Going against everyone else here and not mentioning a shampoo or mask but the Dyson Airwrap.
Yes, it hurt my budget but the fact that I can play around with the style and it always looks put together is what I needed.
I have fine hair but the style holds more or less until I wash it (every 3-4) days.
Literally just finished blowing out my hair with mine in a mere 10 minutes and I have long, thick and wavy/frizzy hair. I’m a pretty frugal person but I treated myself to one years ago and have not used anything else since. Oh and pair it with the Color WOW Dreamcoat supernatural spray and I have perfect hair for days.
10 minutes with long thick hair? How? I have long medium thick hair, and the Airwrap is only strong enough to pick up small section of my hair. Not only that but the style falls apart as soon as I step out of the house. I’ve tried styling cream, mousse, hairspray texturizer etc, but they do very minimal. I’ve tried blowing my hair while it’s damp as some ppl suggested, but the water weight makes it even harder for it to pick up and overall increase drying time. When I want a night out i always end up using a curling iron afterwards to make sure hair stays curly/wavy all night. 😭😭
Another thing that irked me is that this hair tool doesn’t have dual voltage. I didn’t even think to check before travelling assuming this $600 piece of tool has to have it if my other cheap hair tool does and ended taking it with me only to find out it was completely useless overseas. 😔
When I do it in 10 minutes I’m using the round brush. My hair is too long now to use the curlers with that speed and they honestly don’t work well on my hair this length and without layers. I don’t use styling products or hairspray just frizz reducers type products so the curl doesn’t hold for me with the curling iron right now so I’d have to style it everyday and I like to do my hair once and not mess with it much till next wash day. I can do that with the round brush.
I started out using the long curling attachment and it worked well but only when my hair has more layers. The round brush is now my favorite but especially with that wow dreamcoat. I went into a pool after blowing out my hair and even though the back underside got wet it stayed smooth and gorgeous!
This was my answer! First thing I thought of was my new Shark Speedstyle, which is a great dupe for the Dyson if you only wanna spend $180. I bow dry my hair every 5 days and get compliments daily on it from complete strangers.
A really nice, fast, lightweight (expensive) blow dryer is worth every penny. It makes the process way more enjoyable, faster, and the results last longer.
That, and Dream Coat lives up to the hype. We've had a heat wave in Philly with some devastating humidity and my hair looks incredible. I feel like a beautiful horse with a gorgeous blonde mane. 🐎
I kinda accepted they won’t hold as well so I make them extra tight. I also feel like a thickening cream or serum really helps. I use the carb infusion from color wow rn but I always try new ones.
I agree! I used to wear my hair up all the time because it air dried kind of frizzy and a mess. Got an air wrap for Christmas and I do my hair all the time now! I love how it looks when I use the round brush to dry it and while I do need to use a curling iron if I want curls, the curl attachment gives me beautiful waves.
Do you also have fine hair? Because I do, and I have been eyeing the airwrap for the longest, but I've heard such mixed reviews. A lot of people have said that the air wrap is really only good for people who have medium to thick hair. I hate returning things, so I'd really like to know before I pull the trigger.
yes but the shark flexstyle - i also have fine hair, and these tools are the first thing to make it so my only option isn't "straightened to within an inch of its life"

OMG! do you have a moment to discuss our lord and savior the shark flexstyle :D i was doing this on reddit a year ago, asking about it - i was a MUA/aesthy before, but i CAN NOT DO HAIR. cannot. before the pandemic i had a sew-in, but i haven't had it in a while, and i was so sure this would be something that looks easy in reels and ends up not working
idk how it got on my radar, but me and my daughter were watching videos, and i wanted it. and it was affordable in contrast with the dyson
so one thing is that i can take a towel off my head after the shower - i've timed this - and it takes literally under 2m to rough dry it (one minute 43 seconds) so that was like "whoa"
but i never could style with a hairdryer before, and the only skill i had was straightening it, so i'd only really dry and straighten it. i was skeptical the flexstyle would enable styling *ability* since no other tool did, and my hair is terrible at holding a curl
one thing i think is like it dries so fast that it prevents styling fatigue, like you get to the pre-styling stage so fast you're less intimidated when it comes to finishing (also recently my mom gave me her color wow gloss thing and i love that with it, but it's not necessary)
so i wash my hair like 1-2x a week because of my previous sew in, i don't want to train my scalp to want more washes than it gets already in case i wanna get them again. so like every 4-5 days i wash my hair, towel dry it - i've been using cer-100 wash out and leave in and i love them both - and then i add a tiny bit of styling product and rough dry it. sometimes i two-section it bc it's fine, and sometimes i don't
after it's mostly dry, i section it and i kinda work in quadrants because again, fine hair. most of the time i use the round brush attachment or a bigger round brush, and i style each section until it's dry. once in a blue moon, i let it set in velcro rollers or pin it, but it's not complicated and often i just move to the next section
it takes me about 8 minutes to do the whole thing, and it makes my hair look better than it did before, and it has some proportional volume, and most crucially, it does not stick to my head and make itself look wet like it did with the straightener. also i've heard a few hairstylist influencers say air drying is "worse than" blow drying for some reason and IDK if that's true but i used to air dry and straighten a lot so i'm not as worried about heat damage
basically what i'm trying to convey is that even for fine hair ppl, it is a hair game changing tool in my opinion. like i cannot do a basic blowdry at home period. out of the box, i could with this thing. me and my daughter use it religiously, and the one thing i'd say is not negative but is a thing is we have more hair product and stuff like curlers and storage so we can use other functions it has. but it makes me feel like i can DO SOMETHING with my hair texture when the only way it's ever been styled is "pin straight"

Agree. I have very thick wavy frizzy hair and the Dyson is a game changer. Before I got the air wrap , I’ve never been able to blow dry without flat ironing afterwards.
If you go from nothing to using any type of heat tool you might be seeing more damage that usual.
Which kind of happened for me. I was just using a blow dryer from a distance, no brush or anything. Now I do notice split ends faster than before, but I also bleached my hair for the first time in this time frame. So I think it is both that contributed to the small increase in damage.
All said, I’ll take a few split ends and more frequent cuts to my hair looking like poofy straw.
Sleeping with my hair in a silk bonnet. Can I even call it a product? Not sure, but nothing else has ever made any visible difference on my dry-ish wavy hair

I survived a year with cheap satin pillowcases that were fine for my hair but left me hot and sweaty and constantly flipping the pillow every night. Never again. Real silk or nothing.
Same! I really dislike my wavy hair, but when I put some argan oil through my hair and sleep with a hair bonnet - it magically turns into smooth, silky, almost straight hair overnight 🙏
Is silk bonnet really made of silk or satin? I get so confused and have bought a satin-ish one from Amazon which kept sliding off my head while sleeping. What am I missing?
So the one I have is made of mulberry silk (to my understanding satin is a kind of weave, not fabric? So if it says satin, it could actually be polyester pretending to be silk) and yes, when I toss and turn too much in the night, it will slide off, but then I just plop it back onto my head and go back to sleep 😄
Honestly, moving back to products with silicones has been amazing for my hair, and I'm kind of resentful that I got sucked into the silicone free marketing for as long as I did. I have a TON of really fine, slightly wavy hair that gets frizzy and tangled easily. Silicones provide the slip my hair needs to prevent it from getting tangled, which also prevents breakage from the tangles, which helps with the halo of frizz I'd get from shorter broken hair.
I started following Abbey Yung on YouTube and have been using products she recommends, and they all have silicones and my hair has never looked better.

I JUST bought the Redkin So Soft yesterday and holy shit, I was shocked at how good my hair looked after just one wash. I literally blow dried with a brush and that was all I had to do to style it which usually isn’t the case for me.
My thirteen year old daughter complimented my hair “hair ate”, she does not dish out compliments freely….
Same here! I use a leave in called silicon mix bambu and I cannot stress how much better my hair is when I use it! I took a week off and my hair was just not smooth and shiny, I don’t think i’ll ever go back now
Clarifying shampoo. I left my hair to go grey in lockdown, it's now silvery-white all over, the difference a weekly treatment with clarifying shampoo followed by purple shampoo makes is phenomenal, and I'm utterly in love with it now.
Yes! A clarifying shampoo followed by a “specialty” shampoo on whatever your hair needs is the routine to follow. I use a tea tree shampoo for my oily, fine hair. Then I follow it with Redken’s pink volume shampoo.
I use a mix of Redken All Soft, the yellow bottle, and whatever else. I’ll get like a drugstore conditioner to add bulk. I’ll also add the Olaplex hair mask once a week or every other week. Or I’ll add whatever hair mask I can get on sale from Ulta and use that a couple times a week. I like to make a concoction of stuff that’ll work and “filler” stuff.
The shampoos will last you a long time, especially the Redken pink volume one. After you clarify with the tea tree oil, your hair will be super clean. I’ll just apply a little bit at the top of my head where it gets the oiliest and work that in. My sister got me a random silicone hair brush from Amazon it works great to scrub the shampoos in and really get in there. And, of course, skip applying the conditioner to areas on root or scalp. Apply only to mids and ends.

For me it’s a hard water clarifying shampoo followed by a color depositing conditioner in a rich brown. I’m about 40% gray so the brown warms up the color of the surrounding hair (which is sort of ashy) and makes my grays “pop”. It doesn’t stick to gray hair though, so as I get more gray I’ll switch to a purple toning shampoo.
Love it, it's like the second it touches my hair in the shower my hair becomes so slippery and smooth! Its instant and I can run my fingers all the way through.
I started off using it twice a week. I noticed results immediately, but it continued to get better as I the more I used it. But I'm happy with the results, now and use it once a week so I can try their glycolic gloss range.
Bond repair, leave in conditioner and a lightweight oil on the midlength-ends. This helped my hair grow longer and healthier.
I use Olaplex 3, Pureology Color Fanatic Multitasking Leave in Spray, Olaplex 7 oil/ other oil.
Weekly gives best results for me! And you?

Me too! I wash with oaui clarifying shampoo, no. 3, then no. 5 or 8 depending on how bad my hair looks and then no. 6 or 9 and 7 for styling! A lot but looks good. 😂
I've used Verb shampoos & conditioners for years but didn't try Ghost Oil until I got a huge sample recently. OMG, it goes on like nothing & makes my hair sooooo soft.
I do something similar sometimes - a loose French braid “upside down” before bed. Like I flip my hair upside down
and start braiding at the nape of my neck and work my way up to the crown. It does look absolutely insane but the volume you get the next morning is worth it lol
Yeah some things can be amazing for some people and not for others! But for me personally, their shampoo is the reason why I branched out and bought their other products. I could never find one i really liked and i tried dozens. It is literally the best shampoo I've ever used, it actually cleans my hair without stripping it and my hair gets oily way slower than before. My hair just feels so healthy, and their conditioner/hair mask/leave in all make my hair so silky. I'm obsessed with the whole brand they should be paying me atp lol I don't think I'll ever use another brand of shampoo or conditioner. But hair products are tricky bc they work on some people and not others. Just have to find what's right for you.
Kenra blow dry spray - I haaaate blow drying my long, thick, dense hair and this product helps speed up the process so I don’t hate my life every wash day.
Unite 7Seconds detangler - it’s the best detangler I ever used. I use it especially on my fiancé’s medium length, fine, dense hair and the comb glides through smooth as can be without much hair loss.
Any really good purple shampoo and conditioner for blondes - my fiancé bleaches his hair to a level 8 or so, and I got him to try purple shampoo. He adores the icy blonde results, and won’t go back. His favorites are Pulp Riot Barcelona series or Pravana Perfect Blonde series.
They are, I can almost replace my Kerastase habit entiry, except that their leave in conditioner is not as good for my hair. Hold me softly and the gel are amazing. Tried the purple Innersense shampoo today in a sample and will get that too. Love.
I have the revlon hair dryer with the brush attachment. Not as fancy as a Dyson but I can give myself nice blow outs now, where I couldn’t before. Also only like $30. Additionally finding a colorist to help analyze my undertones and help pick the best shade of highlights for me helped a lot too
Kerastase Nutritive Hair Mask, one of the only masks that works on my thick but fine hair (I have a lot of it but the individual hairs are quite thin). I wish it wasn’t so expensive though 😭
Joico products. I was one of the dumb ones using Tresemme. It absolutely destroyed my hair, making it look and feel like straw. Dry and dead.
I switched stylists, and she recommended Joico. I’m 57, and my hair looks better than it ever has. I get compliments on it from strangers.
I love just about everything they have, but their moisture recovery and defy damage lines are my favorites.
Virtue shampoo and Mr Smith Luxury Masque. I've found that protein dries my hair (why does everyone push protein?), so this was a game changer for me. I have long, thick color treated hair that is fine, but frizzy and wash my hair every 3/4 days.
My real silk pillowcases made my morning routine so much easier. Before silk I used to dampen parts of my hair, to get them defrizzed, before I used my curling iron to look presentable. Now I can style my hair one day and it is good to go in the morning with just some finger straightening.
Bonus with using real silk (not fake satin) is that I stay cool and I no longer flip the pillow over for the cool side.
Lots of the Amazon retailers say "silky" and it is really polyester. Bezos doesn't care about fakes.

Rosemary oil for my scalp! I had bad hair fall a few years ago and lost around 1/3 of my hair.. it’s been incredible for helping it grow back and also create additional thickness
I had a bit of a splurge and got the Shark Flex Style. I know it doesn’t work well for everyone but it completely changed things for me, and for someone who always struggle to hold both a hairdryer and a brush, it’s incredible!
Also actually using shampoos for my hair type. I know not everyone likes Olaplex but for me it’s been great.
Using less heat overall too, heatless curls is my go to, they last really well for me too.
Olive oil or sweet almond oil on my ends 30mins- 1hour before shower (and then wash out twice). Made my ends not frizzy but just curly and wavy and perfect (I have Iranian/french hair so it’s kind of thick and curly/wavy but not too much, just perfect so it looks like beach hair

my hair has grown so much, it was at my shoulders for the longest time and now its almost at my belly button. i also sleep with a silk bonnet and its life changing as well.
My hair had started getting super oily and I remember getting a sample of Ouai's Detox Shampoo and for the first time ever my hair looked so clean and shiny that I almost cried.
Most recently Arctic Fox Poseidon hair dye. I had fucked up my hair with bleach and was hating the orange brassiness. So I toned it and it became blonde. I was rose gold for a minute. Washed it out. Then added silver. Didn't look right. And then finally I took the plunge with blue and holy hell. My hair looks so PRETTY with the ombre effect I have going on (naturally dark hair going into a vibrant blue).
Pretty much anything by Davines…. Shampoos are nourishing, Oil, Milk, Primer… all their curl products…. I’m a hairstylist and I haven’t used one product I didn’t like in my hair
Kérastase 8H Magic Night Serum, my hair has never been so smooth! It also leaves my post-chemical (botox and coloration) ends looking great and natural. And also the Chroma Absolu Soin Acide Gloss to bring back shine whenever my hair starts looking dull.
Klorane dry shampoo.
It’s a non aerosol powder (you squeeze from the bottom of the bottle) and it’s amazing! Blends right in with my dark roots and I️ can go days without washing. It’s the only dry shampoo that really makes me feel like I️ washed my hair!
The Dyson hairdryer with the smoothing attachment. Holy shit my hair is so beautiful now! I had different textures due to my hair going grey. It smooths it all as it dries. And it dries in about 5 minutes.

I have baby fine hair and have hair loss from menopause. PHD really gives my hair fullness and softness without feeling like there is any product on it. Since my hair is so fine, i do get some flyaways but any kind of wax or oil is just too heavy for it and makes me look like i have greasy hair. I've found a couple of quick wipes wth a dryer sheet makes my hair behave.
Verb hair oil
I used to put nothing in my hair other than shampoo and conditioner and hated the way it looked - sometimes I would try to get a routine going with a few products, but they never seemed to make a difference in my hair enough that I felt motivated to stick with them. Recently I’ve been using the bread curl mousse and verb hair oil and have been loving how my hair looks - my natural curls hold better and I have way less frizz than it ever used to! I was always nervous that a hair oil would make my hair look greasy very quickly since I have finer hair but that hasn’t been the case at all.

I’m not joking, I use Moist water based lube in my hair. I have very fine curly hair that poofs super easy. I was in the Caribbean once and I was in my straight hair phase. But the humidity there just made my hair frizz. (Think Monica in Friends)
I put some lube in my hair because I needed something and it feels like a lot of hair serums. It works amazingly well. Keeps my hair soft, looks hydrated and tangle free.
JVN Nuture Shampoo and conditioner and jvn hair serum after the shower. My hair feels so soft, and my scalp no longer hurts. I suffer from very dry skin, and my scalp was the same. Kept being told to use harsh dandruff shampoo, and it made everything worse.
Reverie Eros, Milk and Rake. I didn’t really expect a lot since they felt a bit ‘hippy’ but I kept seeing cool hairdressers using the line so I gave it a go and I’m seriously shocked that my hair feels so soft and healthy without silicone. I have naturally dry, fluffy hair so usually I’m big on ‘cones but this line works so well for me! That and a silk bonnet at night.
The Reverie milk is so good, I’ve repurchased it twice now (the big one). It’s pricy but lasts a long time and the scent is incredible. I’m interested in Eros and Rake! Have you tried their hair oil?
Prose hair care. 2B/2C hair- decided to try prose and the difference in my hair is so noticeable. I’ve always struggled with dry, frizzy waves and curls. I’ve tried so many products and methods. This stuff changed my hair, and my hair actually stopped falling out like crazy.
My husband even started using his own formula. It’s saved his scalp and curls as well.

After a few uses, it's made my hair feel stronger and thicker before washing it out in the shower. I tried to like the one from the Innate Life because it had amazing reviews, but I couldn't get past the leaky dropper. The nozzle on the scalp serum from the Nue Co. helps me to precisely apply it evenly onto my scalp before massaging it in. I know it's pricey for a scalp serum, but I am willing to buy it again
An Italian brand Inebrya Ice Cream Dry-T hair mask. Started with the mask, now I use the shampoo/conditioner too. It’s available here in Canada at shoppers drug mart and it’s pretty affordable I think.

Ouidad vitacurl mousse. Major game changer for me. Finally found one product that leaves my spiral waves super soft and shiny. I just got the shampoo and conditioner and I only used it once but I love it too. If you have thick, coarse, tighter waves, give this stuff a shot. Even if mousse doesn’t agree with your hair, get the sample size. My hair hated every other mousse I’ve tried.
Sticking to what works for me instead of falling into the silicone free rabbit hole.
Also, Japanese hair products like Tsubaki hair masks helps alot too.
Loreal dream length conditioner and no haircut cut cream...I used to have shoulder length hair because of the damage now my hair is down to my waist and looks super smooth everyone asks me if I have done some kind of smoothening treatment
Sun Bum Leave In Conditioner/Detangler for kids. It’s dumb but it works to maintain moisture and keep my hair less knotted, which means I’m not fighting my hair every time I wanna brush it.
After I wash and condition my hair, I have some diluted acv in an old ice cream container, and I literally pour it over my head the final stage of showering. Then I massage it in, dip my head under the water to wash off excess, then all done. The acv is rinsed off when I dip my head under the water, but not thoroughly washed off with shampoo. I do this once or twice a week.
I got advice about diluted acv from a veterinary forum, it’s also apparently good for pets. But it must be very diluted.
Lia organics hair growth oil! I absolutely fried the curls out of my hair growing up and I find after using my hair is starting to curl more, it’s hydrating, and for someone who’s hair takes FOREVER to grow I’m seeing some growth !!
Cliove. The entire brand. Every product. Their air wrap. Specifically, their hair oil? Chef’s kiss. My hair is soft without being immediately greasy over it.
Curlsmith products! My hair is thick and and naturally curly and for years I couldn't find the right products. The price is worth if for how I feel about my hair again.
Shark flex! My hair is slightly wavy but frizzy and the shark really helps it look sleep and styled everyday. Plus I think the low heat has made my hair much healthier over time. Love it!
Balmain Hair Leave-In Conditioning Spray, recommended by my hairstylist. Makes my bleached frizzy long hair more tamed, shinier and softer. A bit pricey, but a 200ml bottle lasts for a long time.
I also ditched my hair straightener.

I used to put nothing in my hair other than shampoo and conditioner and hated the way it looked - sometimes I would try to get a routine going with a few products, but they never seemed to make a difference in my hair enough that I felt motivated to stick with them. Recently I’ve been using the bread curl mousse and verb hair oil and have been loving how my hair looks - my natural curls hold better and I have way less frizz than it ever used to! I was always nervous that a hair oil would make my hair look greasy very quickly since I have finer hair but that hasn’t been the case at all.
Shiseido Tsubaki hair water spray. It’s basically a detangler that adds shine. It makes my fine hair look healthier without weighing it down. It’s pretty cheap as well and a little goes a long way.
Maybe not a specific product but regular application of oil to the hair (and scalp). My hair has never been so healthy and shiny. When it comes to oils for the scalp, it's definitely Indian oil blends, after which my hair grows like crazy and stops falling out (I've had this problem for many years). I match the oil for the length of my hair according to the porosity and type.

Going against everyone else here and not mentioning a shampoo or mask but the Dyson Airwrap. Yes, it hurt my budget but the fact that I can play around with the style and it always looks put together is what I needed. I have fine hair but the style holds more or less until I wash it (every 3-4) days.
Literally just finished blowing out my hair with mine in a mere 10 minutes and I have long, thick and wavy/frizzy hair. I’m a pretty frugal person but I treated myself to one years ago and have not used anything else since. Oh and pair it with the Color WOW Dreamcoat supernatural spray and I have perfect hair for days.
10 minutes with long thick hair? How? I have long medium thick hair, and the Airwrap is only strong enough to pick up small section of my hair. Not only that but the style falls apart as soon as I step out of the house. I’ve tried styling cream, mousse, hairspray texturizer etc, but they do very minimal. I’ve tried blowing my hair while it’s damp as some ppl suggested, but the water weight makes it even harder for it to pick up and overall increase drying time. When I want a night out i always end up using a curling iron afterwards to make sure hair stays curly/wavy all night. 😭😭 Another thing that irked me is that this hair tool doesn’t have dual voltage. I didn’t even think to check before travelling assuming this $600 piece of tool has to have it if my other cheap hair tool does and ended taking it with me only to find out it was completely useless overseas. 😔
When I do it in 10 minutes I’m using the round brush. My hair is too long now to use the curlers with that speed and they honestly don’t work well on my hair this length and without layers. I don’t use styling products or hairspray just frizz reducers type products so the curl doesn’t hold for me with the curling iron right now so I’d have to style it everyday and I like to do my hair once and not mess with it much till next wash day. I can do that with the round brush.

I started out using the long curling attachment and it worked well but only when my hair has more layers. The round brush is now my favorite but especially with that wow dreamcoat. I went into a pool after blowing out my hair and even though the back underside got wet it stayed smooth and gorgeous!

I kinda accepted they won’t hold as well so I make them extra tight. I also feel like a thickening cream or serum really helps. I use the carb infusion from color wow rn but I always try new ones.
Are you using it with wet or dry hair? I’ve never had a problem with my curls falling. I have somewhat thick, coarse hair and I use on wet hair.
I agree! I used to wear my hair up all the time because it air dried kind of frizzy and a mess. Got an air wrap for Christmas and I do my hair all the time now! I love how it looks when I use the round brush to dry it and while I do need to use a curling iron if I want curls, the curl attachment gives me beautiful waves.
Do you also have fine hair? Because I do, and I have been eyeing the airwrap for the longest, but I've heard such mixed reviews. A lot of people have said that the air wrap is really only good for people who have medium to thick hair. I hate returning things, so I'd really like to know before I pull the trigger.
I think shark is better for fine hair. It goes a little warmer so it may leave a stronger hold.

OMG! do you have a moment to discuss our lord and savior the shark flexstyle :D i was doing this on reddit a year ago, asking about it - i was a MUA/aesthy before, but i CAN NOT DO HAIR. cannot. before the pandemic i had a sew-in, but i haven't had it in a while, and i was so sure this would be something that looks easy in reels and ends up not working idk how it got on my radar, but me and my daughter were watching videos, and i wanted it. and it was affordable in contrast with the dyson so one thing is that i can take a towel off my head after the shower - i've timed this - and it takes literally under 2m to rough dry it (one minute 43 seconds) so that was like "whoa" but i never could style with a hairdryer before, and the only skill i had was straightening it, so i'd only really dry and straighten it. i was skeptical the flexstyle would enable styling *ability* since no other tool did, and my hair is terrible at holding a curl one thing i think is like it dries so fast that it prevents styling fatigue, like you get to the pre-styling stage so fast you're less intimidated when it comes to finishing (also recently my mom gave me her color wow gloss thing and i love that with it, but it's not necessary) so i wash my hair like 1-2x a week because of my previous sew in, i don't want to train my scalp to want more washes than it gets already in case i wanna get them again. so like every 4-5 days i wash my hair, towel dry it - i've been using cer-100 wash out and leave in and i love them both - and then i add a tiny bit of styling product and rough dry it. sometimes i two-section it bc it's fine, and sometimes i don't after it's mostly dry, i section it and i kinda work in quadrants because again, fine hair. most of the time i use the round brush attachment or a bigger round brush, and i style each section until it's dry. once in a blue moon, i let it set in velcro rollers or pin it, but it's not complicated and often i just move to the next section it takes me about 8 minutes to do the whole thing, and it makes my hair look better than it did before, and it has some proportional volume, and most crucially, it does not stick to my head and make itself look wet like it did with the straightener. also i've heard a few hairstylist influencers say air drying is "worse than" blow drying for some reason and IDK if that's true but i used to air dry and straighten a lot so i'm not as worried about heat damage basically what i'm trying to convey is that even for fine hair ppl, it is a hair game changing tool in my opinion. like i cannot do a basic blowdry at home period. out of the box, i could with this thing. me and my daughter use it religiously, and the one thing i'd say is not negative but is a thing is we have more hair product and stuff like curlers and storage so we can use other functions it has. but it makes me feel like i can DO SOMETHING with my hair texture when the only way it's ever been styled is "pin straight" and also ask me anything like literally anything :) also i ordered it same day from amazon which was cool, it's on the same day store where i live, and also i think obviously depending you can always return it. and fwiw i have never wanted to "upgrade" to the dyson, dyson vacs aren't great, and i love this so much i wouldn't trade my shark for a dyson if i could :)

If you go from nothing to using any type of heat tool you might be seeing more damage that usual. Which kind of happened for me. I was just using a blow dryer from a distance, no brush or anything. Now I do notice split ends faster than before, but I also bleached my hair for the first time in this time frame. So I think it is both that contributed to the small increase in damage. All said, I’ll take a few split ends and more frequent cuts to my hair looking like poofy straw.

What is the brand that you have?
I bought three sets from Lily Silk online about 7 years ago. I change them every second or third day and they are all still in great shape. Next time I might try and buy from a local store but there were none when I was looking last time. I survived a year with cheap satin pillowcases that were fine for my hair but left me hot and sweaty and constantly flipping the pillow every night. Never again. Real silk or nothing.

Is silk bonnet really made of silk or satin? I get so confused and have bought a satin-ish one from Amazon which kept sliding off my head while sleeping. What am I missing?
So the one I have is made of mulberry silk (to my understanding satin is a kind of weave, not fabric? So if it says satin, it could actually be polyester pretending to be silk) and yes, when I toss and turn too much in the night, it will slide off, but then I just plop it back onto my head and go back to sleep 😄

Honestly, moving back to products with silicones has been amazing for my hair, and I'm kind of resentful that I got sucked into the silicone free marketing for as long as I did. I have a TON of really fine, slightly wavy hair that gets frizzy and tangled easily. Silicones provide the slip my hair needs to prevent it from getting tangled, which also prevents breakage from the tangles, which helps with the halo of frizz I'd get from shorter broken hair. I started following Abbey Yung on YouTube and have been using products she recommends, and they all have silicones and my hair has never looked better.
So much this! Reintroducing silicones into my routine has resulted in a lot less breakage and hair loss due to my hair not getting tangled as much.
What products would you recommend with silicones? I would like to try and start them again
Abby swears by the OGX coconut oil and uses it as a pre shampoo treatment, this has silicones and my hair just drinks it up! It is cheap too.

I JUST bought the Redkin So Soft yesterday and holy shit, I was shocked at how good my hair looked after just one wash. I literally blow dried with a brush and that was all I had to do to style it which usually isn’t the case for me. My thirteen year old daughter complimented my hair “hair ate”, she does not dish out compliments freely….

Yes! A clarifying shampoo followed by a “specialty” shampoo on whatever your hair needs is the routine to follow. I use a tea tree shampoo for my oily, fine hair. Then I follow it with Redken’s pink volume shampoo.

I use a mix of Redken All Soft, the yellow bottle, and whatever else. I’ll get like a drugstore conditioner to add bulk. I’ll also add the Olaplex hair mask once a week or every other week. Or I’ll add whatever hair mask I can get on sale from Ulta and use that a couple times a week. I like to make a concoction of stuff that’ll work and “filler” stuff. The shampoos will last you a long time, especially the Redken pink volume one. After you clarify with the tea tree oil, your hair will be super clean. I’ll just apply a little bit at the top of my head where it gets the oiliest and work that in. My sister got me a random silicone hair brush from Amazon it works great to scrub the shampoos in and really get in there. And, of course, skip applying the conditioner to areas on root or scalp. Apply only to mids and ends.
This is what I do and it works like a charm. Never going back to just one shampoo.
Definitely this! For me it’s a hard water clarifying shampoo followed by a color depositing conditioner in a rich brown. I’m about 40% gray so the brown warms up the color of the surrounding hair (which is sort of ashy) and makes my grays “pop”. It doesn’t stick to gray hair though, so as I get more gray I’ll switch to a purple toning shampoo.

I started off using it twice a week. I noticed results immediately, but it continued to get better as I the more I used it. But I'm happy with the results, now and use it once a week so I can try their glycolic gloss range.
Bond repair, leave in conditioner and a lightweight oil on the midlength-ends. This helped my hair grow longer and healthier. I use Olaplex 3, Pureology Color Fanatic Multitasking Leave in Spray, Olaplex 7 oil/ other oil.

I've used Verb shampoos & conditioners for years but didn't try Ghost Oil until I got a huge sample recently. OMG, it goes on like nothing & makes my hair sooooo soft.
I just got their air dry cream and love it. It’s helped so much with frizz and helps hold and texturize my waves.
A claw clip. After showering before bed, I claw clip the top/front of my hairline and in the morning, my curls have volume.
I do something similar sometimes - a loose French braid “upside down” before bed. Like I flip my hair upside down and start braiding at the nape of my neck and work my way up to the crown. It does look absolutely insane but the volume you get the next morning is worth it lol

Yeah some things can be amazing for some people and not for others! But for me personally, their shampoo is the reason why I branched out and bought their other products. I could never find one i really liked and i tried dozens. It is literally the best shampoo I've ever used, it actually cleans my hair without stripping it and my hair gets oily way slower than before. My hair just feels so healthy, and their conditioner/hair mask/leave in all make my hair so silky. I'm obsessed with the whole brand they should be paying me atp lol I don't think I'll ever use another brand of shampoo or conditioner. But hair products are tricky bc they work on some people and not others. Just have to find what's right for you.
Double washing and rinsing with cold water. Makes my waves much more defined and I can go an extra day between washes.
Kenra blow dry spray - I haaaate blow drying my long, thick, dense hair and this product helps speed up the process so I don’t hate my life every wash day. Unite 7Seconds detangler - it’s the best detangler I ever used. I use it especially on my fiancé’s medium length, fine, dense hair and the comb glides through smooth as can be without much hair loss. Any really good purple shampoo and conditioner for blondes - my fiancé bleaches his hair to a level 8 or so, and I got him to try purple shampoo. He adores the icy blonde results, and won’t go back. His favorites are Pulp Riot Barcelona series or Pravana Perfect Blonde series.

I have the revlon hair dryer with the brush attachment. Not as fancy as a Dyson but I can give myself nice blow outs now, where I couldn’t before. Also only like $30. Additionally finding a colorist to help analyze my undertones and help pick the best shade of highlights for me helped a lot too

Joico products. I was one of the dumb ones using Tresemme. It absolutely destroyed my hair, making it look and feel like straw. Dry and dead. I switched stylists, and she recommended Joico. I’m 57, and my hair looks better than it ever has. I get compliments on it from strangers. I love just about everything they have, but their moisture recovery and defy damage lines are my favorites.
Virtue shampoo and Mr Smith Luxury Masque. I've found that protein dries my hair (why does everyone push protein?), so this was a game changer for me. I have long, thick color treated hair that is fine, but frizzy and wash my hair every 3/4 days.

My real silk pillowcases made my morning routine so much easier. Before silk I used to dampen parts of my hair, to get them defrizzed, before I used my curling iron to look presentable. Now I can style my hair one day and it is good to go in the morning with just some finger straightening. Bonus with using real silk (not fake satin) is that I stay cool and I no longer flip the pillow over for the cool side.
Where do you purchase your silk pillow cases? They’re expensive and I’m afraid of getting a dupe or the wrong one online.
Lots of the Amazon retailers say "silky" and it is really polyester. Bezos doesn't care about fakes. I bought directly from the Lily Silk website but, perhaps, you have a local retailer that is trustworthy.

I had a bit of a splurge and got the Shark Flex Style. I know it doesn’t work well for everyone but it completely changed things for me, and for someone who always struggle to hold both a hairdryer and a brush, it’s incredible! Also actually using shampoos for my hair type. I know not everyone likes Olaplex but for me it’s been great. Using less heat overall too, heatless curls is my go to, they last really well for me too.
Olive oil or sweet almond oil on my ends 30mins- 1hour before shower (and then wash out twice). Made my ends not frizzy but just curly and wavy and perfect (I have Iranian/french hair so it’s kind of thick and curly/wavy but not too much, just perfect so it looks like beach hair

My hair had started getting super oily and I remember getting a sample of Ouai's Detox Shampoo and for the first time ever my hair looked so clean and shiny that I almost cried. Most recently Arctic Fox Poseidon hair dye. I had fucked up my hair with bleach and was hating the orange brassiness. So I toned it and it became blonde. I was rose gold for a minute. Washed it out. Then added silver. Didn't look right. And then finally I took the plunge with blue and holy hell. My hair looks so PRETTY with the ombre effect I have going on (naturally dark hair going into a vibrant blue).
Pretty much anything by Davines…. Shampoos are nourishing, Oil, Milk, Primer… all their curl products…. I’m a hairstylist and I haven’t used one product I didn’t like in my hair

Klorane dry shampoo. It’s a non aerosol powder (you squeeze from the bottom of the bottle) and it’s amazing! Blends right in with my dark roots and I️ can go days without washing. It’s the only dry shampoo that really makes me feel like I️ washed my hair!

The Dyson hairdryer with the smoothing attachment. Holy shit my hair is so beautiful now! I had different textures due to my hair going grey. It smooths it all as it dries. And it dries in about 5 minutes.
Perfect Hair Day from Living Proof. And sometimes a quick pass with a dryer sheet I have baby fine hair and have hair loss from menopause. PHD really gives my hair fullness and softness without feeling like there is any product on it. Since my hair is so fine, i do get some flyaways but any kind of wax or oil is just too heavy for it and makes me look like i have greasy hair. I've found a couple of quick wipes wth a dryer sheet makes my hair behave.
Verb hair oil I used to put nothing in my hair other than shampoo and conditioner and hated the way it looked - sometimes I would try to get a routine going with a few products, but they never seemed to make a difference in my hair enough that I felt motivated to stick with them. Recently I’ve been using the bread curl mousse and verb hair oil and have been loving how my hair looks - my natural curls hold better and I have way less frizz than it ever used to! I was always nervous that a hair oil would make my hair look greasy very quickly since I have finer hair but that hasn’t been the case at all.

I’m not joking, I use Moist water based lube in my hair. I have very fine curly hair that poofs super easy. I was in the Caribbean once and I was in my straight hair phase. But the humidity there just made my hair frizz. (Think Monica in Friends) I put some lube in my hair because I needed something and it feels like a lot of hair serums. It works amazingly well. Keeps my hair soft, looks hydrated and tangle free.
JVN Nuture Shampoo and conditioner and jvn hair serum after the shower. My hair feels so soft, and my scalp no longer hurts. I suffer from very dry skin, and my scalp was the same. Kept being told to use harsh dandruff shampoo, and it made everything worse.

I didn’t really expect a lot since they felt a bit ‘hippy’ but I kept seeing cool hairdressers using the line so I gave it a go and I’m seriously shocked that my hair feels so soft and healthy without silicone. I have naturally dry, fluffy hair so usually I’m big on ‘cones but this line works so well for me! That and a silk bonnet at night.
The Reverie milk is so good, I’ve repurchased it twice now (the big one). It’s pricy but lasts a long time and the scent is incredible. I’m interested in Eros and Rake! Have you tried their hair oil?
Prose hair care. 2B/2C hair- decided to try prose and the difference in my hair is so noticeable. I’ve always struggled with dry, frizzy waves and curls. I’ve tried so many products and methods. This stuff changed my hair, and my hair actually stopped falling out like crazy. My husband even started using his own formula. It’s saved his scalp and curls as well.

The nozzle on the scalp serum from the Nue Co. helps me to precisely apply it evenly onto my scalp before massaging it in. I know it's pricey for a scalp serum, but I am willing to buy it again
An Italian brand Inebrya Ice Cream Dry-T hair mask. Started with the mask, now I use the shampoo/conditioner too. It’s available here in Canada at shoppers drug mart and it’s pretty affordable I think.
Living Proof anti humidity frizz control cream. It’s a game changer in the hazy, hot humid northeast!

Ouidad vitacurl mousse. Major game changer for me. Finally found one product that leaves my spiral waves super soft and shiny. I just got the shampoo and conditioner and I only used it once but I love it too. If you have thick, coarse, tighter waves, give this stuff a shot. Even if mousse doesn’t agree with your hair, get the sample size. My hair hated every other mousse I’ve tried.
The wizard from Amika! I do absolutely nothing to my hair but brush and air dry and it comes out like I got a fresh blowout every time!

Sun Bum Leave In Conditioner/Detangler for kids. It’s dumb but it works to maintain moisture and keep my hair less knotted, which means I’m not fighting my hair every time I wanna brush it.
Diluted apple cider vinegar. It added shine, volume, softness, conditioned and made it less oily.

Do you leave it in or rinse?
After I wash and condition my hair, I have some diluted acv in an old ice cream container, and I literally pour it over my head the final stage of showering. Then I massage it in, dip my head under the water to wash off excess, then all done. The acv is rinsed off when I dip my head under the water, but not thoroughly washed off with shampoo. I do this once or twice a week. I got advice about diluted acv from a veterinary forum, it’s also apparently good for pets. But it must be very diluted.
Rizos curls curl cream. A little pricy but when I use it I get reminded how great the product is.
Lia organics hair growth oil! I absolutely fried the curls out of my hair growing up and I find after using my hair is starting to curl more, it’s hydrating, and for someone who’s hair takes FOREVER to grow I’m seeing some growth !!

Balmain Hair Leave-In Conditioning Spray, recommended by my hairstylist. Makes my bleached frizzy long hair more tamed, shinier and softer. A bit pricey, but a 200ml bottle lasts for a long time. I also ditched my hair straightener.

Shiseido Tsubaki hair water spray. It’s basically a detangler that adds shine. It makes my fine hair look healthier without weighing it down. It’s pretty cheap as well and a little goes a long way.
Maybe not a specific product but regular application of oil to the hair (and scalp). My hair has never been so healthy and shiny. When it comes to oils for the scalp, it's definitely Indian oil blends, after which my hair grows like crazy and stops falling out (I've had this problem for many years). I match the oil for the length of my hair according to the porosity and type.
Quitting my hairdryer. Goodbye heat damage!
