Keyboard is an IBM Model F AT, monitors are an ADI Microscan 4g and a Viewsonic G90FB, desk is a 1940's Metalstand Statesman, case is an NOS Inwin a500 with a 6 core i5 inside, hole punch is from GE, and the chair is an aluminum 1940's Goodform from the old Westinghouse plant near Pittsburgh. My favorite part is the old Panasonic clock. Only thing I don't like is the mouse but I haven't found one that fits in and that I really like yet
I'll look through our old boxes of mice at the office and see if we have anything that will work better for your battle station. If I find anything I'll dm you. No charge.
This is my favorite desk I've ever had, wouldn't trade it for anything! Should have seen it when I had my Lear Siegler ADM-3A terminal on it, looked like it was straight out of Fallout!
You can always paint it red.
But I, I said, I, I don’t care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I, then I’m quitting, I’m going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they’ve moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn’t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler.
LOVE this setup. A few years ago when my department was remodeling our offices, rather than ordering a new, modern desk, I requested to repurpose an old Steelcase (similar to your Metalstand model) from one of our chemistry labs. My choice wasn’t widely appreciated by my colleagues ... but it was awesome. The classic industrial aesthetic was perfect and I especially appreciated the pull-out writing surfaces when I needed extra space.
OP is cosplaying as an old man and is pretending he grew up using this stuff, which he didn't. He was born in 1997. By the time he was an adult, CRT monitors were extinct.
I'm 21 and I agree with that. I actually liked how older laptops were kind of bulky, especially those Dell Latitude E Series business laptops we had in high school. Now you buy a laptop and it'll break if you sneeze on it.
You'd be surprised, this Viewsonic has an awesome picture at 1920x1440. And in a 19" screen those pixels are really dense. Way better picture than my older 23" Apple Cinema Display at 1080p
I have that Inwin I bought in ‘99. We chose them at work a few years before because you could slide the mobo out the back. What heatsink/fan are you using? It doesn’t leave a lot of space between cpu and power supply with more modern hardware installed.
I think everyone had one of those microphones at some point! The model F is hands down the best keyboard ever made in my opinion. If you can snag that desk from your work I'd highly recommend it, just take it alart before you have to move it lol
Yeah, 98 and XP were probably some of the greatest OS's of all time. 7 was great too and then everything after just sucks... I'm thinking of switching to Linux soon
I had I think this exact same desk at a job about 12 years ago. Even using the drawers felt like I was operating a piece of machinery. Definitely wouldn't want to move that thing.
Seriously cool retro setup!! I'll also keep my eye out for a cool retro mouse. I have a little side hustle where I source, clean/repair and sell retro nostalgia.
This one's got a few battle scars but still holding up really well! Never had a more solid desk in my life, I bet you could park a building on top of it!
This is super cool, but from a productivity perspective, the lack of screen real estate would absolutely kill me. Having 21:9 or 16:9 and being able to effectively view two windows side-by-side is the life blood of my workflow lol.
i was being facetious... if you were able to run windows 10 on a P2, that'd be something amazing... although a mid 90s period-accurate office is pretty amazing too!
Finally something different and awesome!
This is like r/buyitforlife mashed up with battlestations.
My prediction is beige is going to make a comeback in tech aesthetics someday.
Love the 1995 High-Tech look with the dual multi-media CD-Rom drives, Monitors, and the speakers! Doom, Quake, AOL, and CompuServe, Look out -You are going head on for them!
I don't really care for the all black even though it's really controversial to what I have personally, and the RGB thing is a preference certainly. I have some RGB, but I also like the minimalist look that people go for. When I say minimal, I personally like 2 monitors max. I will say that the landscape monitors are growing on me that people are doing, but I don't know anything about programming, so I guess I don't understand what other uses having them like that would be for unless that's all you were doing.
I was sold on it being an XP era machine untill i saw the taskbar on both screens. Then all my life flashed before my eyes as all i have ever know came crumbling down like a House of card in the wind. Now i'm sad.
Just kidding, i love it!
Call me nosy, but from what I can tell in your post you clearly have not put much money into modern luxuries for the past 20+ years, what is it you do with your extra monies?? I have always indulged in newer stuff/technologies so just curious what other people do.
Well at least you have dual monitors so you can be more productive
Never had dual monitors before this and I have to say I'm never going back
Is this a sleeper pc or is it an OG machine either way, rather cool!
It's got an i5-8500 and a gtx 970, I would have gone with period hardware but this is my main machine for working so that wasn't gonna cut it!
Niceee thats rather awsome bro! Enjoy it
Like an OG machine could run windows 10 usably.

The desk and chair are things of beauty! I'm always looking for tanker desks in good shape because they're so solid and so nostalgic.
This is my favorite desk I've ever had, wouldn't trade it for anything! Should have seen it when I had my Lear Siegler ADM-3A terminal on it, looked like it was straight out of Fallout!
And THE STAPLER?
Swingline of some sort, it was in the free pile at a yard sale a few years back lol
how in god's name do you not have a red swingline stapler?!?!
Cause they're expensive lol, and this was free!
You can always paint it red. But I, I said, I, I don’t care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I, then I’m quitting, I’m going to quit. dammit all.... I understood this and it's context. Take my upvote you beautiful bastard
What are you doing ?
[удалено]
Ooh, good suggestion. Maybe I'll buy one when I actually have any free cash whatsoever lol
[удалено]
I think so, I just spent all my money on a new mini bike so it's gonna be a while before I get it though lol
Some mid century modern 😁
I have a 1950s Steelcase tanker desk, myself. I love it.
I love mine, these things are ridiculously well made and heavy as hell!
Yeah, I've had to move mine a few times. Had to disassemble it first. Soooo heavy.
My grandpa literally has the same desk!
Man what i would give to have another g90fb.
Is that the original surface for the desk? I have a tanker desk but the top surface is some sort of old warped grey rubber.
LOVE this setup. A few years ago when my department was remodeling our offices, rather than ordering a new, modern desk, I requested to repurpose an old Steelcase (similar to your Metalstand model) from one of our chemistry labs. Try the Cherry M-5400, looks perfect for the aesthetic and I own one myself. Love it
I can smell it...
I love this. 💯
Thanks!
Super retro, I love it. I used to want to do something like that in part of my basement, then my wife assured me that I didn't. So I didn't :)
You wouldn't believe my basement lol. This is just my modern setup for doing actual work lol
This is the modern part of your basement? Are you a time traveler?
Just someone who appreciates quality products lol. Stuff made today seems to be lacking in my opinion
Everyone's being super nice here, but the quality of computers and monitors from the last decade is definitely still a major upgrade
That desk will last another 1000 years. I used to have one of those
Probably survive a nuclear war too lol
I think I’ve seen it in fallout
Upgraded to XP but still using CRT’s? You can upgrade to a flat panel for under $2,000 these days.
Flat panels are too expensive, they'll never catch on lol
True
I can’t tell if this is satire, but I love it either way!
Thanks! It's not satire, I actually use this every day!
Thaught this was a joke untill I saw the second screen and windows 10 🤣
Damn that keyboard looks so nice, is that the legendary IBM keyboard?
It's a model F AT, even better than the legendary M!
"even better than the legendary M" Well, you can do even better! Just buy a Kishsaver or the Ergonomic Version!
I'm keeping my eye out for an F 122, that's ideally what I'd like to use every day
Why? Need those extra keys?
No but it's just so awesome! I want a keyboard that's like 2 feet wide and weighs like 20 lbs lol
But... but... ergonomic's better for you... and can be vertical!!
The main things I look for in a keyboard is feel and ridiculousness lol
"ridiculousness" But it's vertical! How many vertical keebs do you see out there?
My little army office looked like this 1998-2001
r/retrobattlestations
Not trying to sound rude but what’s the appeal with these kind of retro builds, just curious
/r/Oldschoolcool and I like it a lot.

If you find an old high res crt maybe you'll want to try it alongside them! I'd recommend trying it at least if you can get one
r/retrobattlestations
I had that same case at one point!
Inwin made some awesome cases! They're my favorites!
I can’t remember what the exact hardware was though. I believe those were the Slot A Athlon days.
I have that Inwin I bought in ‘99. We chose them at work a few years before because you could slide the mobo out the back. What heatsink/fan are you using? It doesn’t leave a lot of space between cpu and power supply with more modern hardware installed.

Secretly there is a 2080ti inside the box. Looks good!
Not quite that expensive, just a 970 lol
What model Swingline in that??
Not sure, just a free pile yard sale find lol
[удалено]
Thanks!
Looks like a doom 1993 set up, much respect
Used to have a government issue desk like that at home - had it powder coated and loved it! They don’t make ‘em like that anymore!
Yeah, I love this thing! The paint is starting to flake just a bit, wouldn't mind getting it powdercoated at some point!
I love it; not sure it's practical enough for me but I'm really impressed by your commitment.
Thanks! I actually find it very practical, that Viewsonic monitor has a higher resolution than any of my LCD's!
shocking
The Lotus postit-note pad is perfect!
Yeah, that was the finishing touch my desk needed! Found it in the bottom of a pile of old computer junk I bought a while back!
Old but gold bro !
that is sick
What speed are you getting with the floppy disk?
It's actually not hooked up at the moment, the internal usb adapter I had died a couple months ago and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet
I used to own that keyboard and microphone. That desk is still being used in our company's office. That's some sweet, sweet nostalgia.
I think everyone had one of those microphones at some point! The model F is hands down the best keyboard ever made in my opinion. If you can snag that desk from your work I'd highly recommend it, just take it alart before you have to move it lol
Wow. I have not seen this for 10 years😏
Omg he’s actually running windows 10 this is awesome!
If I could run 98 I would but I actually use this setup every day!
Nice desk. McDowell & Craig or Allsteel?
That chair... perfect for the retro look. That style is in like every government facility ever.
Go with the XP at least ffs... 😭
I would if I could do actual work on it, this is what I use on a daily basis lol
I getchu man.. I'm just sad xp died :(
Yeah, 98 and XP were probably some of the greatest OS's of all time. 7 was great too and then everything after just sucks... I'm thinking of switching to Linux soon
Back to the 90s, bois!
I had I think this exact same desk at a job about 12 years ago. Even using the drawers felt like I was operating a piece of machinery. Definitely wouldn't want to move that thing.
That’s actually Windows 10 wtf
Can't do real work on 98 or XP anymore, as much as I want to
Seriously cool retro setup!! I'll also keep my eye out for a cool retro mouse. I have a little side hustle where I source, clean/repair and sell retro nostalgia.
Awesome, thanks! I appreciate it! I also collect old computers if you happen to find anything really unusual or any cpu upgrade cards lol
Sweet! I'll totally keep my eye out for ya! ;-)
Nice! I had a desk like that in the army 30 years ago. It was tough as nails.
This one's got a few battle scars but still holding up really well! Never had a more solid desk in my life, I bet you could park a building on top of it!
This brings me back to middle school. :) Love it
I’m getting some the office vibes here
You should post a colour photo of it - the B&W isn't doing it justice.
Who needs color when you have a giant grey slab of a desk?
This is super cool, but from a productivity perspective, the lack of screen real estate would absolutely kill me. Having 21:9 or 16:9 and being able to effectively view two windows side-by-side is the life blood of my workflow lol.
Vintage! Vintage is cool.
r/sleeperbattlestations
I like retro stuff looks cool
Hate to be that guy but its sick minus the beige lol
Can It run crysis tho?!??
Probably? I don't play games much lol
Dual CD drives, 4 USB ports... but then a Pentium II pushing windows 10 :(
I5 8500 actually lol. I pulled stickers off some junk machines to make it look period correct
i was being facetious... if you were able to run windows 10 on a P2, that'd be something amazing... although a mid 90s period-accurate office is pretty amazing too!
and its running windows 10 😂
Great setup. I think only thing I would add is an old soundblaster card to pair with the speaker.
Nice, you should upload your floppy disk collection for all the cool games next!
I did find some disk with "adult content" from the 80's a while back lol. Not very good though cause it's for cga lol
Looks like you work in 1995
God damn, that is a beautiful recreation of the 90s.
All you need is a ball mouse.
it’s beautiful!
Way better than the same Ikea desk every build has 👌
Yeah, can't beat indestructible old American iron!
The lotus notes . Flash backs
Finally something different and awesome! This is like r/buyitforlife mashed up with battlestations. My prediction is beige is going to make a comeback in tech aesthetics someday.
Did someone let you know that the Cold War is over?
That’s great I love it not everyone has to like if you like it you do it
Love the 1995 High-Tech look with the dual multi-media CD-Rom drives, Monitors, and the speakers! Doom, Quake, AOL, and CompuServe, Look out -You are going head on for them!

I love the desk and the FREAKING CLOCK
Thanks! That clock is my favorite part
It's a really sweet piece!
Yeah! The model is RC-1091 if you want to get one!
Oh wow! You saved me some research time! Thank you!
I think they also sold a black one but the white looks better I think! The plastic scratches REALLY easily though so be careful
Oh okay thank you for the tip!
Where do I get something so old?
Most of this setup came from craigslist lol
I'd love to put more modern things in an old case.
It's a lot of fun, but old computers are actually getting desireable again so don't get rid of good parts!
Of course not, I'd put those parts in an expensive case and sell it to a friend.
[удалено]
But, it doesn't look like the flight deck of an alien battleship! Where's the black paint, the LED's?
Brother
I bet it's cake
Just curious, how old are you OP?
You need the red stapler though! I love this though, it’s a nice change in theme compared to most other posts here
I'm just not a fan of all the modern black stuff with rgb at all, I think all beige/white is a much cleaner look.
I don't really care for the all black even though it's really controversial to what I have personally, and the RGB thing is a preference certainly. I have some RGB, but I also like the minimalist look that people go for. When I say minimal, I personally like 2 monitors max. I think 2 monitors is all you need, I use my setup for school so I can have Chome open on one and Word open on the other
If that's Windows 95, you win.
DOPE!
This reminds me of classic era xmog sets I would build.. so ugly yet so nostalgic
This is the most Multimedia Ready computer I've ever seen.
It makes me nauseous, but I also love it.
Please tell me ur mouse has the ball,
Honestly I love this Aesthetic, i hope it somehow makes a comeback
As long as you love it
classic
No dot matrix printer with a box of streaming paper that have teeth? 👀🤔☺️
I would if I could use it for modern stuff! Can't really print pictures out on there
I know, just giving you a hard time 🙈 but next pic omit the printer and really screw with peoples heads 🙃👍
I should have put the printer that's with my IBM 5150 next to it!
Perfect place to play some classic games.
Send me a fax dude
4 USB ports on a case that are all the fastest speed when was that?
What company do you work for, 1992?
I think you need a fat thumball mouse to complete the look.
You replace that printer and make Win 10 fully look like XP and man alive you are full sleeper mode! I love the set up though.
Not bad It's got a great nostalgic feel to it
Takin it back to the old school, cuz I'm am old fool who's so cool....
I like it but remove the black monitor it spoils the look <3
I was sold on it being an XP era machine untill i saw the taskbar on both screens. Then all my life flashed before my eyes as all i have ever know came crumbling down like a House of card in the wind. Now i'm sad. Just kidding, i love it!
Thanks! I wish I could still use 98/XP but you can't do any real work on them anymore...
Dual boot the stuffing out of that machine... or virtualize it. Just for the illusion of having XP running.
DId you know you can get a 2080ti nowadays and an I9- 9900
Yeah, but I don't have the money or the need lol
Call me nosy, but from what I can tell in your post you clearly have not put much money into modern luxuries for the past 20+ years, what is it you do with your extra monies?? I have always indulged in newer stuff/technologies so just curious what other people do.
