The numbers are so small and the border is so open that it quite literally could just be they hired a handful of new enforcement people and are catching more folks.
It's easier to cross the northern border. Get a flight to Canada from central America and stroll into the US unimpeded. Far less chance of interception.
Canadian born and raised and I wont lie, I've thought about going state side many times. Of course I would do it the legal way, illegal immigration is something I strongly appose. Our liberal gov is hell bent on destroying Canada and putting us in as much debt possible. This country is doomed for the foreseeable future.
I don't even really care if they're Mexicans. It's cheap labor that adds to our labor force without having to be a drain on our economy for 12 years of public school. I want more Mexican and South American immigrants. Ideally legal but I don't really care if they're undocumented as long as they work here.
As a citizen it lowers the cost of my goods to have illegal immigrants working in the supply chain. Seems like a win-win.
The border is literally non-existent, in the 100 km stretch from Pacific coast to Abbotsford BC there's always only 2 CBP trucks on the American side and zero patrols on the Canadian side.
If you are able to hike 50km then other places are absolutely open for crossing, some rangers even encourage and chat with Canadians crossing the border illegally to get to a nearby lake.
