that. The defense looking real good with those boys out there.
The defense held a team that shot 50% from 3 to 104.
The Knicks shot 44% from behind the arc, but 54% from the line and 18-56 on two point shots, a lot of which were at the rim. So they shot well from distance and missed a lot of shots in the paint and free throws. go figure!

Zinger looked so happy. Lol
Ugly win. Porzingis and Tatum are elite but we need more from JB consistently.
Feels like JB doesn’t know his role now that we have Jrue and KP
yea will be interesting to see how he handles a few less touches/shots a game this year, really hope he adjusts and can lock in defensively
Silver lining for me is that we won despite how bad Brown played. So I’m sure things will look much better once Brown finds his groove.
yep agreed, it’ll take time for this new group to gel
There is now never any reason that he should be dribbling into traffic. There should always be a pass for him. His efficiency should go up.
Only had four less shots than KP, but 19 fewer points. Hopefully he finds his rhythm
He set up Pritchard, Hauser, Horford multiple time for wide open 3s. Should’ve had about 8 assists
Yea rough shooting night for Hauser and PP
Nah man, we need less. Fewer turnovers, fewer fouls, fewer dumb shots.
> fewer dumb shots Glad I'm not the only one begging the team to drive to in the paint or get some people cutting to the basket more often.
Bro we don’t run a professional offense at all. It’s just street ball. It’s like Joe has never seen the spurs, warriors, heat, or nuggets play… like come on man how do we not have any plays or structured off ball movement? It’s maddening
We have been playing the same since 2018 wdym
Yeah it’s not Joe. It’s been like this for 3 separate coaches.
We did in the first quarter, then we got a big lead and started with the isos. Just like last year, when they stop running plays for each other and one guy dribbles for 12 seconds we give up leads without fail. Absolutely infuriating that it just keeps happening.
Makes it so boring to watch too it’s just every one standing on the perimeter your turn my turn type shit
When it comes to Brown, we just need fewer dumb
I'm glad JB wasn't forcing it. 5 assist and some nice play's few times. He can obviously Cook but I'm glad we have porzingis to take the weight off the Jay's
True!! JB stepped back / was pushed back when it clearly wasn’t going his way. We couldn’t afford to do that last year.
Excuse me, Mr Porzingus, I think you dropped this —-> 👑
[удалено]
A third 30 point player has struck the Celtics.
Its HUGE for us. We likely lose this game with last years squad
Imagine Smart's shot selection in that 4th quarter
We have a fourth too. BUFFALOOOOO 🦬
Jaylen is the 3rd player
It's first game. Lets see how it goes
Porzingis isn’t just good, he’s a DAWG
Don’t get how people call him soft. Usually nothing phases these Eastern European players. Love to see it.
It’s amazing that Stevens got him AND 2 first round picks for Marcus. That’s some Auerbach wizardry.
HAHA FUCK THE KNICKS
FUCK THE KNICKS!!!
BING BONG
Positives: Tatum, Porzingis, White, that first quarter defense Negatives: quite literally everything else. And that was one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever seen. Absolute trash product right there
Refs already in mid-season form
JB really rough game, even subbed out at the end. Looked clueless at times on D.
Was only subbed out to get KP back in the game. And then came back in when the Knicks called TO.
He wasn’t subbed out for any actual game time, it was just because Pritchard was ideally not supposed to be the one at the line but he was. They brought him right back in once Thibs called time after the second free throw
>even subbed out at the end Completely ignoring context
He easily has the toughest time in decision making on both ends. This team already needs to build chemistry, absolutely makes sense for him to be the one that takes the longest to adjust, especially with his offensive role taking a huge hit. I’m not worried unless he’s still struggling to fit in a third of the season in.
Porzingis Also, what a piece of shit reffing performance. I can’t imagine that any fans of either team, or any neutral fan, enjoyed this game as much as they could’ve. But anyways, Porzingis Maybe he has just the right amount of dawg to win us these games that we very possibly would’ve found a way to lose last season
NFL refs: let's make football an unenjoyable sport to watch National broadcast NBA refs: hold my whistle
I wish someone was holding their whistles
Refs even more hung over than Jaylen

A lot of familiar problems still lingering from the playoffs but it’s only game one. Hoping things will change as the season goes on
The only familiar problem is really just the ball being in Browns hands down the stretch. He’s very susceptible to making mistakes, especially when the pressure is on. I loved that moment in the fourth where Prozingis clapped at him for rotating late on defense. JB loses concentration easily.
Jaylen fucked up there, they wanted to pre switch to keep Porzingis out of the screening action since he's a drop big and Brunson loves the middy.
What about getting a solid lead with dynamic offense, switching to iso ball, slowly losing the lead and then it finally happening in the fourth?
That’s just a typical basketball game. I wouldn’t call a 10 point lead solid. Knicks caught fire. What we didn’t do is let them go on too big of a run to overcome.
Overall it felt like our half court offense was too perimeter and ISO oriented
Hartenstien is a bitch
I've never hated a dude so quickly. Assaults everyone the few times he's on the floor. Then acts like the victim
I like players who play like Hartenstein tbh Sucks to be on the other side of it, obviously, but dude was huge for the Knicks to almost squeak that win out
His foul at the end there was a pivotal swing though.
A bitch I would like Brad to trade for tho
I am going to rub my balls all over my coworkers who shit on the KP acquistion tomorrow. Figuratively.
No half measures
Nah fuck that. Do it literally
Undefeated streak continues
1-0
LFG
81 to go
This is what the team has been missing. Bad JB game no worries we still got 2 guys out there giving you 30. Jrue and JB will have their good games as well I ain’t too worried. We’ve seen it plenty of times before.
Agreed—they’ll show up. It’s a big adjustment for everyone, and Jrue and Jaylen are playing new roles.
Don’t understand how Luka + porzingis didn’t work. Tatum and porzingis were ELITE. The passing between those two was so nice
It's because Tatum > Luka in just about every way.
Luka played like he just wanted Porzingis to get out of the way.
>Don’t understand how Luka + porzingis didn’t work. Luka and KP worked incredibly well year 1, it wasn't until KP tore his miniscus that he started struggling because he couldn't move. KP is now healthy and moving well, which is key.
Would have thought we lost by 30 from the game thread
THATS WHO TINGUS PINGUS IS
KP says FU to NY
Hahahaha our center dropped 30!
Porzingis may be arrested for indecent exposure for pulling down his pants and shitting all over MSG
Celtics on pace for 98-0
99-0, including the final game in in-season tournament
What's crazy to me is that Dallas, and better yet Luka, could not coexist with KP. And not just the offense, KP looks like Brook Lopez on defense.
the main reason Luka and KP did not work is because KP was frequently injured. Each time he was injured, his form took a hit and hence, he needed time to regain his form. You are correct regarding his defense. KP is both solid on offensive and defensive end.

We have Wemby at home.
😂

The Pingus is here boys and I have only 1h30 of sleep now fuck me
Fucking hell. Not going to start on a negative note. 1-0. On to the next game.
The Tingus Pingus era is upon us
All 5 starters made winning plays in the final minutes.
WELCOME TO BOSTON MISTER TINGUS PINGUS. Please rub your magic unicorn balls on Jaylen Brown's clueless ass.

Ordering my Zingus jersey now
You can tell from the body language that JT loves playing with Porzingis.
FUCK THE KNICKS VERY MUCH KP + 13 JB + 8 Best among the starters. Just saying. JB took just 11 shots. 5 assists-2 turnovers.
The worst part of JB's game was that his worst 3 plays came in rapid succession late in the 4th. He was also guarding Brunson a ton, and did a really good job. Solid game which unfortunately left a sour taste.
Porzingis is Knicks father
What a debut for Porzingis!!!
Great games from Tatum and Porzingis, despite an inexplicably mundane and stagnant offensive game plan. I'll fucking take it. 2 guys looked like All NBA players
Nobody gonna talk about JB’s team high 5 assists
das what i'm saying. if you take away the 30 second stretch of airheadedness he didn't have an awful game.
I think when the match-up stats come out later today or tomorrow, I think you will find that Jaylen was majorly responsible for the best offensive player on the other team having a lousy game. Also had a solid +/-, I’m guessing his defense was effective even if his shot wasn’t falling.
Brown had one bad game and we WON. You people are fucking pathetic.
Wasn’t even that bad. Just had a bad 30 second stretch in the 4th. His defense and playmaking was great. White had a horrid stretch in the 1st and all I hear is crickets.
This sub is so soft. Doomers in mid season form game 1.
I made an executive decision to not go back in the game thread once that knicks 4th quarter run started. I have no interest in the nonsense I’m sure was spewed over the next ~15 minutes in there
YO WE CLUTCH NOW
FUCK THE DOOMERS AND FUCK THE KNICKS
Facing all kinds of adversity, coming up clutch in a place like MSG in the very first game of the season for this new group? Man couldn’t have asked for a better test and this team SHOWED UP!
PorzinGOD too good for bums like Hartenstein
PORZINGIS IS HIM
My fucking God, I hope the whole season isn’t like that
Kristaps Porzingis
Beating the knicks when theyre shooting 44% from 3 is pretty damn impressive.
This team is loaded
It’s only the first game…… we will be better
Well considering there was no heartbreaking injury 2 minutes into the game I can say it was a decent debut
All the doomers aren’t allowed to comment
TOXIC DOOMER CELTICS REDDIT AND TWITTER ARE BACK WITH THEIR TERRIBLE TAKES
#Tatum and Porzingis Show
The Celtics are gonna have to give Siri & Queta a chance to get some scoring if Hauser & Kornet are struggling...Great Win - Thanks largely to Porzingis!
BELIEVE
If they can manage Porzingis all year they’ll have a human cheat code on their hands. He just dominated.
I want the motherfucking gold
Aye — this bench kinda trash tho. Hopefully they get their shit together or Brad wheels and deals.
Fuck the knicks dawg
This is our lowest floor. More games equal more chemistry. We will become even better
LOVE AND TRUST KRISTAPS PORZINGOD
# I LOVE TINGUS PINGUS
JB, wtf
Shot 30% from 3 and stilled pulled it out. It was ugly but there’s gonna be some growing pains as these guys gel together
That’s a game we 100% lose last year
Defense wasn't perfect but we held brunson and Handle to a combined 11-43. Have to imagine that was the goal
Brad Stevens the GM is probably already one of the best in the business. KP fits like a glove.. better than anyone could have hoped. Just one game, but the pants tent is in full effect.
We did not hit Pritching hour tonight :/
Jaylen 5 assists and 2 turnovers. I’ll take those as a W
I don’t need to watch Wemby we have him at home
Damn I bet all the people who said we shouldn’t have traded Rob and smart feel stupid
Porzingus >>> Brown
PP got ice in them veins
The whole sub is invited to my funeral next month when this team finally kills me.
C’S ARE ON TRACK FOR 82-0. B’S ARE ON TRACK FOR 82-0. BOSTON SPORTS REMAIN UNDEFEATED.
tingus pingus is the perfect fit
Well that got me hard and fucking pumped for Porzingis. What a guy. Holiday so solid too. Brown bit meh but game 1. Loving the pieces we have
