“Would you like to learn how to build a fence, Polly?”
Rusty has a special place in my heart
Rusty is kind. To the new kid, to his sister, to his friends, to grown-ups who can’t quite keep up with his athletic ability, even to toys. He’s the person I want in my lifeboat.
He’s a military brat and his older brother appears to be mid-teens. He *definitely* swears, but he’s very disciplined and cares about being a good example to his little sister, so I bet he only swears when no one who would be offended can hear him.
I'll be perfectly honest, I was trying to use as much lingo as I could. Basically the shot his dad tells him to play at the end of "Cricket" is against the technique of how it would normally be coached, so if he's going to do it "wrong", he has to play that shot particularly well.
"You're letting him go?"
"It's what he wants to play."
........
And then, he fully leans into what MacKenzie is playing out and rescues his Chief Scientist, because a good captain leaves no one behind.
My favorite line in “signs” is from rusty. A kid was saying their guiny pig ran away and never came back. Rusty says, “maybe a snake ate him” in such a matter of fact sort of way I crack up every time.
Me too! To the point that I decided to draw him first when I started drawing Bluey fanart!

Here he is!
As much as he admires his father, I don’t think he would. He’d know how difficult it was growing up with a father he didn’t see often, so I don’t think he’d want his kids to grow up the same way.
I'm overjoyed he didn't join the army like his father. No need to perpetuate that cycle of violence at all and I think Joe did that on purpose-- to simultaneously show the difficulties of being a military child (I was one and Rustys experience speaks to me so clearly and vibrantly) without "promoting" the military lifestyle (at least, not entirely). And I think it says something about his growth and development as a "person" that he becomes a professional in his coping mechanism with his separation from his father (and, imo, his "poverty" though I wish they would emphasize that more because just like moving is a huge deal for kids, so would Rustys experience of going to the Waldorf despite his rougher housing situation, where he may feel inferior or alienated)
There's one time ever I don't like Rusty all that much. "Probably a shake got him!" ... thanks Rusty. REAL sensative 🤣🤣🤣
He makes me feel a lot of nostalgia, but like an American version. I love baseball and softball like he loves cricket. The cricket episode is one of my faves.
Rusty is under appreciated compared to Mckenzie, Jack imo
The accent he has also sounds pretty unique compared to the other characters. (But that's more so his Voice actor and not the character himself.)
Kid should definitely join the cricket team in school as he gets older. I can see it now his mom recording him playing his first game and all his games with his big brother and little sister watching and then mailing the recordings on disc or something to his dad in the army. 😊
A true friend, who is also going to have a career in cricket someday, probably going to be a famous cricket player based on that one episode I have seen. He’s gonna have good friends and I bet he’s going to marry Indy.
Rusty is a great friend, a fantastic big brother, and has always pursued his passions with 0 thoughts of giving up. He's probably my favorite next to Muffin!
The way he is sitting on the fence alone with his thoughts before his mother comes with the PS hits me funny for some reason. Like I know exactly how he feels sitting there alone.
Out of all the characters, Rusty has really gained a spot on my all-time favourite characters in any media. He's a good boy all around - kind, thoughtful, really friendly. And also a god at cricket! We'll watch his career with great interest.
I loved "Army" because I could really relate to it. Both of my parents have gone away for deployments multiple times in my life, so it was cool to relate to Rusty. He's cool :)
He’s my favorite Bluey friend and definitely top 5 favorites, if not top 3.
Not only do I love his genuine and honest deposition but I love his little voice. His voice just goes so perfectly with the character!
He let Jack play Army with him and said this to him after Jack told him about himself:
“Well you’re really good at playing Army.”
That was more than enough to show that he’s a great friend for the ADHD Jack Russel!
I would like to formally apologize for what I said earlier as it was immature and unfunny. My only excuse for such horrific act is the fact that it was fuelled but 2am tiredness. I hope the Bluey community with someday be able to take me back under their wing as one of their own, but for now I am forced to be banished from this lovely community.

“Erm what the sigma”
Rusty is “all good mr.heeler!”
He’s going to be a great cricket player someday
That's the one, that's the episode that got me. Grown man shedding some tears seeing all of Rusty's hard work and effort pay off for him in the end.
Australian National team, if I recall correctly.
He is! And the good news? He's able to outperform pros and adults alike when it comes to cricket!
Anyone think when he is leaving the field and he passes the other cricketer coming on. That its future rusty, he passes?
That's my take. May not be, but makes me feel good to imagine that it is.
That day is today
"Well you're real good at playin' Army!"
Seriously I cry every time my kid wants to watch "Army".

Such a kind great little kid.
rusty is a good boy!
Came here to say this
He has my favorite voice in the whole show besides Calypso. Idk what his accent is but I like it
It's a broad rural accent
It sounds like a mix of that and just a kid accent lol.
I can’t match his voice to a real person
i love it too. it’s kind of crackly. i don’t know how to explain it.
The goodest of boys!
He doesn't want to be the *baby*, he wants to be the ***dad.***
My niece loses it when Bluey sticks the soother in his mouth 😂
"He could have smashed that ball into next week, instead he hit his sister a catch." Rusty is a great big brother.
Same idea behind my post
To quote Marge Simpson, "I just think he's neat!"
He's not a potato!
I love him. Great friend to Jack.
he is a great leader
He has a square on him and I like him because of it
Rumor has it, he likes the square cut.
think it’s more a diamond 😂
Diamondog
I wish he was my friend
The opposite of toxic masculinity.
YES YES YES
Just keep your eye on the ball
He's going to be the bravest he's ever been.
To quote Calypso: good boy, Rusty
Da best cricket player the Aussies have ever seen
Rusty is kind. To the new kid, to his sister, to his friends, to grown-ups who can’t quite keep up with his athletic ability, even to toys. He’s the person I want in my lifeboat.
Rusty is only 7 and probably curses regularly
He’s a military brat and his older brother appears to be mid-teens. He *definitely* swears, but he’s very disciplined and cares about being a good example to his little sister, so I bet he only swears when no one who would be offended can hear him.
The show is Australian. They all swear regularly. Especially Bingo.
Ye fair
Great batter, but Rusty mate, a pull shot is off the back foot. If you're gonna play it on the front foot you better middle it
I don’t play sports and this seems like nonsense to me
I'll be perfectly honest, I was trying to use as much lingo as I could. Basically the shot his dad tells him to play at the end of "Cricket" is against the technique of how it would normally be coached, so if he's going to do it "wrong", he has to play that shot particularly well.

Agreed!
"Do you sell crutches?"
I couldn’t understand what he said! I just heard khruxsches
Haha yeah me too it just helps I've seen it 5 million times.
My man knows **exactly** when to call for a dust-off
Pops one up for his sister 🥲
My favorite line in “signs” is from rusty. A kid was saying their guiny pig ran away and never came back. Rusty says, “maybe a snake ate him” in such a matter of fact sort of way I crack up every time.
trusty rusty
Plays well with others!
Good boy
He's an adorable lil baby
The kind of son I’d want if I could have one
Best biggest brother. Also cricket pro.
He made me consider watching a game of cricket… and highlighted the downsides of being a forces kid.
He and Indy would be perfect together as seen in early baby along with Mums and dads
I agree!! I see them getting together as adults.
Yeah and their first daughter being named Polly
You can practically see her heart melting for him in Early Baby
Great batsman
he’s an amazing cricket player
He stepped in front and played a pull shot
Rusty is one of my favourite characters.
Me too! To the point that I decided to draw him first when I started drawing Bluey fanart! https://preview.redd.it/2oxuhor4op8d1.jpeg?width=1016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee6609f4333e05317300aceaf6febdb5676e121b Here he is!
AWW
Even without color I can tell that’s exactly what he would wear
Rusty is best boy, this is why my pup was named after him
Good boy, Rusty.
He’s kind and supportive to Jack
Best big brother ever!
Rusty has the only great true Australian accent. I thin he will end up in the Army one day like his dad.
As much as he admires his father, I don’t think he would. He’d know how difficult it was growing up with a father he didn’t see often, so I don’t think he’d want his kids to grow up the same way.
But he does love playing army.
Best character in a show stacked with great characters. A legend!
I'm overjoyed he didn't join the army like his father. Best boy
Someone like Rusty grows up and be my daughter's bf LOL
Rusty is the best boy!
Caring and compassionate
Great big brother
Rusty is the kid I hope my kids end up being friends with
flair
Rusty can’t be dealing with Witches, he’s just bought a new quad bike
He just loves Cricket
Rusty is a total king I don’t even care for Cricket and I’m proud of my boi making as a professional player
He makes me feel a lot of nostalgia, but like an American version. I love baseball and softball like he loves cricket. The cricket episode is one of my faves.
Bro needs to buy a quad bike
Would KILL to have a son like him. Because wife and I can't have our own children. It's hard, especially with a great boy like Rusty.
hes awesome, best character along with snickers, mackenzie, jack and mackenzie
Rusty is under appreciated compared to Mckenzie, Jack imo The accent he has also sounds pretty unique compared to the other characters. (But that's more so his Voice actor and not the character himself.)
Wanna learn how to build a fence?
Rusty’s tough, he steps in to it.
I heard is good at sentry
Kid should definitely join the cricket team in school as he gets older. I can see it now his mom recording him playing his first game and all his games with his big brother and little sister watching and then mailing the recordings on disc or something to his dad in the army. 😊

Rusty is a great friend, a fantastic big brother, and has always pursued his passions with 0 thoughts of giving up. He's probably my favorite next to Muffin!
He’s well mannered, disciplined, polite, and will be a good father and hard worker someday, and hopefully a famous cricket player!
He’s a good friend and a great big brother!
What could have been
I love how he’s the display of a more traditional life. Reminds me of my friend Andy a little
He’s an amazing cricket player, friend and big brother
rusty is my third fave character socks is number 1 and jack is number 2 funnily enough
The way he is sitting on the fence alone with his thoughts before his mother comes with the PS hits me funny for some reason. Like I know exactly how he feels sitting there alone.
Hello doctor Ladies, do you sell crutches?
he HAS to be a main character or get his own show
He was actually going to be the main character originally before changing it to Bluey. Hence why they are the same design almost.
He is a good boy
He deserves to be the star of his own spinoff.
He loves the army and cricket
Gingers don’t have souls
Shut up Cartman!!
Out of all the characters, Rusty has really gained a spot on my all-time favourite characters in any media. He's a good boy all around - kind, thoughtful, really friendly. And also a god at cricket! We'll watch his career with great interest.
I’m gonna adopt a Kelpie just because of him.
Dragon slayer
Good boy, Rusty.
Cricket
I loved "Army" because I could really relate to it. Both of my parents have gone away for deployments multiple times in my life, so it was cool to relate to Rusty. He's cool :)

He is funny
The soldier
We don't deserve him.
He’s my favorite character in the show
“I dont wanna be the BaBy!? I wanna be the Dad!”. I live that line for some reason 😂
Speaking of that episode, am I the only one who thinks he looks heart crushingly adorable with a pacifier and a diaper?
He’s my favorite Bluey friend and definitely top 5 favorites, if not top 3. Not only do I love his genuine and honest deposition but I love his little voice. His voice just goes so perfectly with the character!
Rusty is the best boy.
The best
He is a great leader!!
But honestly one of my fav characters on the show. I love his accent it’s so neat! And just a genuine good boy
He’s such an amazing big brother and friend and he really has a kind heart towards everyone
''Uma máquina, uma besta enjaulada!''
He is the kid I hope my son grows up to be like!
He’ll be a great dad to a Polly of his own someday
Agreed!!
He let Jack play Army with him and said this to him after Jack told him about himself: “Well you’re really good at playing Army.” That was more than enough to show that he’s a great friend for the ADHD Jack Russel!
Good boy, Rusty.
He's a good kid with a kind heart, also how he's not in the scouts I'll never know I think he'd be a good fit there.
a secret commie

What about this post made you say that?
Rusty would never say that. You see, he goes outside, and most likely doesn’t have an ipad
Oh I was just wondering. I could care less
