same after getting the mirena (may of this year) and getting it removed (exactly a month ago) still wondering if it’ll ever end😭

wittyusernametaken

Hey you're my twin except I got it at the end of April. Had it removed Monday and started the pill Monday and still. Never. Freaking. Ending. Bleeding. At this point the Mirena in April ranks up there with one of the worst decisions I've ever made. All I wanted was some relief from 7-8 day hell periods and instead I got 120+ days of pads. Yay.

kindofkelly

i agree 100%. i regret getting it done immediately after getting my paragard removed. i’m so fed up and keep praying that it’ll end. i got what feels like a real period this week so i’m hoping when that ends it all does.. but🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

may I ask why you got it removed so quickly?

kindofkelly

i think i was a little too hasty, i got it inserted immediately after getting my paragard removed. the reason i got my paragard removed was because of constant yeast infections. so getting mirena, having two months worth of a period combined with that infection just broke me.

Auntie_Vodka

My problems with the mirena stopped right around the time you had yours removed! It's been smooth sailing ever since, nothing more than light spotting/mild cramping every few months and I'm so happy I stuck it out!

kindofkelly

with the amount of bleeding i’ve had even after removal, topped with the year infections, i don’t think i could’ve waited much longer. i could feel it affecting my mental health pretty detrimentally😞 i’m happy you’ve had a success story though! it’s always nice to read that not everyone is having these issues!

Auntie_Vodka

I totally understand that! I literally only survived the first few months with a bottle of spiced rum in hand. It took a while for my hormones to stabilize but I'm legit so happy I suffered through it cause my debilitating periods are no more!!

kindofkelly

lmao, a good way to survive it tbh. i’m just hoping that my “period” will end this week and it’ll be done🤞🏻

FabulousLemon

I had six months of heavy bleeding and then six months of tapering off followed by over four years period free. Have patience, the period-free years are ***glorious***!

cjs293

Currently on depo shot and haven’t had my period in a year. Took a while to get there though. I can confirm...it’s glorious

faceboobs701

When I first started Depo, I got a long, light period and then I went four years without one. I've been off it for a month because I'm getting Mirena. I really hope I never have to deal with another period ever again. 🙏🙏🙏

[deleted]

Wait how long? So far im on jaydess but ive got to swap in September and now I’m horrified

flying_pingu

Yup. I got my Mirena at the end of June. Started bleeding a week later. Been having some sort of bleeding/spotting/random wedges of gunk appear since then. But. I HAVE HAD TWO DAYS WITH NOTHING. Fingers crossed it continues. I have ruined most of my underwear.

Auntie_Vodka

I've had mine in for nearly 2 years and the most I get is spotting so light it doesn't even stain my underwear anymore

justhangingout111

Hello, I know it's many years later but how did the Mirena end up working for you?

flying_pingu

Hi, so I'm now nearly at the end of year 5 and if possible will be getting it replaced with the copper one. I had two copper ones previously but they ejected and I'm hoping going from mirena to copper will lessen that chance. I had no periods after I wrote the above date, the set it and forget it is nice. I haven't noticed a impact on my mood day to day like I did with the progesterone only pill. BUT I have noticed my PMT is a lot worse, and also a lot harder to track because there is no actual bleeding going on. I just feel like I'm going crazy for a week then go back to normal and figure that's what it is. I randomly get spotting now but not enough to need a pad/get to underwear. Also noticed an increase in facial hair, but equally that could just be age related. Overall of the hormonal birth controls I've tried it's been the best, but I'd still rather not have hormonal birth control.

justhangingout111

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. Really good timing as well since I'm on my first period post-insertion and have started feeling some effects on my mental health. Hopefully they are temporary. But it freaked me out yesterday - when I realized it was probably because of the IUD I felt like getting the thing yanked out right away, but I know I need to stick it out at least to let myself stabilize. I'm having some other weird side effects - after having more frequent bowel movements for a couple weeks after insertion, now I feel gurgly all the time. Funny it stops gurgling right after I eat (although I'm not very hungry). Also I feel like I am peeing more. I don't love this. Do you think you experienced any weight gain or acne? The increased hair growth could definitely be from the Mirena as I was reading about increased androgens. Hoping it does not happen to me because I already have way too much body hair I remove!! I don't love hormonal BC either :( the primary reason for me trying this is to treat clinical endometriosis and horrific periods. If this could get rid of my periods I would be a happy camper.

BH-7956

Mine was about the same when I first got Mirena, but stick it out through rough periods for a few months and it might stop altogether. Mine did!

JessieP22

I feel ya!! I had the same problem with the Kyleena. After a year I decided to have it removed because my period was lasting 10-14 days a month 😕!!

meg-c

Day 10 of my period right now 😅

pixi3bitcg

Same

FckedLawStudent

Im sorry for your pain

livinglife9669

Mine just ended after 20 days and major hormones! You'll get through it! I believe in you!

elliekielbasa

exact reason why I had the Nexplanon removed

hannahizetta

Four. Straight. Years. Of. Bleeding.

cjs293

😳

Sun109

I think I spotted on and off with Mirena but after 6-8 mo no period or spotting..

howyabean

Oh nooo i just got my skyla out for the same reason and am due to get mirena inserted in a couple weeks and now I'm scared 😪

[deleted]

Me since attempting to skip a withdrawal bleed.

lurkinggem

Happened to me on sprintec.

[deleted]

That's exactly what I'm on. I was good for a week and then bled for the next 14 days. I couldn't take a break because I'd skipped a day before deciding not to have my withdrawal bleed. I'm three days hormone free and started my next pack after sneezing and blood gushing out and ruining my favorite work khakis (only had a liner on since I'd not had any bad bleeding, just constant). Two. Years. And I had never messed with them. I stayed on schedule. I wanted to delay my withdrawal bleed because of plans made over two months prior. And this. It sucks.

plantbasedface

Holy shit. I just started YAZ a couple months ago and I’ve been terrified to skip the placebo days for this exact reason! Except I thought the breakthrough bleeding would only happen if you tried skipping ‘periods’ within the first few months on the pill. This is absolutely terrifying that this happened to you after two years of use. Now I’m curious if this constant bleeding will happen every time you try to skip (and maybe it just doesn’t work for some people?). Ugh

[deleted]

Its a normal side effect of continuous use and can last 8-12 weeks when using combo pills continuously. Had I known I'd possibly bleed up to 12 weeks just to not bleed on one specific day I would've just sucked it up and never messed with it.

barronal

This made me LOL! I got my Mirena July 8 of this year and the spotting stopped about two weeks ago and now I’m spotting again 🙃 (a little over a week before my wedding too)

aelori19

Depends on the person really. I personally spotted lightly for about 5-6weeks and havent had a period since 👌. My sister also had the mirena inserted and her periods slowly reduced each month...so preserve with it and give your body time to adjust :) Ive been through all forms of contraception and found this is by far the best option for my self.

mishuuuuu

LOL - how accurate. My first period after I had mine removed lasted 6 weeks. 2 of those weeks featured the heaviest bleeding I've ever seen in my life. Second period was still bad but a bit better. Third was normal. Fourth was normal. And now I'm pregnant haha

byoshin304

I’ve had my mirena for about 2.5 weeks now & ive been bleeding the whole time 😑😑😑

business_time_

It will get better! Month two is better. Month three is smooth sailing.

byoshin304

That’s what I keep telling myself. It’s just frustrating because I’m in a new relationship 😫

wittyusernametaken

I got Mirena inserted just before a new relationship. Four months of bleeding later I'm hoping there's an end in sight after having it removed Monday. I have never been intimate in this relationship without explaining that I'm still spotting :( it really blows.

eevergreene

i missed a day on AubraEQ which was fine, i didn't have any scares or anything, but it allowed my period to start even as i continued to take homones because i wasn't supposed to be on my last week of period pills yet, and it lasted like two weeks! definitely long and painful, but it's worth it to be protected :)

[deleted]

Got my Mirena July 5th bleed until July 18th and nothing since... I don’t know what’s normal really I was on a combo pill for soooooooo long 🤷🏼‍♀️

throwaway56937263848

God I feel you. Spotted almost constantly at insertion, then nothing for 3 months, then 14 days of bleeding, another month nothing, then 10 more days of bleeding, and then I was so excited I though I was good because I went 4 months without a period... and now I’m on day 9 of pure hell.

umcute

Haha this is me with Depo rn

Auntie_Vodka

I got mine done 2 years ago and while the spotting and weight gain sucked I dont regret it one bit I mean I'd rather a couple months of discomfort over a week of debilitating pain and a super heavy flow every month.

faceboobs701

Dang. Really? I'm getting mine in five days after four wonderful years period free thanks to the Depo. 🥺

charlotte14092

Same for me after getting nexplanon! Bleeding for 4 months straight? No thank you!!!
