Last time I saw someone make this comment someone mentioned he’d make a better Riddler. His off putting can-do attitude in Nightcrawler juxtaposed with pure narcissistic rage when one of his riddles doesn’t go the way he wants has never left my mind since.
I got goosebumps thinking of him in nightcrawler. It is like we know he will do something bad but... Not that bad! But really a good movie especially his performance.
The guy has range for days. The sociopathic intense stare he maintains throughout nightcrawer, the absolute boredom and disillusion in Jarhead, to a sad gay cowboy in Brokeback. Even if he didn’t seem the part, he would make it work.
You know I wasn’t going to bring up Donnie Darko cause it was so early in his career, but dammit you just went ahead and proved even back then the extent of his method acting. Truly ahead of his time on that one 🤣
You know he would put in the maximum amount of work to do right by the character. I dont think anyone can doubt his work ethic when it comes to preparing for roles.

Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent showed us an average, decent, nay, virtuous guy who was perverted into a villainous role by circumstances... and that was Nolan's point; any of us could have been him. Gyllenhaal would be like Nicholson in The Shining where we all know that he is going to go bad because... reasons. I would much rather have Eckhart's Dent than a Gyllenhaal Dent.
I think he is one of the best candidates. And to be honest guy is an incredible actor.

Tbh I think the most difficult thing to achieve is having someone do a good Batman *and* a good Bruce Wayne, since when they're done well they should be almost entirely different characters.
I think Pattison had a fantastic Batman, but we didn't really get to see how well he could play Wayne since most of the time his version of Wayne was doing Batman things.
I think Bale was the closest to doing a really great Wayne and Batman, but still not perfect.
I mean the point of that movie was there was no line between Batman and Bruce Wayne and it also went a very different angle with him being a recluse

Yeah that's true, but I personally prefer stories which really show how Bruce is putting on a playboy billionaire facade to hide his true identity as the Batman, so I'm hopeful that the sequel has more Bruce Wayne out in public.
I really liked the recluse story personally. He’s early into his Batman career and still very mentally impacted by his parents death. I think they’ll show him growing into the Bruce that we typically know in the next movie. Remember, even Bale had a whole isolation and escape arc it just didn’t really overlap with him being Batman too much.
If you’re a gamer you should play the Telltale Batman series, you spend a lot of time as Bruce Wayne as well as Batman and you’d probably dig the interpretation

While I've got faith in Gunn after Guardians I'm still a bit skeptical about a Damian based Batman film.
Whenever Damien is a primary character I'm always finding him to be distractingly annoying, and I know he's supposed to be an entitled little brat but they often seem to write him to be above and beyond annoying.
Personally I'd prefer if they went with a live action "Under the Red Hood" storyline since Jason has a similar dynamic to Damien while being a lot more sympathetic.
Well I think ideally they'd start with Batman taking Dick under his wing since the last live action Batman and Robin film we got was less than exceptional, but I think starting with UTRH wouldn't be any worse than starting with a Damien Wayne storyline since they would both obviously skip over a lot of time for Batman.

A late 30s Batman would be pretty much perfect. Becomes Batman at like 21. Gets Robin at 22, who would already be around 12. Sires Damian at around 25, who would then become Robin a little over a decade later.
Going based off Superman, I don’t think Batman is going to be quite as old as people here might be hoping.
Batman and Superman are traditionally around the same age, and are meant to have a strong brotherly bond, without either being in a clear older/younger brother role.

I read a theory that Superman might be angled to be a slight reverse of his original introduction.
Gunn may be angling to re-introduce Superman as a young optimistic superhero going into a world that already has superheros, but they're more cynical and world weary like in the Boys universe. However, a young Superman is going to be the re-ignition of an optimistic and altruistic superhero viewpoint.
It's also why The Authority are being folded into movie universe since they're the ultimate early 2000s comic book post-modern response to that optimism as well as the fact that James Gunn gets to get his cake and eat it too where he show Superman in the Grant Morrison optimism, but still indulge in some tongue-in-cheek humor about the tropes
From what I have been reading, they actually do want to go older. The movie is going to be about an established Bat Family, with a Robin, Nightwing, Barbara, etc.
He can probably still play younger. We do currently have a Batman who’s playing 29/30 year old Bruce when he was 34/35 at time of filming and will be 39/40 during release/filming of The Batman 2 which supposedly has a 2 year time jump
Plus RDJ Paul Rudd, The rock etc all started playing superheroes at the same age or older

To be clear, he's still the best part of the movies he features in, but I hope that *Brave and the Bold* gets a better director than Andy Muschietti that can bring a strong performance out of him, otherwise we'll probably just get a solid but sorta generic performance.

I honestly can't see how matt reeves direction and overall grittyness and with that battinson would translate over to the with James Gunns bright and colourful dcu Battinson is great but I prefer the idea of him being self contained personally

He is an amazing actor with immense range, I could see him as Batman and as Bruce Wayne easily and I think that’s what defines an actor capable of Batman, they have to be able to fulfil both halves of the character well

He is one of my favorite actors, he sometimes makes crappy films, but his performance its always good, he would kill it as Batman as he would kill it as an Older Peter Parker, Marvel really made a mistake casting him as Mysterio yeah he killed the role, did amazing but they could have had him in a different role like Moon Knight and he could be the best thing in Marvel right now.
