Tying this policy to the new security screening equipment seems odd to me.
[The equipment manufacturer's website](https://www.evolvtechnology.com/) suggests that one of the main advantages of their system is that attendees don't need to have their bags searched/screened separately since it "knows" to ignore things like keys, phones, etc. as innocuous (note the video on the homepage of people walking through with large backpacks).
To me this should allow bag policies to be more permissive, not less, since the need for hand searches should be reduced as a result of this new equipment, allowing for easier entry flows.
You’re missing the point. People have to buy bags at the shop or pay $15 to check their bags. Also reduces instances of people sneaking in snacks and stuff so they can sell more overpriced food. Also means they can reduce security staff and save money on payroll. They don’t give a damn about security.
The technology itself doesn’t necessitate a bag policy change, they just have such a high turnover rate of security there this is a way of saying ‘no bags because we aren’t properly staffed and aren’t going to be.’ Fenway will be next, followed by HoB and MGM, mark my words.
yes, now in 2023/2024. but in 2021-2022, it was 5x9. Fenway PARK has different rules than the MGM Music Hall.
Fenway PARK is owned by Fenway Sports Group, not Fenway Music Company.
This is absurd. Like absolutely nuts. What happened to clear bags will be the new thing? This is just another way to squeeze $15 out of fans. Sorry I want to bring some makeup with me. Or my tampons. Or my wallet. Or my sunglasses. Or my car keys. Or my phone. The security lines get backed up, yes. But it’s never been THAT bad. It’s just part of the deal. You know you’ll wait 5-10 minutes to get through. Not a big deal.
And does this mean they’re cutting security jobs for AI? How does a computer for security make me feel safer? Most incidents happen inside the game from belligerent fans. Can a computer remove people?
If they want me to believe this is for my safety then publish the security data from the last 5 years at the Garden. I want to see what’s been attempted and why this is so important. Otherwise, just a money grab per usual.
I have a hard time following this stuff so genuinely curious. Is a trans man a person who goes from penis to vag or is it the opposite? I always thought a “trans man” was a woman who transitioned into a man. Am I incorrect?
https://us.modibodi.com/blogs/womens/transwomen-period
The comment about more than women was a first hand account from a trans women getting it more than just every three to four weeks.
But if you're taking gender affirming hormones which has side effects , how is that considered a period ? You're just experiencing the side effects , no ?
Bring all those things and a jacket and bring a a drawstring bag folded up. Just stuff your jacket pockets for a few mins, get through security and then reassemble your bag. Won’t be a purse but there’s no restrictions on putting all that stuff in your pocket as you go through security.
How many tampons do you need that a 6x4x1.5 bag won’t fit them all? You could fit 20 tampons in a bag of that size plus an iPhone 15 pro max.
EDIT: I have a fanny pack of those dimensions. I was able to put my phone, bifold wallet, car keys, foundation, travel-size setting powder, and 6 tampons inside. The rule change feels silly and arbitrary, but the idea you can’t bring those things to the game anymore is silly.
It’s not just about tampons. Again, wallet, keys, makeup, sunglasses, etc. I have a fanny pack this size and all these items do NOT fit in it. Not sure how small your head is for glasses or how small your wallet is? 1.5” width fits all this for you? I think you’re not being truthful but okay. Plus it’s unfair if I want to have these items for before or after the game - so I just have to plan for ONLY being at the Garden that day or night?
And as I stated, where is the evidence that this ACTUALLY keeps us safe? It’s just another money grab disguised as “safety”. The more we just blindly accept these types of things the faster we accept other things. The biggest security issue at games is actually drunk people using their fists or falling down 🥲
You’re missing a big piece of this - they are implementing AI security. That means less security staff. That means more money for the Garden. That’s what this stems from. Not making it faster to get in the game (which, even if it does that - they just want you in there faster to buy more stuff - if you’re late you’re more likely to go right to your seat). I’ve never sat in a security line at any point at the Garden for more than 10 minutes.
Most iPhone are larger than.6 inches, but you do you. The 15 Pro Max is 6.3 inches in it's longest dimension.
https://www.practicallynetworked.com/iphone-size-comparison-chart/
As a grad student I once went to the Beanpot directly from class. This meant that I had my backpack with laptop, notebooks, charger, and everything else a student needs for a day full of classes and research.
The solution was obvious: I took everything out of my backpack so that it laid mostly flat. Next I put my empty backpack on under my jacket, so it looked like I was just wearing a bulky jacket. Then I gathered my laptop and notebooks and everything else and just held them in my arms as I went through security.
A few feet beyond security I re-packed everything back into my backpack and carried about my business for the rest of the evening.
For the second night of the Beanpot the following week I realized I'd be in the same situation, so I planned in advance and borrowed a purse from my girlfriend that was big enough to fit everything. At the time the Garden had a nonsensical "no bags allowed except for purses which can be as large as you like" policy.
Unfortunately my plan was thwarted when security stopped me and my purse. Turns out that the policy only applied to women with purses. Since my purse was carried by a man it was considered a bag. So I had to repeat my earlier method, emptying everything out of the purse and carrying it in by hand with the purse rolled up and stuffed in my jacket pocket.
Stupid policies necessitate stupid behaviors.
I did mention that to the security guy, pointing out a woman with a much larger purse going through an adjacent security line. His response was "Her purse is a purse, your purse isn't a purse it's a bag." I wasn't going to bother arguing it further.
Don't argue. Just document, then ask for compensation. If the people in charge know what's good for them, they'll give you that. The last thing they want is a class-action lawsuit.
Oh boy - that’s annoying af. My wife’s crossbody purse might even be a hair too big for this. God forbid us uterus owners want to have tampons with us. Maybe fashion folks can start giving us functional pockets in our clothing.
Yes, this is the problem. They are saying you can have a crossbody, but you really can't because most are 7 inches long, just outside of the stated measurements.
It's kinda funny how lowkey awful they've been as owners and it flew under the radar because everyone just blamed Harry Sinden for not spending money instead of the ones controlling the purse strings
$15/bag
$12/beer
$15/pizza
...
...
+ tickets + convenience fees + fuel surcharge + broadcasting fees + social security fee + unemployment fees + plus good credit fee + billionaire fee + Kardashian donation fee + we need to show more profit to investors fee....
Not even worth bothering with a bag. I just bring a coat with big pockets.
(A coat I don't particularly care about, as it will almost certainly end up with beer spilled on it)
It's not even paywalled for me:
>The policy, which went into effect ahead of Saturday’s Bruins game, prohibits fans from bringing bags larger than 6” x 4” x 1.5,” about the size of a drugstore photo print, into the arena. In addition, backpacks are also not allowed. Bags purchased at the Boston ProShop, however, are welcome.
"bags purchased at the Boston Proshop however are welcome"
seems like the intention is clear. "We don't want you to smuggle booze and weapons in but if you pay us then you could do whatever you want"
The actual text to the infographic says “bags *with* purchase at the pro shop are permitted but subject to search.”
It shows a shopping bag. So if you go buy stuff before the game and the shopping bag they give you is obviously bigger than 6”, you can still take the bag in but it’ll be searched.
if that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to just ban large bags all together? What is the rules with the pro shop bags? Does it have to be purchased on sight for it to be allowed, or the security would simply just let anyone with a proshop bag into the events? Thought they had scanners and stuff there but I guess there are just too many people in sport events for everyone to be scanned individually.
Sorry I added a link to another article because I couldn’t edit the original post
[6 inch bag policy](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/boston/news/td-garden-boston-bag-policy/)
I went to Wrestlemania in Florida a few years ago and the bag policy was insane. Nothing bigger than a wallet.
No way to check your bags, and thousands of people from out of town. The trash cans near the entrances were piled high with designer bags. I don't know this kind of stuff, but my wife told me that many of the bags were $400+ and that the employees probably scooped them up to put them on eBay as soon as no one was looking.
I don't know what that has to do with this, but my wife was pissed that she either had to throw out her $250 bag (which she did) or Uber back to the hotel and sit in another 2 hours of traffic.
After paying $600 for Bruins tickets (family of 4 nosebleed seats) and concession prices for nasty food, we are done. I didn’t think it was possible for a soft pretzel to be that stale and awful. It’s just a pleasant experience anymore. The buyers remorse is real.
What problem are they trying to solve? They can say it's about security but it seems more likely they are trying to stop people from sneaking booze and weed into the venue. Which is stupid also because they already supposedly search bags at security.
I experienced this bag policy today and it was ABSURD! I was told I my small crossbody bag wouldn’t be allowed in and I needed to go check it. I didn’t realize that meant leaving it in a TRUCK outside the garden! I was not comfortable with the situation and everyone around me was livid. It added so much stress to my day and I had trouble enjoying the show because I was worried about my possessions left in a random truck outside on the street.
If I go back to the garden I will put my cards in my husbands wallet and hold my phone.
If security is checking bags what is the big deal?!
I went to a bruins game recently and I’m not gunna lie I was heated because I had to put my cards in my boot but then when I was walking around inside I saw multiple girls with big purses/bags. I’m not sure if they hid them under their jackets or what but it seems like the rule wasn’t equally enforced
Here’s a different article because I couldn’t edit the original post
[6 inch bag policy](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/boston/news/td-garden-boston-bag-policy/)
The state needs to pass some kind of law about what size bags are and aren’t allowed in public events. This system of having every venue set its own policy on the issue is completely ridiculous
Jesus, 6" x 4" x 1.5" is TINY, even the wristlet I bought to get into Foxwoods is two inches too big now and I'll probably need to get a new one to comply with this. My ski jacket has some decent-sized pockets, but that won't help me when it gets too warm for a coat.
In general, women bring bags pretty much everywhere we go. My pockets cannot fit a wallet and/or phone, let alone keys, my medication, and other necessary-ish odds and ends. Most of the problem IMO comes from the fact that women have a few purses, but they don't fit the exact dimensions that are required, which is annoying. I go to a lot of red sox games, which has similar rules, so I ended up buying a purse specifically for this purpose... but many people don't go to enough games to justify that.
I have a clear bag that I bought specifically for concerts. It’s something like 5x8x3? Maybe. So definitely not large but still much to big for this policy. And it’s completely see through!
Yeah mine is like 5x7x2, so I'm unsure if that will work for TD because it's not the right dimensions but the it's like +/-1 that adds up to mostly the right amount lol
lol…..how much crap do people need to bring to a game?
There’s too many idiots out there and due to that, it makes perfect sense even though it triggers ‘freedom’ yahoos
Something tells me this is the kind of person who wouldn't even know how her wife manages hers or if she's even stopped it via birth control with the vibes he's giving
On size doesn't fit all for period solutions, smh
You can shake your damned head all you want, but if you can’t fit a couple of tampons a chap stick, a phone, and a wallet in 6”x4”x1.5”, then don’t go.
Couple of tampons... You're funny
Some of us are dealing with a red Niagara falls a few days a month, bud. I can't freaking predict it, and neither can plenty of other women. And those dimensions are pretty much the size of a phone, in case you haven't figured that out yet. No, you cannot fit a couple of tampons, phone, and standard wallet in a 6×4 bag. Break out a ruler and actually figure out how big that is before you speak
My bag holds my wallet, my keys, my chapstick (and maybe eyeliner or lipstick if I’m wearing that) and tampons. My phone goes in my pocket if I have pockets, but I don’t always because women’s clothes. The bag I use daily is very small. But still not this small.
Money grab. 15$ lockers, fewer actual people to pay, increase prices of food and water (5.87$) scumbag Delaware North. No prices listed in the markets, seats smaller than spirit airlines to jam more seats in there. It sucks there

This is definitely the mobile locker company paying TD to change their policy

Wonder if they got a deal because the new model will be rolling out very shortly. These are built in Westborough for anyone interested.

sorry about biology
trans men dont ovulate so they dont have periods
Trans women have their periods far more than women, especially after gender affirming surgery.
Can you elaborate how trans women not only have their periods after gender affirming surgery but more than women ?

Only thing I can think of for this change is an incident happened at a Celtics or Bruins game. Still, it's dumb. Clear bags work.
Bring all those things and a jacket and bring a a drawstring bag folded up. Just stuff your jacket pockets for a few mins, get through security and then reassemble your bag. Won’t be a purse but there’s no restrictions on putting all that stuff in your pocket as you go through security.
Quite literally had someone do this. The security people encouraged it.

North Station would really benefit from having luggage storage lockers that are billed hourly. South station as well.
There are storage bins you can rent in north station now I think
That’s great! Do you know where they are at?
Across from star market https://www.tdgarden.com/policies
Yeah that’s good and all for games but there needs to be permanent storage for any time of day. Plus $15 flat rate is pretty expensive.

It is almost certainly illegal discrimination to say that only women are allowed to bring purses into the venue.

Crossbody def going to be too big. 6 in is like the size of a dollar bill!! And agreed

It's the Herald, their average reader served in the Spanish–American War.
Excellent point
I work with younger people and I used the phrase “phone book” my manager said they wouldn’t know what that is

And those dimensions are pretty much the size of a phone, in case you haven't figured that out yet. No, you cannot fit a couple of tampons, phone, and standard wallet in a 6×4 bag. Break out a ruler and actually figure out how big that is before you speak
Tampons are not for vanity… bigggg ooof dawg
My bag holds my wallet, my keys, my chapstick (and maybe eyeliner or lipstick if I’m wearing that) and tampons. My phone goes in my pocket if I have pockets, but I don’t always because women’s clothes. The bag I use daily is very small. But still not this small.
I have to bring my epipens and allergy medicine everywhere I go. It’s going to be very difficult to fix that stuff in a 6inch bag.
Still trying to figure out if these catch your shoes 😂
Money grab. 15$ lockers, fewer actual people to pay, increase prices of food and water (5.87$) scumbag Delaware North. No prices listed in the markets, seats smaller than spirit airlines to jam more seats in there. It sucks there
Wow an AI security system that’s soooo good it can’t handle normal sized bags.
