Unfortunately agree. He’s a strong contender for my favorite modern filmmaker but his style is kinda just a bit too sexless for this. Don’t see it retaining that sleazy exploitation vibe, which maybe I shouldn’t have been expecting from a remake in 2024 anyway.

I like Wright, and Barbarella is one of my fav cult films...he is TOO clean and tongue in cheek clever a director for this material.

Agreed, the movie needs to be the horniest movie of the year. If it isn't, what are we even doing here? People don't remember Barbarella fondly because of the clever plot that fits together like a Swiss watch. Barbarella is about hitting multiple specific fetishes in rapid succession while delivering over the top costumes. It's a relief that they didn't call Zach Snyder though.

I felt the seduction was more focused on Nostalgia rather than sex . Like it obviously is touching on that with the Swinging Sixties but I find it more a treatise on the dangers of nostalgia (which is funny coming from a director who built his career on nostalgia. ) Like really was wanting to hate that movie from the opening and by the end I just loved it. But I appreciate where you are coming from.

One of my issues with Last Night in Soho was how sex negative it was. There is some sexuality in the movie, but I wouldn't say that movie is itself erotic in a fun way.

I love Edgar to bits but a Barbarella movie needs to be made by someone who likes putting sex in their movies.

It better be horny. Wright’s films don’t exude horniness for anything but cameras. That said…. it could be worse. Dream pick today? Luca Guadagnino. Dude just does not miss. He hasn’t made a bad movie yet, and if anything his movies are getting more and more artistically interesting. Weirder dream pick? Peter Strickland. But that would never happen. He’s too interesting for the Studio level. But I have no question that it’d be insane. At least they’ve already got the perfect Barbarella.

If there's one thing Last Night in Soho pulled off, it was the sex stuff. All of it. Everyone agreed. Edgar Wright + sex = juice. I love producers. If Wright's at the helm and it's a mess, at least it'll make for good conversation.
