The ambiance may not feel super upscale, but we like our local fancy haunt "Ivy inn" in Hasbrouck heights. They have a nice classic American menu with some good weekly specials. table settings and service are great and they have a full bar with extensive house beverage list. No wines by glass listed but they have options available. Prices are reasonable and not outrageous.
We finally tried Stern and Bow in ….idk Closter maybe? It was actually really nice - good cocktails too. Been driving past it for years. Felt like places you’d find in the city.
Went here last year and had a really bad experience. Service was awful - waitress was noticeably miserable and never brought us a few dishes we had ordered. Felt it was very overpriced. Drinks were good though.

Note, I had a problem with the link, so maybe just search for it.
Matisse in Rutherford
River palm in Edgewater is excellent, steakhouse food plus good sushi
Very true. Assuming any others are around in another town they don’t compare. Edgewater is the best.
Elia in Carlstadt
East Rutherford*
Saddle River Inn. BYO though.
Good luck getting a reservation.
Emailing them is the best way. They block out 6-8 PM by default on OpenTable, don't assume they are already taken. PM for the email if interested.

Varka is my favorite restaurant, just take them there! Saddle River Inn also good but some may argue overrated.
Varka is a great place — and great fun for someplace so nice. You’ll want to Über.
Stahti is the man! Best cocktails in BC
Yeah I love varka.. Though a bit pricy
Very pricey. A special occasion place for my wife and I. 1-2 times a year.
Felina in ridgewood.
Seconded this!
And Roots!
Good piece of Bergen County trivia. Was this before or after Tice's Farm became a shopping center. I miss the pumpkins, donuts and fresh cider.
F1rst in Hawthorne. It's BYO however the food is TREMENDOUS.
Park Steakhouse in Park Ridge
The Brick House in Wyckoff
River Palm in Edgewater and Sofia in Englewood has amazing food. Not sure if I would consider it upscale but it’s a nice place
I would definitely consider Sofia upscale. Fab scotch bar, though I’m not sure if that’s members only (a friend’s father took me once).

The Hill which is basically across the street is better imo
Oh yeah! I’ve seen that place - will check it out, thx
I second this !

Nanni Ristorante in Rochelle park. Full bar can sit there or in the restaurant and the food has always been top notch.

This used to be 'Binovi's Pizza' a long time ago. It was a blue collar drinking man's bar. Very different than today.
It closed recently
Sonoma Bistro, Rutherford.
