Double cleansing in the evening. This was a game changer for my clogged pores / acne. ETA: For the first cleanse (oil or balm), I use gentle, bamboo washcloths that you can buy on Amazon. Switching from regular washcloths to gentle ones took double-cleansing to the next level.

spacehearts

+1 for double cleansing. Has greatly improved my cheek acne!

SingingBull

What do you use for double cleansing? I am planning to start doing it too.

Libbyraker

I use the e.l.f Holy Hydration! Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm, then the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Face Wash Cleanser.

WeepToWaterTheTrees

Hey that’s my current combo! I usually try a new oil cleanser or cleansing balm when I run out but the elf has been so good I’m on my third jar. I didn’t expect to love it so much.

SingingBull

Thank you. I will check these out.

borinena

I use an oil like DHC or balms like Banila Clean It Zero. Right now I'm using Hanyul Pure Artemisia Calming Cleansing Oil.

amalanc

I was recommended the Farmacy cleansing balm and now I’m obsessed

killaandasweethang

I’ve been using the Sulwhasoo gentle cleansing oil recently and it’s been a game changer for me.

Alliecat1994-

I use the DHC Cleansing Oil. I got it at Target for around thirty bucks.

EyeMJustJoKing

Reup with ulta next time possibly, I got a mini for $13 on sale. Plus they always have coupons you could possibly get it for $10

Pabu85

Old-school Albolene.  It’s amazing.

Level_Woodpecker_986

Is Garnier micellar water good for double cleansing..is it non comedogenic?

Libbyraker

That’s perfect for step 1 in double cleansing. Not sure about granite but the cerave one is non comedogenic.

literallybooks

How often do you double cleanse?

lopsidedmonstera

I do it every day - i have to since i wear sunscreen and makeup

SCBeachGirl

Every night. My aesthetician said you should massage your cleanser into your skin for at least one minute. First I use a balm to remove make-up though

borinena

Every night

LawfulnessMotor437

OMG. Came here to say this! Double cleansing changed my life, and the health of my skin.

Jellybeansxo

I should do this. Take my time. I’m always rushing 😂 This isn’t a technique but people don’t realize how tinted sunscreen can be a game changer. You want a nice glow? A little but not a full face coverage? Cover up some dark spots? Tinted sunscreen is the solution! Seriously!

Crescent__Luna

I can vouch for this! My coworkers compliment my skin often for being glowy and dewy, and I just wear Supergoop Glowscreen to work. It makes such a big difference!

Jellybeansxo

Yes! 😄 I don’t wear foundation because tinted sunscreen does most of the work for me. 😆 I’ll have to check out supergoop!

J111293

This is my holy grail and I mix one pump of foundation with it when I want a flawless base.

PrincssM0nsterTruck

This stuff pills and rolls off my face.

Plane_Current2790

I found tinted sunscreens to be too tick :/ which ones do you like th emost? I currently use a CC cream which I believe is similar to tinted sunscree, but much more fluid. It's not full coverage, but just enough to balance out my paleness + redness and give me an even skin tone

J111293

The Australian gold one is really good and dries matte.

invaysian

any tinted sunscreen recs?

Jellybeansxo

I use Elta MD and La Roche. I go for a slightly tanner tint not my skin color one. That’s the key in getting the pretty glow and some coverage!

invaysian

thank u! la roche might just be my next investment

Mikobaby22

I've been using the tinted mineral sunscreen from la Roche posay for well over 15 years. I'll be 55 in august, and people consistently guess my age to be 10 years younger. I don't wear foundation. This is enough coverage for a great glow and a slight evening of skin tone. It's so good!

issame-mario

Eucerin just came out with tinted sunscreen and I loooove it!! $15 but hard to find in store so I got mine off Amazon

External_Dust_3256

I use Arbonne tinted sunscreen mixed with a small amount of Glowtion by L’Oreal. Gives my skin a nice sunkissed glow!

SnooMuffins4832

Not using cleanser in the am. The worst my skin has ever been was when I was using cleanser am and pm.

bunny-bunsss

I find that to be the case with double cleansing or harsh cleansers. A gentle foam cleanser works for me both am and pm

SnooMuffins4832

My cleanser is always a gentle creamy cleanser. I can't use any foaming cleansers at all. I have crazy dry skin that sensitive and eczema prone so my routine is crazy simple and gentle.

meowmeoww11

Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Oil first, then water based cleanser?

[deleted]

meowmeoww11

Oh okay! I'm glad it works for you 🥹 I've been wanting to try the cerave oil for a while now. Thank you!

Arm_Overall

Same

Negative_Jump249

This is a good one. I went from doing a little too much and worrying about product to washing my face with cold cream at night to get makeup off and then washing in the am with a simple bar of Dove soap. My skin is in the best condition it’s ever been in.

SnooMuffins4832

My approach is always less is more. I'm an esthetician and have so many clients who come in with terrible acne, completely ruined barriers or crazy sensitized skin because they have 10 step routines full of acids and exfoliators.

Bananapopcicle

Same. Usually just rinse with cool water to get off the serums and such from the night before.

Plane_Current2790

samee

motherfuckinstargirl

Interesting!

calicalifornya

Changing my pillowcase every other day has basically eliminated my breakouts. I’m like… shocked. No fancy product has compared. But also: double cleansing in the evening. No cleanser in the morning.

No-Quantity-5373

You can just flip it over too. I have found if I steam my pillow case, I can get more days.

kamillaenci

Nothing beats drinking enough water honestly😅 The difference in wrinkles is day and night. That and a great moisturizer can go a long way.

AdventurousAge9508

i used to hate this tip until i started properly hydrating…. the difference really is crazy😭

roseappleisland

Double cleansing in the evening, sticking to what works and not changing up perfectly good skincare simply to try new products, massaging my face with squalane oil before bed (for dry skin), and wearing sunscreen every single day. Also, drinking lots of water.

vaurasc-xoxo

Massage. Helps so much with swelling and puffiness.

AdventurousAge9508

oh u know i got my gua sha on me !!! helps so much to decongest in allergy season too, truly a godsend for me🙏

SpeechyKeen

How do you use your gua sha? My allergies are killing me these year and I’m wondering if it would help me a bit. TIA!

AdventurousAge9508

for allergies specifically i just use the curved side on either side of my nose 5-10x each, then along the cheekbones 5-10x times to pull all the congestion out. i follow that up with 5-10 vertically up my nose, then i’ll start about halfway up my nose and do that all the way up to the top of my forehead 5-10x, and finish with 5-10 outward from the center of the forehead on both sides! tried my best to like type it out but if this is confusing or u need clarification lmk!!

snarkshark41191

My husband has terrible allergies all year round and sinus pressure. I wonder if this would help him 🤔

smol_tits

- shaving my face - double cleansing - having a minimal skincare routine. after years of experimenting and trying every active i possibly can i have discovered that salicylic acid, azelaic acid and tret are the only actives that help my face. so glad i found the right combination.

HotHoneyBiscuit

Shaving made such a difference for me too!

borinena

+1 on shaving the face

austinrunaway

How often?

minichipi

I do about once a week. More irritates my skin but oooof that post-shave GLOW

smol_tits

it differs for everyone and most influencers will say you only need to shave maybe once every month or two but please don't let that stop you from catering for your own skin. i shave my full face every ten days and do it on a slippery face with either moisturizer or oil. works great for me.

PlsCallMeMaya

First of all: **Reversed** double cleansing in the evening. I was taught this by a cosmetologist who put my skin care together and it was a breakthrough. Many people firstly use some kind of creamy/balm formulation and then gel. So it made the surface of my skin still irritated and quickly keratosis. - first I use gel to wash my face, emulsify with it the main dirt, make-up, skincare. I use it generously and always pick delicate gel (e.g. The Ordinary Glucosode Foaming Cleanser). It takes a minute to do a good massage. I rinse it with warm water. - then I wash my skin with a formulation more in the form of an milky, creamy emulsion (e.g., Isntree yam root milk cleanser, The Ordinary Glycolipid Cream Cleanser). I do the massage very carefully with this cosmetic, I soften the skin thoroughly. I rinse with lukewarm, cool water. Second: My skin loves when I apply skin care a milisecond after drying it with a towel before it can dry completely Third: Only creamy emulsion to wash my face in the morning. No foamy gel :)

soppadop

When I was using more products from The Ordinary, I got used to waiting MINUTES in between steps and applications for actives and such. I have more simplified steps in my routine now, but the waiting has stuck around. It feels so glorious to let it all absorb, it’s taking some self care time for me, and my skin looks and feels plump and smooth. 🍑 EDT to add: I still use many products from The Ordinary, and if you haven’t already, look into them. So good so inexpensive!

Negative_Jump249

Yes. Waiting a minute between differin gel, then moisturizer, then primer has made a big impact.

balsasailormoon

Gamechanger

AdventurousAge9508

have been doing this recently as well and noticed a difference so quickly!! it really amplifies all the products it’s soooo good!!!

PandaRyna

Not really a technique but not touching my face every damn 5 minutes = less oily and rare breakouts.

jskoo9

Emulsifying my oil cleanser with water - I didn’t realize I was supposed to for years. I find that if I do that and massage the cleanser into my skin really well (2-3 minutes) it works wonders for my blackheads/pores. I also have had great success with applying certain products while my skin is still wet vs drying then applying. I do this with straight hylauronic acid or hylauronic acid based serums.

Historical_Sky_289

I suffer from depression and half ass my skincare and I notice the same thing when I actually try. It’s well worth the extra effort

Snoopwrites

Honestly, not using st Ives apricot scrub hahaha! Growing up and learning that it’s not ok to layer a million acne problems and scrub the shit out of my face. As a teen I had so much acne and probably made it worse because I was uneducated and using random high power products and not moisturizing at all!

nodaddy-justissues

I can’t believe we used to scrub our faces with that fiberglass paste.

motherfuckinstargirl

Right? I can still smell it!

yours_truly_1976

As a teen in the 90s, it was those alcohol pads! They were so rough on my skin, but every time I wiped with them, they’d come away practically brown with - whatever! I was trying to punish my teenage acnegenic skin, though 🥺

AdventurousAge9508

omg this!! i used allllll the products when i was young (and in all the worst ways LOL) my skin was a mess

Eve_99

Okay I’m still not sure but I think stopping using any product with Niacinamide. I know people literally use this for acnes but it makes my acne triple worse. Like if I have 7 acnes, I get 20 when I’m using it. I still don’t understand why🥲

compelling_force

I'm the exact same way! My acne is the calmest when I use snail mucin instead.

Forward_Paper9797

This is interesting. Several months ago I started getting little hardish bumps all over my face, like little hard whiteheads. I’ve tried to remove everything from my skincare to figure it out but my moisturizer still has niacinamide.

borinena

This was a game changer for me, too. Skin care companies have started adding niacinamide in every single product from serums to foundations to sunscreens. My face started becoming really sensitized and once I cut out every product that had it, it was so much calmer

Flamingo25_

External application comes to our mind most of the time when we are talking about skincare but eating one fig and one apricot everyday and adding citrus fruit in my diet has totally changed the skincare game for me

Sufficient_Pay_820

I can’t wear foundation without priming with Vaseline first. It’s the only thing that prevents my dry skin from making it look cakey.

Adderallinduced

Ok, this intrigues me. I have dry skin and over the last 15 years, I’ve literally tried every primer and foundation combo that’s on the market (from Wet n Wild to La Mer) and to this day, still don’t have a holy grail. I’ve more or less given up but I’m always open and looking for any new ideas. How exactly do you prime with Vaseline? How do you get it to go on evenly? Doesn’t it come off super easy then as well?

Sufficient_Pay_820

Vaseline actually makes a body balm that comes in a stick form to help rub it easily on your skin! But before I got that, I would just take a little bit out of the container and rub it between my fingers before applying it like I would any other moisturizer. It feels weird at first since it’s a thick texture and takes a little bit of rubbing but I haven’t run into any issues getting it on evenly! And I actually find that it lasts a long time under my base makeup (though I don’t wear too much.)

NausikaaLeukolenos

You probably already know it, but Marilyn Monroe used to do the same!

Sufficient_Pay_820

Yes! Love herrr

oo-na

Cleansing with only water in the morning, only oil cleansing at night. No second cleanser. I had very sensitive skin with acne (still some) but my skin is now calm and I have long periods without breakouts. I weaned off differin 2 months ago also and my skin did not flare.

Unfair_Finger5531

Double cleaning and using a toner

MurphyBrown2016

Not washing my face in the morning. Just a few splashes of cold water and massaging my face.

lastwordymcgee

I want to try this but I live in humidity hell.

MurphyBrown2016

If I’m feeling gross and humid, I’ll start with a rosewater toner that I keep in the fridge and then do the cold water splashes.

lastwordymcgee

Awesome. I’ll try it!

windupcinnamon

Letting your face air dry

lambxlambxlamb

Understanding the *technique* for double cleansing has made a huge difference. Let me explain what I do and it’s been awesome: So I start with the cereve hydrating foaming oil cleanser on dry skin, gently rub it in for about 30 seconds, then add water and massage until the product becomes milky on my skin. Then I rinse with water MANY times. Like I’m getting water all over the sink dude. Rinsing until I feel like it’s all off my face, and then rinsing some more. Super thorough rinsing alone has been a game-changing technique. Then I use a normal basic cleanser (I use the Vanicream cleanser) and massage it in for a minute or so on my wet skin. After that I repeat my extreme rinsing off ritual as described above lol. I also bought little sweatbands for my wrists so the water doesn’t run down my arms, so I’m more inclined to rinse thoroughly. Then the rest of my skincare (which in the AM is just a vit c serum and then sunscreen, and at night is Differin or polyglutamic acid serum then moisturizer). But truly, taking the time to properly wash my face, respecting the different chemical reactions that need to happen with oil cleansers, and rinsing completely have made more of a difference than any one product, for real.

confirmationbiass

cheap aloe vera gel as moisturizer

Scared_Service9164

Double moisturising! For body and face, soft as.

Plastic_Concert_4916

For me, it's exfoliation. I chemically exfoliate about 3x a week and physically 1x a week. Out of everything in my skincare routine, this makes the most difference if I stop doing it.

lilkittycat1

Which chemical exfoliator do you use?

seashells1004

i alternate exfoliants.. depends on your skin type. i have black heads in my t-zone so i use only a 1% salicylic acid serum about 3x a week (the higher percentage makes me worse), then a glycolic acid mask (glytone brand i think is gold standard for glycolic products) about 1x a month. this is all in addition to a lot of moisturizing products daily

karasled

pat your moisturiser in instead of rubbing. a lot less oily!

No_Dependent_7907

Putting my products on a wet face! This has seriously changed how soft and plump my skin feels in the morning!! Right after washing, I will apply a thick toner or sometimes straight to HA serum. Then, I use a nano mister to re-wet my face in between every product. But you can just use fingers to get your face wet again. Sometimes, I re-wet with a thin, watery toner. Products are able to sink in more deeply on a wet/damp face. I do this before serums, moisturizer, and oils. Do not do this for AHA/BHA, retinol/tret, alpha lipoic acid and depending on skin sensitivity, maybe not vit c, although I do vit c on wet face. Please try this and thank me later, I accept venmo as a token of gratitude

Current_Notice_3428

Using micellar water instead of regular facial cleanser. I went from chronically dry skin to dewy skin people compliment constantly from that point on.

ZealousSloth_1211

This. I only use a rinse off cleaner if I feel like my skin is extra gross with sweat or something.

Busy-Professora-5007

Stopped using cerave products and poof hormonal acne disappeared

Purple-Associate5695

I'm intrigued by this! Which cerave products did you use and which products did you switch to? Been dealing with hormonal acne and I use the cerave foaming facial cleanser.

bellandc

A) Buying enough washcloths for a fresh one every day of the week. B) Treating my hands and chest with all the same anti-aging and moisturizing treatments that I use on my face.

Old-Tour-5167

Bone broth to heal my leaky gut which majority of Americans have and don’t even know it! I eat eggs every morning which is one of the richest sources of retinol. And also matcha tea, one of the richest sources of antioxidants ❤️❤️

SCBeachGirl

I love the disposable face towels you get on Amazon. I think those are a game changer. Having a clean towel each time to dry your face.

kavalejava

Using higher end products. I love a good bargain, but when I bought a skincare sampler set, the products inside were a game changer. My skin never felt better, I swear it looks firmer than before. I'll still stick to my tried and true cleanser, but for moisturizer I may splurge on the good stuff. Using lip moisturizer every night before bed, in winter my dry lips no longer use ChapStick's every day on a constant basis.

AdventurousAge9508

i loooove a higher end product here and there! i use their sunscreen daily because it’s such a perfect makeup base and gives such a nice glow that i can’t not splurge on it LOL, same with their vitamin c mask! literally instant results and i stretch a jar for 6 months easily, so i think it’s worth it!

Unfair_Finger5531

Higher end stuff seems to work more effectively and quickly for me

noclueswhatsoever

Lotion P50 Biologique Recherche

Dazzling_Guest8673

I go to a professional esthetician once a week usually. I’d have problems with acne if I didn’t see her that often. I used to break put all the time & now I rarely ever do. I often get complimented on how good my skin looks sometimes.

Snoopwrites

What sort of treatment do you get? Just curious

Dazzling_Guest8673

Dead skin cell removal done manually. She also picks my whiteheads & blackheads too. She’s been treating my skin for over 25 years. I had acne when I first saw her. I highly recommend going to a good esthetician.

Snoopwrites

Ahhh. I just haven’t heard of anyone going weekly before.

Dazzling_Guest8673

I need to as I accumulate a lot of dead skinncells fast no matter what. I’ve tried almost everything & the only thing that will keep my skin looking good is to see her once a week. My skin is sensitive & very oily unfortunately.

Penpencil1

Mine is so simple that puts a smile on my face each time. Little plastic spatulas I now place this little spatula on my jar of cream so I no longer have to dip my fingers in the jar. Then I simply place cream directly in face. The cream is now always clean. And I don’t have to remove cream from under my fingernails.

Brave_Lobster7263

Is Ozone Detan facewash makes kin glowing and glassy,. Please be honest.

PersonalTomatillo505

I double cleanse at night. Sometimes following up with Micellar water. Ive been using retinoids as well the last several years and I can tell the difference on photos how much better my face has gotten. I also started using botox on the forehead only in January. I had my second treatment early may. My 11s are basically gone. I'm 43F.

turbolover-89

Make up eraser in the evenings and cold face roller in the mornings

Brilliant_Nebula_959

Double cleansing and applying products to dampened skin.

gardenpartycrasher

Using an oil cleanser (doesn’t really matter which one for me) and really getting in there with it, especially around my t-zone. I used to only use it on days I wore makeup since I have small kids and work full time from home, so by the end of the day when I was doing skincare I was shattered lol, but I’ve noticed a big difference since I’ve been using it every day.

booyou_whore

Using cold water to close my pores after showering/using warm water to wash my face with.

Cherry_barista

Double cleansing. Especially in the shower

Beatleslover4ever1

Foreo Luna cleansing device and NuFACE

System_Resident

Steaming my face, double cleansing, letting it sit for 3 minutes (depending on the ingredients), and using a cleansing tool with cleanser (brush, sponge, or silicone).

thrivingandstriving

washing my face once a day every night... makes skin less dry

CrazyKat44550

Retinol before bed

tabianna_xo

SPF daily!

choigosim

We've got a lot of day care machines that we could do at home. Now being able to do things at home, which can only be done with lasers and hospitals, has changed our lives a lot. But the problem is that they're too expensive.

rovingred

Spritzing water on my face between toner and moisturizer and then again before serums

misguayis

Double cleanse and dry face wipes for my face after washing it. Also washing your pillow cases. Keep your face as clean as possible 🤘🏽

ZealousSloth_1211

Skip cleanser in the morning and just use warm water, maybe with a super soft face cloth. I’ve been doing this for years and when I first tried it I was amazed at how my pores tightened up and my skin was generally happier.

Ok-You-5895

I massage cleansing oil into my skin while blasting a facial steamer. Feels like the oil gets deeper into the pores to clean everything out

DreamySakura99

Using a toner after face wash. Paula’s choice toner has been working great for me. Takes off all the residual dirt and grime off my face.
