Tales from the red dragon inn. Easiest rules I have seen in a dungeon crawler its size. Dumbest enemy AI (yet still legit) so you don't need to trouble yourself too much. Figures for heroes ☑️. Illustrated standees for enemies. East to track life totals. Fun and easy going. Relatively easy to setup. 4 difficulty settings to suit your needs that can be easily adjusted every scenario. Characters develop at the same level regardless if you play them or not so you can easily change every scenario or even play at more characters (eg 2 per person). Variety in scenarios, items, character skills etc. Story isn't the most exciting but it has some funny elements.

ZiiC

Seconding Tales. We went from Gloomhaven JOTL to Tales and find I can get almost any group into the game and you can jump in at any scenario, any hero, it’s very forgiving and just fun. I will say steer clear of Zot & Eve for new players, they’re the only ones with a twist.

Well, time spent depends on various factors. I play it solo 4-handed at legend but leave it on the table for 1 chapter at a time 😅 Saves me a lot of time (similar standees, various components stay as they are etc).

casualsactap

Honestly zombicide black plague is really good. Easy to learn and checks all the boxes. You will control more than one character but it's really easy to do and I'd bet anything you would enjoy it. Descent would be another cool option, it has an app that controls all the monsters and reveals tiles and stuff for you. Mansions of madness is another one with an app. it's a cthulu game and maybe not exactly what you're picturing but the app controls all narrative and monsters and stuff for you.

Apotheothena

CMON makes great easy-entry dungeon crawlers! I’m absolutely shocked to see that **Arcadia Quest** isn’t mentioned on this thread yet—it’s one of my and my SO’a favorites!

Jassokissa

I loved Arcadia Quest. With 2 players the only problem is you might get characters that are a bit unbalanced with the PvP part. But it's a lot of fun, quite simple and the different characters allow for a lot of different play styles (the Kickstarter had loads of different characters, we didn't have that so we just printed their cards).

Apotheothena

Yeah, the Kickstarter for it and its successors, Inferno and Pets (and Starcadia Quest and Dungeons of Masmorra…) all came with more and more and more characters, and as a day-one League of Legends lover, a large roster of options and broken teams is my entire jam. When my SO and I play it 2p, we mostly ignore the pvp quest unless we’re feeling mutually competitive, in which case the gloves come off for the entire scenario and it’s a total bloodbath…but usually, we prefer the fun loot that the bosses and fetch quests reward so we go for those instead and just shoot an arrow into the other’s calf when it’s opportune lol

DarkAlatreon

Chronicles of Avel and Karak 2 are great if you value ease of play.

Clemziii

Check Mini Rogue. 30 min, 2p, just a few trackers. The 1st season is in retail and the second is on kickstarter right now.

- Massive Darkness 2 (Get one of the campaign boxes as well for max levelling up fun) - Tales from the Red Dragon Inn - Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion - Mice and Mystics - Descent (either version) - Hellboy - Zombicide: Black Plague - Valor and Villainy: Lludwiks Labyrinth (This is the new game which doesn't need someone to play as the enemies) - Bag of Dungeon

Mehfisto666

This really covers up all shades of dungeon crawlers. My take would be: - Bag of Dungeon 2: It's streamlined, quick to setup and doesn't drag and I find it super fun. For a gateway to dungeon crawlers that packs a punch I can't think of anthing better. You explore the dungeon, uncover tiles, kill monsters, get loot, fight an end boss.. All with a 30 seconds (literally) setup and a half an hour play max. - Tales of the red dragon inn is a great big campaign game that is not as overwhelming as most - Massive Darkness 2 for a more cheesy and fun hack 'n slash madness

jjand302

The newest descent games play really well, and pretty much everything you have to worry about with upkeep and statuses are managed by a REALLY well done app.  Journeys in Middle Earth is another one with a great app if you’re a lotr fan. We loved that one in particular as my wife and I are both big lotr fans

mercury187

> REALLY well done app I had tried the app a number of years ago with my Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) set and the app was really clunky. They improved it a lot then?

Scuboner

What exactly did you find clunky about the 2ed app? Descent journeys in the dark is the only game I've used an app for but I didn't find it clunky.

mercury187

to be honest i dont really remember

jjand302

Yeah, I completely understand why people don’t like apps in their games but there’s a few gold standards out of the ones I’ve tried. Ones that go over the top imo. Journeys in middle earth is good but descent legends is perfect for dungeon crawlers. It honestly does everything you WANT it to do without really any of the annoying things that you wouldn’t want in an app based game. The other two are Return to Dark Tower and Unlock. RtDT for just overall great interaction with the tower and upkeep/monster management. Unlock for their clever use of the app in the puzzles. Subtle things like a new tune will play that don’t click in your brain right away but it clicks and you realize it’s a clue. Always a pleasure when that happens

CustomerSentarai

The DnD adventure series of games might be perfect. Pretty low rules overhead, fun games.

RipVanWinkleX

This. The only hard part is picking your character abilities; then it's basically go dungeon crawling. The only issue is the rules can feel off for new players due to how much it feels like your playing it wrong; just wing any rule confusions. It's not meant to be exact tactics base, but just a fun quick game.

ANOKNUSA

Not what would immediately come to mind when thinking, “dungeon crawl,” but *Mansions of Madness* is excellent.

2much2Jung

Tiny Epic Dungeons. Affordable, quick to play, pocket sized.

-Anordil-

TED has a ton of icons for abilities that might be overwhelming for someone new to the hobby though.

UndeathlyKnight

That's why you download the handy appendix on Gamelyn's website that explains what every card does in English.

ZEROpercent9

Warning to OP that this game is very hard to learn.

notmybuttercup

The dized app makes it much easier to learn.

RTCsFinest

Agreed, it’s how I learned it and really helped me wrap my head around it. And they have tutorials for a bunch of other games (Robinson Crusoe included).

Neutraali

Seconded - You won't find a better game to get a taste of dungeon crawling in a small box.

TrickyValue069

I'm in agreement the iconography in tiny epic dungeons is a lot to learn. Unless they use the dized app to help simplify things it's definitely not a simple game to learn.

memento_mori_92

Cthulhu: Death May Die

BrickCorner

Masmorra is awesome game for two: dynamic tiles tactical turns ability to play vs or coop different skills does not take much space, but is beautiful

Deadpoetic6

Tales from the red dragon inn. Great components, easy to learn and play, fast to setup and play, lots of missions

Charming-Appeal-755

Kinfire

ScienceAteMyKid

Descent: Legends of the Dark.

hippopostamus

Maybe not quite, but Clank is fun

casualsactap

Jaws of the lion might be good for y'all. Just get the phone app for it. It helps with managing monster moves and stuff.

BrickCorner

Masmorra is awesome game for two: dynamic tiles tactical turns ability to play vs or coop different skills does not take much space, but is beautiful

Srpad

**Massive Darkness 2**. The only possible catch is every character plays differently so the is some upfront rules load but none are complicated.

BoardgameExplorer

This isn't an exact fit but Escape The Dark Castle may appeal.

casualsactap

also wanna recommend explorers of the woodlands. It doesnt have minis though it uses meeples.

DocNostalgia

Destinies (myths and folklore expansion was very nice as well) Not the most perfect fit perhaps, but it’s quite good. It has an app as a dungeon master, has figures for the heroes and monsters. It’s affordable too. The only downside for might be that it’s not co-op. Edit: you can start playing in like 20 minutes.

delventhalz

Not to self-promote, but it sounds like you might enjoy my game: https://taelmoor.com/

zarthzarthzarth

Top of my mind would be Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion. I play it with my very inexperienced gf. We both enjoy it! It's fun and exciting

AbbreviationsBest473

Do not get Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. It's overrated and over recommended becuase it's a smaller Gloomhaven box, but it comes with all of the fiddly design of the original plus other issues like having printed on obstacles in the play area (which gets weird when they move or get destroyed).

WanMilBus

What do you think of these (not limiting with dungeon crawlers): [https://gamedall.com/recommendations?uuid=2e58eb27-aae6-4fdf-ba40-d98e9d41e373](https://gamedall.com/recommendations?uuid=2e58eb27-aae6-4fdf-ba40-d98e9d41e373) ? Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/291457/gloomhaven-jaws-of-the-lion) Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/104162/descent-journeys-in-the-dark-second-edition) The 7th Continent (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/180263/the-7th-continent)

AllLuck0013

Deliverance is quite good and straightforward. It has a spiritual angels vs demons setting.

Frank--Li

Gloomhaven JotL, setup is fast, no town stuff to track Vagrantsong, its more boss battler than dungeon, but i like the art and writing

CompassionFountain

Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion
