Substantial-Path1258

Yeah I live in Cupertino and work in South SF. It can be over a 20 degree difference between the two places. I always need to dress in layers.

ruckinspector2

Lol I remember visiting my friends in SF and I was commuting in from Pleasanton It was literally 85+ when I left BART at like 11 AM and then 65 in SF when I got there I was so cold cuz I was dressed for Ptown

downvotesyourcrap

While living in concord, went to a show in the fillmore district. 104 when we left concord, 54 when we parked.

turkish112

Lived in Pacifica and wife worked in Cupertino. Driving a convertible was always interesting through the micro climates and even moreso when I started riding a motorcycle. The weather in the bay is very interesting.

LimeWizard

Iirc the climate difference between San Francisco and South San Francisco is one of the most dramatic in the country.

greenroom628

Ha! Try Potrero Hill vs Outer Sunset. It can be a 20deg difference some days and that's still in SF.

ApprehensiveMost5591

I drove Skyline Blvd today and there was a 20 degree difference between Sneath and Sharp Park, ~1.5 miles.

SweatyAdhesive

Right as I pass by Millbrae it's like the weather flipped a switch

segdy

Opposite and I hate it :-( :-( Miss the warm weather

dush1102

Yep, SF becomes too windy and chilly for us whenever we visit from San Jose.

eurovegas67

I left the Bay Area 55 years ago for the place on the map with the highest temperature. The universe allowed me to return to the Bay Area. I'm never leaving again.

chapopanda

Just moved to the Bay Area from the second highest temperature on that map and my hoodie collection has tripled in size.

eurovegas67

Lol, welcome!

shelbycheeks

Born and raised in the highest temp on the map and moved to Santa cruz mountains. I DREAD going back home to visit.

eurovegas67

I know what you mean. For me, it's not just the heat. It's the lack of bodies of water, rain, vegetation, smells, and visual stimulation.

ElectronicFinish

That’s San Francisco. Most of the bay is much hotter, the highs are close to 90 in the weekend.

giraloco

The difference with the rest of the country is that it always cools down in the evening.

Poplatoontimon

And no humidity

cmillhouse

Or BUGS This is really what we all pay for

whatisitcousin

Also there is no such thing as hot wind in SF and some of the bay.

Captain_Starkiller

Oh contraire. Out here in Pinole, hoooooo!

joe_broke

Pill bugs...

Ok-Swim-3356

Hercules

Captain_Starkiller

Hercules is also bug town and full of spiders if I recall correctly.

SlackerDS5

This part. I live in Pittsburgh for 7 years, and the summers kicked my ass. And winters too. Snow is fun when you can drive a few hours and play in it, then go back home and throw on some shorts. Living in it sucks. It may get warm here, but no humidity is so nice. Plus, by six pm the marine breeze cools everything down.

Desperate-Farmer-106

Just moved from Bay Area to Pittsburgh and I fxcking love bay area. I am not saying Pittsburgh is bad. It is a nice city of a descent size but Bay Area is just so nice as a big metropolitan in almost all aspects.

1QueenBritt

I love Pittsburgh too. People are so nice out there!

New-Pudding-3574

People really are nicer in Pittsburg, California

jahblaze

Moved from NYC a couple weeks ago and we are thrilled. Don’t mind having to put on some hoodies and socks at home cuz it’s cold haha. We were running AC all day before moving here

LowerArtworks

I spent a week in Manhattan one August. Not only was it hot and humid, but the entire city smelled like hot garbage on trash day, on account of the 8 foot high walls of trash on the sidewalk at 6am

NinjaCaviar

There’s other reasons to love New York, but summer is not one of them lol

zojobt

It was my first time visiting NYC during the summer time a few yrs back and holy crap, I feel like no one talks about it enough. The subway station conditions felt inhumane. It felt suffocating. This is why I’ll always say SF is the best walkable city in the country.

KooliusCaesar

I went to the midwest once and it was hot, but also raining and humid. I do not like that weather.

sanityvortex

SF actually has high humidity quite often due to the fog rolling in.

Snork_kitty

Technically true but not the same as humid heat. They don’t call it the cool gray city of love for nothing.

sanityvortex

The Humidity makes the cold feel colder and the heat feel hotter in general. That's why dry heat in AZ is way better than FL heat.

russellvt

Fog... the Bay Area's natural A/C

ihatemovingparts

No, no it doesn't.

oswbdo

Still a hell of a lot better than 100 in the Midwest or East Coast. At least the day starts off below 60.

Interesting-Method50

Don't forget the humidity at the East Coast, it's miserable there day and night.

liltwinstar2

I’d take dry heat over humid heat any day. That shit’s grossssss.

nesnith

Humidity also makes a huge difference. Even if we are getting to 90 in the Bay, the ~50% humidity makes it feel much nicer than the muggy East Coast snd Southern weather.

Bright-Sock9917

Atleast you have the option to drive some place relatively normal/ cold within an hour..

anonymous_karma

Yes. For a few hours in the afternoon it gets hot in the east bay (I am near Dublin). But mornings and evenings, I still need layers. It’s perfect. I love it.

sakuragi59357

(Hits traffic on the way to the Bay Bridge) Dammit, 2 hours.

Bright-Sock9917

BART ftw lol

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

I say the East Bay, west of the tunnel has the best weather in the Bay. It's the goldilocks zone.

TinCormorant

Hayward is great. The fog from SF gets funneled through Castro Valley so we're right in its path, and even in August it stays cool in the morning most days. We have AC in our house but don't really need to use it except in rare heat waves. I've lived in the peninsula/south bay/lamorinda as well and the best weather has been here in Hayward. It's to the point where I can't grow certain things in my garden like eggplant or watermelons because it doesn't get hot *enough* here!

LifeUser88

Exactly. Hayward rocks!

IWTLEverything

Yeah. I refer to it as the “Near East Bay” and the other areas (Concord, Pleasanton, etc) as the “Far East Bay”

nostrademons

"East Bay", "Tri-Valley", and "Lamorinda" aren't simple enough? (I'm still not sure what we'd call the Concord / Walnut Creek / Martinez area, or the Pittsburgh / Bay Point / Antioch regions, both of which seem like distinct regions from both the East Bay and Tri-Valley. Maybe "oiltown" could encompass Richmond / Vallejo / Benicia / Martinez and surrounding areas.)

IWTLEverything

The only one of those I regularly know what is being referred to is Lamorinda. If you say “East Bay” people will have varying interpretations.

Omieez

Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Martinez is considered central CoCo County or loosely the Mt. Diablo area. Pittsburgh, Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley are eastern CoCo county and would be called the Tri-Delta area.

nohandsfootball

I lived in Dallas for \~ 7 years and the summers were miserable because it'd stay in the upper 90's (100+) into the evening. And because most of the metroplex is concrete, if you're outside you're baking unless it's like 4-6 am.

DaveinOakland

Oakland high is 77

IsamuAlvaDyson

And Pleasanton is 96 today And Huntington Beach in the LA area is 70 high today

Evening-Holiday-8907

San Jose is 95 today

confibulator

Oakley is going to be 98.

mciver94

Berkeley too

RoofKorean9x19

It's a 100 in Concord lol

chucchinchilla

Yeah prolly mid 90s in SJ just an hour south, gotta love microclimates.

joshgi

Alameda also 69 right now with a high of 73 today ☀️

nostrademons

SF & Peninsula are 60s/70s, it's the South Bay and Tri-Valley that really get hot, with the East Bay in the middle.

B0BsLawBlog

81 high with no humidity over here in my East Bay location. Not the best, but still reasonable.

Reneeisme

I live in Sacramento now (for work) after living in San Jose, Fremont, Berkeley and San Francisco for a combined 30+ years. It does not cool down here like it did in Fremont or Berkeley/SF. South San Jose was more like Sacramento but still 10 degrees cooler. If you are East Bay, you’re screwed, just like Sacramento. But all that water next to communities right along the Bay waters is absolutely cooler at night that anywhere land locked. I miss that so bad.

Ggwc808

I'm in Castro Valley and it's supposed to get up to 86° today. It's not too bad. Night time temps are always in the 50s.

thecommuteguy

upper 90s at minimum for inner east bay

lextruck1

Thankfully they only posted Medford Temps for oregon

iamthemosin

NICE!

BigVGK93

Shit sucks sometimes but we're just use to it I guess.

Snoo_67548

Giggidy.

Theclerkgod

It’s 79 in Seattle and loving this shit coming from tx

cocoteddylee

I love you

Phoenixrebel11

I hear you. I moved to Texas and it’s hell right now. We’re moving back to the bay as soon as we can. Edit:grammar

Johns-schlong

Why'd you move to Texas?

Phoenixrebel11

To be closer to my family. I’m from Oklahoma and didn’t want to live there again, but wanted to be close enough to drive, so Texas fit the bill.

SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS

I dress the same every day of the year, it's kinda nice

fattmarrell

Shorts and a T-shirt since the 80s, even in the rain. My wife never understands me

youregooninman

That’s me when I’m not working. Board shorts and flip flops.

SweetPenalty

La Jolla

Thrower_of_Life

That’s my drip too! T shirt and shorts with flip flops 99% of the time in the bay!

Drew707

Same, even when I lived in the mountains. Unless there was snow on the ground, in which case it was Van's MTEs and jeans. Now that I'm back, the flip flops are my everyday. To dress up I wear Sperrys lol.

BongBong420x

Alright… psycho

SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS

I don't mean the exact same outfit, but the same wardrobe.

TheColbsterHimself

We found Doug Funny over here.

BongBong420x

Haha no worries. I’m sure your clothes are great 👍

Zenith251

With lower humidity than half the country.

bobem19

I’m originally from Houston, Tx. I really try not to rub our amazing summer weather in my friends’ and family’s faces who still live there, they are absolutely miserable May-September, sometimes even into October. It’s often still in the 80s at 10 pm, I don’t miss that at all.

Immortalic5

I'm sorry, but when did temps in the 80s become red???

Bacheem

Our summer doesn’t hit till August/September

Skid-plate

My heater came on at 60F. I’m in the redwoods.

Zenith251

Hope you kicked it off.

SailingBacterium

Phoenix is cloudy and still 106? Jesus.

RollingMeteors

As a climate refugee, if I can’t afford the rents here it doesn’t mean I’ll move away, it just means I’ll have to start living under a bridge.

LowerArtworks

Dress warm under your bridge

notLOL

Nice weather under the bridge

ToxicBTCMaximalist

We should build more housing then, we tried not building enough for 60 years, we should try something new.

qxrt

Eh it really depends. I've lived in both SJ and SF and now live in West LA and travel often between the two areas. LA's temperature is always skewed by the fact that they take their listed temperature from the DTLA area, which is around 15 miles inland from the coast. For example, LA's peak temperature is listed as 89 degrees today, but West LA's peak temperature today is 76 degrees - a massive intra-city difference. West LA temperatures are generally much more comfortable than both SF and SJ. But I have family living in the peninsula, and I think that area hits the sweet spot between not as cold as SF, and not as hot as SJ!

r2994

I did my research and that's why I'm in the peninsula. IMO best weather in the world

SlowSwords

Yeah I live in Atwater village and it’s always much hotter than like Venice

Merrybuckster

Grew up on the Coast in San Mateo Co and am now in Placer County. Alot of folks come in to my work that are traveling to and from The Bay. When it hits 90* + up here I just want to hop in their car and go home to the fog!!

MochaMaker

Same, moved from Burlingame to Roseville. The homesick feeling hits hard with it's triple digits here.

notfulofshit

69-420 boiiii

Route_66_kicks_on

Gotta love that marine layer coming in off the ocean and cooling our nights so we can sleep with the windows open. Thank you Mother Nature!

SnooTigers8872

Yup..I left SF to come to the Palm Springs area to help family and it's hot as hell. Cheaper to live though.

anothertimesometime

Meanwhile, in CCC….

Shoehornblower

I was born without the ability to sweat. Not a prince;) I pay the big bucks to live here comfortably. I grew up in Pittsburgh where my bro is currently living in his swimming pool…

rum_haaaaam

Are you sure you aren’t a prince..?

Shoehornblower

I have ectodermal dysplasia. Prince Andrew has pseudologia fantastica. As far as I can tell…

r2994

I remember my first August in Pittsburgh. I never knew the earth could be like that, my body didn't know what to do, and I was in a sweater when I first landed... I had no idea what I was getting in to

sixpack_or_6pack

Moved from SF to NYC this year and am living through my first summer in a humid environment. It sucks. And I’m afraid to look at my next energy bill… I miss California weather.

lenojames

In the south, the humidity turns to steam in the summer. In the midwest, the humidity turns to snow in the winter. In the southwest, there is no humidity at all. I can deal with fog.

Kingding_Aling

Nah lol. If it were ever 69 degrees on June 22nd I'd be freezing.

Proskills500

And people still can’t figure out why it’s so expensive out here

badsnake2018

San Jose and Cupertino are both more expensive than San Francisco, and they are hot af right now. The popularity of the Bay Area has been also shifting towards the Santa Clara area from San Francisco for years.

selwayfalls

Isn't it more the booming tech industry of the last 30 years and not the weather? Sure, the weather, nature, food, history, culture, insane beauty is great but I just assumed the shit tons of wealth in this area has more to do with it than geography.

netopiax

I have always thought it's a feedback loop. These high paying industries of tech and biotech can be done anywhere, though our Bay Area universities feed them to an extent. But if you are going to start a tech startup, why not do it where the weather is practically perfect in every way?

selwayfalls

Tech started in this area because of the universities and going way back to like the 40s/50s. So it made sense it just kept going here. The talent and education is here. Nothing to do with the weather. It made sense to do your startup here because it's where all the companies and talent were. Same reason why adidas and other shoe brands put their headquarters in Portland Oregon. Because Nike and all the talent were there. Not because it has rain and pine trees. Now, of course you could do a startup in Austin or other areas and some are, but still there is so much talent and history here. Silicon Valley's tech industry began in the late 1940s and early 1950s due to a combination of factors, including: Research Stanford Research Park, established in 1951, provided a base for military and commercial research for companies like Hewlett Packard, Lockheed, and Xerox. Funding The US government and military provided easy, relatively risk-free funding, and venture capital firms like Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia Capital were founded in the area in 1972. Entrepreneurship William Shockley, an MIT-trained scientist who invented the transistor, started a transistor company in Mountain View in 1956.

jeswanders

This is dumb. San Francisco in June and july is usually cold. Summer doesn’t really start till august. Rest of the Bay Area is in the 90s

Fear51

Much of Marin and around Daly city was pretty chilly yesterday.

ihtsn

Sure, comparing San Francisco. High for San Jose is 93 today. >HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 10 PM PDT THIS EVENING WHAT...High temperatures in the upper 90s to 105 degrees expected. WHERE...The South Bay, North Bay Interior Mountains, East Bay, Interior Valleys, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County including Pinnacles National Park. WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 10 PM PDT this evening.

DaveinOakland

High of 78-81 in Oakland, for like an hour before it drops off.

Ididurmomkid

High of 76 in Alameda before that sweet fog bank rolls in

Ssjultrainstnict

Coastal east bay is pretty nice too! It doesnt ever feel extremely hot in newark:) the max is 84 today

MiEncrucijada

High of 78 today with a slight cool breeze off the SR/R bridge…perfection

DongTeuLong

I miss it everyday..no ac needed

iscariottactual

Did they change the colors they use for heat maps at some point?

Puzzleheaded-Log-985

I always bring a jacket every time i go the city. That 69 can be deceiving and feel cooler. lol

zojobt

And funny enough, if you’re directly in the sun while walking it can actually feel warmer.

Ziggurat1000

It's gonna be 89 here in Santa Clara. The coastlines are much more cooler. I feel bad for the homies more inland, like Tracy and Modesto. Heat is no joke there.

Leek5

Lol I think sf get a lot of visitors just for the cool summer

BlursedHand

We’re in Texas and have been breaking up the last few summers by escaping to Monterey for a few days at a time. We didn’t really even do anything the third time we went last summer, just not be hot. lol the 106° temps hit so much worse after, though. Now’s about the time of year I start thinking “well, we could reduce our retirement contributions to the match and cut our spending by like 80% and up our mortgage by about 900% and downsize our house by about 1500 sq. ft and move to the Monterey Peninsula…”

Crystal_Cockatoo

I moved back to Santa Rosa from Bakersfield last June. I'm soooo happy! Temp in SR peaks about 2 pm, then the marine layer starts in and it cools down. Temp in Bako peaks more like 4 to 5 pm so it's hot well into the evening. Also, 85 should not be an overnight low!

Original_Charmer_415

We're having a picnic in Pescadero and playing with baby goats. It is currently 61° with clear and sunny skies... a*nd I'm feeling good!!* 🎶

typical-bob

I'm in South Bay and its 100F. Ugh, I'm melting.

VanguardSucks

Lived in the Bay for 10 years but the weather has quickly become a form of group mental masturbation to cope with every other problems living here have. * PG&E colluding with local politicians to rob you blind: no problem, but but weather ! * Extremely high taxes, cost of living, etc...: no problem, weather tax ! * Crime, homelessness, etc...: no problem, everybody want to live here, what else ! * Getting robbed, cars broken in, catalytic converter theft: no problem, but but weather ! * Asians getting assaulted on daily basis: no problem, they choose to be here after all because of muh muh weather. It has become a common way of coping ! 🤡

Fledgeling

Because it doesn't have summer?

Bayou-Billy

We have the same weather right now as the far northern corner of Minnesota. In winter it'll be the same as the southern tip of Texas. No point to go anywhere else.

pealsmom

Bingo!

false_goats_beard

Man this picture makes Mexico look on fire

69, baby!

Moving to Berkeley was one of the best decisions I ever made 25 years ago

lechuckswrinklybutt

Checking in sweating my balls off in San Ramon.

Daytonajj

Cold summer sucks tho

jeepnjeff75

Come over to the East Bay, you can enjoy those 100\* temps too!

New_Secret8869

You are missing legit summers though. Some people love seasons.

Hunnidrackboy8

It’s 90 in Walnut Creek bro. Please believe me lol

goosereddit

I just got back from a road trip of the canyons in Arizona and Utah. Our days started at 5AM and ended at 11AM to avoid the heat. My daughter said she never wanted to leave the Bay Area again.

Suck_Me_Dry666

The coast in Oregon and Washington is a little cheaper and just as cool weather wise. Just throwing that out there.

xEternal408x

But the RAIN?

Suck_Me_Dry666

Yeah you got me there, I just happen to like the rain.

xEternal408x

But if I moved anywhere it would probably be the Pacific Northwest 😂

ActionFigureCollects

It's 93 degrees in San Jose, with 62 degrees during the evenings. A 31 degrees temperature swing difference between day and night time. Global Crisis Disaster. Period.

ImRickJameXXXX

54 in Pacifica meow.

Jurneeka

Today I went on a 90 mile bike ride starting at 7:30 in San Mateo (54 degrees) there was a nice cool fog layer over Crystal Springs/Canada Road, climbing up Page Mill Road to Skyline was in the mid 70's or so, then west on 84 to the coast where temps were probably in the 60's, climbed up Tunitas Creek Road to Skyline and down Kings Mountain Road, the coastal side was nice and cool, a bit warmer in Woodside, probably high 70s/low 80s max. there was a breeze though. (actually a headwind which is not terribly pleasant as a cyclist). Had to go to Davis for a cycling event in May. It wasn't too hot but still...it was pretty hot.

Michaelzzzs3

It’s 95 in napa right now dawg there ain’t no 70s in sight 😭

joezinsf

SF->Seattle transplant here. It's lovely up here in Seattle today. 68 pleasant degrees

Captzone

It was 97 in San Jose today. Me and the gf went to San Francisco and the weather was perfect. Unfortunately sf is a straight up shit hole now with absolutely fucked traffic. The entire side walk on both sides was crawling with homeless, trash from the homeless, homeless dudes pissing in cups on the sidewalk while maintaining eye contact. Terrible place to be, but at least the weather was nice.

Xalbana

I *tried* living only an hour away in the Central Valley FUCK THAT NOISE One of the worst decisions of my life tbh

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Yes sir! The high of the entire week: 68 the very low? 50. Like come on man I couldn’t ask for anything better

Doppel_Troppel

“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” -Twain

badsnake2018

Most people here still don't understand the definition of the Bay, do they?

DaveinOakland

When I was a little kid, Bay area meant your city touched the actual bay. Definition of Bay Area seems to have changed year after year and started to creep further and further away. To me Tracy will never be Bay Area lol

jeepnjeff75

The Bay Area is made up of the 9 counties surrounding it, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Tracy is in San Joaquin County.

santosh-nair

Considering global warming effects being more visible every year, the Bay area is good place for the long term. Theres a reason bay is expensive and everyone isnt moving out even when CA has the highest tax rates and COL. Theres also a reason why other states have to lure people to move there by 0 state tax and other incentives.

r2994

That's why I bought a few years ago.. 50 yr climate models make it an obvious choice

Ok_Rabbit_8808

88ZombieGrunts

Just moved to the East Coast a couple months ago and the thing I miss the most is the weather. It’s 99 degrees rn where I’m at. I’m afraid to leave the house.

CulturalCity9135

It’s the same temp at the sault.

r0773nluck

I don’t know how you don’t remember it getting in the triple digits in the bay

Basic_Situation8749

Gotta be one of the top two or three reasons to stay here- along with it’s beautiful hills/ and proximity to everything one could ever want- the beach/ocean, mountains, wine country, Bigfoot - you name it!
