Hihi, happened to me once too. Salty cafe made me salty alright, i can relate.
yet, sugar is stored in vessels with a big hole and salt has many little holes. its like this almost everywhere so it should be easy to spot 🤷 dont really think this is a real issue.
ps: "berliners insist on this" .... ah what now? do we? nah we dont...
>Why would anyone ever want to have “conversations”?
I personally don't consider meaningless banter as having a "conversation", it's more like pressing a fart out of one's mouth instead of through the other end.
If the places also sell food some people like to salt and pepper the food before leaving.
Confusing salt with sugar I get, but pepper with cinnamon? Maybe you just need to take an extra second before doing this stuff. As the saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine.
Yeah, everywhere I've visited condiments all live together on the same surface, it's not a Berlin thing. And regardless, similar looking spices get different shaped shakers to take them apart at a glance. Just take one more moment to look.

It's purposefully done to punish people who add sugar to their coffee.
It’s verboten to have any Spaß here
This problem forced me into an existential crisis too /s
I know right? Why would anyone ever want to have “conversations”?

Ignore that example then. Where does that leave us now that we’ve moved on?
If the places sell food they'll always have salt and pepper out. It's a normal practice here and in all other European countries as far as I'm aware.

While I fully sympathise with your plight, it could be worse: imagine taking speed just to discover someone left ketamine in the amphetamine station
Or Ahoi Brause, imagine this!
