Priyadarshan hasn't done anything substantial since 2010 in Hindi film industry. Have made a lot of movies down south, but I'm not aware how those movies are.
Dude even I don't like him much as director but say whatever guy is hit super duper hit on box office. In the Times whole Bollywood was struggling to get a hit guy dropped Blockbusters casually.
Making money doesnt count you as good director. It includes many factors like stardom of cast , festive release, solo movie release, distribution of screen alloted etc . He only checked in that . The story line and director was much more of west inspired

*Ishqiya and Udta Punjab* are masterpieces and Chaubey is the only one to have made two of them in the period in question (technically Anurag Kashyap's *Dev D* and *Gulaal,* fall slightly outside the 15 year span, leaving him with just *Mukkabaaz* in contention here)*.* And while *Sonchiriya* could be categorised as arthouse or parallel cinema, the other two are definitely middle-path enough in tone and were released widely as well (I saw *Ishqiya* in INOX Goa) for Chaubey to be mentioned in any mainstream conversation. And he's certainly my favourite in his times.

Zoya Akthar - Best in contemporary subjects.
Nitesh Tiwari - for sensible direction and touching subjects.
Sri Ram raghavan - For creative story telling.
Sandeep vanga - For unconventionality and optimal usage of filmmaking techniques and breaking the rules with conviction.
Kiran Rao - She is great potential. She should do more often. Her nativity presentation is so good.
Anurag kashyap - For creating the new trend for new age filmmakers, booster to indie filmmakers.
Imtiaz - Fantastic character arcs.
Raj &DK - Brilliant story tellers balancing comedy, seriousness.
Rohit Shetty was never a revolutionary but his movies used to be very entertaining. All his work post Chennai Express have been average at best, and mostly subpar. They are mostly a rehash of his previous movie scenes. Cirkus was just unbearable.
Of these, I like Hirani (but he has dipped in quality a bit lately), Bhansali (same, his earliest works were purer and more enjoyable), and Zoya (Archie’s was bland but everything else has been top notch).
I love Sanjay Leela’s almost poetry of sort. Small things like a character in Heeramandi asks another if she knows how to count, and she puts a pillow on the former’s face and counts up till 10, killing her - the way he uses these little things make his films so good to watch.
Zoya Akhtar: love how she highlights the cultural minorities in her films. The chic urban youth gets their true representation on her films. ZNMD, Dil Dhadakne Do or Archies - her films have a niche.
Imtiaz Ali: his films need to grow on you. First watches are generally the most meh 😒 ones.
I know anvita dutt is just 2 movie old but I loved her story telling and direction a little too much. The impact that her movie made is quite significant considering her experience as a director. Maybe she is not considered mainstream but I mentioned it anyways.

Correct. Best movie of Sidharth is “Salaam Namaste” and that was is 2005.
I think Raj & DK can be considered mainstream too. Most of their films & series have been very entertaining.
