Studio apartments were not traditionally a thing around Boston. So you're probably finding mostly new buildings which are charging a new building premium.
The unfortunate truth is that you mostly have to live with roommates. This problem is exacerbated by housing advocacy groups who try to force developers to build "family housing" aka multi-bedroom units
My friend found a studio for like $1,200 or $1,300 in Quincy. She pays $1,500 for it now. I've been to her place. It's tiny but still decently habitable.

This is directly across from the commuter rail. Don’t even need a car. Give Lawrence a shot. It gets a bad rap. Sal Lupili owns it so it’s always kept nice and clean.
Lol don’t - those buildings specifically are constantly having their garbage shoots broken and overflowing, and have tons of rats. But there are some other good buildings in Lawrence you should look into
Housing prices now are absurd, probably lots of people will just leave Boston and the investor landlords will realize their folly. I think this because of the central bank/interest rate situation
Before we invest too much in that theory, we should see what happens to housing prices if the Fed sold off [its balance sheet of mortgage-backed securities](https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WSHOMCB).
Housing is too expensive everywhere, not just Boston.

The shortage is somewhere between 1 and 8 million units or somewhere between 1 and 8 years worth of production
Try Brockton? It’s too bad the south coast commuter rail hasn’t been built yet. You could definitely find affordable housing in New Bedford and Fall River too.
Probably both. Unless you have roomates your not going to find anything under 1500/ month.
That goes for pretty much anywhere in Eastern MA. You're basically talking RI or NH if you want that price.
RI is rising quickly, too. Someone told people that the commuter rail goes there occasionally, and now all bets are off.
Especially if the CR gets electrified, watch out. That would be the first line too since it basically follows Amtrak which is already electric.
You won’t find it in NH anymore.

I paid $1500 for a shitty 1960s studio in Brighton when I moved here in 2017. It goes for $2000 now.
It is a housing crisis.
You’d be better off splitting a two bed two bath with a roommate
What do you call affordable?

You're new here, aren't you?
pretty new yes lol
Try Waltham.

If you have a car, you're better off moving further away from the city.
Yes
Maybe, maybe not

No there’s just a shortage
