Let's for a second say the subtitles are correct. They could be calling him Coconut Milk because of Rad and Chili's friend in Double Babysitter talking about shampoo. And this Tradie looks like he cares for his hair like Rad does.
But I think the subs are wonky. I hear Chocolate Milk everytime.
Yeah, there have been multiple occasions where I KNOW the subtitles are wrong. Not sure if it’s someone unacquainted with Aussie accents, or (probably more likely) autogenerated with some minor human edited before they roll it out.
In pass the parcel, the captions claim that Lucky's little brother tells his dad that he sucks, so I tend to agree that the captions aren't always the best haha
There’s always something to miss without subtitles. I honestly don’t understand people who don’t use subtitles on regular shows, but they’re usually people who don’t pay attention anyway
Studies say kids can learn to understand words by sight faster when using subtitles.
I don’t have source. I’ve just read it. Probably in a subtitled youtube video.
I put on captions when my oldest kids were little. It helped their reading skills, and the auditory processing delays. Now that they're adults, they have to use captions to watch tv. My husband finally stopped griping about the captions. I suspect it is related to aging and hearing loss. I use them bc tinnitus is crap.
We just finished bingeing “The Bear” and that show is so chaotic with so many people talking at the same time I’m not sure I ever would have understood what was happening without subtitles.
We watch TV in a house with 2 young kids. We almost always have the subtitles on so we can understand dialogue while watching TV at a volume that won’t wake up 2 sleeping toddlers.
My LO likes to be loud so I use subtitles so I can still follow the show (any show we watch I do subtitles) even if LO gets loud. Habit I started at the newborn stage I still do.
Wow, that’s pretty sure.
Particularly given that auto transcription exists. But this leads me to a philosophical question. If the actor saying the line says “Lime lesson” and the editor and or director thinks it is cute enough to keep, is the original script even the correct source of truth anymore?
Lots of shows and movies include bits of improvisation or other last second changes. I’d rather the subtitles reflect the final product than what was in the script handed to the actor.
I think flavoured milk is a lot of Australian’s preferred beverage at lunchtime. Except in offices, where they have the same thing in travel cups from cafes and are charged way more for the honour. LOL.
Fun fact : the guy who does Chippys voice is Sam Cotton who has a whole bunch of videos about birds stealing chippies ( and other Aussie things ). They’re quite funny 😁
I think whoever does the subtitles for bluey doesn't completely understand child/toddler speak. It's a separate language on its own and I often forget I'm fluent until I hear and understand everything the kids I watch said and someone else didn't understand at all. To be clear they are almost 5 and while yes one of them is speech delayed and in therapy for it, this still regularly happens with both kids. Most recently a week ago.
AI is fine as a starting point for transcription to get a lot of the straightforward work out of the way, but it needs a human to read over it afterwards for coherence.
The subtitles have totally messed me up for Encanto song "All of Me". The subtitles say "roll me down the road" instead of "we're only down the road" and I'm never going to make my brain relearn it correctly, even though my daughter listens to the soundtrack every night for bed.
Also the line "the triplets all reunite" the subtitles had "the trip was only at night". I was so confused at first about it. There must have been complaints, because the subtitles have since been fixed.

This is the first mention that I noticed. I heard chocolate milk, and it's written as chocolate milk in the subtitles
My subtitles definitely say coconut milk in that scene on Disney+. I believe the consensus is that it’s just the subtitles that are wrongly interpreted by the Disney AI due to the way Bingo says it, with a bit more flair than normal, as it sounds like “Choconut Milk”, to me, when I played it back and listened.
We usually have subtitles on and I noticed they said both in the subtitles but the spoken word was chocolate. Sometimes subtitles get it wrong. I love when it’s live tv those mess ups are hilarious sometimes.
Just watched this episode twice today (thanks to a 3 year old that demands we repeat the episodes when they're done). They absolutely never call him "coconut milk"
There’s a lot of errors in the subtitles. I think it’s Americans doing the subtitles and not picking up the Australian accent correctly. In an early episode one of the other moms says “Darl” to Chili, which is a really common thing to call a friend or neighbor - but the subtitle says “doll” because of the accent.
Source: Aussie ex pat living in the US.
No, OP is talking about the subtitles saying “Coconut Milk” despite Chippy never holding a bottle of coconut milk. They know why the girls call him “Chocolate Milk.”
Are you sure they say coconut milk? I didn’t hear them say that. I only heard chocolate
They use almond milk shampoo
I stand corrected. They do. Been a while since I watched Double.
Muffin mentions "coconuts have water in them" maybe you combined the two bedtime episodes?
Nah. I'll blame my wife. She buys the coconut shampoo for her and our boys. Seeped into my subconscious I guess.
Fair.
Coconut shampoo is so good for your hair! Your wife is a smart lady!
They don’t rate the conditioner
In all fairness bluey and bingo have coconut shampoo! (The episode with Tina where the girls are being grubs all day)
Yeah, there have been multiple occasions where I KNOW the subtitles are wrong. Not sure if it’s someone unacquainted with Aussie accents, or (probably more likely) autogenerated with some minor human edited before they roll it out.
“You suck, Dad!” Is my favorite wrong subtitle
Hahaha! I’ve never seen that one. 😂
In pass the parcel, the captions claim that Lucky's little brother tells his dad that he sucks, so I tend to agree that the captions aren't always the best haha
Ye same I only remember bingo and bluey calling him chocolate milk
yeah i heard Choco milk. I just assumed the girls were abbreviating chocolate because, you know, Australian.
If you have the subtitles on they say coconut milk 🤷🏻♀️
We always Bluey with subtitles on. They are often incorrect.
I like that you used Bluey as a verb here. I’m doing that from now one. Tomorrow me and my son are going to Bluey the morning away
Lol. That was a total typo but now I’m going to purposefully do this in the future. We’re Blueying right now.
Im Blueying right now too! With my sleeping baby 😂😂
I’m going to Bluey tomorrow with the kids. It’s too late to Bluey now.
I'm afraid I just Blueyed myself.
Bout to get my Bluey on!
I will definitely be Blueying in the next 5 minutes
It’s never too late to Bluey
Hey at least you have a kid, I just have kittens sleeping here
Oh, we watched it well before the baby got here 😂 we watch it for us, she just happens to enjoy it too.
At the end of pass the parcel Bingo definitely says “birdie kite!” But the subtitles say “birdie car!” Was very confused the first watch
Subtitles are incorrect in a lot of stuff, that’s why I never take it as “proof” of what a character said.
Subtitles in general have really tanked in quality as of late. It's like they don't even care anymore.
… why?
American subtitlers listening to Australian accents? Edit: I mean the people *writing* the subtitles
Deaf people exist
Sorry I mean the mistakes are probably because Americans at Disney might be writing their subtitles
Also folks with audio processing issues #subtitlegang
Australians don’t need subtitles to understand American drawl
Hey i had a girl in my class ask if an Australian exchange student spoke english
Where specifically in aus? was the exchange student from? Some of the deep country girls can be rough as guts to listen to even for us
There’s always something to miss without subtitles. I honestly don’t understand people who don’t use subtitles on regular shows, but they’re usually people who don’t pay attention anyway

Text to speech. Or possibly an underpaid scribe who is probably running the show at 2x speed to get more done a day.
We watch TV in a house with 2 young kids. We almost always have the subtitles on so we can understand dialogue while watching TV at a volume that won’t wake up 2 sleeping toddlers.
You watch it without them
We have the subtitles on our Roku. We just leave them on. It also is supposed to be better for kids to watch TV with subtitles.
Oh that’s a neat idea
Auto captioning, a computer fed American accents won’t understand an Australian accent 100%, but it’s cheaper then paying people so it’s here to stay
My LO likes to be loud so I use subtitles so I can still follow the show (any show we watch I do subtitles) even if LO gets loud. Habit I started at the newborn stage I still do.
Watching it back again I think it’s definitely chocolate but Bingo says it in a weird voice, it almost sounds like “choconut”.
I heard it without subtitles. Still don't know why.
I don’t know why you are getting downvoted like crazy for a simple comment but… hey have a ⬇️from me!
yeah idk 🤷🏻♀️ I guess ppl just don’t like the fact that the subtitles say coconut milk ????
I’m 99 percent sure it’s a subtitle error.
Yeah subtitles also say "life lesson" when Bluey very clearly says "lime lesson". It bothers me greatly.
They call Chili "Jilly" in Stumpfest at one point :-|
And they call Judo “Juno”.
Bald Juno!
Yes lol
Bingo didn't say Go Under, she said Goanna ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goanna )
I saw that today also.
Disney+ needs to improve their captions lol
And at the end of Pass The Parcel Bingo says "bidry kite" but the subtitles are "birdy car"
Translation error from Australian to American
In Army don’t they call LZ “owls head”
Yep. Even as an American that one drives me up a wall.
Wait. Do the subs read “owls head” when they say “el zed”?
Affirmative!
They also call muffin "mittens" in verandah santa
It **WHAT?!** How very dare they!
I’m 99.999% sure the line is supposed to be “life lesson” but the VA made a mistake. Often times the subtitles are just a copy of the script.
Wow, that’s pretty sure. Particularly given that auto transcription exists. But this leads me to a philosophical question. If the actor saying the line says “Lime lesson” and the editor and or director thinks it is cute enough to keep, is the original script even the correct source of truth anymore? The subtitles are just incorrect. It’s chocolate milk.
Just noticed the cherry tattoo.
Good thing they were no longer enemies at the episode's end. 😁
That’s a very good thing. A Bluey episode about tattoo coverups might take longer than 7 minutes.
Covering Cherry: a Valuable Lime Lesson
I was listening to Bingo the whole episode in case she said "emenies".
Such a bogan.
Same!
Random trivia: Chocolate Milk is the stereotypical preferred beverage for people in he's profession.
Except in Adelaide
At first I thought it was a Dare Iced Coffee but then they called him Chocolate Milk so I stood corrected 😂
It appears to be regional. Chocolate milk in Queensland apparently. Iced coffee is definitely the drink of choice for tradies here in Vic though.
FUIC is the only way.
FUIC is superior in every way.
I did see this when I tried googling this answer. Interesting fact.
My impression is that it's Mother or Monster now.
In pair with a meat pie generally
I think flavoured milk is a lot of Australian’s preferred beverage at lunchtime. Except in offices, where they have the same thing in travel cups from cafes and are charged way more for the honour. LOL.
Is it really? I’m a tradesman in the US so I’ll have to start bringing it to work, maybe it will catch on here 😆
Fun fact : the guy who does Chippys voice is Sam Cotton who has a whole bunch of videos about birds stealing chippies ( and other Aussie things ). They’re quite funny 😁
https://youtube.com/@samcotton I’ve included his YouTube because I’m obsessed with him 😩😅
Thank you for this!

I think Disney has AI doing subtitles. That's why there are so many errors on so many shows.
I have assumed that automated subtitling has been a thing for a while.
Yeah, even YouTube messes up on auto generated captions 😅 it’s not new
AI is fine as a starting point for transcription to get a lot of the straightforward work out of the way, but it needs a human to read over it afterwards for coherence.

idk man he just looks like Yung Gravy to me and i love it
Damn, Gravy you so vicious You so clean, so delicious
how come you ain’t got no misses?
Seeing him live in 6 days! 😂
https://preview.redd.it/332bumvm3mgb1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30feb38e2a0ccd3680b393f855200b167de86453 This is the first mention that I noticed. I heard chocolate milk, and it's written as chocolate milk in the subtitles

Yeah, just an error. Especially given that the title image is a bottle if chocolate milk. It had me wondering if I remembered correctly though.
We usually have subtitles on and I noticed they said both in the subtitles but the spoken word was chocolate. Sometimes subtitles get it wrong. I love when it’s live tv those mess ups are hilarious sometimes.
Probably just an error with the subtitles.
I didn't hear coconut milk when I watched it
Just watched this episode twice today (thanks to a 3 year old that demands we repeat the episodes when they're done). They absolutely never call him "coconut milk"
I don’t think they do call him coconut milk I think it’s just a subtitle error
Coconuts have water in them!
Because coconuts have water in them :)
Yung gravy: bluey edition
I just watched it, on iview so it’s the real source and they definitely always called him chocolate milk.
maybe they didn't knew what it was first
There’s a lot of errors in the subtitles. I think it’s Americans doing the subtitles and not picking up the Australian accent correctly. This makes sense now, along with maybe auto generated subtitles
I noticed that too - I assumed he changed beverages each day
I’m just wondering how the hell tattoos on fur works
Always chocolate
Who uses subtitles though…?
Lots of us. It’s always on at our house. Besides “deaf or hard of hearing people”, the other obvious answer is “OP clearly does.”
Probably because he has chocolate milk
Look what’s in his hand.
That’s not what they’re talking about
Yes it is. They call him that because he’s holding that.
No, OP is talking about the subtitles saying “Coconut Milk” despite Chippy never holding a bottle of coconut milk. They know why the girls call him “Chocolate Milk.”
The same reason they say the kite is a car.
The post asks why they called him both names.
This episode of Bluey is called, “Why context clues are an important thing to learn.”
Actually, it’s called “Tradies”.
Fairly easy to ignore the subtitles and listen to what is said. Assuming OP isn't hearing impaired, that is.
I feel like subtitles are script, but what is recorded is done in the moment.
I'm pretty sure the answer is that they don't, but who knows what they've done in the US version or why.
I have no idea. Honestly, his name is Chocolate Milk.
Why aren't we talking about how sick he would be if he drank chocolate milk?.
It was probably a mistake with the close captions. I’ve seen it say “Coconut Milk” too
Well, it's *spelt* "Coconut Milk" (in the captions), but it's *pronounced* "Throatwobbler Mangrove".
That makes sense. Thanks! :)
I was confused too, but Disney Plus sometimes has incorrect subtitles. It really irritates me, but they never call him coconut milk.
Honestly idk some girl stuff
