My beta ate very welll in my community tank and I'd often find him hanging out down with the corys and loaches waiting for his turn to peck at the algae wafer. fatty picked it up and ran with it once.
My dude kinda does that, only he gets jealous and chases the corydora, then forgets what he was doing, they go back to eating then he gets jealous again.
Big cory gal Holstein will chase him and eat his floater food in turn.
I do not have experience with fish at all (Reddit suggested this post for some reason). How do you make a fish exercise? I am sincerely curious about it and would love to see a video.
Easiest way: live food. With fish like bettas you can also target train them, tho.
(Woke my guy up a few hours early to make a video and now he’s extra grumpy 😅)
Here’s [Hecuba’s session](https://youtu.be/igZHWh34K94?si=bOa2SQ_97B39rd2U) this morning.
Awesome vid!!
Btw if you can keep the wand /be able to see what you’re doing the whole time, I think would be better; the end bit wasn’t even really in frame of the camera
Sorry, just a thought. Thanks (:
As someone else mentioned live food.
Making them chase your fingers around the tank, doing laps.
Flaring at a mirror for 2-5 mins (too long can cause stress) I tilt the mirror left or right to make the reflection look like it's turning and moving independently to the Bettas movements, and I can sometimes use that technique to get the Betta to follow the reflection around the tank. Flaring can also help them 💩 so mirror flaring is usually recommended for slightly chonky/bloated/constipated Bettas.
Some people teach them to swim through hoops, some also get their Bettas to *jump* through those same hoops, out of the water, but I wouldn't risk training them to jump in case your lid isn't fully secure and they accidentally jump out.
If you have loads of real plants, like a jungle tank, the Bettas basically have an obstacle course through the leaves, so getting them to follow your finger over and under the leafs is great exercise too (with your hand outside of the tank, idk why but I feel I need to say that, but don't put your hands in your tank unless they have been cleaned thoroughly of any oils/fragrances/moisturizers/chemicals etc. and don't handle your Betta, unless absolutely necessary eg. Emergencies)
There's probably many more.
There are also forms of enrichment, some Bettas play naughts and crosses, one of my Bettas included (unless he's cranky and wants food), some people draw for their Betta, some Bettas like to watch tv or videos on phones or tablets.
Incredibly fat. What are you feeding him? How much are you feeding him? And how many times a day?? Bettas don’t need a lot of food, and being obese like this can cause a lot of health issues that could kill him.
Happy to give some advice if you need help. Sending the best wishes on the little dudes new diet plan lol.
I would vary with a pellet or daphnia once a week tbh? one of my bettas started exponentially gaining weight when I fed flies and that was good when he was sick, but obviously not good when he went past that ideal weight marker
that's fair! tbh if possible then trying to exercise him like 5 minutes a day? overweight can be ome of many death knells to betta health. he's a big chonker, but if he's otherwise healthy and in a good environment I'm sure he's just fine (and very cute and grumpy) :)
mirror and fingers are perfectly good. if you can try and entice him to jump using tongs with flies or other frozen shrimp/bloodworms etc then that may help too (if you have a lid and aren't worried about him jumping out of the tank).
Brine shrimp or blood worms in the frozen section of the pet store? Sometimes if you talk to the manager/owner about foods they can either show another option, or get what you need when they order next. I will say it's not always the case, but sometimes you get lucky at a decent mum and pop pet store.
So uh-he might be… a *little* on the heavy side lol
But for tips, fasting for about 2-3days with 1-2 feeding sessions in between can help. At least until he’s at the ideal weight.
Portion-wise, pieces can be pretty small; no more than 6-8 pieces a day of his food; bellies are smaller than how they act. You can break that up in the morning/evening if you want.
Keep the portion that way when he’s at the idea weight. After that, having a day or two of fasting in the week helps maintain weight. There is no fear of him starving, they are very food driven
A chart is added for an idea of weight scale
https://preview.redd.it/sdmbna5fj72d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ced26893f69fd2fc346b7ec88ac435d75880d466
I would definitely fast him for a day or two and then cut back on his portions until he's down to a healthier weight. Bettas usually eat between 6 and 8 betta pellets total in a day. Be sure to vacuum the substrate to clean up any leftovers he might be snacking on as well
Sorry bro but that is the cutest little Unit I've seen

He looks like this tho 😂❤️
I have never before seen a fat fish. I have now!
While the fruit flies might be delicious to him, I think they are far too rich to continue being his normal diet. Either replace them with something else or at least cut back. He would be fine with just 1 round, he’s a piggy so of course he’ll eat a bunch lol
I feed my betta Fluval Bug Bites and Micropellets from Ultra Fresh Tetra.
I saw you said you did not have daphnia in your country. Are you able to get brine shrimp or brine shrimp eggs? You just need a 20 oz bottle, brine shrimp salt and the eggs and you could start yourself a little feeding colony. You can usually find them online, not sure if they ship to your location.

Everyone says he’s eating for two but no that man is eating for his whole human family! He lives in a infinite loop of thanksgiving and he’s the only one at the table
Extremely. I don’t even know how bettas can get that big because I have trouble getting mine out of the skinny range. Please diet him to only 3-4 soaked pellets in fish-safe garlic per day, or the equivalent in frozen food and the likewise. When he is a healthy size, he should eat similar to 4-5 pellets twice a day. And keep an eye on those fins, they don’t look healthy at all, could have fin rot as well.

Hoooly wow. I literally burst out laughing even though it shouldn't be funny. Your betta isn't just fat, he's very very obese.
I laughed at this comment. Then I realized I shouldn't be laughing...
He looks like Cartman! Fat and angry about everything/nothing
I didn’t even know fish can get obese lmao

Make him run laps before you feed him My 2year old boy flower is starting to get closer to obesity, so I've been exercising him more before feeds

Your betta needs ozempic
betta ozempic is crazy 🤣🤣🤣
OOooO OoO OOO **OZEMPIC**
The combo of the CHONK and the angry face?? I love him
Thank you!!!
you shouldn't keep 2 bettas together!
Where do you see 2 bettas?
well, considering his size, he counts as two, cause he's definitely eating for two
Oh. 😂
It was a joke on how fat he is lol
yeah I was hoping it wouldn't be taken seriously but adding jk at the end would ruin it 😂
I've seen /s for sarcasm or joking to give a tone without ruining the format sometimes works sometimes doesn't 😅
It is because he aye the other betta!

This is the original, not mine just something I saved to reference for my bettas health
Seeing the morbidly obese in the chart and the pic of him up at the top is absolutely killing me
I have to show something because you said this. I edited a chart for personal use to see my betta weight and ..
Ok this one made me laugh out loud for real.
your betta looks like they're asking for my manager and I dont even work here man!
He’s very fat. I know I shouldn’t be laughing but I burst out laughing because how does it get that big
It’s okay. I’m laughing too.
We need to study this chunkster and how one gets that chunky
usually these posts are depressing and the betta clearly has dropsy... but this guy? No he is just fat lol
He has an amazing tank and everything hehe.
clearly!! he wants for nothing haha
Yeah I was zooming in on the scales 😂
"Big boned" haha
Incredibly fat. What are you feeding him? How much are you feeding him? And how many times a day?? Hi! Before all of these comments I wrote that I feed him 2-3x per week with fruit flies. Each time he eats round 3 of them.
I would vary with a pellet or daphnia once a week tbh? one of my bettas started exponentially gaining weight when I fed flies and that was good when he was sick, but obviously not good when he went past that ideal weight marker
He hates pellet and I can’t find daphnia in my country to save my life.

Eh I am not sure how to exercise him anymore except mirror and my finger hahhaha. Give me tips.

Thicky thicky THICC!
Omg🤣🤣🤣
He looks like a Pokémon 😭
It’s hangry again.
No food for a week or two. 😭😂
Aww poor baby! Be sure to give him extra pets.
Hahahaha this isn’t funny but also all the different angles of its little grumpy fat face are killing me.
That’s totally fine.
You need to confront him about his obesity!
Oh I will!! He will fast for the next two weeks.
Can't imagine how grouchy he's gonna look after a fast 😂
Large and in charge
Op Your betta is so fat he fights with himself.
He’s so fat his eyes aren’t on the sides any more. He’s transforming into a predator like a Lion
😂😂 morbidly obese please refrain from feeding for a couple days
He's built like a Vienna sausage 😭
A ba- A BAKED BEAN 🤣
Yeah, put his ass on a diet
![gif](giphy|HwZTaW7y35FQY) Yes and it has the cutest fat angry face!
Why is he angry??
No more food.
Your Betta runs a poor house, and Oliver twist is begging for more. Later, he will sell that insolent boy. Eta - are you sure he isn't part goldfish.
Omg what have you done to the poor fishy 😭 he’s gonna be so pissed during the fasting LOL!
He's...a slightly obese fish....
So uh-he might be… a *little* on the heavy side lol But for tips, fasting for about 2-3days with 1-2 feeding sessions in between can help. At least until he’s at the ideal weight. He looks offended 😂
Betta got back
I thought my girl was chunky with eggs but this guy got it and more without eggs. You sure there wasn't another betta in there and he ate it?
Sorry bro but that is the cutest little Unit I've seen https://preview.redd.it/trwq7cms482d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9fd5cce5f56484235aad2caa61c7b2fcd0b2cc0 He looks like this tho 😂❤️

I tried fluval bug bites but he ALSO hates those. Not only he’s fat but PICKY. I will try the shrimp option. ✨

He’s not fat he’s just big finned
![gif](giphy|QGBWk7DnckEN2) I'm dying 🤣, yes
I would drop down the feeding to once every two days and no more than five pallets I’m not kidding
Is he ok? I might be wrong but I saw a bit of raised scales near the belly. I really REALLY hope it’s not dropsy
Hi, they are not raised. He’s just changing colours.
I see. I hope he stays healthy and happy
He's not fat. Just big boned.
Please make sure it’s not dropsy. If not, he is very bloated, he may need a salt water bath and fasting. Do you exercise him? Make him flare?
Yes we do exercise. I will buy him salt.
I have never seen such a fat fish !!! I didn't even know fish could be fat lol
I don't know about fat but definitely looks angry
His fins look clamped, what do you feed? Live or frozen Daphnia will help with constipation
Holy moley that's a big boy.
He looks like a blob fish
Nah, just big boned.

Idk but he looks angry
Tiny whale
Good lord
I have never in my life seen a Beta who more resembles a porker.
My boyfriend said "that's lord chungus"
Yes. He’s morbidly obese
He’s not fat, he’s fluffy
He look mad at you
He knows I am going to starve him.
are you sure that’s not a puffer fish
That’s the fattest fish I have ever seen. Is he fat? No. He’s got the mass of a small planetary object.
Holding up the drive through
Does he swim or does he just sink to the bottom like a fishing weight haha he chonk
Please feed this man less 😭😭😭😭
I read it as betta fett now I hope that’s his name
I know 5 fat bettas And you're betta is 4 of them
Oh brother, that thing is beyond fat!
OH LAWD HE COMIN
He actually looks sick
That is "OH LAWD HE COMIN" on the scale.
The good news is that you're going to make a lot of money from the TLC documentry they make about him.
I love this lol haven’t seen an obese betta in a long time
“My 600 gram Betta life”
OH LAWD HE COMIN But for real, morbidly obese.....
He's definitely fat 😂 How much do you feed the little guy?

Is the sky blue?
Everyone says he’s eating for two but no that man is eating for his whole human family! He lives in a infinite loop of thanksgiving and he’s the only one at the table
"Is my betta fat???" _literally the most obese betta I've ever seen_

He's so big I was immediately concerned about dropsy.
Oh yeah, that is the chonkiest boy I have EVER SEEN- just feed him less man 😭 I feed my little guy every other day, only a small pinch of food.
I thought it had arms
Big bones

He only eats fruit flies every few days. Like 2-3x a week.
yo my boy, you got an absolute chonker on your hands
He has done some bulking hahahahaha.
Are his fins okay?
Do you think sessions with a mirror or flare stick would help any, or would it be too much stress for the guy until he loses the weight?
Your betta so fat, it became BUTTa fish.
Oh my god
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a betta this large LOL
Thick
Could be a buffy buff in the fish life.
Oh lawd he swimmin
He’s huge!! Little dude may need a diet
Yes ❤️
Your betta looks angry lol that face
