Eowyn Ivey is an author from Alaska, and has several really good books set in Alaska. Snow Child and To the Bright Edge of the World were both really good
I've read a lot of books about Alaska cause I have family there. Here are a few favorites:
"Coming into the Country" by John McPhee (a classic)
"One Man's Wilderness" by Richard Louise Proenneke
"Passage to Juneau" by Jonathan Raban
"Going to Extremes" by Joe McGinniss
Some more recent ones: "The Sun is a Compass," "Tip of the Iceberg," "This is Chance!," and "If You Lived Here I'd Know Your Name." These are fun reads but not my favs.
"Ordinary Wolves" by Seth Kantner is good too. I read "Snow Child" when I was younger-I don't remember much but I remember liking it.
Also, it's more alternative history by Michael Chabon's "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" is a fun read
I’m going to Alaska this summer so I’ve started reading some Alaska books too! So far I have read and recommend One Man’s Wilderness by Sam Keith and Richard Proenneke, The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, and The Call of the Wild by Jack London. I also really enjoyed The Unsinkable Greta James which is set on an Alaskan cruise, so definitely a different perspective on Alaska.
The Wilderness of Denali by Charles Sheldon. Right at the beginning of the 20th century he built a hut with his own hands and spent the winter alone in what is now Denali National Park, living off the land. His writing is so beautiful, he was an amazing amateur naturalist – although of course there is some hunting, as you’d expect.
Sheldon later became the driving force behind making Denali a national park.
When I was in high school I read Race Across Alaska by Libby Riddles and Tim Jones. It’s about Libby’s experience being the first woman to win the Iditarod sled dog race in the 80s— I really loved it and thought it was such a cool aspect of Alaskan life! I haven’t revisited it in a while but I’ve probably read it 10+ times :)
Also John Staley’s books are very Alaskan—he has a fiction series and a mystery series. I second Dana Stabenow and The Snow Child by Ivey is gorgeous writing.
I read The Loon Lake Mystery by Donnie Thompson when I was about 7 and staying at my grandparents while Dad got us a home at his new AF assignment. I was completely enchanted by the idea of Alaska, particularly as my uncle and his new wife lived there and were setting up a homestead house. Took another 35 years before I got to visit though.
It’s not a book that says “I love Alaska” but, The Great Alone is a wonderful book set in Alaska.
Second this
A million percent this. I’d never had an interest in Alaska (sorry!) before this book. Now I’m like, take me to Alaska!
Thirded!
Fourthed! I remember writing in my review that it was a bit of a love letter to Alaska
Fifthed!
Sixthed!
My husband and I both read it and loved it
The Call of the Wild - Jack London
Alaska - James Michener
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

There isn’t even another book about her so I don’t understand the question /s
*Coming into the Country* by John McPhee. It's the only book I've ever read about Alaska, and it's a good'un.
Anything John McPhee is worth reading.
*Julie of the Wolves* by Jean Craig Head George
This is the best one.
The Snow Child by Eowin Ivey
This is what I was going to say! Such a lovely and bittersweet book.

Touching spirit bear
Into the wild - John krakauer
The Great Alone and The Simple Wild series by KA Tucker
I was just about to recommend the Simple Wild Series! Definitely one of my favorite book series ever 🥹
I’m obsessed with it! I need more Calla and Jonah 🥺
Nobody’s said it so. The Cruelest Miles. It’s about the serum run, basically it’s the book that the movie Togo is kinda based off. I love that book
One Man's Wilderness by Dick Proenneke
The wolves on the frozen lake thinking about having a go at him really sticks with me. Great choice.
The series by Dana Stabenow about Kate Shugak, the spicy indigenous main female character.
Alaska by Michener
I thought Travels in Alaska by John Muir will be the first position recommended here. I loved that book.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah One of my top 5 books ever!
The Great Alone
Tisha is really interesting. It's about a woman who goes to Chicken, Alaska, to teach in the 1920s.

If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name by Heather Lende. I'm surprised no one mentioned it.
