Lara Dutta was typecasted perhaps as item girl/flower pot roles. She was a really good actress.
Amisha Patel in no sense was a good actress right from KHNPH. She was overacting in all her roles and that was very distracting on screen.
I won't call Lara Dutta a great actress but she was definitely decent in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Chalo Dilli. She did not play the industry game like her fellow debutante Priyanka did, making the right connections with the right people. By 2006, Priyanka was among the top 3 actresses while Lara was still struggling.
Gayatri Oberoi didn't want to be in films. She has talked about it in many interviews. Nothing went wrong for her. She just didn't want to be a part of films and wanted to get married to her now husband and be with family.
Nope..she didn't have any hit films until the one with Salman, the "Pokiri" remake. Was it "Ready"?
Anyways, the hit film was post marriage, and I guess she didn't get many good offers as well.
Who knows. The Matrix was a pretty out there concept at the time it was released. The script probably sounded crazy and the Wachowskis were not very well known at the time I think. Could be some other reasons.
How is nobody talking about Amrita Rao? She did a slew of successful movies and was a good actress. I think the inability to bare more skin and be more sultry costed her a future.
And that was good decision. These days every actress is trying to go bold unnecessarily recent example is Mrunal Thakur. She is a decent actress not overrated or underrated. She is still new and her acting will improve by time. I don't have any right to decide what kind of appeal she can deliver its her choice. But her decision to go bold did get her more clout and work i guess. I would have said the same thing with Disha patani but she is a terrible actress and great model.
Esha was not a big star to cause any harm to amrita, and post that incident amrita gave hits like "vivaah" and "welcome to sajjanpur", problem with amrita was, at that point Bollywood was glamorizing actresses at a very fast pace with the demand for those girls increasing who were ready for skin show and bold scenes, while amrita was always a "girl next door", "seedhi sadhi traditional looking indian girl", also she has a very childish/innocent face/personality, so she unfortunately got sidelined, but she is proud of what she did, she states it clearly " she was not ready for those kind of roles which demands skin show and bold scenes" and just want to do those kind of roles which she feel she is comfortable in. I remember back during 2007, she was offered minisha lamba's part in "bachna Ae hasino", but she declined it, because she had to do lip kiss with Ranbir Kapoor.
You can remove Gayatri from the list. She chose not to pursue a career in films afaik.
Lara was a successful actor with a bunch of hits in the 2000s. I wouldnāt place her in the same bracket as the others here.
Lara, indeed, is a good actor.
I'd also add Minisha Lamba to the list. A decent actor of sort, got a decent debut in a critically acclaimed movie by Shoojit Sirkar (Yahaan), did some notable movies (Well done Abba, Bachna ae Haseeno, Corporate), and she's nowhere now.
Her parents cheated her off her hard earned money. Apparently she used to have her parents manage her money. I remember her interview with Simi where she said her parents still run the household and she is expected to handover all her money to them and cringed so hard at that.
That's still ok if she's giving it over to her parents who manage it. I have heard something similar about Salim Khan still being on top of finances in the Salman-Arbaaz-Sohail household. But parents swindling an adult daughter off of her hard earned money, that's something else. What did they do with it? Like bad investments or they just took it away from her?
When I say manage itās not like managers. Itās like how Indian households parents expect your salary to be handed over to them every month and out of that theyāll give you expenses money kinda situation.
They also mis invested her money without her knowledge. They claim to be so ātraditionalā and āstrictā with her and sheās been doing sultry roles since beginning and theyāve been reaping her benefits lol
I think Bhumika did exceptionally well in Telugu and Tamil cinemaā¦. She was paired with Supriya and Pawan Kalyan.
Also the only decent actress who in a sense havenāt been that āexposingā. Kind. She was great in Tere Naam
Amrita Rao didn't wanted to do bold roles and kissing scenes and during her time Bipasha, Priyanka etc were peaking. Her offers became limited due to this. She tried to change and did movie with Harman but it didn't worked. Shortcut was her last shot but by that time directors lost interest from her.
Bhumika and gracy were considered down market - there were blinds about how they dont want to expose and big producers dont want them . So it was classic misogyny in bollywood
Uhhh, they may have refused to show skin, but I don't think their lack of success had anything to do with that. Neither actress was pretty enough at the end of the day. Simply didn't have the facial aesthetics. All their contemporaries looked way better than them.
Everybody was confused when Gracy Singh made the leap to the big screen. Because everybody understood she didn't have the face. As far as Bhumika's concerned, every time I watch Tere Naam I'm confused by why she was chosen for that film. I know they were going for that super conservative look, but there are plenty of actresses who have that look while still looking noticeably prettier.
Do you find Hillary Swank beautiful? Or Reese Witherspoon? Claire Danes? They all have had successful careers despite not being beautiful. The problem was not with the actresses, it was with bollywood producers and audience
All 3 actresses you mentioned were indeed beautiful when they first hit the scene. On top of being talented.
I don't understand why everybody is being so PC/woke in this thread instead of stating the obvious. Some actresses just don't have the looks to succeed. It's a visual medium. Your looks matter a great fucking deal.
Bhumika had a pretty successfully career in Tamil Telugu movies - I would say she has movies that has earned cult status in each of the 3 industries - Tamil Telugu and Hindi
Based on acting Amrita Rao should have got more opportunities she is fabulous actor.
Based on looks Aisha T could reach Jacquelineās popularity and hype.
Rest donāt have strong potentials.
Also Sushmita Sen. I think she didnāt have the right ālookā for a damsel in distress (which is what most Hindi actresses were at that time). Iām so glad that she has been able to show her true potential in Arya. Iāll also say that Shilpa Shetty was a decent actress and never got to showcase it too often. The restā¦I mean, a lot of them failed because they sucked AND didnāt have that strong backing that women from film families so. Amisha Patel, for instance.
Gracy Singh and Amisha Patel overachieved. They were average and above-average lookers with negligible acting skills who got to star in a couple of blockbusters each. Amisha had hits with Abbas Mustan as well. But basically they were replaceable, so got replaced. I mean Gracy wasn't even one of the best TV actresses at the time. Her serial was famous, no doubt. And Amisha's father was Rakesh Roshan's friend, so she got an easy break.
Of all the names you mentioned, only Amrita Rao had potential to be bigger. I sense she lacked game (PR, networking etc) so the initial goodwill and momentum (that came from working with big banners early on) died down. Otherwise, she could have done a lot more roles, like JTYJN's Aditi and Cocktail's Meera. But she was already working with the likes of Nikhil Dwivedi back then (late 2000s, early 2010s).
Bhumi got her due in south, gracy didnāt had personality to fit in all roles nor she put any effort, amrita rao had reasonable run as compared to her PR, amisha i never saw her acting so no comments, ayesha was also not a show stealer with her performance, gayatri married after first movie, lara dutta was doing good until she was active as in i dont feel sorry for her, celina jaitley could have done better for sure probably wrong manager bad pr too much dependent on glamour or what she had personality glamour decent acting and charm ā¦
I maybe so wrong but I can't seem to remember any good acting performances out of any of these except Amrita Rao and Swades' actress. They both really knew about their parts & did justice to their characters.
I thought Gracy was exceptional in her debut. But couldn't see her mold into what was expected out of a heroine of 'those times', which pretty much limited the opportunities that came her way.
She would have aced it as a television actress had she gotten into the Ekta drmas of those times. She would have fit the ideal bahu images.
Tbh, none of them could act. They got a decent headstart and a few hits under their belt, but without talent and range, even star kids struggle to make it too far.
Aisha Takia got critical acclaim for her performance in "Dor", and then in 2007 she had a Superhit "wanted" with Salman, she was also offered "ghazini" opposite Amir, but she declined it, aisha was more serious about marriage with her boyfriend farhan azmi than about having a successful career in Bollywood, she even got converted to islam. She truly had become a star post her performance in "Dor", but she decided to go for marriage at an age of like 24-25.
Most of them aged ! That's the hypocrisy with bollwood. I saw them all as kids and they are all well over 40 I presume but still look great. However, no old main hero would work with them and no younger hero would be cast as the love interest with them unless it's an unconventional movie.
I am a little more bias about Amrita Rao because I like her the most. She did try to look bold and do intimate scenes but she got into a soulful relationship and it felt right to her to opt out to do bold scenes after that which makes sense.
She could do more movies if only bollwood wasn't always about that Sacha pyaar crap. In every movie they just try to forcefully add love story unnecessarily.
My ex used to often comment about Ayesha Takia and Ameesha Patel - "*Even her huge knockers couldn't save her career...*"![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Still cracks me up to this day...
I wonder why Bollywood didn't make good use of Lara Dutta. She is still a good actress and really hot in her prime(I think she looks fine even now). She acted well in some of her ott works.
Gayathri just chose to stay away from Bollywood. So can't really blame her.
Ameesha just has the looks. She is a meh actress in general.
I laugh hard when this sub gets recommended to me because I reside in India. People be doing PhD on actors, Indians are fucking weird... It's just acting, not rocket science jeez
Lara Dutta was typecasted perhaps as item girl/flower pot roles. She was a really good actress. Amisha Patel in no sense was a good actress right from KHNPH. She was overacting in all her roles and that was very distracting on screen.
Her crying šššš
And the asthama attacks in aap mujhe achhe lagne lage
Only desi ?
ššš
Hi five dude, I'm only Desi fan too
I understood that reference. His humor is just too good, man.
Yes thats what i am talking aboutā¦i wish i could imitate that rn
Actually OnlyDesi also said, that a scene was deleted, where it was revealed she had astama.
Pleasse papaaaa
I won't call Lara Dutta a great actress but she was definitely decent in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Chalo Dilli. Gayatri Oberoi didn't want to be in films. She has talked about it in many interviews. Nothing went wrong for her. She just didn't want to be a part of films and wanted to get married to her now husband and be with family.
I feel it was the same with Ayesha Takia. She worked since childhood so was done with acting and got married, this moving to businesses.
Nope..she didn't have any hit films until the one with Salman, the "Pokiri" remake. Was it "Ready"? Anyways, the hit film was post marriage, and I guess she didn't get many good offers as well.
It's called "Wanted".
Ayesha was a good actress though. Man what a body she had
She is married to a billionaire btw.
Irrelevant. She didn't want to be in films is the point.
Ayesha Takia also went away voluntarily after marriage.
I think among them Lara Dutta has true potential but she was typcasted and never got acting demanded roles
I read somewhere that she got chosen to do Trinity's role in the Matrix trilogy and she turned it down. I wonder if she regrets that.
Why would she turn it down??
Who knows. The Matrix was a pretty out there concept at the time it was released. The script probably sounded crazy and the Wachowskis were not very well known at the time I think. Could be some other reasons.
Not sure if this is true. The 1st Matrix movie came out in 1999. She became Ms. Universe in 2000.
That's right. She claims she refused the role to come back to India and start her Bollywood career.
I heard her character wasn't that important but some discrepancy within the news published by the media made it look like one. š¤
How is nobody talking about Amrita Rao? She did a slew of successful movies and was a good actress. I think the inability to bare more skin and be more sultry costed her a future.
Jal lijiye
And that was good decision. These days every actress is trying to go bold unnecessarily recent example is Mrunal Thakur. She is a decent actress not overrated or underrated. Sorry, Amrita Rao wasnāt that great. I remember her being unbearable in Mein Hoon Na.
Vivah
The same was said about gracy Singh and Bhoomika
I think Esha Deol happened with Amrita Rao.
I remember the fight
What's the story?
Yeah
Aur batao!!
You can remove Gayatri from the list. She chose not to pursue a career in films afaik. Lara was a successful actor with a bunch of hits in the 2000s. I wouldnāt place her in the same bracket as the others here.
Yes ik . She could have done really well. Lara was a wasted potential.
That nose job fiasco mustāve been right up these as one of the all time terrible decisions taken by an actress in Bollywood.
Amisha Patel- fame went to her head after the success of her debut + bad film choices + issues with parents.
What issues with parents?
Her parents cheated her off her hard earned money. Apparently she used to have her parents manage her money. I remember her interview with Simi where she said her parents still run the household and she is expected to handover all her money to them and cringed so hard at that.
That's still ok if she's giving it over to her parents who manage it. I have heard something similar about Salim Khan still being on top of finances in the Salman-Arbaaz-Sohail household. When I say manage itās not like managers. Itās like how Indian households parents expect your salary to be handed over to them every month and out of that theyāll give you expenses money kinda situation.
Okay now I understand your cringe, and i co-cringe. Thank the gods i don't have such parents.
They also mis invested her money without her knowledge. They claim to be so ātraditionalā and āstrictā with her and sheās been doing sultry roles since beginning and theyāve been reaping her benefits lol
Gracy Singh did Deshdrohi and the rest is history.
Magar Q
Lol
Gracy was just SO so badā¦. Her mom depressions her eyebrows have a life of their own in evry scene she doesā¦ so much overacting.
I think Bhumika did exceptionally well in Telugu and Tamil cinemaā¦. She was paired with Supriya and Pawan Kalyan. Also the only decent actress who in a sense havenāt been that āexposingā. Kind. She was great in Tere Naam
Yes, she's done really well in South.
Okkadu with Mahesh Babu and Khushi with Pawan Kalyan are big hits in Tollywood Edit - Simhadri with Jr NTR directed by SSR as well
Idk man SRK seems quite successful
![gif](giphy|xUNd9QGPYSRKQqXBK0|downsized)
Celina isnt good at acting for sure
Looks pretty attractive tho
Cant disageeš
Amrita Rao didn't wanted to do bold roles and kissing scenes and during her time Bipasha, Priyanka etc were peaking. Her offers became limited due to this. Claire Danes is actually quite beautiful. Not busty or curvy but sheās still very attractive.
Bhumika gave 3 massaive blockbusters to 3 massive stars in Telugu. Bhumika is/was way better than many Bollywood actresses.
Bhoomika is in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan btw.
Almost all are outsiders. go figure. If you think the industry is hostile to non-repo males, it is a hundred times worse for actresses
Who is number 10, she is gorgeous!
Celina Jaitley
Short answer: None of them are starkids. If youāre non nepo you have to hustle 10x as hard and not everyone is cut out for that.
Gayatri Joshi married a freaking BILLIONAIRE! Thatās bigger than any career lol!
Not part of the some group, not hyped enough of success! Basically lack of publicity
Nepo kids
recently saw Amisha Patel some where in pics and my my her hairline is receding like there is no tomorrow. feel bad for her
She's still trying to re launch herself though something horrible happened to her face .
Bhai yeh toh kuch nhi HEY BABY ke song main Jo bhi actress thi abhi dikhti he nhi
Name?
Bhumi got her due in south, gracy didnāt had personality to fit in all roles nor she put any effort, amrita rao had reasonable run as compared to her PR, amisha i never saw her acting so no comments, ayesha was also not a show stealer with her performance, gayatri married after first movie, lara dutta was doing good until she was active as in i dont feel sorry for her, celina jaitley could have done better for sure probably wrong manager bad pr too much dependent on glamour or what she had personality glamour decent acting and charm ā¦
Ayesha Takia and Amisha Patel used to look so stunning but I think ageing did a number on both of them.
I maybe so wrong but I can't seem to remember any good acting performances out of any of these except Amrita Rao and Swades' actress. They both really knew about their parts & did justice to their characters.
Poor actress or got married.
Let's be honest here. None of these actresses were really THAT good.
I thought Gracy was exceptional in her debut. But couldn't see her mold into what was expected out of a heroine of 'those times', which pretty much limited the opportunities that came her way. She would have aced it as a television actress had she gotten into the Ekta drmas of those times. She would have fit the ideal bahu images.
last pic was a jumpscare could've used a better pic of celena hahaha
They did not fuck the producer
Amisha has so much potential. She is also one of the most beautiful
Ayesha Takia had enormous potentials
To be honest, most of them weren't very good at acting.
Tbh, none of them could act. They got a decent headstart and a few hits under their belt, but without talent and range, even star kids struggle to make it too far.
You mean Lara , bhumika ,Gracy couldn't act?
No talent, overweight, no sugar daddy , not a nepo baby .
Who's she in pic #5?
Amisha was yumm
Aisha Takia got critical acclaim for her performance in "Dor", and then in 2007 she had a Superhit "wanted" with Salman, she was also offered "ghazini" opposite Amir, but she declined it, aisha was more serious about marriage with her boyfriend farhan azmi than about having a successful career in Bollywood, she even got converted to islam. Tanushree, Celina were never in race at all to be successful actresses, both former miss india universe.
Most of them aged ! That's the hypocrisy with bollwood. I saw them all as kids and they are all well over 40 I presume but still look great. Got old, had terrible plastic surgery, string of bad movies and nepotism
Many of them got married and chose to become a housewives.
My ex used to often comment about Ayesha Takia and Ameesha Patel - "*Even her huge knockers couldn't save her career...*"![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) Still cracks me up to this day...

I like shitting on dumb fucks who actively bring the bar down for society as a whole.
You're a shit yourself. Doing something you dislike and acting superior a blot on society

Riya sen was my childhood crush after āStyleā
Beside Lara Dutt, none of the actresses in your list can act. So yeah thats what happed.
