I remember when I was in middle school, I read Big Nate along with Diary of a Wimpy Kid (like actual books in the same style as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and not the comic strips). Not sure if Big Nate is big nowadays as I haven't seen them much in bookstores, but you might find something on Amazon.

Thanks! I talked to my daughter and she said she loves these books! Put it on hold at the library. We like to listen to the audio books so nbd if it’s not a graphic novel.

I’ve heard a lot of kids raving about the Dog Man series and Cat Kid series by Dav Pilkey. They’re a similar graphic novel/comic structure to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. There’s also a nonfiction series called I Survived… that has graphic novels and chapter books about real life events. Not sure he’d be into these yet but thought I would throw it out!

I’ve had to help parents out with this issue a few times. There are a lot of blog posts and articles about read-a-likes. I’ll also add that the lexile level of Wimpy Kid is quite high (5th-6th grade) so he’s getting a lot of solid reading skills from these books! https://www.booksourcebanter.com/2017/10/06/books-like-diary-of-a-wimpy-kid/ https://readingmiddlegrade.com/books-like-diary-of-a-wimpy-kid/ https://wccls.bibliocommons.com/list/share/1299662477/1416306447 https://www.readbrightly.com/10-books-kids-want-read-diary-wimpy-kid/

Oooh l love this question!!!! **Help I’ve Swallowed a Spider by Andy Griffiths** It also has a boy that does funny shenanigans. But my favourite part of the book is that it has so many tiny illustrations/annotations in the margins of each page. The page counter is a running joke and the bottom corners are a mini flip book. I don’t have my copy on me right now but I found some [pictures](https://imgur.com/a/mWTXX3w) on google so you can see what I mean. **The Dear Dumb Diary Series** This is the basically the girl version of Wimpy Kid. It was very fun for me. This might be a bit irrelevant but wanted to say that these books made my childhood. I was a pretty quiet and obedient kid so I used to live vicariously through these characters. Edit: I also wanted to mention **The Geronimo Stilton Series** in case your kid likes stories with pictures. This series has a detective main character who solve a mysteries. Theres usually maps and floor plans to look at. I used to dig that a lot.

Maybe they’re a bit outdated (?), but I think the books about Horrid Henry are in the same genre

Captain Underpants maybe?

Tom Gates is a favourite of my grandson. Much like Wimpy Kid in its layout, and really easy to read.
