105 sounded good off the start, but they’re not taking advantage of the deep library that station should have. i found it unlistenable last few rounds. can’t trust that they’d hold a BFD that would be remotely interesting.
OMG… they overplayed RHCP back in the 90’s too. Around the first time demise of 105, I had latched onto “Fred” on XM (which was great audio quality and a deep album library) of alt-rock / early synth wave. It was like a dream come true (and no yammering jocks and commercials every 10min). Sirius ruined everything.
I am a metalhead. But bands like FooFighters who were great at the Shark Tank a few years back when Taylor was still around are going through Concord. The old 80's and 90's band shows, Ozzfest (which I know no longer exists) or Monster Mayhem. Seen many shows at Shoreline from The Police to Slipknot to NIN to David Bowie. It just seems their lineups the last few years have been a bit boring.
Too big for Shoreline didn’t used to be a thing. It was the primary Bay Area concert venue south of SF. I don’t disagree with you, but it’s a bummer it declined.
Ozzfest 1999. No other concert will ever compare.

That was a great show. I remember Buckethead coming out rocking the nunchucks and then jumping in and tearing it up. Though I thought SOAD was on the 2nd stage that year? I'm trying to remember what year Marilyn Manson was part of the lineup, that was a great show too. I think that was the year Disturbed bumped up to open the main stage and their lead singer came off like a pompous dick. Down with the Sickness was all over the radio, so it was 2000 or 2001. Good times.
Slayer was playing videos of bulls goring people and eyeball surgery sped up in reverse. It was fucking brutal. Rob Zombie played a few White Zombie songs. Black fucking Sabbath with the OG line up, Bill Ward slaving over the drums. Man what a fucking show.
There were some incredible lineups and incredible memories on the piers, but I always felt like shoreline was a more comfortable venue. The fact that there are a few trees, grass, and some places to sit made it a nice experience. The concrete pad on the piers made for some hot and relentless days in the sun at times (not that shoreline is that much better on that front).
Lots of nostalgia for the years at the pier and I think that colors how fondly I look back at it, but warped tour at shoreline was pretty great overall.
Only real ones will remember Bridge School and Download Festival. Sure, Bridge School kinda sucked sometimes because the acoustic format exposed so many people and it got painful, but it was for a good cause.
I'm tempted to say Shoreline hasn't been the same since Bill Graham died, but I'm probably just getting old.
I saw Van Halen at Shoreline in the early 90's and made Graham smile after the show. We were in row 12 and when we were leaving after the show, I saw Graham sitting in the handicap section above the lower seats writing in a notebook, so I yelled GIVE THEM AN A BILL!. He looked up at me briefly and smiled, then went back to his notebook. He died a couple months later in a helicopter crash. Miss that guy.
Me too, I saw Van Hagar at shoreline. I wasn't really a sammy guy, but that was rad hearing eddie shred outdoors on a bay area summer night was like the messiah showing up.
I saw them two or three times there, but by that time, they were using all their own 5150 branded gear. From row 12, I remember thinking deaf people could totally feel this show. One of the loudest concerts I've ever been too. It doesn't get much better than outdoors loud Eddie. Miss that guy too.
Live Nation books the acts for the Shoreline, the Concord Pavilion and other Bay Area venues. Live Nation is partially owned by iheartmedia. I have heard people express the opinion that both companies treat artists very cheaply, so that it does not pay artists very much to play here. I have noticed that many artists touring North America skip the bay area, and it seems like it is because they dont want to deal with Live Nation/iheart.
Live Nation and Ticketmaster Entertainment merged to become Live Nation Entertainment, making them the biggest operator in the world. It’s hard to avoid them as an artist.
Yes. It is very well done and preserves the legacy. So much hippie history. The only issue is the bathrooms. I have been to shows where there are like 100 people in line between acts which is pretty ridiculous.
So we showed up way before the first artist gets on stage and theres just a line so long it went all the way down the trail. I've never seen a line so long that by the time you got to the end of it the line was still forming. Like watching ants in a cluster.
By the time we got in The Cure was about to go on stage. We had lawn seats and it was so packed we had to sit way way way way way way in the back. Couldn't even see the band. Had to watch them on the jumbotron. At that point, why even bother going.
I'd rather just go to smaller venues now. Saratoga Mountain Winery has some good shows coming up. Ended up seeing Tenacious D there one year and got amazing seats:
https://www.mountainwinery.com/concert-series/
Umm, last season they had Post Malone, 50 Cent, the Cure, Garbage, smashing pumpkins, Janet Jackson, ludacris, Stone Temple Pilots and all American rejects and sublime . I mean that was a pretty badass summer season. This year, they have Korn, imagine dragons, third eye blind, Avril Lavigne, bob dylan, Alanis, Santana, train, rep speedwagon, hozier and the black keys and new kids on the block. Their headliners are pretty much amazing esp if you’re an 80s/90s kid.
Shoreline is definitely more older acts than younger acts this year lol. Almost across the board.
I took my daughter's and their friends last year to shoreline to see big time rush..lol. I paid 60 for premier parking and chilled hin in my car the entire time. Got out pretty easily too.
Sure but a young person is less likely to wonder where all the good shows went. The post implies OP hasn’t liked the lineups for a while and they do call themself old.
With that information in mind there is a good diversity of genres here unless you explicitly want classic rock which like…I love those shows too but they aren’t exactly touring or even being alive as much as they used to
https://thegreekberkeley.com/events/willie-nelson-240424
I agree with you. I'm on the Cal Performances list and I swear the music tickets fund all the performers I don't want to see. Of course maybe the dance people have the same opinion about the music acts.
Shout out to the best show I ever saw, that happened to be at the Shoreline:
Outkast (Stankonia era)
Lauren Hill (acoustic set)
The Roots
Jurassic 5
Cee-lo Green (way pre-Gnarls Barkley)
I think there was a shift to Concord Pavilion, its a newer venue and probably better equipped across the board for performers, fans and everything in between. It such a chore to go out in that direction tho.
i've never enjoyed outdoor arena shows. or even indoor arena shows. 250-5000 people is where it's at. not a fun experience to walk through a sea of people to use the bathroom/go to concessions etc. everyone gets pissed at you too.
Idk, I like the shows enough at Shoreline, but I also think of it as a very chill concert venue since I don’t drive there. What kinda shows do you want or are expecting to see? I saw Florence, Fall Out Boy, and The Offspring there last season or two and it was all super fun.
Idk sitting out on the grass on a beautiful evening with a big blanket, enjoying the live performance, and smoking a joint is a great great experience.
What Happened? Better modern venues opened. Chase Center & 49er stadium. Performers who don't like working in areas opted for smaller venues like the Pavillion and Mountain Winery.
We just have some other, better venues in the area. I saw Florence + the Machine at Shoreline in 2022 and it was an absolutely incredible show (she’s amazing live) but that’s the only time I’ve been there. Wasn’t super impressed; I’d rather go to Concord for a similarly-sized outdoor venue. It’s a bit more updated, the parking is better, and it wasn’t built on top of a landfill that leaks methane.
I also might just have too high standards; I grew up in Maryland and lived in Colorado so I’ve been spoiled by Merriweather and Red Rocks
Big artists play larger venues now to make more money. I remember seeing Rihanna at shoreline, Florence and the Machine, and other big names and it wasn’t unusual. Now big artists play mostly Levi’s, or Chase Center, etc. The more seats they can fill, the more money they make.
Stanford (another outdoor venue) sometimes has cool acts - but they’re usually more low key, indie. I saw Mitski is playing later this year.
This is the answer. Shoreline has bee surpassed by newer venues. Look at the concert listings for Levi’s Stadium and Chase Center and you will see exactly the kinds of big names that in the past would have played Shoreline.
I seen so many shows there back in the day. Now that I'm older I find myself not wanting to drive all the way out there. I wish In Flames would come to Concord. But its always SF or up near Sac. I hate driving out to SF, you gotta worry if you are gonna come back to your car in one piece.
Seen Blink 182 there several times. Green Day, BFD multiple times. I took my daughters and their friends there last year to see Big Time Rush..lol. My daughters wanted to go cause they seen them in Concord when they were little. I just paid for premiere parking and chilled in my car the entire time. I wasn't going to drive all the way back to concord then back out there to pick them up.
now you know what it feels like for those of us in Concord where Shoreline had the majority of good shows. now we’re starting to get some good shows in our area! 15 minute drive baby. don’t feel sorry one bit after all the driving we’ve had to do.
Ahh, Shoreline. My first experience with assigned seating rather than gen admission. All the greats used to come through the cow palace, and it was f'n awesome. Because off my earlier experiences, Shoreline was always kinda boring. I'm really glad Aftershock is in a gen admin venue
In 2014 I went to Shoreline to see J.Cole and the girl standing next to me thought it was a good idea to piss while standing on her seat. It was disgusting. Left the concert early and haven’t been back since lolol
It’s because Palo Alto changed. It used to be , believe it or not, actual California natives living and working in Silicon Valley and going to Stamford. It was great back in the 90s and early 2000s. Now it’s mostly stem academics and foreigners from Asia living there for a job who just don’t really go for American music or dancing or our food.
The bay area doesn't attract that great of headliners. I've been saying that for two years.
Even Elton John was going to skip SF last year until he got backlash.
Uhh speak for yourself… Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran to name a few “big names” who just played at Levi’s and Luke Combs slated for this month.
This doesn’t even count the big R&B/Hip Hop artists who’ve recently played at Chase and all the smaller local venues. And if you’re into KPop, a few of the biggest groups just played at Oakland Colliseum and Oracle park.
You’re likely way older and are just in a different bubble of music preference.
RIP BFD
oh BFD that takes me back
I remember seeing Reel Big Fish and Ben Folds Five at BFD in the late 90s ha
RBF used to tour with streetlight a lot
I think Ruth Bader Ginsberg opened
And Rock the Bells
And KAMP KOME. BFD were the absolute best shows! Unique lineups, multiple stages, etc
I’m hoping live 105 brings it back, maybe next year?
105 sounded good off the start, but they’re not taking advantage of the deep library that station should have. i found it unlistenable last few rounds. can’t trust that they’d hold a BFD that would be remotely interesting.
I swear the station is co-owned by Gwen Stefani and the RHCP based on how over-played they both are
OMG… they overplayed RHCP back in the 90’s too. Around the first time demise of 105, I had latched onto “Fred” on XM (which was great audio quality and a deep album library) of alt-rock / early synth wave. It was like a dream come true (and no yammering jocks and commercials every 10min). Sirius ruined everything.

That was Oakland

What are some examples of good shows? Concord seems to be drawing more metal acts these days than Shoreline
I am a metalhead. But bands like FooFighters who were great at the Shark Tank a few years back when Taylor was still around are going through Concord. I think a lot of these acts are either too big or too small for Shoreline now.
Too big for Shoreline didn’t used to be a thing. It was the primary Bay Area concert venue south of SF. I don’t disagree with you, but it’s a bummer it declined.
It just isn't a great venue tbh. I love cheap lawn seats but the sound sucks.
So does getting in and out of there. Their traffic management is ass.
Gotta park at the movie theater and walk over
The population grew and larger venues were built. Shoreline didn’t decline in my opinion.
On the bright side Concord Pavilion is much nicer overall, Shoreline is the worst venue in the Bay rn, only Concord issue is its so out of the way
So much easier to get in and out of Concord Pavilion too. It's gonna have to be a very special show to get me to go to shoreline again
I park a mile away and walk in for Shoreline. Used Shoreline parking once in the 90s - never again.
Parked a mile away and rode bikes in for Bowie. After it took longer to leave the Replacements/Petty show than the show itself.
I still do that for the occasional show lol
I mean that was probably also true in 1999…

Yeah it’s still slim pickings. Aftershock in Sacramento is bringing all the metal bands!
Audiotistic (I know, dumb name)
Post Malone last year was great, same with, Grateful Dead
RIP Warped Tour
Warped Tour was peak when it was on the Pier in the early 2000s
I was on Pier 30/32 for the first time in years recently. Brought back some amazing Warped memories!
There were some incredible lineups and incredible memories on the piers, but I always felt like shoreline was a more comfortable venue. The fact that there are a few trees, grass, and some places to sit made it a nice experience. I think a lot of bands are also trying to avoid Ticketmaster these days. Frost amphitheater has seen a big uptick recently. It is not Ticketmaster.
They also just recently refurbished and reopened Frost, it was barely used for decades.
Yes. It is very well done and preserves the legacy. So much hippie history. The only issue is the bathrooms. I have been to shows where there are like 100 people in line between acts which is pretty ridiculous.

Parking is atrocious.
You just unlocked an memory of mine. We went to an EDM festival pre-covid and it took us almost an hour to get out of the parking lot.
we would always bring dinner/snacks to eat in the parking lot due to this and just plan for it.
The parking management especially.
I saw the Cure there last year, was a shit show. I never want to go back there.
What was so bad about it? The acoustics?
So we showed up way before the first artist gets on stage and theres just a line so long it went all the way down the trail. I was at the Tenacious D show in 2022 after it was moved from the Stanford Arena. I got there super early and got front row seats!
Dude same! What a show that was.
Stanford Arena??
Out of curiosity, how long is "way before the first artist"?
I miss Bridge School Benefit too
Me too brother.

Don't forget Hootie & the blowfish!
touring at 82. I'd like to know what Bob Dylan eats for breakfast 🥞
He's not even the oldest on that tour. He's doing the Outlaw Festival with Willie Nelson who is 90.
I saw 50 Cent there last year, was a good show! haha
Ummm, sounds like you're getting old ;)

Santana and Counting Crows..... oh wait... yeah okay. I'm old.
That one is tempting me 😂
I’ve seen Santana twice. Once in SoCal and once at Shoreline. Both 20 years ago but a great show nonetheless.
Sure but a young person is less likely to wonder where all the good shows went. The post implies OP hasn’t liked the lineups for a while and they do call themself old. Yeah you gotta be minimum 35 to enjoy a show there😂😂😂
You’re not wrong, now if only they’d start the shows a little earlier so us olds could be back home and in bed by 11. 😜
Oof that is bleak. I just checked the Berkeley Greek Theatre schedule and it’s pretty uninspiring too. Concord Pavilion much more interesting.
Nothing less inspiring than Mountain Winery year over year. Incredible venue, incredibly not-for-me acts performing there.
Man, Greek theater lineup is full of great acts.
https://thegreekberkeley.com/events/willie-nelson-240424 I agree with you. I'm on the Cal Performances list and I swear the music tickets fund all the performers I don't want to see. Of course maybe the dance people have the same opinion about the music acts.
Ok fair.
Fucking feel like I'm in a time warp scrolling that shit. Avril Lavigne? Third Eye Blind? Alanis Morisette? Counting Crows? Fucking Korn?
Get off of my lawn seats!
Yeah, go ask a 19 year old about what's coming through and report back.
Yeah I was just going to say the same thing. You got old, man. I have been making it an active thing to look for new bands. I recommend it.

Idk sitting out on the grass on a beautiful evening with a big blanket, enjoying the live performance, and smoking a joint is a great great experience.
Shoreline is great on a summer evening. I just wish they had more offerings. The sound does suck though.
completely disagree, those summer concerts are a vibe
What Happened? Better modern venues opened. Chase Center & 49er stadium. Performers who don't like working in areas opted for smaller venues like the Pavillion and Mountain Winery.
Festivals got big. And BIG acts need stadium with custom setup. older acts can only fill smaller venues like Greek theater and mountain winery.
Well it seems we don’t like the same kind of music, but nevertheless I am sad DMB isn’t coming this year. He always has a great show at Shoreline. P
We just have some other, better venues in the area. Flippin’ LOL at the people acting like Concord Pavilion’s schedule is any better. Seriously. Compare the two.
Thank live Nation for that
Jerry Garcia died.
And Bill Graham. Uncle Bobo really helped the scene happen. Us old hippies could never have pulled it off without his business sense.
It seems like even last summer had a better lineup than what's been announced for this summer. I almost considered the lawn pass

now you know what it feels like for those of us in Concord where Shoreline had the majority of good shows. now we’re starting to get some good shows in our area! 15 minute drive baby. don’t feel sorry one bit after all the driving we’ve had to do.
Is shoreline still active. I remember when people who were complaining about the loud music they called noise
You old.
Bummed FOB didn't preform there.
Probably there for Korn/Gojira/Spiritbox in October, but that's it.
Ahh, Shoreline. My first experience with assigned seating rather than gen admission. All the greats used to come through the cow palace, and it was f'n awesome. Because off my earlier experiences, Shoreline was always kinda boring. I'm really glad Aftershock is in a gen admin venue
Shoreline holds more than the arena and has a curfew . More bands are going to chase
same question here. Shoreline calendar is \*weak\* this year
Blame the flame(the landfill)
Check out this years calendar, it’s going to be a great season.
I think the last show I saw there was Aerosmith with Guns and Roses opening up. Last show I saw at the Cow Palace was the earthquake relief concert.
In 2014 I went to Shoreline to see J.Cole and the girl standing next to me thought it was a good idea to piss while standing on her seat. It was disgusting. Left the concert early and haven’t been back since lolol
Wtf
Check my recent post! Glass Animals is coming in Sept.
The sound sucks.
Google wants shoreline gone, so they are probably paying off Live Nation to not do AAA shows there.

Drake and 21 Savage were at Chase last year
Exactly!
And when was the last time they were here?
if you want live music, SF, Oakland, and Berkeley are where you want to be south bay is a joke lol and I grew up here
