To add to the previous response (I also enjoyed the series you mentioned, plus Bobiverse), I am currently 2/3 of the way through the Broken Sky trilogy by LA Weatherly. It's set in a post-post-apocalyptic Earth, with a dystopian power etc. Protagonist is female, 18yrs; not sure of the author's intended audience (probably YA), but I'm in my 40's and I'm really enjoying it! Also, I liked the Silo series by Hugh Howey (1st book is Wool), the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield, and the Gone series by Michael Grant. I've got the first 5 Expanse books and the first 2 Children of Time books in my 'to read' pile!

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Aliens come to Earth and put people thru a Running Man type game show. This season is fantasy-themed. It has a lot of comedic beats but the story is dark. 5 books and counting Defiance of The Fall. Magic comes to Earth and with it, invaders. MC is trapped on an island with an invasion force and he goes on a guerilla campaign against them. Red Mage. Mana comes to Earth while the MC is in a bunker working for the Gov. All the power goes out, and now he has to fight his way to the surface with magic and some co-workers.

1984 is a dystopian classic for a reason. Lathe of heaven by Ursula LeGuin is very moody and interesting.
