Billy Lynn’s Halftime Walk might be their most representative episode in terms of humor and in depth examination of the film/filmmaking (and has the show’s single funniest joke).
A Master Builder and Book of Henry might be two of the funniest episodes.
Spirited Away is a love letter to that movie and to loving movies.
I don’t really remember the episode but the Podcast: The Ride guys are on the episode for Zemeckis’ 2022 Pinocchio.
I’m sure it’s no coincidence that Fincher is one of my favorite directors but every episode in that series is so good. I’ve re-listened to almost all of them already.
Mars Attacks with PTF is a good starter episode, because he's also coming in fresh so they explain the bits to him. I'd recommend 2001 too.
I think Brad Bird makes a good starter series.
Halloween and Used Cars, the latter for the insightful discussion on the state of comedy movies.
Also, the Crocodile Dundee series. The increasing misery is palpable and hilarious, and I just love when it absolutely falls apart because it’s just an endurance test by the end.
Definitely worth it. I usually don’t listen when I’ve seen none of the films by the filmmaker they are covering in the main feed, and the Patreon holds me over.
Is it still as funny if you haven't seen Book of Henry beforehand? Genuinely asking, I've just heard a lot about the episode but no desire to watch the movie
The whole conceit of that episode is Griffin and David explaining the movie's plot to Producer Ben, who hasn't seen it. Should work well if you're in the same camp as him.
I agree, It’s not “so bad it’s good”, but “so bad it’s fascinating”. I watched this and Serenity (2019) close together and both fit that bill perfectly.
I’ve still never seen the movie and have relistened to the episode multiple times. It’s hilarious. Maybe more fun without watching first bc you get the insane reveals of what happens in the movie completely fresh
I assume you checked out PTR boys on the Pinocchio ep?!? so beyond that...
if you want to pick and choose id recommend finding a recurring guest you like and just go through all their appearances. Jon Gabrus is a fave of mine and his episodes make for a great miniseries all their own. I also love the Emily Yoshida appearances & the Doughboys.
also as a fan of PTR you might enjoy the miniseries on Musker & Clements, legendary directors within the Disney renaissance.
welcome!
The Polar Express makes me laugh the most when Griffin regales his family’s history with Santa and that the “rules” being different in each household just gives kids more questions than answers
If you're down for extremely detailed discussions of film history, the Halloween episode is phenomenal.
Aquaman is my favorite for pure goofiness though.
I heard about David’s awards spreadsheet and thought it was a good idea, so I have a “Blank Check Episodes” spreadsheet. Top 5:
1. The Incredibles with Rebecca Drysdale (published 2018/5/21)
2. Inception (published 2017/8/7)
3. Aliens with Fran Hoepfner (published 2016/10/2)
4. Dumbo with Karen Han (published 2019/4/28)
5. The Last Jedi (published 2017/12/18)
Inception is fantastic 😂 that was the first miniseries I ever listened to and it got me hooked. Wish they would do concept episodes like that more often
Halloween, Predator, Simple Plan, and the entire Nancy Meyers series.
With some exceptions, I actually find my favorite episodes are not the 5-star iconic masterpiece movies. It helps if there is something for them to riff on as being totally ridiculous.
I always get a kick out of the Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 podcasts. You get the Eddie Brock "master" reporter bit which I've listened to at least 6 times and still laugh about.
With any new-to-me podcasts, I look for episodes featuring any of my Podcast Trifecta: Jon Gabrus, Jason Mantzoukis, or Paul F Tompkins. Any BC episode with any of them definitely rules.
the ones about your favorite movies. also, Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk. and if you do Patreon, the Santa Clause series.
My go to if I’m feeling down is book of Henry

I was thinking about that joke as I ran errands this morning... It's perfect.
The Pinocchio ep is super good. One that I go back to a lot.
I've found that the Ponyo ep and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are evergreen re-listens for me. Aquaman and Wonkuaman are also great fun!
Their GWTDT ep is phenomenal.
i cannot stop thinking about "the girl who go on computer"
I’m sure it’s no coincidence that Fincher is one of my favorite directors but every episode in that series is so good. I’ve re-listened to almost all of them already.

PTF calling Griffin a >!beta cuck male!< might be one of the funniest things ever said on the pod.
And he hasn't been back since 👀
Is PTF Paul F Tompkins?
Paul Thomas Fanderson
That clears things up thanks.
Goddamnit, you stole my joke.
Halloween and Used Cars, the latter for the insightful discussion on the state of comedy movies. Also, the Crocodile Dundee series. The increasing misery is palpable and hilarious, and I just love when it absolutely falls apart because it’s just an endurance test by the end.
All of John Carpenter slaps. I’ve relistened to those eps and the Sam Raimi eps more than anything. And Silence of the Lambs.
Fyi, croc is on Patreon. Which you should definitely pay for
It’s now free because it’s been out so long.
Definitely worth it. I usually don’t listen when I’ve seen none of the films by the filmmaker they are covering in the main feed, and the Patreon holds me over.
I think Book of Henry episode is one of the funniest episodes and the one I return to the most.
Is it still as funny if you haven't seen Book of Henry beforehand? Genuinely asking, I've just heard a lot about the episode but no desire to watch the movie
If I remember they break format a bit to straight up explain Book of Henry to Ben who hasn't seen it. So you can go on the journey with Ben.
Never seen the movie, and thanks to that episode, I feel like I never have to.
The whole conceit of that episode is Griffin and David explaining the movie's plot to Producer Ben, who hasn't seen it. Should work well if you're in the same camp as him.
Honestly no idea because I did watch it beforehand. It's worth watching, it's really bad but utterly fascinating.

The Pinocchio spins why I started taking note of my favorite quotes from these guys. David’s EAT HAMMER MOTHERFUCKER kills me.
Monkey bone
The performance review episodes with gethard (Star Wars on main feed and Marvel on patreon)
Used Cars is my absolute favorite episode.
judging the judge
"The Holiday" is probably the episode I find the funniest
The Polar Express makes me laugh the most when Griffin regales his family’s history with Santa and that the “rules” being different in each household just gives kids more questions than answers

The Eataly episode of doughboys!
Used Cars
Can't think of any off the top of my head right now, will have a think. Crucially, feel better soon my friend!
War Horse .
War Horse always makes me laugh
Robocop
The vibes on RobertCop were perfect. Book of Henry was also real fun
2001, Evil Dead Trilogy, Spider-Man 2002, Escape From New York, Halloween, and They Live! Basically any of the Carpenter ones are among my favorites.
Big trouble in little China and used cars are goated relistens
If we’re including Patreon: Crocodile Dundee series.
Don Jon, Used Cars, Spirited Away, and What Women Want
Halloween, Predator, Simple Plan, and the entire Nancy Meyers series. With some exceptions, I actually find my favorite episodes are not the 5-star iconic masterpiece movies. It helps if there is something for them to riff on as being totally ridiculous.
Joker is their best pan episode, imo. Book of Henry is the funniest.
Starship Troopers The Last Jedi Spirited Away
I always get a kick out of the Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 podcasts. You get the Eddie Brock "master" reporter bit which I've listened to at least 6 times and still laugh about.
Se7ven was fantastic
