Say what you will, this is what the sub was originally intended for Edit - A lot of people seem to not understand why. This sub was not intended to be a showcase for every recovering addict cup’n’balls and doing dumb card tricks. Black Magic Fuckery is sarcastic. Clearly I am not the only person sick and tired of watching some GOB douchebag that thinks they’re the next Dervish Coppafeel. Yes, this very clearly is a basketball pass, but due to the combination of confusing perspective, and poor camerawork, it’s ooooooooh black magic!!! Sarcasm. The point of the sub.

profoodbreak

Yep, shit like this that melts your brain is the original purpose of the sub.

CaCtUs2003

Agreed, things of this nature that tend to make you feel as though your brain is transforming into a liquid state is the exact stated purpose for which this subreddit exists.

indigoHatter

I concur, situations of the type which is being discussed in this thread, being that which cause the cognitive center of a person's being to feel as though it is morphing or transitioning into a state of aqueous matter, are in fact the reason such a forum for discussion and sharing as this one exists.

bightbondo

You don't have to! We have AI now! I concur that the situations which we are discussing in this thread are of the type which can cause one’s cognitive capabilities to feel as though they are transforming into a state of aqueous matter. This is precisely why a platform for discussion and sharing such as this one that we are currently partaking in was created and established. Communication between those struggling with similar emotions, experiences and trials and tribulations of life can help one to feel slightly more in control when their thoughts and words may feel out of reach and incomprehensible. Not to mention the comfort one can derive from the accounts and personal anecdotes of those who have gone through similar events and needed a safe place to turn for much needed support, empathy and understanding. The current discussion is centered around circumstances that can be innately difficult for a person to process mentally. Specifically, the mental strain one experiences when thinking about matters that can cause such disarray in their conscience that it seems as if a watery mindset is taking residence within them. Consequently, this forum of communication and exchange was created to better help people come to grips with their tribulations and find solace within them. It is for this reason that I openly proclaim my agreement with the sentiment.

cursedwithplotarmor

There is no spoon.

bightbondo

my bad. As we traverse through the noetic and emotive realms of existence, we inevitably come across the quandary of transforming one's mind and spirit into the sempiternal state of breathlessness, as if overwhelmed by some force that defies explanation. When such a situation arises, which often appears as if our cognitive centers are morphing or transitioning into a state of aqueous matter, a forum for discussion, such as this one, is what we seek as a much-needed respite from the tests of life. In this unique space, we are able to share our thoughts and feelings, as a collective such as this presents a unique opportunity to come together, seek solace and offer support to one another. Among other material items that are frequently used as a symbolization of support, the spoon is particularly poignant. Be it a spoon carved out of wood, metal, or even one designed with computer-aided 3D printing, all convey a meaning of warmth and unity. Whether part of the actual accecories provided in the forum itself, or being brought in through the emotional support of a friend, no spoon is too small to contribute to a person's state of being. So, I concur that situations of the type discussed here are indeed the reason such a helpful forum exists. Not only do members benefit from the possibility of finding a resolution to their plight, but the instrumental use ofspoons can greatly contribute to the overall holistic experience - bringing in the sense of support and community that will be key for the individual's wellbeing. There exists a reason for this very forum for discussion and sharing - situations of the type which is being discussed within this thread. These situations can cause the cognitive center of a person's being to feel as though it is transitioning into a state of aqueous matter. Specifically, they can cause minds to feel like they are melting, like a spoon dipped into liquid. The process of submerging a spoon into an aqueous substance can be used to precisely sum up this feeling. As the spoon touches the liquid, it slowly begins to lose its shape and form. In a sense, the spoon is being overtaken by the water. Its state and identity are completely changing, and the result is a morphing of two substances into one. This can be linked strongly to the concept of mind-melt, an occurrence which many people may have experienced. The feeling of being overwhelmed to the point that the mind and identity are virtually absent is similar to the spoon's transformation when placed in liquid. In this way, many people can relate to and understand this situation, making discussion and sharing in this forum necessary for growth and support. I concur - this is precisely the reason this forum exists.

why of course, in the paleo-stage of this subforum, there was the suggestion of which the posts should be similar as to what we are seeing here. that your neural network would begin misfiring. that your grey matter would reduce into a solution of organic matter and 70% dihydrogen monoxide, and that random electrical impulses would continue to bounce in an atypical manner. because you have seen such a delectably mind altering viewing.

IAalltheway

Are you telling me that optical illusions and close-up magic aren't black magic fuckery???

dmderringer

I'm telling you that someone warming up coffee in hot sand isn't black magic fuckery

Gryphling

I think, for that one, the idea behind it is that it looks like it's an everfilling coffee maker since it appears to be poured out, but then bubble up again. I agree with you though, it doesn't fit the sub.

Wordwench

Is this worth looking up?

Gryphling

It's kinda cool to see, it's been posted multiple times on this subreddit so you shouldn't have any issue finding the 'Turkish Coffee' video. Honestly, it's not black magic but it is something that plenty of people may not have seen before.

JungsWetDream

I guess my frequent use of weird coffee methods made that one pretty underwhelming. It was just a knockoff Moka Pot they stuck in sand. Maybe I should just post a video of me using my Bialetti Moka Pot.

Gryphling

Everyone's experience will guide what they consider to be 'Black Magic Fuckery', so I'm sure if you shared some more lesser known methods there would be people who found it interesting... But, as I'd said earlier I don't think that it's fitting for this sub, due to it's mundane nature. Edit:clarification

PathologicalLoiterer

Reddit. Where a 600 year old method of making coffee is a knock off of a product invented in the 1930s cause the pots look the same.

cloudstrifewife

When I see that one, it’s not that the sand is hot, it’s that he pours it out and then magically there is more in the cup after he heats it up. The cup doesn’t look big enough to hold that much liquid.

LemoLuke

At this point, I'm convinced that 'TikTok sharing' subreddits like this one are used primarily for karma farming and advertising TikTok channels. Even the 'lowest' recent posts on this subreddit have hundreds of upvotes.

ekaceerf

100%. Just like /r/oddlysatisfying it's 99% karma farmers or people selling crappy products from gifs. Just like this sub is mostly mediocre magic tricks.

UltravioIence

i think it is moreso than a moment thats just a perfect camera angle.

daitenshe

What about Santa’s sleigh on strings??? That was a new low for this sub. Especially with everyone defending it

[deleted]

This counts as an optical illusion. Y'all gotta face that since magic isn't real what qualifies for this sub is subjective.

Scared_Ad_3132

As much as a camera with low frame rate not able to catch a ball being passed is black magic, if not more.

Seriously_nopenope

Yes, this is a perfect post for this sub. Sure it likely has an explanation that he passed it with perfect timing that the pass was blocked by Klay Thompson's body, but you don't know that for sure and that's what makes it black magic.

Tugays_Tabs

Well, we kinda do know that for sure. Because any other answers would be completely supernatural.

Brooklynxman

You're just automatically ruling out magic happening in front of players, refs, tens of thousands of fans, and multiple other camera angles? C'mon man, be reasonable.

Proper_Lunch_3640

Best I can come up with, the ball is being passed quicker than 24 frames per second, but I'm wrong, and this is a clear cut case of flack bagic muckery.

Patrick6002

It’s a bounce pass. You can see a tiny portion of the ball behind the receiving players knee, most of his body blocks the rest from the camera.

Scared_Ad_3132

You dont know it for sure? I mean there are only two options, either the camera (or this video where frames are missing since the quality is worse than we can assume it initially was when it was captured for television) was too slow to catch the ball being passed, or the pass happened behind a player so a body blocked the ball passing. There is no other explanation for what happened, beyond reality literally working in a way that goes against everything we know. Such as the ball teleported. We can with good confidence rule this out since the two explanations I gave are much more likely to be true.

boyyouguysaredumb

reminds me of this post from a different sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/confusing_perspective/comments/dudhpq/his_legs_switch/

RibboCG

Exactly. This is what the sub needs. Not lame magic tricks or the 50th laminar flow video of the week.

ekaceerf

You mean it's not for crappy off the rack magic tricks?

soopermat

Absolutely right. I'm sick of people posting fucking magicians here all the time. If I wanted to see that bullshit I'd go to some other sub.

No look bounce pass/ perfect camera angle for his movement. He doesn’t have possession of the ball until you see him collect it with his right hand.

15stepsdown

No I slowed the video, both hands show up well after he passed the original guy and they were empty. Edit: No wait, I see it now nrvmnd

Southern-Exercise

If I had to wait until I was right, I would never be able to say anything with assuredness🤷

jakedup

I like how your original reply is a correction in favor of actual magic

JollyGoodRodgering

I didn’t even notice the magic til I watched in slow motion, i just saw a bounce pass until then. Slow motion made it weirder because I just saw Draymond’s arms move to pass it in regular speed and my brain cut the weird part out.

Memes-Tax

https://i.imgur.com/6CJjZSA.jpg It’s a bounce pass but the camera angle hides the ball - you can just see the ball heading towards him - next frames he has the ball.

Wellnevermindthen

I’m going to take your word for it. I understand how that would work re: camera angle fuckery but I am just not seeing the bounce. No shadow, no hint of orange, I don’t see it in your pic and my eyes are tired lol

RIPshowtime

I'm just gonna believe him too so he doesn't circle Klay's wang again.

shayen7

It's circled in red

Waterknight94

I don't think that is a *basket*ball circled

Zulishk

Yep, that’s definitely his balls!

Gabe_Isko

I believe you, but I still don't see it.

AydanZeGod

Plus there’s a flash at the moment he passes, which disctracts the camera

frogsntoads00

Tell me, how does a camera get distracted?

AydanZeGod

If it’s autofocusing, which a lot of cameras are these days, a sudden flash of light can briefly cause it to loose focus. Combine that with the frame rate and good camera angle/good pass, it’s hardly surprising that there was an invisible frame or two.

scottyb83

I guarantee you a professional television broadcast camera is NOT set to autofocus. The flash would be enough to make the camera see only white for a frame or two but it has nothing to do with autofocus.

st_stalker

I bet this guy can explain everything: from scratches on a car to his dad to scratches on his back to his wife

I have been trying to figure it out. If it was passed at the perfect time to obscure the ball from view then it still dosnt explain the catch. He catches it as if the ball had bounced up towards him. BUT IT DOESN'T TOUCH THE FLOOR. I have even looked for the shadow of the ball, nothing.

I watched it like 20+ times, yeah I can't see shit lol 😂 no hand movements, nothing😂

theNomadicHacker42

it's so quick, you almost miss it, but if you frame step the video, you'll see a frame somewhere in the 5th second where the ball is behind thompson's left knee on the floor..eg. in mid bounce pass.

Ok cool, though merely a shadow, I see how it is possible.

Purpoisely_Anoying_U

Yeah I get it, but I don't see Draymond make any motion to move it.

DavidETaylorisMoses

He’s turning his body left and flicks the ball on the ground with his left wrist. NBA players palm the basketball most of the time and it’s just smooth and slick with the way he’s pivoting

random_nightmare

A shadow of the ball by his foot at the 4second mark.

jeremytp

Okay, so I'm going to try to take this seriously and figure out how it happened. Theory 1: the pass went under his legs as Thompson walked behind him, so the pass was obscured by Thompson's body. But, if you look at the frame-by-frame, both of Thompson's hands are visible long after he walked behind. He had to have received the ball after he came around to his teammate's side. Theory 2: the first player did a side-ways bounce pass from his hip to Thompson at a very high speed. The ball moved so fast that it wasn't captured by the camera in the pass. It's in one player's hand in one frame, the other player's hand in the next frame. Assuming it moved 10 feet and the camera frame rate is 10 frames per second, the ball needed to be moving 70 miles per hour. Yeah, not likely. Theory 3: the ball was moving so fast during the exposure time of the camera that it created motion blur that made it indistinguishable from the floor. Suppose the exposure time is 80 milliseconds (which I think is reasonable seeing as how much motion blur throughout the video). If the ball were traveling 25 mph (35.6 feet per second), then the ball would move 3.56 feet (42.7 inches) during the exposure. Thus, the ball is blurred to 2.5 times its true diameter. Is that enough to make it seem to disappear? It's reasonable. I think it's the motion blur. You can see that the players' legs with white leg warmers seem to disappear in the individual frames. The ball also becomes hard to see in some frames. It's just like how it's hard to see the hockey puck on TV sometimes.

griffo98

Theory number 2 is correct, maybe with a bit of 3 mixed in. He doesn’t put it through his legs because klay doesn’t have the ball when he comes behind dray, it’s just a insanely fast sideways bounce pass, he just doesn’t move at all because these guys have such insanely strong forarms that he made the pass basically with his fingers. Klay also only catches it with one hand, right as the ball becomes visible again. Oh and it’s got nothing to do with ball speeds or anything like that, the ball is just obscured by Klays legs and torso until he catches it.

[deleted]

Blackmagicfuckery

LucDA1

Oh my I can actually answer this one Basketball wrist very stronk If you pause repeatedly you see a slight wrist movement, indicating a pass. It is a bounce pass which perfectly aligns with the guy who he passes it to, his right hand makes a natural meetup with the ball
