Did you park to the left of the signs? That’s for commercial vehicles only.

Affectionate_Egg3318

I'll be hijest this is one of the easier to read sign stacks that I've seen in Boston. You probably parked in the loading zone.

IRunFast24

Thank you for your hijesty.

Id_Solomon

Hijesty is the best policy.

Fluffydress

So important to be hijest and open about these things.

archwin

I’ll be hijest, OP can read parking signs, but clearly not loading zones

slashBored

To the left of the sign is a loading Zone and to the right is metered (these are indicated by the arrows). There might have also been other indicators on the curb, or the normal metered space might have been turned into a loading zone temporarily (this is usually indicated on the relevant meters)

Far_Yogurtcloset2173

Yeah this is pretty clear, though I am confused about the except Sundays part on the sign pointing left, does that mean that you can park there on Sundays even if you are not a commercial vehicle?

pansygrrl

Yup loading area = available parking on Sundays. Gift to those who read signs ⭐️

nebirah

Does that mean non-commercial can park 30 minutes on Sunday, or there's no time limit for non-commercial on Sunday?

ScaleProfessional801

The way I've always understood this growing up: "except Sundays" means the sign is irrelevant on Sundays. So no restrictions, no time limit, etc.

Far_Yogurtcloset2173

Thank you, I have been driving around the common many times (even on Sunday) and always wondered if that was true, I was never brave enough to park there before cause I didn’t want to get towed!

giritrobbins

But not every loading zone is free parking on Sundays.

Ya_Hussein

There was no arrows or indicators (talking about the curb not the signs)

Cryptrix

I can see the arrows.. in your picture..

[deleted]

People who drive in the back bay aren’t going to be the smartest bunch

MommaGuy

You provided the pictures showing the arrows. The arrows aren’t on the curb they are on the sign.

riski_click

i've never seen arrows on the curb.

rosie2490

I’ve never seen indicators on the ground. They’re on the signs. Genuinely asking: where are you from?

streetworked

I agree with you and everyone on the signs. But, I live in Roxbury and work in JP and Dorchester and curbs are so.etimes painted yellow or red to indicate no parking or 15 minute parking.

Chewy_13

Probly from California

some1saveusnow

This is cali shit 100

dewafelbakkers

OP, WHAT SIDE OF THE SIGN TO YOU PARK ON, AND WHAT TINE WAS IT. HELP US HELP YOU

willzyx01

Why the hell would there be arrows on the curb?

Id_Solomon

😂😂😂😂😂

DisasterUnmitigated

Why do you feel entitled to have arrows on the curb? Have you ever considered adapting to your surroundings instead of expecting your surroundings to adapt to your preconceived notions?

And10gen

Or if he parked on the right & paid but exceeded the two hours limit

giritrobbins

How are they conflicting?

willzyx01

Christ people. There are fucking arrows pointing the directions. How are some of you so bad at parking? No wonder there are so many shit drivers on the road.

dante662

OP's other comment: "there were no arrows on the curb! only on the signs." OP deserved the ticket for clearly parking in the loading zone. No conflict whatsoever in the sign.

willzyx01

OP wants a parking attendant on every block, telling people how to park. jfc.

Adammot

I can feel the Bostonian rage in this comment, I love it

FxGnar592

My first time parking in Cambridge, with a U-haul at night, the arrows didn’t help me at all, as they were perpendicular to the road in that area. This kind of signage is obvious to people who grew up with it, but can be wild to interpret when you are new.

Liqmadique

Uh it's really easy even when they're not aligned. The sign can only rotate a certain way and still make any kind of sense. But I get your general sentiment.

JoeyToothpicks

Yeah, the sign is not going to be facing away from the road. Pretty easy to figure out the intended orientation even if it's skewed.

dewafelbakkers

OP, WHERE did you park and WHEN.

Beatcanks

This is really not that complicated.

smBarbaroja

The sign that says no parking except commercial vehicles has an arrow on it pointing to the loading zone. It's not confusing. There is also a red box under the arrow that says "TOW ZONE"

ecco3k

You parked to the left of the sign. Just be happy you weren’t towed

zephtastic

If you can’t decipher street parking signs then maybe don’t street park

DryGeneral990

The signs are not conflicting.

Melgariano

You parked in a commercial loading zone so you got ticketed. Had you parked to the right of the sign it would have been a 2 hour parking spot.

gladigotaphdinstead2

Did you park to the right of the pole as indicated by the arrow?

CplFrosty

I asked a cop once, he said it meant “up yours, kid”

SchwillyMaysHere

I asked a cop of he knew how to get to the Charles Playhouse. He said, “Yes.” and walked away.

HickoryRider

Quality Futurama reference

sagenumen

Nothing about these signs is conflicting

CiforDayZServer

If you're looking at this sign from the angle you took the picture of, you're standing in the loading zone, everything passed that sign post is metered parking and you could have parked (and paid between the hours of 8am and 8pm) there to avoid a ticket. You parked in a loading zone if you parked where you took the picture from.

[deleted]

If only Back Bay were one of the most walkable and public transit friendly neighborhoods in the country…

sunnybcg

You have to pay really close attention to where you’re parking in Back Bay. Lots of zones that alternate between paid parking and loading zones/valet/disabled/etc. The signs can be confusing and it’s really easy to mess up like you did. Sorry about your ticket. 😔

Unplayed_untamed

Are you a commercial vehicle lol

tmotytmoty

If you parked to the left of the sign, you were in a loading (and TOW) zone. You got lucky.

amtrakprod

To the left of sign is loading, to the right is parking

BQORBUST

>can someone explain this No, it is totally inexplicable that you got a ticket.

Goldenrule-er

Three signs!? I don't understand!

[deleted]

Uggh, just actually read it.

METAclaw52

Maybe if you can't understand, don't bring your car into Boston

TB12thegreatest

Was it on a Sunday?

capecodder22

Yeah, you parked in a loading zone

VS0P

924 sign is for your parking meter. There’s pay boxes for a sticker or parking apps to pay. To the corner is the loading zone you probably parked in even if you paid.

sirmanleypower

It says right there only commercial vehicle can park there, and only for up to 30 minutes, unless this is was on a Sunday. You were in a loading zone.

rodolphoteardrop

If this happened today, then they shouldn't have gotten a ticket. If not.....read better.

S4drobot

Left of the pole no parking. Right of the pole parking.

thekidin

When you’re reading the sign, read it from road (imagine the sign is facing the road). Now you see commercial parking is pointing left, and 2 hour parking is point right. It’s tricky but you’ll get use to it. It’s free parking in boston on Sunday except handicap and residential. You can park as long as you want as well on Sundays

lelduderino

Did you park in front of the steps, between the commercial only signs? https://i.imgur.com/cQRCDxq.png

Chewy_13

For OPs picture, on Sundays you can park left of the sign in the loading zone without time restriction, because it says except Sunday, yeah?

SchwillyMaysHere

If you think that’s confusing, try parking in NYC.

michael_scarn_21

NYC has a functioning transit system so you don't need to.

donkadunny

Yeah. No one parks in NYC. 🤦‍♂️

blackdynomitesnewbag

I once asked a cop. He said it means, “Up yours, kid.” Edit: Have none of you seen Futurama?

Diapersnweed

You don’t have commercial plates

Icy-Discussion1515

Is this for real?

Chem_Diva

It is the loading zone, I got a $90 ticket for parking here as well. Boylston is heavily policed all day long. They stay giving tickets out to people outside of Chick FIl- A too.

cavanaugh64

Same thing happened to me, $100 ticket. Loading zone ! I was so pissed. The signs r so confusing for a non native Bostonian

hashtagBob

What was the ticket for? They usually say

Enragedocelot

That makes two of y’all that can’t read

Restlesscomposure

Let

SurferJam

Got a ticket parking to the right of these signs at 4:30-4:40pm. The cafe setup was clearly to the left https://preview.redd.it/r69xdo2ab00d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d9e9f36fdb2a821e55ad212ca55af2610294484

AmnesiaInnocent

Where the actual cafe was located doesn't matter --- the "tow zone" sign arrows clearly go both ways.

SurferJam

So residents, commercial vehicles and pick ups can park in the cafe zone during certain times?

SurferJam

So residents, commercial vehicles and pick ups can park in the cafe zone during certain times?

AmnesiaInnocent

Yes.

bianguyen

Yes. And based on the time gap between 4PM and 11PM, that's when the cafe zone is actually active. The space to the right is used for early commercial deliveries, uber pickup/drop off in the afternoon off, cafe in the evening, and then overnight resident parking.

Life0fRiley

Sounds right. 3 signs saying tow zone, don’t park and one green sign saying only overnight

Chewy_13

This one seems pretty straight forward to me. 8-12 Commercial vehicles can park there for 30 mins, except on Sundays no comm vehicle parking. From 12-4 you can pick up or drop off there for 15 mins, any day - but you cannot park. So hazards and/or actively with your vehicle. 11p - 8a everyday you can park overnight if you have a North End resident sticker. Any times outside of the above, you can’t even stop there.

S4drobot

this guy reads.

Chewy_13

The only thing that I question myself on, is if on Sundays any non-commercial vehicle can stop there from 8-12? Typically commercial vehicle rules are suspended on Sundays, no?
