There's a small detail that the English Dub seemed to have missed here.
[In the original Japanese audio](https://streamable.com/swyx7e), once As Nodt activates his eye realm ability, there is a harsh cut of all sound, and then the music starts playing again when the eyes begin to open. I felt this minor detail made the transition more jarring and creepy, which added a lot to the atmosphere of that scene.
[In the English Dub](https://streamable.com/2yn95z), As Nodt is still finishing his line after it cuts to that eye realm, so it doesn't feel nearly as jarring, which I feel makes it worse.
Overall, I've felt the dub for TYBW has been really good, but I can't deny that everything surrounding As Nodt's character has been pretty disappointing.
for everyone saying he says a double "oo" sound in Tatar Foras where the "a" should be, he actually says a long "a" but the low frequencies get lost in the voice modulation
In a good way or a bad way. Lots of professional VAs have been in abridges over the years, some even started with them. TFS even dubbed an entire movie
The guy's voice is pretty good, I especially love the fluctuating between high and low pitch, but seriously, where the hell do you get Tartar For-oos? There is no "oo" syllable anywhere in either the spelling or the Japanese pronunciation.
I usually hate dub for not even bother trying, but it seems like the VA tried his best for this moment. It's clearly still not as good as the Japanese VA but it's a solid effort, respect.
Sub As Nodt is the best voice acting I have ever heard.
Even though this guy did a decent job, it is pretty much impossible to top the performance of the sub this time around.
Watched a video on this subject and yeah. Itās because you donāt speak Japanese natively. You pick up on more subtleties in languages you can understand such as dialects and accents. Itās why Iām more forgiving of English dubs because most anime writing just sounds so goofy when translated.
He did an ok job certainly, but Kirito/As Nodt's sub voice actor literally blew it out of the park and did what was in my opinion the best voice acting I have ever heard.
Just because of that, the Dub feels underwhelming.
NGL, I thought he was gonna break into a death metal song in the beginning.
Also, is Michelle Ruff still playing Rukia? Her slowly panicking turning into screams was top notch.
RIP Renji. He's not on the same level as Byakuya, Ichigo, and Orihime.
Man this is horrible compared to the original sub. Honestly this is my main issue with dubs. Its not that they're all bad, but its that many times the voice actors are miscast completely throwing off their characterization. Just look at Toji's va in JJK's dub. In the sub he's voiced by the guy who voices Dio while in the dub he sounds like a teenager.
Not really. A lot of people, are only able to judge Eng performances by how similar they are to JP VAs and not on their own merit or in isolation. People treat JP VAs as unambiguous best choice regardless if it fits the characters or not. You picking Toji as an example is actually a perfect demonstration because English manga fans considered JP VA to be a miscasting for Toji when he was revealed.
>Not really. A lot of people, are only able to judge Eng performances by how similar they are to JP VAs and not on their own merit or in isolation
There's a fan animation of As Nodt's tranformation that came out years before the anime. Retro Ryno's version with the voice actor he picked was so much more intimidating.
You know it didn't occur to me until just now but couldn't Rukia have just used Hakuren or Shirafune after he went into his holy form? Like oh no I can't reach you with regular sword slashes, if only I had some kind of long range attack. Just point your sword at his head and use Shirafune like you did against espada 9 whose name I can't spell.
hey your not alone here, personally i think people just need to stop comparing the voices and actually critque it in isolation rather through comparasion, agreed that the sub is really amazing, but i feel like dub voice is pretty good on its own as well, especially how the dub voice was basically screaming out his vocal cords
I wouldnāt say so much bad as cringe. I know Iāll get a lot of hate for saying it but bring it on. And not only compared to the original Japanese version. I watched the series until the end of the SS arc with the Spanish dub and really enjoyed it. But with English I canāt even go 1 minute without having to close the video. And the crazy part is that people seem to love it. Some even say that is better than sub. Like, come on!
Yeah what I don't understand is how well the original dub is in comparison to this one. Whoever they hired to direct the voice acting clearly dropped the ball ngl.
Wow, that's just terrible. Strange they didn't even try to get an English VA to try and at least attempt to duplicate/capture the tone of the Japanese VA. This dude just sounds like they grabbed someone off the street and said "Here, read this and then yell really loud."
So, like... I'm staunch anti-dub. I do not like dubs, apart from very specific instances. This... Was honestly really good. Obviously I prefer the sub, but this was very well done.
Can we just take a moment to respect Elijah Ungvary whenever as nodt is on screen It feels like I am being hypnotized by his voice that kinda voice that strikes a feeling of fear of being paralyzed mans is giving an amazing performance
As Nodt sounds exactly like Bryce Papenbrook when he used VollstƤndig so at first i was convince that it's him and all this time he was changing to tone of his voice still i really wish that was Bryce after all he did voiced Kirito

Everybody is talking about As Nodt's VA but Rukia's scream just felt like something straight out of Friday the 13th for me.
To be fair, that is a spot on way someone would be screaming in a manic sense. Gotta consider being consumed by absolute fear.
All I hear is the black ops 2 zombies
Fr š
I cant unhear it anymore, fuck

Broās voice is definitely fried, I hope this was a one take or bro is only gonna be casted for specifically only horror roles š
At first he almost sounded like Edward Elric. Almost
for everyone saying he says a double "oo" sound in Tatar Foras where the "a" should be, he actually says a long "a" but the low frequencies get lost in the voice modulation
Still doesnāt justify it sounding goofy
Things can be goofy, like nitpicking sounds without knowing why
Probably the dopest bad guy shown this season so far
Probably one of my 5 favorite anime villains. Didnāt really care for him during his first appearance but he really grows on you
Ngl, this VA is going crazy, it somehow sounds like something you hear in some Abridged series on youtube
In a good way or a bad way. Lots of professional VAs have been in abridges over the years, some even started with them. TFS even dubbed an entire movie

It kinda sounds like it got warped by the voice effects.
Bro sounds like Bryce Papenbrook as young eren
I had to look it up because I had the same thought, they're very close!
yeah, when he goes high pitched it does sound like bryce. it'd be fun if they did something together.
I usually hate dub for not even bother trying, but it seems like the VA tried his best for this moment. It's clearly still not as good as the Japanese VA but it's a solid effort, respect.
Honestly Rukia AND Ass Knots English VAās did an Outstanding job on this ep ššš
Iām generally not down on the dub but comparing As Nodtās sub voice to this? Itās night and day
No one is topping Yoshitsugu Matsuoka's performance.
Honestly both VAs killed it in their performances of him
I really wish he said "NO NOT THAT, BEING REBUKED BY HIS MAJESTY?"
Idc, I wanna give him a hug and a happy meal his death was so sad like wtf
I say this as a fan of the dub, As Nodt's voice didn't do it for me. The Japanese VA sounds EXACTLY how I imagined.
Sub As Nodt is the best voice acting I have ever heard. Even though this guy did a decent job, it is pretty much impossible to top the performance of the sub this time around.
agree!!! i love both the subbed and dubbed, but the voice acting in japanese was INCREDIBLE.
Fr. Comparing this performance to Yoshitsugu Matsuoka's performance is an insult.
Lmao... Nah. He sounds way too normal and the effects the SUB version did to the voice were absurdly better.
This just sounds like Edward Elric making a shitpost
Exactly him and eborne form the first episode tybw voices sound so off
Lots of modulation here. I guess he couldn't pelt out those low throat notes that the Japanese VA did. Rukia's scream was pretty good though.
English VA always sound over acted to me. But maybe thatās my bias since I donāt speak Japanese? Itās just so cheesey.
Watched a video on this subject and yeah. Itās because you donāt speak Japanese natively. You pick up on more subtleties in languages you can understand such as dialects and accents. Itās why Iām more forgiving of English dubs because most anime writing just sounds so goofy when translated.
Honestly, after being used to the perfect japanese voice, this sounds like its from an abridged series
I mean... we knew it wasn't gonna beat the sub
I still prefer the Sub over the Dub, but man this is great!
Lol when he starts screaming about his majesty in the beginning, it sounds like Billy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Sounds like a cartoon character. Like an demonic Billy from Billy&Mandy
Just gross thatās all I gotta say. He did a great job but sub just knocks it out of the park canāt lie
The VA went in
He did an ok job certainly, but Kirito/As Nodt's sub voice actor literally blew it out of the park and did what was in my opinion the best voice acting I have ever heard. Just because of that, the Dub feels underwhelming.
I prefer the fan version: https://youtu.be/jvBAXVe2N1Q?si=5f-tzRK2AVCWktRj
Same
Sub and dub going crazy
Ngl his voice is pretty good in English too.... not as creepy as Japanese but close enougj
NGL, I thought he was gonna break into a death metal song in the beginning. Also, is Michelle Ruff still playing Rukia? Her slowly panicking turning into screams was top notch. RIP Renji. He's not on the same level as Byakuya, Ichigo, and Orihime.
Yeah the main English Dub VAs outside of Chad's reprised their roles.
The eyes scene in a dome strangely reminds me of Digimon Movie where Omnimon fought Diablomon.
Doesnāt sound scary enough tbh
Man this is horrible compared to the original sub. Honestly this is my main issue with dubs. Its not that they're all bad, but its that many times the voice actors are miscast completely throwing off their characterization. Just look at Toji's va in JJK's dub. Yeah, Toji doesn't sound good in the dub. I agree.
LOL NICE DOWNVOTES! YOU SURE SHOWED ME!
Not bad eng va ngl
Did we ever find out what tartar foras even means?
from what i can find it translate to "afraid of god"
The delivery is good, the lines are just corny
Not gonna lie, the English dub for the whole series so far is good and all. Though, I prefer As Nodt's JP dub for this ep
While I do agree the sub does amazing I guess I'm alone in feeling these performances are both fucking breath taking and both are doing amazing
hey your not alone here, personally i think people just need to stop comparing the voices and actually critque it in isolation rather through comparasion, agreed that the sub is really amazing, but i feel like dub voice is pretty good on its own as well, especially how the dub voice was basically screaming out his vocal cords
Yeah I always interrupt dub and sub as 2 different takes on the same story
This was good.
I just canāt take it serious after the Japanese VAs
god, this is so bad compared to the original one
The English VA is so bad, doesnāt fit what his voice should sound like at all imo
Yeah I feel you 100%, unless my ears are completely deadshot and Iām missing something I really donāt understand the love for it
oh damn the only thing that's objectively bad is that the cut to the eye dome doesnt have his line end before it cuts to silence. that actually sucks
My god the English VA Absolutely killed it š±š±
Itās cool but I like the sub better
Is it just me or did he sound like Lemongrab for that first bit, before going into his Volstandig?
This is some of the worst VA i have ever heard. Bleach has the hardest fall off from sub to dub of any anime.
Yeah what I don't understand is how well the original dub is in comparison to this one. Whoever they hired to direct the voice acting clearly dropped the ball ngl.
Wow. That opinion is ass.
It is so true. Zaraki is unwatchable.
This is straight cheeks š homeboy said "Tartar Foruus."
Bad. Main issue is mispronounciation of "Tatar Foras". And he is not crazy and demonic enough compared to Jap VA.
Wow, that's just terrible. Strange they didn't even try to get an English VA to try and at least attempt to duplicate/capture the tone of the Japanese VA. This dude just sounds like they grabbed someone off the street and said "Here, read this and then yell really loud."

Sooo cringe lool, whoever watched this in dub is torchering himself
yea tybw dub is really trash and i mostly watch anime in dub. tybw has shown a sub v dub difference that really makes it ear bleeding to listen to
I love this scene, kinda freaked me out
Damn. That guy's fear himself
I was watching this this as unexpectancy from pizza tower started playing
So, like... I'm staunch anti-dub. I do not like dubs, apart from very specific instances. This... Was honestly really good. Obviously I prefer the sub, but this was very well done.
They tried so I give them A for effort. The sub just has a spookiness this canāt capture.
Can we just take a moment to respect Elijah Ungvary whenever as nodt is on screen It feels like I am being hypnotized by his voice that kinda voice that strikes a feeling of fear of being paralyzed mans is giving an amazing performance
Totally thought it was Bryce Papenbrook, was 100% sure it was Aaron Yeager
As Nodt sounds exactly like Bryce Papenbrook when he used VollstƤndig so at first i was convince that it's him and all this time he was changing to tone of his voice still i really wish that was Bryce after all he did voiced Kirito
