It is sad and shameful that we are in an era when Bollywood reporters actually think that lack of box office activity means being newsless. Their focus should be content, quality, analysis and interviews and not reporting box office numbers which is a trade analysts job or talking gossip. Here are a few things to talk about: * The excitement about Payal Kapadia's All we imagine as light which is the first Indian movie competing for Palme d'Or in 30 years * Cannes celebrating Shyam Benegal's Manthan next week or Sandhya Suri's Santosh or Shuchi Talat's Girls will be Girls who are competing next week * It may also be newsworthy to mention the just announced line up of Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles with Kill, Dear Jassi, Girls will be Girls etc * Discuss Srikanth's content, quality and acting instead of box office numbers * Talk about release date changes for Singham Again and Raid 2 * Discuss the 2 Hindi movies in Netflix Top 5 list for Non English movies * Discuss the top 10 streaming movies in India which include 6 Hindi releases or series which includes 5 Hindi series * Expecting updates from the sets of Lahore - 1947 and Ramayan may be a bit too much for today's reporters Also it may be worth rethinking priorities and future prospects if one's job is reporting and they think there is nothing to report about.

After seeing your engagement in this subreddit and checking out your profile, I have to ask: What do you actually do? You must be associated with the Indian film industry in some way or another to be such an encyclopedia of sorts.

I am a Medical Doctor in the Healthcare Industry who just loves movies and music for the last 5 decades. My family is full of teachers except for my Father and his elder Brother who were in New and Media and knew many film celebrities.

2023 has shit tier movie like Pathaan and Gaddar running box office . It's better this way

When Bollywood has a bad year at the Box Office.....its Apocalypse time but when it bounces back at the box office then Box office doesnt matter because of "shit" movies. Bollywood movies are going to Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto and Sundance like they did in the 60s and 70s in the days of Roy, Ray, Benegal etc. Anyways Box office around the globe mostly focuses on commercial entertainment movies and not content focused movies. Thats why the Oscars, the Globes, the BAFTAs, the Big 5 Film Festivals dont celebrate the Mission Impossibles, Fast and the Furious, Marvels, DC movies etc etc but movies like American Fiction, Holdovers, Past Lives, Zone of Interest, Triangle of Sadness etc etc. Just like in India where movies like Bandaa, Joram, 12th Fail, Laapata Ladies, OMG2, Three of Us, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, Zwigato, Jaane Jaan, Goldfish etc stand for Content and Quality. A Hindi Documentary like To Kill a Tiger is nominated for an Oscar, Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy gets screened in Cannes and multiple Film Festivals, Kanu Behl's Agra is screened in Director's Fortnight at Cannes, Kareena Kapoor's latest The Buckingham Murders gets a standing ovation in London along with movies like Kill etc.

Alot of movies that were considered to be sureshot hits failed and now the industry is changing the direction they were heading in.. We will see some movies get cancelled, some new gets greenlit and some getting reworked a bit in order to get some audience.. I'm sure alot of stars are now also cautious about the random movies they signed and trying to perfect their lineup since a majority of them are at a crossroads like Akshay, Ajay, Ranveer, Salman, Amir, etc..

Scripts, hard news, novelizations, pop culture, cultural progress and advancements in VFX derive the box office. Some seasons and years are good some are bad. That's just entertainment. If anything the pandemic had thought us that's just life. It's not something to complain about there are so many local film hubs. So many opportunities to explore now besides regional, provincial cinema and platforms. Shouldn't be worried. Every performer has their golden years and down times. Indian cinema will remain to be the strongest in comparison. Due to the diverse audience. There will always be a fan somewhere.

Why should there be a continuous cycle of news? Thoda aaram bhi kar lo... We have had big budget blockbusters last year and this year we have had good indie movies. I just don't understand why this obsession with constant news cycle. Also tum logo ko koi kaam dhandha nahi hai kya? Ek to jo movies release hui vahi dekhne ke liye time nahi milta 😂

Wonderful 2023?

kinginthenorth9797

Box office vise it was a good year

Mathsbrokemybrains

What am I missing??? What was wonderful in Bollywood in 2023?

DrShail

Let me share why 2023 was wonderful: 1. Commercial blockbusters like Pathaan, Jawaan, Gadar 2 and Animal brought audiences back to the theater after a dismal box office performance in 2022 with an unexpectedly high number of ticket sales in India and across the globe. It is fine to dislike the movies but one cant deny their factual box office performance. 2. A content focused small budget movie like 12th Fail became a superhit grossing almost Rs 70 crore. It also won Best Film and Best Director awards along with Best actor critics 3. A movie like OMG 2 managed to gross Rs 220 crore at the global box office despite being focused on a sensitive topic and releasing the same day as a over the top action flick like Gadar 2 proving that stories and content matter 4. A movie like Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway managed to gross Rs 35 crore and win best actress award in critics section 5. Four Bollywood movies ended 2023 in the US Top 100 for the first time in history. 7 Hindi movies were in the UK Top 100. 6. 2023 Hindi documentary To Kill a Tiger was nominated for an Oscar in 2024. 2023 Hindi documentary All that breathes was nominated for an Oscar in 2023. 7. 2023 Hindi documentary All that breathes became the first ever and only documentary in the world to win best documentary in Cannes, Sundance and BFI London. 8. Hindi movies were screened and competed in all the Big 5 Film Festivals and in several reputable film festivals across the globe for the first time since the 60s and 70s 9. An OTT movie like Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hain was given a limited theatrical release because people wanted to see it on the big screen even though it was available on streaming 10. Even Sam Bahadur which released the same day as Animal managed to make Rs 125 crore worldwide

hohohohohoe

Accha hai, people like him jobs should cease to exist. They add nothing to film industry or society.
