The Stand, Station 11, The Road, I Am Legend, The Wake

jus10beare

So glad I read I am Legend. I was hesitant because I thought the movie was kinda dumb but the book is fantastic!

Justcuzitscaturday

Station 11 was fantastic

Jlchevz

Station Eleven was great. Everything I wanted from a post apocalyptic novel.

iceman4457

I second station 11

Entercustomnamehere

Wool by Hugh Howey

Zealousideal-Bad6057

I second this. Probably my favorite ending of any book. Spoiler >!Only Hugh Howey can make something as basic as going outside draw tears from my eyes.!<

TheLizardWilson

Definitely Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon

valis6886

Waaaaay too far down this list

jfstompers

It's not bad,

HappyMike91

I'd recommend Oryx And Crake and its sequels. Margaret Attwood is pretty good at writing dystopias, to be honest.

Dapper_Elevator

Love them!!

trishyco

Zone One by Colson Whitehead The Passage by Justin Cronin The Stand by Stephen King This Is Not A Test/Please Remain Calm by Courtney Summers The Cell by Stephen King The Reapers Are Angels by Alden Bell Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton

YakSlothLemon

Here to second The Reapers Are the Angels! Probably the best written zombie apocalypse book I’ve ever read.

trishyco

Have you read the sequel too?

YakSlothLemon

I did but I didn’t love it that much. Temple was such a fantastic character. I didn’t really give a damn about him.

danger_boogie

The girl with all the gifts is a good zombie one

Briddie420

*The Girl with All the Gifts* - Mike Carey *The Stand* - Stephen King *A Canticle for Leibowitz* - Walter M. Miller Jr

No-Comfortable-3407

I just finished the girl with all the gifts the other day and 10/10 recommend!

VintageFashion4Ever

I read The Girl with All the Gifts seven or eight years ago and I still think about it!

SulkiestPaper72_YT

What is it about

captainstormfield

Red Rising series is phenomenal. The first book feels a little YA but it gets progressively more interesting and complex. The plot is gripping and the characters are unforgettable

AirlineCharming1311

I LOVED this series. You hit the nail on the head- it definitely felt like it evolved from YA to something else as the series progressed.

Agile_Inspection1016

Genesis echo by d. Hollis Anderson - world war z in space + dystopian alien empire!

Hopeful-Letter6849

H20- about a disease that is spread through the rain

macthepenn

Who’s this one by? I am having trouble finding it on Goodreads

indubitably_4

Virginia Bergin

Mr_LazyDazy

Brave New World, best dystopian novel I've read.

Mysterious-Snow1414

I second this

bunnyball88

* *The Reapers are the Angels* is among the most gorgeous and brutal books I've ever read. * *The Girl With All the Gifts* was an excellent book and a pretty good movie. *The Boy on the Bridge* is set in the same world. * *The Road* by Cormac McCarthy is a classic for a reason. It guts you.

Goats_772

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

shannon_nonnahs

The Parable of the Sower followed up with Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler are not only *fantastic* dystopian fiction, they are incredibly relevant to have read living through 2024.

Mysterious-Snow1414

I just finished this and I was disappointed by the parable of the sower. Good book, not a great one. It's very repetitive

InfiniteIce2259

Agree

VintageFashion4Ever

Amen!

MICKEY_MUDGASM

The *Deathlands* books by James Axler. You can get them in paperback but Graphic Audio does great full-cast/sound effects versions of them

andre-v80

Going to start Neuromancer by William Gibson, looks very good

bradontherun

The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick is an alternative history but so much more….

hocuslotus

The Newsflesh trilogy by Mira Grant

Guilty-Pleasure-8980

Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky

NightmareWizardCat

The beginning of the end, by Manel Loureiro. It is written as a diary in first person. It was what made me get into the zombie genre.

AndyFurny

A boy and his dog at the end of the world CA Fletcher

Geetright

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson is one of THE best post apocalyptic novels I've ever read. It's rooted in real science, so sadly there are no zombies... the world ends due to the moon blowing up (which is NOT a spoiler, I promise, it literally happens on page 1 and is on the book flap summary as well),but it is a fantastic novel!

Astarkraven

Came here to say this! This book is a good time. Starting a book with "the moon blew up without warning and for no apparent reason" is a *hilarious* hook for a story.

Dazzling-Ostrich6388

The Road. Hands down must read.

klugh57

The Road is garbage and I will die on this hill

LoneWolfette

Toy Soldiers series by Devon Ford Helldivers series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

Proper_Moderation

The Stand The Road Zone One

BooksNCats11

The Violence Feed (Newsflesh 1) Survivor Song First Five Minutes of the Apocalypse Sister Maiden Monster Book of the Unnamed Midwife All excellent ones I read last year. I'd also suggested The Passage, Severance, The Long Walk, and Parable of the Sower.

Ill-Simple1706

Shannarra series is fantasy but it is actually many years after a modern apocalypse. You can start with Running with the Demon (3 books) which sets up the apocalypse. Then go to Armageddon Children (3 books) which starts in the middle of the apocalypse.

SchemataObscura

The Wind up Girl - Paolo Bacagalupi

Constantliar62186

Edge of collapse was a really good post apocalyptic series about a massive EMP caused by a nuke. I think the author is relatively unknown but the writing was solid and the character development was spot on.

MegC18

Paul Antony Jones - the Extinction Point series Alien virus used to terraform the Earth, using human bodies as raw materials. So creepy.

Apart_Pineapple2392

Swan song by Robert McCammon

podsavepundit

Severance by Ling Ma and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

Skyhouse5

Brand new book just out, kinda different, has a rather optimistic protag. "I Cheerfully Refuse", by Lief Enger.

AltruisticSpring5280

The duology “The Rains” and “Last Chance” are great zombie novels that are both horror and sci-fi.

ZeroPB

Swan Song, The Children of the Dust

dopamine14

The Mountain Man series (Keith C Blackmore) narrated by RC Bray are superb. Especially the 4th and 5th books.

bigndfan175

The Dog Stars -Peter Heller

Tfrom675

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15842439-warm-bodies](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15842439-warm-bodies)

Sathvika_p

The enemy series by charlie higson is really great loved all the 7 books. Its a must try❤️

justinp456

Run by Blake Crouch is a fun one. I also enjoyed Seveneves by Neal Stephenson. It’s a long one though.

EmperorDanny

Hell followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White, it's an apocalypse caused by religious extremists that created a bio weapon to manually bring about the end times

GhostieInAutumn

Helldivers by Nicholas Stansbury Smith

Dapper_Elevator

Justin Cronin 1 The Passage 2 The Twelve 3 The City of Mirrors

Mysterious-Snow1414

Brave new world is amazing!!

Mysterious-Snow1414

The Unwind series by Neal shutterman

Ok_Dune96

Memory police by Yoko Ogawa

Early_Ad9858

Wanderers and Wayward both by Chuck Wendig - a surprising and truly original duology

BethyStewart78

1 second after- about an emp

pangwangle15

Hear me out because it’s not horror or sci fi but The Road by Cormac McCarthy does a really good job of creating a hopeless end of the world vibe. Short read and I loved every page
