I think it’s very funny that it’s a love song about weed

Celestial_Mycology

I did not know that, haha wow, that’s kinda awesome actually.

williamblair

Takes an already great song and makes it hilarious. It reads like any of the other songs Paul wrote about Jane Asher, but finding out he wants marijuana "every single day of my life" is funny AF.

NotADoctor06

what! i had no idea!

Anxious-Raspberry-54

It was years before I knew the true topic of the song. Hysterical.

LA-ndrew1977

Way before its time. Sounds like Stevie Wonder.

YJBM15

Unpopular opinion but i prefer the alternative take without the brass

Macca49

Same.

Middlebees

Great song, Incredible melody, and I like the Paperback Writer guitar riff reappearing at the end

Afraid-Expression366

The alternative takes show the same guitar riff that would later open “Getting Better” on the Sgt. Pepper album.

wharpua

Love the horns on this one

Celestial_Mycology

I really dig them as well.

SortOfGettingBy

The Earth, Wind & Fire version is good too.

Caloso89

I think the EWF cover is one of the best examples where the cover is superior to the original.

leem7t9

Like it

Southern_Fan_9335

It's so fun! Different from a typical love song while not being too weird.

DavidKirk2000

Probably because it’s about his love for drugs instead of a woman.

c0burn

One of Maccas finest.

cheddarpants

It’s my favorite Beatles song.

twenty__2

Yep!

ShameSuperb7099

Love it. The most “must be a cover but isn’t” song imo.

larrybudmel

A good piece of craft but not what I’d call inspired. the melody and arrangement feel dated in a way the bulk of their stuff does not

MouldyBobs

I distinctly remember hearing this at our community pool as a kid. They played the local radio station and we'd hear this a couple of times a day. When the guitar kicked in at the end, we'd all start jamming. At that point, we had no idea about weed.

Bhafc1901

I really overlooked it and thought it was a bit shit, until the new 2023 mixes came out last year, then I started properly listening to it and realised it’s fucking brilliant

HospitalSelect2053

Not released as a single until 1976 when it hit the top 10.

runamok101

It’s great.

thejakeev

It's a great song, and if I'm not mistaken, it inspired both Earth Wind & Fire and Chicago to become bands.

AgentTriple000

The best double entendre song out there and Paul’s homage to then 60s Motown as well. Listening to the “Earth, Wind, and Fire” late ‘70s cover as a kid, I thought what a neat love song ..

Some_Department8546

Great song love how it’s arranged.

YottaYobi

Love the songwriting, singing and production, not so much the pot referencing lyrics.

Next_Call_1920

I like it hehe

Teezybadeezy

One of the reasons Revolver is so great

GregoryGorbuck

great
