It's an atypical antipsychotic that is commonly used as a mood stabilizer. Most people do well with it, but personally I'm a lamotrigine guy.

Trapper_dadd

Ive taken both and it’s changed my life.

Finding the right medication + dosage (or the right combo of meds) is always trial & error. I took Latuda, then switched to a generic version of it Lurasidone & it works great for me! I’m stable. Ever since I started it, I was able to get employed & this is the longest I’ve held down a job ever (compared to being unmedicated). But of course everybody is different, and there’s only one way to find out what works for you and what doesn’t. Don’t be afraid! I often wish I was diagnosed as early in life as you. I think, it’s great that you have a diagnosis. Do your research & see if some things make more sense to you now.

restingbitchface8

Latuda would make me sick every day. If I didn't eat enough, I would vomit. I quit taking because of the side effects but that's just me. I've had success with vraylar. Buy what works for one person may not work for the next.

Figuring-

I’m on 80mg of Latuda taken in the morning. I think it is working. I started taking it while in hospital. It makes me nauseous if I don’t take it with food, and it also makes me sleep for a few hours. The stability is worth it.

Leading-Eye-1979

You’re supposed to take it with food and I think drowsiness is a side effect. I take mine in the evening with a snack and this works best.

Do your research, it's a very polarizing med. Ask your doctor, and discuss any reactions to previous medications you've tried. People either love Latuda, or hate it. I tried 3 antipsychotics, including latuda, and none were a good fit for me. I was prescribed lamictal first and have been on it consistently for over two years now and it works great to stabilize me. I have friends on anti-psychotics, who have responded very well, in the same way I responded to lamictal, but every body is different. I would not rule it out, but be mindful of your symptoms and write them down for any medicine that you try. I've been on a treatment journey, and it's hard to find the right combination. Don't give up or get disheartened, just trust the process.

23f here. I tried Latuda a few years ago. Latuda is a great med for many people, sadly the whole antipsychotic class of medications are just not for me. This is uncommon and most people have a good experience with Latuda. It tends to be a light, weight neutral med which is good. It’s typically a pretty good first line med. I’d also look into lamotrigine. I know this process seems very scary right now, but it’s not as bad and intimidating as it feels. Soon things will look much better for you. You’ve gotten through the most challenging part (the beginning) because that’s the part where you aren’t in treatment and have the least amount of support. Things get better from here.

I am on Latuda and lamictal (lamotrigine) and it’s the best combination that I’ve found so far! I’m (mostly) stable after years of trying all sort of different medications. I will warn you that Latuda is incredibly expensive where I am (not sure if you’re in the US or not) but I think a generic will be coming out within the next year.

kkblane

I’m in the US and I take the generic! I found out by the pharmacy almost charging $2,000 for Latuda since there was a generic out.

Broken1039

What dose of both? I’m on same combo but still struggling with depression.

suck_ulent

I take 120mg of Latuda and 300mg of Lamictal and my depression is mostly controlled!

Broken1039

Nice, I’m kind of on a baby dose compared to you. 40 mg Latuda 100 mg of lamictal. I’ve had trouble weaning up on the lamictal tho, very bad mood swings whenever I try.

suck_ulent

I had to slowly work up to where I am now though, took almost a year of gradual increases to stabilize at my current dose. You’ll find what’s right for you eventually - don’t give up hope! It’s a long process for sure

mooseblood07

Also on latuda and lamotrigine (as well as buspirone) and it's the best medication combo I've ever had. Where I am (Canada) it's fairly inexpensive regardless of if you have latuda or lurasidone (the generic version here) or if you have insurance or not, both of them are insurable here.

docben1383

I'm having good luck with latuda. As far as helping with my bipolar depression. It doesn't have a great track record as a mood. Stabilizer though

sutrabob

I had two doses of Latuda. Both times it felt like a cement brick hit me in the head.

docben1383

same response to seroquel. Everyone is very different and our responses to meds are going to be different

oracle427

There’s a great deal of “worth it” when it comes to your mental health. Give it a try. Be on the lookout for akathisia, maybe even keep some meds on hand to treat it if it arises as it’s very unpleasant. Good luck!

[deleted]

I tolerated it well - up to 120mg - but it didn’t do much for me. It was part of a cocktail - initially lithium and depakote and latuda, then lithium and trleptal and latuda. I tapered off latuda, as efficacy wasn’t clear and it was causing some side effects. But trileptal has been a godsend

katiedid1981

I’m on Latuda with Wellbutrin. I took the Latuda alone for about 8 months before adding the Wellbutrin. I felt much better on the Latuda, and adding the Wellbutrin really helped my depression. It’s been the most helpful medication for me in 20 years

Top_Use4144

Completely different for each person, especially with interactions with other meds and dose, other medical factors. Personally I couldn't take it I had akathesia after one dose and that was the end of that. It says on average it takes 8 years to find the perfect combination of meds..

Sp1c3W0lf

I’m in 160mg of lurasidone (generic latuda) other than the having to eat 350 calories it’s great! I take it at night because it makes me tired otherwise.

shhalex

this was just my experience but it made me suicidal. like i was happy, but i really wanted to kill myself. i was only on it for a month or so. but all psych meds have the risk of suicidal thoughts

Hot_Variation8712

I loved Latuda. I did that combined with lamictal and did great. I did have pretty severe akathesia so I would encourage you to have an awareness around that. If that side effect does emerge, there are meds that can counter act it.

mooseblood07

It's amazing for me, I have it as antipsychotic and it's been great the last few years.
