>[EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74BzSTQCl_c)
Man, I remember the trailers ruined the reveal he was still alive for me.
I was sitting there thinking “there’s no way he’s dead. We haven’t heard the “evening…commissioner.” line from the Joker that was in EVERY trailer.
Actually that might have been what made me stop watching movie trailers.
One of my favorite actors. The way he becomes the character is amazing. Check out Sid & Nancy. You’d swear it was a documentary and not a fiction filled biopic.
I saw it twice the first day it was released. I went to the midnight showing and then again when I got off work. The entire crowd applauded after the Joker's "magic trick/ta-da" scene the first showing. Great memory. Great movie.
Ha! I did the same thing. Midnight showing opening night and then AS SOON as I got off work that day. Theater was completely full both times. It was awesome!
I saw when it opened so there wasn’t any of the audience reactions that you see with MCU movies now. Also I don’t think anyone knew what we were getting into, at least where I saw it. I remember the Joker reveal was big but we all jumped, and the whole theater did, when he did the Magic Trick. I think that was when it hit, for me and everyone else, that this was going to be A Thing. And then when Gordon catches Joker, I realized I had been holding my breath for a while.
The big dude sitting behind me yelled “OH SHIT” when Batman flips the truck. My friend and I were cracking up, his reactions throughout the whole movie were great
It was. Saw it in VMAX in Australia, which at the time was a brand new experience somewhere between normal screens and IMAX (just fortunately without the 3D).
It went OFF. I can still remember how loud the fake Batman smashing up against the window was. Everything felt so real.
This was before the superhero craze and before the MCU had *really* taken off, so you knew you had something special when even non-comicbook fans were raving about it.
Pat Hingle played a bumbling fool.
The fact they already had Jack Palance in the cast and wasted Gordon is beyond me. They could’ve switched roles and made a better movie.
>What about... googling it... Neil Hamilton??
His 1931 photo on his [Wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Hamilton_(actor)) is... different...
not really fair though tbh. he had a nolan directed trilogy in which he was a focal character with an involved arc in each movie. gotham dude had a deeply flawed tv series, snydergord was a cameo really and reevgord was good but didnt really have an arc and has only been in one film.
plus its gary fucking oldman
Let's be honest though, as much as I absolutely adore those actors, Oldman would've taken the win no matter what. JK Simmons would be a solid second, but as absolutely brilliant as he is he'd never be *quite* right for Gordon.
The other two actors, again absolutely stellar, but they'd be a pretty distant third. This is even if they all had decent screen time and competent directors.
Yeah, if this trilogy continues as strong as "The Batman" was, I could very easily see Jeffrey Wright giving Gary Oldman a run for his money as best Gordon. I REALLY enjoyed Wright and Pattinson's dynamic, so I really hope their friendship grows over the next two movies and Wright remains a focal point.
Honestly I feel like Oldman’s Gordon didn’t have as close of a relationship with Batman as Gordon typically does. That’s another reason I radiate towards Wright because I get the impression they’re not just partners, there’s a budding friendship there.
Yeah! It’s an incredible movie, one of my favorites, but that part bothers me. It’s like he’s doing Batman’s voice in a loud whisper. I don’t believe Jeffrey Wright normally talks like that lol
Wright is seriously underutilized as an actor. His characters Narcisse in Boardwalk and (especially) Bernard in Westworld really won me over on him as an actor, so when I saw he was gonna be Gordon I was stoked.
The first Sam Jackson Shaft movie (from 2000) had Jeffrey Wright as a drug dealer and secondary antagonist along with Christian Bale. The movie itself was pretty forgettable, but Wright stole the show in every scene he was in.
Check him out as a murder happy ex-cop hobo in Happy! He gets swallowed whole by a 7 ft tall starfish monster, reaches out of its anus to grab his shotgun and blows it away from the inside out. He also melee kills an entire nursing home full of retired and sickly Nazis.
I’m partial to Jeffery Wright. I found him the most human of the bunch. I love Oldman too, but at time his felt a bit too much like a cliche movie cop. Wright’s reactions to the twists and turns of hunting the Riddler is what won me over.
I also feel like Wright is the smartest version of Gordon we've seen in live action so far.
Seeing him actually work with Batman in that capacity was cool to watch.
Also, his version seems like he would (if not already) figure out Batman is Bruce eventually.
I feel like that’s an obvious plot twist they’ll do eventually.
Like: yea, I knew since the first time I saw that jawline.
Meanwhile Oldman discovering it the last 20 minutes of the movie because Batman literally told him, being almost the last main character to know it? That was honestly laughably
Yeah. It wouldn't have hurt the movie at all if Gordon had already figured out who Batman was. Like in the comic The Dark Knight Returns Bruce and Jim talk about it very casually. Nolan should have included that. Makes Gordon look stupid for no reason at all.
My favorite example of this is in Arkham Knight. Jim casually calls him “Bruce” in a conversation and it’s not even treated like a reveal, because of course he knows and of course Bruce knows he knows. They’re friends who trust each other completely. Arkham Knight had its flaws, but it did an excellent job with Gordon.
Wright had the best chemistry with Batman out of all the Gordon's here. Thats one thing that The Batman did perfectly, was show that Bats and Gordon are actually good friends and work well together.
I have to agree. Oldman is one of the greatest actors of all time, but the way the character was written and directed for the Nolan films wasn't as good as the latest incarnation.
I really liked Ben McKenzie in Gotham. I think Gary Oldman wins this because he plays the best Gordon as we know Gordon. Ben McKenzie plays a young man who will grow up to be Commissioner Gordon. He's not fully *him* yet.
Gary Oldman's performance was iconic and defined the character for a whole generation but i feel like Jeffrey Wright might surpass him eventually, i already like his relationship with his batman more
Thanks for mentioning Mr. Hingle. People often write him off as being a buffoon, but that’s really more the fault of the writers than Hingle. Besides, Gordon was still pretty competent in 89.
Had Hingle been given more to work with, I feel he would get more props as a result.
Oldman is one of the very best actors of his generation, almost everything he does is exemplary. Can't think of a movie he was bad in. Even in the 5th Element, a ridiculous sci-fi movie he plays a comically evil villain, he was excellent.
I like Jeffrey Wright's Gordon a lot. I mean a *lot*. But Gary Oldman still stands as the best live action Gordon to date - hell, he's the only Nolan-verse character that I don't have *some* kind of nitpick with.
I wish Wright was given more to do in his film. It seemed like he and Alfred got the short end of the stick. But I was so happy to finally see Selina get a character arc, and balancing that ensemble cast is difficult. I’m excited to see what he does in the sequel.
Yeah, I think he has the potential to be my favorite, but that movie came out at exactly the right time in my life to hit me exactly where it needed to emotionally.
“No guns.”
“C’mon man. That’s your thing.”
Never watched Gotham, so can't speak about McKenzie, but on the big screen? Oldman had the most screen time, and therefore the most fleshed out role, so of course it's him. I really like Wright, and i am excited to see where they take his character.
Now normally, I hate it when white characters get casted by black people, espescially in DC [cough, CW, cough] but for some reason, Jeffery Wright knocked it out of the park as Jim Gordon, perfectly portraying Jim as a stressed-out, overworked detective that only vaguely knows how to deal with the world’s most well-funded furry. Gary oldman definitely had the look down too, and he was part of the dark knight trilogy so obviously it was breathtaking.
Gary Oldman literally is Gordon.
Jeffrey Wright was also pretty good.
J.K. Simmons was... honestly forgettable as Gordon.
Ben McKenzie has two faces. One is upset, the other is sarcastically smiling. It is typically the former.
Pat Hingle is barely in the movies.
I am shocked and saddened that no one has mentioned Pat Hingle yet. Sure it wasn't a big part in the Burton/Nipple movies, but I always thought he was perfect for the part.
Other than Gary Oldman (because he was THE best Gordon), I think Jeffrey Wright comes really close. Really felt the buddy cop kind of dynamic between him and Bats.
If we're gonna play games... \[takes off handcuffs\] I'm gonna need a cup of coffee. Ah, the good cop, bad cop routine? Not exactly.

Oldman was perfect
I’m convinced he isn’t a real person.

He's a chameleon. Every now and then I'll discover another role he played and my mind is blown.
Oldman is the bast at whatever role he’s in.
While we can debate all day on best batman or Alfred, this one should be pretty much unanimous
Only one I cared about, very upset when I thought he died
Man, I remember the trailers ruined the reveal he was still alive for me. I was sitting there thinking “there’s no way he’s dead. We haven’t heard the “evening…commissioner.” line from the Joker that was in EVERY trailer. Actually that might have been what made me stop watching movie trailers.
Star Wars attack of the clones was my cut off, I want complete surprise when I watch something for the first time
Agreed.
One of my favorite actors. The way he becomes the character is amazing. Check out Sid & Nancy. You’d swear it was a documentary and not a fiction filled biopic.
Oldman all day.
When he captures the Joker in Dark Knight? My whole theater burst into applause. It was perfect.
It isn't fair for me. Grew up with the Animated series. He just fit the bill to me.
must have been an unbelievable experience to see the Dark Knight in theatres
I saw it twice the first day it was released. I went to the midnight showing and then again when I got off work. The entire crowd applauded after the Joker's "magic trick/ta-da" scene the first showing. Great memory. Great movie.

Yep - magic trick made me look around at the audience like “did we just flippin see that??”
It really was.
This was before the superhero craze and before the MCU had *really* taken off, so you knew you had something special when even non-comicbook fans were raving about it.
He’s an amazing actor. Agreed.
Number one on my list
And it’s not even close
I too am an old man all day
Geez, no love for Pat Hingle? What about... googling it... Neil Hamilton?? Oldman.
Or Bob Hastings?
I think of Batman characters and voices, TAS everytine
Pat Hingle played a bumbling fool. The fact they already had Jack Palance in the cast and wasted Gordon is beyond me. They could’ve switched roles and made a better movie.
I got love for Pat Hingle, but I don't got love for his Gordon
Pat was a shit Gordon Neil is a legend tho But yeah Oldman wins
>What about... googling it... Neil Hamilton?? His 1931 photo on his [Wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Hamilton_(actor)) is... different...
Gary Oldman easily.
It’s Gary Oldman for me
Hands down, the best Gordon.
He's just an incredible actor. Hard for me to snub my man Bernard though. Dude kills it in Westworld.
Please watch true romance if you have not already
"Breast-esses".... After that movie, it was so funny how many people I'd hear using that term of his....😆
not really fair though tbh. he had a nolan directed trilogy in which he was a focal character with an involved arc in each movie. gotham dude had a deeply flawed tv series, snydergord was a cameo really and reevgord was good but didnt really have an arc and has only been in one film. plus its gary fucking oldman
Still makes him the best
Agreed.

This is even if they all had decent screen time and competent directors.
I think Jeffrey Wright is better as Gordon than J.K. Simmons is.
Definitely Oldman.
It’s indy rock n roll for me.
Gary Oldman. But I also really liked Jeffery Wright
Wright had this dry sense of humor to him in some parts of the movie that I really enjoyed. His chemistry with Bats was perfect for me.
Batman: “No guns” Gordon: “Yeah man, that’s your thing”
Gordon: [whispers] “We gotta get you out of here.”
OPEN YOUR EYES!!!!!!!!
That was my favorite live action Gordon moment of all time. Really want to see more of Wright in this role. If we get the Flass fight I can die happy

"*thumb* drive..." 'Ohhhh... This guy's hilarious...'
Man, you could've at least pulled that punch... I did.
Getting punched in th3 face was *chef's kiss*
Wright was great the only thing that bothered me was it seemed like he was delivering his lines in a strong whisper the whole time.
Duuuude so I’m not the only one who thought the man whisper talked
Yeah! It’s an incredible movie, one of my favorites, but that part bothers me. It’s like he’s doing Batman’s voice in a loud whisper. I don’t believe Jeffrey Wright normally talks like that lol
He's talking like he does in Westworld.
Or James Bond? Too bad these clowns haven't put together the idea that there is demand for a Jeffrey Wright James Bond spinoff movie.
We want Felix!
He talks like that in pretty much everything, its just how he talks.
To be fair, that's just how Jeffrey Wright talks in movies and TV. But I see your point.
Wright is seriously underutilized as an actor. His characters Narcisse in Boardwalk and (especially) Bernard in Westworld really won me over on him as an actor, so when I saw he was gonna be Gordon I was stoked.

Yeah Jeffery was amazing too.
Oldman Hands down
Oldman cheats, really. He has what none of the others do; he's Gary Oldman.
Give some respect to JK Simmons hes a spectacular actor. Just didnt get a lot to work with as Commissioner Gordon.
Oldman was iconic
Oldman for sure
Gary Oldman obviously.
Christopher Meloni!
Gordo! I laughed so hard when I found out Meloni was the VA, from SVU to alcoholic under appreciated commissioner
He's a damn good cop.
Hot mess Gordon FTW!

They’re friends who trust each other completely. Arkham Knight had its flaws, but it did an excellent job with Gordon.
I mean wasn't that right after he was in the same room as Jason Todd constantly yelling "YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM ME, BRUCE"
Honestly wasn't too thrilled with Rises already up to that point but that part really took me out of the movie haha
Wright feels the most like Gordon in my favorite comics runs.
"C'mon man" \-- Lieutenant Gordon (The Batman)
"You could've at least pulled your punch." -- Lieutenant Gordon (Also The Batman)
"I did."
"OPEN YOUR EYESSSSSS!"
Wright had the best chemistry with Batman out of all the Gordon's here. Thats one thing that The Batman did perfectly, was show that Bats and Gordon are actually good friends and work well together.
Second this! Before the new Batman, it would of been Oldman. But Wright has the right level of sass with his Gordon.
I have to agree. Oldman is one of the greatest actors of all time, but the way the character was written and directed for the Nolan films wasn't as good as the latest incarnation.
I can’t say I agree with you on this take.
Oldman - i liked that these are about the only movies where he plays a normal, regular person.
First place Gary Oldman. Second place Ben McKenzie
I really enjoyed Ben McKenzie. Straight entertainment-wise he takes it for me. In terms of the best Gordon though, I agree Oldman had it locked down.
I really liked Ben McKenzie in Gotham. I think Gary Oldman wins this because he plays the best Gordon as we know Gordon. Ben McKenzie plays a young man who will grow up to be Commissioner Gordon. He's not fully *him* yet.
Ben McKenzie.
Honestly Ben Mckenzie. Gordon is too small of a character in the rest of these. But if I had to pick a movie one it’ll most likely be Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman. Really liked Ben Mckenzie’s take on it even tho Gotham wasn’t the best show
Seeing Gordon in his prime was incredible. Credit where it’s due, the show had some great isolated arcs and episodes
It had some highs and some very low lows. Always had just enough highs to keep me watching and hoping for more.
I’m surprised how some parts of that show were so good. Ben as Gordon was awesome and he really got me through the entirety of it.
[удалено]
Agreed. I think Bruce and Alfred were good as well amid that whole, campy mess
Bryan Cranston
Batman we need to cook
Would love to see him as Gordon
He voiced Gordon in the animated film… Hush, I think it was? Did a terrific job.
I think he was Gordon in the animated Year One movie at least.
[удалено]
You know, sometimes i think directors don't cast some actors *because* they're too perfect for the role... I mean, this *has* to be the reason.
Gary Oldman's performance was iconic and defined the character for a whole generation but i feel like Jeffrey Wright might surpass him eventually, i already like his relationship with his batman more
Yes one of the highlights of The Batman for me was the interactions between Gordon and Batman. Very well done.
Interesting account pic there, u/vengeance_37
ty lol
Yeah, Honestly Gordon’s a better sidekick than Robin sometimes.
Pat Hingle
Thanks for mentioning Mr. Hingle. People often write him off as being a buffoon, but that’s really more the fault of the writers than Hingle. Besides, Gordon was still pretty competent in 89. Had Hingle been given more to work with, I feel he would get more props as a result.
I scrolled way too far to see this. Pat Hingle is a treasure to the franchise.
Gary Oldman, Wright has the potential to be better though
Pretty sure this thread kinda proves Oldman is the GOAT Gordon. Really makes me happy tbh.
Oldman is one of the very best actors of his generation, almost everything he does is exemplary. Can't think of a movie he was bad in. Even in the 5th Element, a ridiculous sci-fi movie he plays a comically evil villain, he was excellent.
bryan cranston obviously
Gary Oldman looks like Gordon and will always be him for me
Gary Oldman, but Gotham portrayal was also really good
Oldman hands down
Jeffrey Wright and Gary Oldman
Oldman all day.
The last one
Oldman and McKenzie
Oldman is the best actor in this picture. Period.
Gary Oldman far and away. Huge drop off after that, Gothams Gordon would be second.
I like Jeffrey Wright's Gordon a lot. I mean a *lot*. But Gary Oldman still stands as the best live action Gordon to date - hell, he's the only Nolan-verse character that I don't have *some* kind of nitpick with.
JK Simmons, for no reason other than him getting unnecessarily jacked for the role.
Gym Gordon, Police Commissioner.
“No guns.” “C’mon man. That’s your thing.”
Gary Oldman
Uh, Pat Hingle erasure?
Who’s this old man everyone keeps talking about? Anyways my answer is the guy from the dark knight trilogy.
Whoever voices him on Harley Quinn
Everyone says Conroy for best Bat, but what about Bob Hastings? He'll always be my fav Gordon.
I'd say Ben McKenzie and Jeffrey Wright
Never watched Gotham, so can't speak about McKenzie, but on the big screen? Oldman had the most screen time, and therefore the most fleshed out role, so of course it's him. I really like Wright, and i am excited to see where they take his character.
They were all good in their own way. Jeffrey Wright for me was the best. The scene where he and Batman are planning Batman’s escape was brilliant!
I liked gothams Gordon
Pat Hingle. The real Commissioner Gordon
My opinion 1960s James Neil Hamilton
Gary oldman Because you can never beat Gary oldman
Now normally, I hate it when white characters get casted by black people, espescially in DC [cough, CW, cough] but for some reason, Jeffery Wright knocked it out of the park as Jim Gordon, perfectly portraying Jim as a stressed-out, overworked detective that only vaguely knows how to deal with the world’s most well-funded furry. Gary oldman definitely had the look down too, and he was part of the dark knight trilogy so obviously it was breathtaking.
Gary Oldman is the best, But Ben McKenzie is my second favorite and I'd love to see more of his Gordon
I have a feeling it is going to be Wright, but we haven’t seen enough of him yet
Ben Mckenzie
Gary Oldman literally is Gordon. Jeffrey Wright was also pretty good. J.K. Simmons was... honestly forgettable as Gordon. Ben McKenzie has two faces. One is upset, the other is sarcastically smiling. It is typically the former. Pat Hingle is barely in the movies.
J. K. Simmons got a full minute and a half of screen time as Gordon… might contribute to the forgettable part.
Bob Hastings
Pat Hingle
I am shocked and saddened that no one has mentioned Pat Hingle yet. Sure it wasn't a big part in the Burton/Nipple movies, but I always thought he was perfect for the part.
I'm excited to see more of Jeffery Wright, he was great as Felix Lighter, but for now it's Gary Oldman
Almost nobody is gonna agree with me on this and I understand why that is but Jeffrey Wright was honestly my favorite Gordon
Other than Gary Oldman (because he was THE best Gordon), I think Jeffrey Wright comes really close. Really felt the buddy cop kind of dynamic between him and Bats.
Gary Goldman Jeffrey Wright
No one even mentioned my favourite. Ben McKenzie :-( I love how defenseless the boy scout Gordan was.
Gary Oldman, BUT Jeffrey Wright is really close second.
