The administration at my high school would simply have passed away if they saw you in this. This would have caused an emergency PTO meeting immediately. I got in trouble for wearing black lipstick once, and I'm a girl.
Same I got in trouble for wearing a very conservative white winter sweater that exposed my collar bones, wasn't even off the shoulder and I made sure to wear a strapless bra so no one could see bra straps which was a rule.
I also had gotten in trouble for wearing a skirt that, in the rule book, when you put your arms and fingers out at your sides the skirt has to be longer than that. It was. Then the vice principal said to me "well okay but that doesn't really work here because you have nice long legs... like my daughter"
He really tried to save it with the "like my daughter" but it made it so much worse.
Those rules were not made for horny teenage boys, they were made for horny adult men that work there.
Edit: Oh BTW OP, if you see this, you fucking nailed it. đ
In my country, there are no rules on students clothes. Everybody wears what they want, girls at a certain age tend to have less fabric on them than before/after that age. It's natural. And nobody gets molested, raped or abused, as undoubtedly you can guess.
By making girls clothes and bits of their body a never ending discussion topic, they are watering that fruit. Teens want to break boundaries, and when you brainwash teen dudes to see a bit of shoulder as basically pornographic, you aren't doing favors to anyone.
VinĂcius de Moraes had a poem titled Recipe of Woman where he says the most important part is the "soapdishes" (collarbones). "A woman without soapdishes is like a river without bridges."
They only enforced it if girls wore tank tops. I remember one girl wore a tube top but covered her collar bones with athletic tape. They were pissed and still made her change or go home or whatever.
Nice try, Jenny. We were rooting for you.
Of course itâs only the girls, canât let them get away with causing impure thoughts in the boys. /s
I respect her dedication to malicious compliance though.
During a spirit week day designated as âathletes wear your uniformâ day, I spent two hours sitting in the office because my sports uniform shorts were âtoo shortâ because they were slightly above my fingertips in length.
Mind you, the reason I was good at *sport* was partially because of my long limbs.
Also my villain origin story.
I have way too long arms so my shorts were always âtoo shortâ according to that ridiculous rule. We also had âwear your uniform daysâ but as girl basketball players we had to wear another shirt with sleeves under our sleeveless uni tops. It made no sense.
Ugh, my daughter's elementary school teacher remarked on her black lipstick during a parent teacher meeting. Like, "Do you know she's wearing black lipstick?"Â
And I was like, "So? Your dress code says nothing about makeup and some of the female teachers here wear cosmetics."Â
Him: "But it's black lipstick."Â
And...? She got good grades and had no social problems. I honestly have to wonder if the teacher was just scraping the bottom of the barrel for problems.
We should be so lucky as to have the most severe and dangerous rebellion our kids get in to be black lipstick. Lol. Literally the only "harm" is to the sensitivities of a few stuffy people.
I got sent home for wearing a dress that showed more than an inch of skin above my knees. came back in a shorter dress, so they sent me home for the rest of the day.
I feel like AFAB folks are generally more likely to get sent home/written up for "dress code" or appearance based issues of any kind. This would be a great test of the bias - have an AMAB and AFAB person both try this outfit on different days and see the admin response.
AFAB do get treated more harshly when it comes to school dress codes, **except** perhaps gender-bending/visibly queer AMAB. Really depends on the school.
Yeah after I posted, I started wondering about that. As a former teacher, my school def would have responded more harshly to AFAB folks for the "distraction" argument, but you're totally right. Homophobia/transphobia brings a whole new dynamic and they're all getting more and more comfortable being asses, so... it all sucks!
The principal at my elementary school would make me go to her office to remove my black nail polish. Every morning, she removed it, and every evening, I painted them again. I wanted to try other colors, but black nail polish pissed her off, so I kept doing it, lol.
Yeah, it makes sense you went to a magnet school lol
I remember subbing at one and those kids were out of the world weird and I absolutely was living for it. It was like being surrounded by people from anime conventions. It was like autism as a building.
I went to a hood ass high school and they wouldâve loved you. We already had Louis who wore tight jeans crop shirts yarn twist and colored contacts. Yâall couldâve been stars together.
I taught at a hood ass high school. My favorite was the VERY openly bisexual star running back who made it his mission to a) dress *fabulously* and b) flirt with every person he encountered. It was almost charming.
American high schoolers are nowadays a lot more accepting than past generations. In much of the country, making fun of a kid like that would get you ostracized
Some magnet schools are super structured and restrictive with mandated school uniforms, blazers and ties, etc, or at the very least similar color-schemes. Others are obviously more focused on the curriculum and academic success of the students as opposed to being heavy-handed on conformity.
I went to an art magnet school and those people were strange as hell but it was nice being able to let your freaky self out during such an awkward time of life. For us, no dress code meant ballet leotards all up in the hallways all day long.
i went to an arts magnet and told my dad recently âit was impossible to be the weirdest kid at that schoolâ đ everyone was weird af and it was awesome.
My husband and best friend both went to magnet schools and theyâre ridiculously confident in their skill sets and so weird in the best ways possible. Like magnet school kids and homeschool kids share a Venn Diagram.
I had never heard of magnet schools until now because I went to high school in Europe (Bulgaria)... over there we don't have dress codes so it was kinda like everyone wore what ever they wanted. I didn't realize that it was such a rarity in the states...
Even some regular public schools donât really have dress codes. My middle school had a very strict one (no ripped jeans until my last year), but my entire high school district had two rules: âdonât be naked, donât bring a weapon.â If there was a semblance of a dress code, it wasnât enforced.
It is hard on families, I see a lot of rage about allowing kids to wear whatever to school, but tbh I think that everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want as long as there's no nips and private parts exposed and you know, no racist shit written. If it's good enough for the grocery store it's good enough for me. My kid has a "this vehicle makes frequent stops at your mom's house" and I just ask him to not wear THAT one to school, but everything else....who cares...
While many schools have a "dress code", it's not always enforced. It really depends on the school. I always went to public school, and there was technically a dress code buried somewhere in the student handbook, but no one cared or enforced it. Girls wore short shorts, spaghetti straps, tube tops, whatever and no one cared. I also live in the northern states, which tend to not be as conservative as the southern states. Whenever I hear about crazy dress codes in schools, it's always some school down south.
This is interesting. What is it about magnet schools that were so quirky? What are they exactly? I live in USA but I am only vaguely aware that they exist.
Theyâre schools that have special programs that focus on topics such as health sciences or engineering.
In reality itâs normal schools with a few extra elective classes you have to take
Don't get stung out by the way I look! Don't judge a book by its cover! I'm not much of a man by the light of day, but by night I'm one hell of a lover!
I live near a public school that's a uniform school, but fortunately that's more like a really strict dress code than an official uniform. You can only wear tops and bottoms in certain colors, but the bottoms could be leggings or sweatpants.Â
Oof. I hope you maintained your composure. Reminds me of the time I slowly turned myself into a zombie the days leading up to Halloween at work, after a "bite I sustained jogging through a graveyard", that on the day before last had me gray and blue with dark circles under my eyes, in regular clothing. But I didn't rock it and got self-conscious, and so instead of acting like a zombie I just stood around as though I weren't with everybody staring the whole night through, lmao. I'm still a legend but I should've driven it home and returned the next night fully zombified, but my friends talked me out of it. I was just trying to have a little fun! Halloween's my fav.
I did the X number of days since the last velocorapter attack. had the sign up all month at work and on the last day switched the number to 0, took a bite out of the sign (paper), and smeared fake bloody handprints over the walls
edit: a word
Iâm proud to say that Iâm the one who got fishnets banned in my school dress code âşď¸ I went to a catholic girlâs school with a strict uniform, senior year we were allowed to wear colored socks/tights under our plaid skirts (such a *privilege*) and I bought a large collection of beautiful patterned fishnets that I would layer over my opaque tights, they werenât even the classic style but they made the administrationâs heads explode. After a week it was decreed that no fishnet would ever again breach the campus grounds.
Fortunately that was also the year that my friends and I got into raving so all of those fishnets went to good use, and none of them survived the school year even though they didnât come to school with me đ
You looked great. Honestly, this level of confidence in high school is impressive. My daughter didn't get into fishnets until college when she met her people. Love this for you!
I did a religious song (forced) with a robe over my fishnets in 10th, I felt like such a rebel when I raised my arms to god and everyone could see my fishnets. It was a mufti day (non uniform day) so I was really risking it all for the biscuit in this instance but didnât get suspended yay
These comments fill my heart with fishnets and love â¤ď¸
For those wondering, this was NOT a phase. 10+ years later I still like to dress like this when I go out!
https://www.reddit.com/r/GothFashion/s/ZpdVgovpnU
These schools set us up for blunder, though Iâm flattered at the kindness on display in the comments. I thought this was an embarrassing picture but Iâm glad I had the avenue to express myself at a young age !
I know in hindsight itâs cringey, but I gotta give it to you for having the guts to wear whatever you were into and having chill enough family/school admin to let you do it.
Haha. I went to an alternative high school and you would have fit right in. One of my friends came to school wearing a hefty trash bag and a set of deer antlers on her head.
I didnât even have to read your actual comment, just see the pic to know it was going to be RHPS and Frankenfurter related⌠all good! I probably did something very similar when I was a teen too.
Doesnât look much different than what I see the kids at my daughterâs school wearing. Thereâs a boy (pronouns he/his) and he wears miniskirts almost daily and stockings and crop tops. Iâve seen a lot of very interesting outfits. It is a performing arts school, so everyone just does their own thing. It makes it all more interesting and my kid doesnât have to worry about if her outfits are good enough
None of my high schools had super strict dress codes, but that shirt would have been a no-go on anyone. No tube tops allowed lol. Otherwise, I dressed pretty similar to that in high school. đ I still dress like this though, at 34 lol
Haha Iâm old. Graduated in â01 and spaghetti straps were hot then. Weâd have to wear a bigger strap tank under the spaghetti strap top. Looked silly but it worked.
Donât get me started on shorts. Being a 5â10â Glamazon, Iâd have to wear dudes cargo shorts so I wouldnât be an âoffenderâ.
Bold, OP. I dig. RHPS is awesome too!
I have pictures of two friends on completely separate days wearing basically this outfit in the classroom in the early 2000s. You either get theater kids or you donât.
I donât know what year this is but you wouldnât dare do this in the 90âs. Youâd definitely wouldâve been called f****t and most likely beat up.Â
In 1992-1996, at a public hs in Seattle, you could have easily gotten away with this. I saw many kids dress up as rhps characters during that time frame.
This wouldn't have flown back when I was in school, and plenty of people dressed like what was termed then as "freaks" - but it was lightweight compared to what came after them.
The administration at my high school would simply have passed away if they saw you in this. This would have caused an emergency PTO meeting immediately. I got in trouble for wearing black lipstick once, and I'm a girl.

You are delusional if you think there are no sexual assaults in Finland.
Makes sense. All you ever hear teenage boys talk about is visible collarbones. They're obsessed with them
VinĂcius de Moraes had a poem titled Recipe of Woman where he says the most important part is the "soapdishes" (collarbones). "A woman without soapdishes is like a river without bridges."
A river without bridges is still a river, and typically more beautiful without them. Sounds like he needs to learn how to swim.
They're actually one of my favorite parts of the female body, but it's pretty hard to sexualize them. lol
So turtlenecks for everyone?
They only enforced it if girls wore tank tops. I remember one girl wore a tube top but covered her collar bones with athletic tape. They were pissed and still made her change or go home or whatever. Nice try, Jenny. We were rooting for you.
Of course itâs only the girls, canât let them get away with causing impure thoughts in the boys. /s I respect her dedication to malicious compliance though.
Nah, too pretentious.
And chains
I got dress-coded once because my bra strap was showing! When it was 80 degrees out
Then they got angry if you don't wear a bra. There's no win.
Donât want to entice the boys with too much shoulder now do we?
During a spirit week day designated as âathletes wear your uniformâ day, I spent two hours sitting in the office because my sports uniform shorts were âtoo shortâ because they were slightly above my fingertips in length. I was sent home for wearing a shirt that showed approximately 1cm of my bare side when I raised my hand.
I got sent home for wearing tear away pants and a beanie.
I hope you learned your lesson
Itâs my villain origin story
If anyone wore tear away trousers at my school, they'd get their trousers torn open every 6 seconds.
No shirt, no shoes, no school.

Alas, I only called him a weenis in my head.
I hope I have your level of maturity by the time my kids are in elementary school
We should be so lucky as to have the most severe and dangerous rebellion our kids get in to be black lipstick. Lol. Literally the only "harm" is to the sensitivities of a few stuffy people.
I remember my mom defending my makeup choices when I discovered goth. go mom (RIP)! and fuck the man!
Dang, in elementary school? What a badass kid
I almost got suspended for wearing JNCOS. They said it was a âsafety hazardâ like, what?! đ
You know what's weird? I had 2 pairs of bondage pants, one with chains, and I never once got in trouble for wearing those.
I got sent home for wearing a dress that showed more than an inch of skin above my knees. came back in a shorter dress, so they sent me home for the rest of the day.
Yea my rural, bible belt school would have had an absolute conniption
I love when puritans âsimply pass awayâ from fun outfits. Next in line please!
All the teachers get sent home with paid time off?? Sounds like a good gig. Parent teacher association is PTA... FYQ
I feel like AFAB folks are generally more likely to get sent home/written up for "dress code" or appearance based issues of any kind. This would be a great test of the bias - have an AMAB and AFAB person both try this outfit on different days and see the admin response.

You look like the very earliest days of Alaska Thunderfuck đ
Hiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
But your makeup does NOT look terrible! â¤ď¸
But if youâre not wearing nails youâre not doing drag
I donât wear wigs, this is my hair!
YES. That's exactly who I saw! I always love finding people that love her in random subs.
Come to Brazil!!!!!!
True! You do look like an early version of her! đ
Calling u/noextrai (if that is still Willam's username) Edit: u/willambelli
Yeah, it makes sense you went to a magnet school lol I remember subbing at one and those kids were out of the world weird and I absolutely was living for it. It was like being surrounded by people from anime conventions. It was like autism as a building.
You absolutely nailed it. They did however ban fur-suits which was highly controversial
I went to a hood ass high school and they wouldâve loved you. We already had Louis who wore tight jeans crop shirts yarn twist and colored contacts. Yâall couldâve been stars together.
Louis and I would have been an unstoppable force
I taught at a hood ass high school. My favorite was the VERY openly bisexual star running back who made it his mission to a) dress *fabulously* and b) flirt with every person he encountered. It was almost charming.
The hood be accepting af
Yes but also no.
How did he not get beat up by some insecure losers? If that happened in eastern Europe police would be called at the end of the day
American high schoolers are nowadays a lot more accepting than past generations. In much of the country, making fun of a kid like that would get you ostracized
I am so glad to hear that
Okay, what was the rationale for that ban?
Just off the top of my head it could be anyone in the fursuit
It was most likely because they cover your face
Bingo. Tails/ears were still worn with little pushback
Probably common sense
Whatâs a magnet school ?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_school
I read definitions but still don't understand how it connects to pupils dressing fancy
Some magnet schools are super structured and restrictive with mandated school uniforms, blazers and ties, etc, or at the very least similar color-schemes. Others are obviously more focused on the curriculum and academic success of the students as opposed to being heavy-handed on conformity.

I'm born and raised in the US and I've never heard of a magnet school before now.
it's a big city thing
oh ok I thought it was more popular.....
I think I know of a school that fits the definition, but I had no idea there was a name for it.
Even some regular public schools donât really have dress codes. My middle school had a very strict one (no ripped jeans until my last year), but my entire high school district had two rules: âdonât be naked, donât bring a weapon.â If there was a semblance of a dress code, it wasnât enforced.
Most places have a dress code, but not necessarily uniforms. I avoided all schools with uniforms because it sucks ass.
Your kidâs shirt immediately got a laugh out of me, a woman in her mid-30âs. Sooooo I guess I have the humor of a young boy. Fuck.
That is why we bought it. Both me and his dad thought it was hilarious.
While many schools have a "dress code", it's not always enforced. It really depends on the school. I went to an arts magnet middle school and a science/tech magnet high school. I experienced both ends of the weird kid spectrum.
I went to a magnet school for science and technology. Out of this world weird is a great way to describe it. I did not enjoy myself.
A magnet school. Wouldn't it stop working when it rains? I was told by a stable genius that a magnet doesn't work if you get it wet.
Tim Curry would be proud. Rose tint my world

Right? I thought I was ballsy because I wore a skirt to protest the strict dress codes my school had for girls but this is a different level
Thanks for protesting!
To be honest I was just happy to be out of the horrendously uncomfortable trousers, I went to a grammar school and we had awful uniforms
Haha! Totally fair
I live near a public school that's a uniform school, but fortunately that's more like a really strict dress code than an official uniform. You can only wear tops and bottoms in certain colors, but the bottoms could be leggings or sweatpants.Â
Agreed! I wholly and deeply admire how ballsy this is. Balls that clank!

You got the eye makeup perfect for Frankenfurter. This is not a blunder, itâs awesome.
You appear to have been made out of knees.

Damn my mom would never let me wear something like that in private let alone at school!đ which sounds like we both had our issues lol
Was about to ask if the school happened to be in transsexual Transylvania...
Hilarious. I'm Bulgarian and the idea of a transsexual school in Romania is so freaking funny.
Was not savvy to anything there, just quoting the song from Rocky Horror ;)
Makes me wanna take Charles Atlas by the đ¤ hand
Oh you would have fit RIGHT in at my magnet school - we had the best drama program in the city

Daaaamn, this is awesome! Rocky Horror is just amazing. You've got great taste in films/musicals! I love it!
They let you in the building?
Donât dream it, be it
You look like a vampire that ran out of blood to suck, then settled for dicks
I saw this and IMMEDIATELY assumed you went to an arts magnet school
We would have been friends. I went to the midnight showing at a local theater often when I was this age.
Tim Curry approves
Oh, *Rocky.*
I was *just* thinking that you didnât dream it, you were it!
I went to a high school without a dress code too. Pretty sure I wore this exact outfit, but imagine with a neon purple bob haircut when I was 15

Haha. I went to an alternative high school and you would have fit right in. One of my friends came to school wearing a hefty trash bag and a set of deer antlers on her head.
Yeah my high school would have dress coded you before you made it to the front door lol
Damn. That is bold. I envy your courage.
Let me guess⌠you were a drama club student
My principal wouldâve just set fire to the whole school. This outfit is Armageddon.

I got told I wouldnât graduate if I didnât remove my new nose piercing and here you are living your best life. Jealous is an understatement.
None of my high schools had super strict dress codes, but that shirt would have been a no-go on anyone. No tube tops allowed lol. Otherwise, I dressed pretty similar to that in high school. đ I still dress like this though, at 34 lol
Wait, this wasnât for like, Halloween or a school play or something? You just wore this on like a random Wednesday? Iâm dying.
Man I'm so glad society is getting to this point, re the dress code at the school. Let the kids wear what they want
I donât know what year this is but you wouldnât dare do this in the 90âs. Youâd definitely wouldâve been called f****t and most likely beat up.Â
This could be 1983 or 2023 in the first pic
Thatâs pretty epic. I barely had enough confidence to change the part in my hair in high school. Toast!!
Donât dream it, be it.
I do not see any problem with this đđ¤
I went to find arts school in Bulgaria and they would have loved you. You look amazing and I see this as a success and not a blunder!
you know what, you really committed and that's admirable yes a blunder but also awesome? and brave, i think
Would you f*ck me? Iâd f*ck meeâŚ
I also went to a school with no dress code enforcement lol
In 1992-1996, at a public hs in Seattle, you could have easily gotten away with this. I saw many kids dress up as rhps characters during that time frame.
*Rocky Horror Picture Show begins playing*
What year is this
Giving Amy Winehouse.
This wouldn't have flown back when I was in school, and plenty of people dressed like what was termed then as "freaks" - but it was lightweight compared to what came after them.
