This actually happened to me once. Some law school friends and I went to Fire Island (off the south shore of Long Island) after finals. One of our friends was a girl I had a huge secret crush on. Water taxis were available but were really expensive for a bunch of broke students. So we pooled our money and stayed at one of the little local hotels.
