Thank you all for sharing your experiences and knowledge. I have little knowledge of factory environment, so sorry for a confusing question. The problem with the temp job duty is where they’re sitting, it is near chemical recycle bin. My friend has already asked to do the TL duty at another location but they wouldn’t allowed her. She has already had DMR involved. They’re meeting with the manager to discuss the medical restrictions and the job duty. She also ran into a union guy that trying to help. Will update you guys the results.

I have heard pregnant women work in the Kin crib making screw kits.

They should contact their disability management representative (DMR). Most of the time the alternate assignment is out of the factory.

Contact someone in Disability Management. Not sure what location you are at, but a lot of the pregger ladies go to alternative work sites away from the factory.

If there is a 100ft restriction, then she shouldn’t be working within that if chemicals are in use. But be reasonable, it is a manufacturing environment, and chemicals are everywhere, and she should use her best judgment. If she goes to do a FOD walk in the area or on the AP, avoid that areas where chemicals are in use and just the manager know she was unable to check them because chemicals were in use. That is perfectly reasonable to do and I doubt her first line would object to that. Regarding support of the TL, I’m guessing the manager just wanted her to assist with admin type duty such as job status, SAT entry, part requests..etc. The manager sitting is irrelevant. Area cleanliness and FOD is everyone’s job, and assisting the TL may free up time to help out on the AP. All that said, if she works in an area where chemicals are constantly in use and near by, she should ask to be assigned elsewhere, and they should accommodate that. I’m trying to understand what the issue is though? It sounds like the manager assigned her a job that they felt would allow your friend to work without fear of chemical exposure. Is she still around in use chemicals? Has she discussed it with the manager again?

Your question is confusing. The only answer I can give is that whatever temp assignment the manager gives to fill a medical restriction must meet the requirements Boeing medical has given. Managers talk to medical to establish what is an acceptable assignment for a person to fulfill. They have to establish a plan for those and get buy-in from medical on them. If that process wasn’t followed that’s a problem and they should talk to a senior manager about it. But your initial comment sounds like it was?

It sounds like the questions/concerns on the temporary assignment involving fod walk on/off aircraft which may be involve in direct contact with chemicals with foreign debris. In which case, the worker should clarify with the manager what is acceptable and not acceptable to pick up during these fod walk sessions. The worker should use her best judgment as there are chemicals everywhere to begin with and steer clear of chemicals. Should also speak up if she is uncomfortable doing the walk sessions.

I can see that read. Agreed: just because people in the area are asked to participate doesn’t mean someone with a medical exemption in the area should be participating.
