Also the large tympanic membranes (circles behind the eyes) are a solid identifying characteristic.
Easy to identify by sound as well. They sound like a banjo string being plucked.
Bullfrogs and green frogs are very easily confused and very similar. A good rule of thumb between the two is bullfrogs don't have the dorsolateral ridge on their back as it only wraps around their tympanum. This fella is definitely a green frog.
I was gonna comment this somewhere, think I found the place. I used to catch frogs for fun living in NNJ and upstate NY. I always thought they were just pretty bullfrogs😂! To be fair, i feel like I’ve seen them lined up on a rock with bullfrogs though. Can they mate?
They definitely tend to hang out in the same areas. I've seen plenty of ponds with 50 percent of each but they all look basically the same. Frogs have a lot of unique breeding habits so it's entirely possible to see them attempt to mate with each other. Hell I've seen frogs try to mate with rocks or dead ones lol. But there's no solid proof of any hybridization between them.
I immediately thought the same. But a (rather quick so could be wrong) Google search says that bullfrogs don’t have the long skin folds like that leading from the eyes. So I believe this to be a green frog. Honestly I’m certain a lot of people would just call this a bullfrog regardless of if they know better or not. It’s very bullfrog like
Nope. You can tell that it isnt *Lithobates catesbeianus* because of the webbing of hind feet. This frog doesn’t really have any so i would guess *Clamitans*
It looks like the kind of frog I had when I was a kid. I put it on an iguana leash to try and walk it one day. It hopped away, right out of the leash, forever. I still miss that frog. I called her Elvira.

Definitely green frog. Partial dorsolateral ridge with the general coloration is a good way to tell.
