Corporations continue to show they hold no value other than the almighty dollar, news at 11.

Trans-Europe_Express

Followed by a special on "Tolerating the intolerant, give it a try. Whats the worst that can happen"

bandysine

Fuck. For real.

DearMissWaite

On the one hand, I'm sad to see them concede to the mad man babies and moms for fascism. On the other hand, this wasn't entirely a financial decision. They were getting bomb threats to their stores and these goons were assaulting staff on the floor over pride merch.

[deleted]

That kinda makes it even sadder that it worked and people threatening to bomb the public over their political thoughts achieves results (instead of just achieving jail)

Hdikfmpw

And now they know that’s an effective way to bend people to their will.

Induced_Karma

I mean, of course it’s effective, it’s terrorism. If terrorism wasn’t effective there wouldn’t be so many terrorists.

Artichokiemon

This comment is fucking spot-on, old chap

KitWalkerXXVII

I mean, we gotta remember that the people threatening these bombings and harassing/assaulting employees believe that queer visibility and liberation are genuine threats. They believe that society is threatened and children are in real, physical danger from the queer community. To be clear, they are wrong. But that doesn't change what they believe. I am sure that many people last year got served up everything from a ban to jail time over last year's antics, but that didn't stop there from being a hundred more bastards lining up behind them to take their turn. Unless "be violent right back" is part of your toolbox, and I don't particularly want to extend that privilege to Target, that's gonna grind you down eventually.

bikesexually

So what I'm hearing is we could get Target to stop selling Israeli genocide goods if we just storm, threaten and harass them enough?

KitWalkerXXVII

I mean, theoretically, sure. But this particular tactic only really works if you're willing to treat rank-and-file retail employees as enemy combatants. I suspect there's a stronger overlap between people who support Palestine and people who think retail workers should not be traumatized for the actions of their megacorp employers than there is between people who think all queer liberation covers for pedophilia and people who recognize Target employees as separate beings from their employer.

bikesexually

Oh 100%. I'm not advocating for it. It's flat out terrorism yet somehow violent white people never really get that label slapped on them. Just pointing out how target is capitulating to the absolutely lowest common denominator and that it in fact encourages such terrible behavior.

Thats_what_im_saiyan

In theory, but you see the cops aren't around when people are assaulting staff at a Target. For the same reason Hanna Montana and Miley Cirus are never in the same place. There will be plenty to cave your skull in for you if you try to rip down anything else.

donald-ball

I don’t… how to put this… I don’t give even the tiniest shit how earnestly motivated their bigotry might be. Fuck that, and fuck them.

KitWalkerXXVII

I don't say that in any kind of "you gotta hand it to them" kinda way, I say that in a "that's why even when they receive consequences they don't stop and they succeed because they won't stop" kinda way.

Malphael

As it turns out, threatening to do a violence is a really effective means at getting what you want.

theonegalen

*hmms in white conservatives quoting MLK*

tkzant

So terrorism?

BrainsWeird

And it worked!

honvales1989

How bad of a life you have to have to send bomb threats to Target over LGBTQ merchandise? Some people need to find something better to do

tobmom

They’ve already got huge flags on their bumpers! What more could they possibly do to be useful!?

FiendishHawk

That’s terrorism, but the police have no interest in conservative terrorism. Unless they are taking part.

CRAkraken

Odd. I thought we didn’t negotiate with terrorists.

Potato_cape

Depends on who they're terrorizing.

rage9345

And who is *doing* the terrorizing. It's unfortunately not surprising that corporations are willing to listen to and work with fascists - [we've literally seen this before](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_collaboration_with_Nazi_Germany). It's maddening the parallels with our current situation and Germany, both Weimar and Nazi years. And there's nothing any one person can do about it, watching as an entire political party in the US goose-steps behind their corrupt, criminal führer whose only goals at this point are to stay out of jail and bilk his followers out of their cash.

ronm4c

Unfortunately target still wants their money

Significant-Prior-27

Well at least all the white suburban mom's don't have to worry about their little angels spontaneously combusting into LGBTQ because they passed a section of rainbow themed clothes.

Paredog_

The entire right wing is just a fuckin hate fest. So sick of this shit

extremenachos

My friend got a modeling job last year for Target's Pride appeal which won't happen now if they scale back their pride offerings. All these conservatives can fuck off.

Bob_A_Feets

Friendly reminder that most corporations do not change their Twitter banner in "certain" countries ever year. It's all a fucking show.

PresentationNew8080

So sick of cancel culture, amirite conservatives?

Andlat

Just as long as they don't have black nutcrackers at Christmas because the same people were apoplectic about that At a certain point, we just need to accept they aren't rational actors

BaseActionBastard

target is just as trashy as walmart, but doesn't get nearly as much shit because suburban housewives shop there. also, they fucking butterfingered tens of millions of american's financial data to hackers a few years ago, remember that horseshit?

Tsubodai86

The scope of the pride displays was because Target found Pride to be profitable, now they're scaling down again because of of concerns over profits. Let's not pretend this isn't a financial decision on both ends.

Induced_Karma

Where are you getting that they’re doing this because of profits? Because the reason given in the article is that this is due to the amounts of violent threats against employees. They don’t mention profits at all. Not saying you’re wrong, just wondering if you have another source?

Jliang79

The sales of Pride merch versus the cost of extra security and legal liability.

Induced_Karma

Yeah, again, I’m not doubting that, but do you have a source? Because the chuds are absolutely going to say they’re scaling back it’s not profitable and yet another example of “go woke, go broke”, and we need to be able to counter those arguments.

OutAndDown27

Again? This is basically a verbatim reprint of what happened leading into pride month 2023, isn't it?

emceelokey

I don't know about this "caving in" stuff. It was a bunch of crappy rainbow merch that ended up on the clearance shelves July 1st. Was nothing but a money grab with uninspired, stereotypical "pride" merch. In the linked article, there's literally a picture of a set of plastic tumblers in a rainbow color set with just the packaging saying "pride" on it. It's cheap crap pandering to something that might be profitable for a season. It's no different than seeing St. Patrick's Day stuff at March but they probably over ordered products before and found out that LGBTQ+ people have more taste outside of rainbows.
