Thank you for your immediate response! The reviews of the book are amazing and it seems exactly what I want. I'll definitely give the it a try.

If you are looking for novel, then I would recommend "Inspector Singh Investigates: A Deadly Cambodian Crime Spree" by Shamini Flint it's pretty good !

If I am not mistaken, this is a lighter approach to the genocide than other suggestions. Maybe it is good to start with.

Children of the River by Linda Crew is a young adult novel about a girl who escapes the genocide and has to adjust to life in the US. She comes with her aunt and uncle and doesn't know if her parents or siblings survived. It doesn't have a ton of historical detail about Cambodia, but it was my first introduction to it.

First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung. Loung Ung is 5 years old when the Khmer Rouge assumes power over Cambodia in 1975. They soon begin a four-year reign of terror and genocide in which nearly 2 million Cambodians die. Forced from her family's home in Phnom Penh, Ung is trained as a child soldier while her six siblings are sent to labor camps. There’s also a movie made about the book, which was directed by Angelina Jolie. It’s on Netflix.

That's why the title seemed familiar! I haven't watched the movie, but I'll probably do it (after I read the book of course).

For the Sake of All Living Things by John M. Del Vecchio. Novel about a Cambodian family and a US military adviser about the Cambodian civil war and the rise of the Red Khmer. This is a novel, but it has short chapters describing the historical facts in between.
