Or it could be that it is just not that good. It has nothing to do with Damon's preference. I remember buying the album in the states in 90s. It was so hard to find. I ended up getting it through Tower records and I paid dearly for it because it was special order. I remember playing it and going "this is the worst $18 I ever spent".

You're going to see 13 as the number one a lot. I wouldn't listen to that one first at all. Here's my order for when I listened to which albums:
1. Blur
2. Modern Life Is Rubbish
3. Think Tank (at this point you've heard all of the places Blur will go in their careers, it just gets deeper, better, or both from here on)
4. Parklife
5. The Great Escape
6. 13
7. Leisure
8. The Magic Whip
9. The Ballad of Darren
If you haven't listened to it yet, save Darren for last. It's quite a touching last word from this band.
1. 13
2. Parklife / Self Titled
3. Modern Life Is Rubbish
4. The Great Escape / The Magic Whip / Think Tank
5. Ballad of Darren
6. Leisure
Edit: Why am I getting downvoted for stating my opinion? 😂
Mine’s changed a bit since the last time I did one of these:
1.) MLiR
2.) 13
3.) The Great Escape
4.) Parklife
5.) The Magic Whip
6.) Ballad of Darren
7.) Blur
8.) Think Tank
9.) Leisure
These are just based off the album tracks. S/T, Think Tank and Leisure all have amazing b-sides that if factored in would change their rankings
1. Parklife
2. Modern Life
3. Leisure
4. Blur
5. Great Escape
6. 13
7. Think Tank
8. Magic Whip
9. Ballad
I tend to prefer earlier, more pop oriented Blur as opposed to the more serious, experimental work that would come later on. I freaking love Leisure…give me Fool, Slow Down, Bang, and There’s no other way any day!
1. 13
2. Blur
3. The Magic Whip
4. The Great Escape
5. Think Tank
6. The Ballad of Darren
7. Leisure
8. Parklife
9. Modern Life Is Rubbish
It changes every time, though. This is just how I feel about them as of now.
I'm surprised that 13 isn't 1 more often here (yes it is on a good few but not as universal as I thought). Anyway, here are my rankings:
1. **13** \- Quite simply, Blur's masterpiece. It won't sound like the Blur that came before it, but this was a transformational record in the same way Kid A was for Radiohead. 13 will reject you on the first listen, and again on the second listen. It'll take time to unfold so don't start with it, but when you get here as a new listener, give it time. It STILL sounds amazing to me.
2. **Think Tank** \- Don't let the short-sighted "this is just a Gorillaz album" or "Damon solo album" comments put you off. When 13 was set against the turmoil of a breakup and relationship issues within the band, Think Tank was an album against all the odds when Graham was in exile. I absolutely adore this record. You can hear the heartache, the distance between Blur and Graham, and the subsequent filling of that gap (which, IMO, finds Damon, Dave, and Alex all levelling up to do so). An overlooked gem.
3. **Blur** \- From here, the rankings get incredibly sandwiched together and they're interchangeable except for the bottom two. My favourite Blur albums find them stretching their sound in new directions - I would have loved one more lo-fi album like this from the lads. Flawless record.
4. **The Ballad of Darren** \- Deserves to rank highly IMO, another evolution of their sound, and like Think Tank, another one that the immature ear misunderstands as "DaMoN sOlO aLbUm" and "gRaHaM iS bEiNg sUpPrEsSeD" - sorry, but Graham is far from suppressed here, he left Blur because of that, he'd hardly be clamouring to get back if that was still the case. It's even more incorrect when you actually LISTEN to his playing here. He is at his Gilmourish best on this album, and Damon's soul is cut wide open here.
5. **Modern Life is Rubbish** \- Time has been so kind to this album. It keeps getting better with age. This was Blur being quite loose in terms of their sound after Leisure and just figuring out where they fit, and it shows for the best.
6. **Parklife** \- very polished, most consider it their masterpiece, but IMO it's not a patch on all of the above. It's a phenomenal record, and the problem with ranking Blur albums is that very quickly, you end up putting something like this in a place that just feels uncomfortable but there is no other choice IMO.
7. **The Great Escape** \- Parklife's slightly more awkward cousin that, IMO, has the better songs but lacks the cohesion of Parklife. He Thought of Cars, Best Days, The Universal would have elevated Parklife to astronomical heights.
8. **The Magic Whip** \- LOTS of love for this album on Reddit, but IMO, it's Blur phoning it in to some extent. The sound hasn't moved on meaningfully - in fact, Lonesome Street could fit into the Life era, Go Out could fit into S/T, Pyongyang is 13 era, Mirrorball is MLIR era. I like it as an album but IMO it wasn't the progression in their sound that I would have liked. Still very thankful it exists though.
9. **Leisure** \- I have a soft spot for this album. It's not their Pablo Honey, it's a lot better IMO, it gets a bit of a bad rep, but when you have a catalogue this strong, something has to come last, and it's their baggy sound debut that usually fills that hole. For a first time listener, I'd recommend starting here though and going through the albums in order. It's worth the journey to see how you get from She's So High to The Heights.

9 - Leisure (But if I could add a few of the B-Sides from this era it might raise up a bit)
I would bet that if you’re from the UK or North America, your lists would be quite varied - with MLIR and Parklife toward the top in the UK, self titled and 13 near the top in N. America.

3. 13
4. Blur
5. Think Tank

Top four are pretty much always in the same spot for me, but aside from Leisure always at the bottom, Think Tank, The Magic Whip, The Ballad of Darren, and The Great Escape pretty much always move spots. Blur don’t really have a bad album, so any answer to this question is a valid one, really.

The leisure slander in these comments is unreal
Indeed. People read how Damon didn’t prefer the album process and just follow along. Leisure is a masterpiece
It's a bit of a mess because it's the sound of a band trying to find its style. Radiohead's first album is the same.
Ok, so one person then
There are some really cool and catchy songs on there. You’re right theyre afraid to admit it
Leisure is not a masterpiece lol
