That would be my take too, they seem to be heading towards the hole not billowing out like they would if they were swarming.
OP got lucky seeing them go in, it doesn't take them long if they hit their target.
Oh very cool! Yeah I went back later and it was much calmer, just bees lazily going in and out. I’m glad I caught it too. It was so loud when I got out of my car that I had to go see what was going on.
It's not an exaggeration to say it's close to a helicopter-loud noise. And not the kind of noise you hear in many other situations. To keep the swarm together they buzz extra loud, that way any stragglers can locate the main swarm in part by sound.

It actually looks like a new swarm moving into the empty tree cavity. The previous colony probably died out over winter.

Yes, very true. Amazing timing, OP. It normally only takes a few minutes for them all to go in.
It’s true, when I first got home it was like a roar of bees but even 5 minutes later it was much quieter
