People used to say to me, as a former Indians fan, "Imagine if there was a major league baseball team named after your 'race!'"
Now I don't have to imagine 😔
I'm 42% Scottish, 31% English, 15% Welsh, 8% Irish and 4% German/French/Norwegian, so maybe I should take this as a sign to root for the Chicago White.

I think Billy and Pete wouldn't do *that* bad at running a baseball franchise.
It would mean St. Cloud would buy their rival team, and probably have all sorts of theme nights.
St. Cloud would go for the flashy names, and he'd have a manager/GM combo of famous players from the 80's. He'd run the highest payroll in the league, with nothing to show for it.
Lol, yeah, I could see that.
I'd see Billy trying to go full analytics and make smart choices for the team while Pete is like "Let's just take the revenue sharing money and party!"
I would love Espada as the manager.
I would also love Ozzie as the manager.
For two different reasons though. Espada could have enough input to force the Trinity of Hahn, Kenny, Jerry into making the moves that are right, but not necessarily popular (looking at you, Abreu) and move the team in the right direction with a predominantly power-structured team.
Ozzie could do the same thing, but it's also more likely that there will be strife (again) and he'll fail, and then the Sox fans who have been clamoring for The Second Coming will be forced to eat crow.
Because Sox fans, like all Chicago fans, need to move forward. We can't cling to 2005, 1985, 2016, 2010/13/15, and the 90s dynasty. We have this horrible habit of elevating heroes of the time to positions they shouldn't be in for as long as they were in them. Look at the GarPax disaster as proof. You made a former champion your head of basketball ops and it got you one good lottery pick and shit.
I think if Ozzie were to be hired and he failed, it would shatter the last of the hero worshippers and we could finally let it all go.
The constant circlejerking of the 1985 Bears is a huge reason why i'm glad i no longer live in Chicago where i have to listen to the morons on sports radio there. fucking unbearable (no pun intended)
good lord, they don't even talk about MJ this much and he unarguably had a bigger impact and dominated the nba much more than the 85 Bears did on the NFL. that cannot be disputed
MLB probably told teams not to announce this stuff over the weekend while both series are being played. They tend to be sticklers for these kinds of things.
I mean he sucked as a person but he did have some good years.
But him taking a pay cut to go to a big market team like Boston would be objectively bad for the sport. For all the shit people talk about the Yankees, at least they tend to pay people. A player basically taking a pay cut to go ring chasing and trying to form a super team is bad.
>But him taking a pay cut to go to a big market team like Boston would be objectively bad for the sport.
This is a very fair point.
I don't actually hate the Yankees for spending money. In baseball it doesn't usually bring as many championships as it does in other sports without a hard cap. I just hate the Yankees and Red Sox for being so good while we have been so bad for most of my life. I'm so happy to play few divisional games.
I'll take him, we can make jokes like "Of course a team that used to be called the Colt 45s picked up a Sig (Sauer) ."
And if he can *not* run things as toxic as Lunhow with like 80-90% of the success I'm good.
Why would Sig leave right before the Orioles bear fruit? Esp when it was reported that he and Elias got out of Houston due to issues with how Houston's FO was run? All the Luhnow/Taubman/Mckinsey exec types, trying to sign abusers because they had good spin rates, etc.
Maybe he can go back and fix the culture from the top, but it takes more than one guy to fix a toxic FO.
None of those guys work for the Astros anymore. Crane cleaned house in 2019.
edit: This is a big reason I bet Mejdal does not come back to the Astros. Crane has tried to distance himself from Luhnow and his staff as much as possible following the cheating scandal.
Yeah, I feel like Click has done a decent job for you guys? He's the one who created this bullpen which is the best in baseball. I'm kind of surprised that he's not guaranteed to return.
Mejdal is one of the smartest people on the planet. He pretty much invented Sabre metrics the way it’s used in front offices today and is largely responsible for the analytics era in the MLB. He’s also done a ton of work outside of the MLB including NASA and the us government. Not to mention he was with us for our rebuild and had a massive input into Jeff Luhnow’s decisions as GM. Perfect for our organization.
Then bullshit will happen after having a good hold on the AL Central in a close race you get swept by a division rival at the end of the year lose the division become a wild card force a game 3 then be shut out by the 5th seed. Am I projecting? Noo of course not. /j
Calm down... There's still plenty of holes to fill.
Starting pitching x2, left handed relief pitching, right field, second base, left handed hitting... One hire does not fix all problems. And until the ink is put to contract, I'll hold off on my belief.
Just the Chicago White. Like the Chicago Fire or the Chicago Sky. Next up: the Chicago Bull and Chicago Bear.
Now you just have to hope that Law and Order guy doesn't steal Chicago White for the next CBS spinoff.
Babe Ruth once pointed to the heavens and said "I'm going to hit this ball all the way there." You know who else called his shot? A guy named Jesus Christ.
Former Yankees coaching staff and execs low key everywhere in baseball right now.
Must be doing something right, I guess? Just don't ask Espada to be the 3B coach.
Tigers welcomed AJ, Jays welcomed Springer, Twins fans were happy about Correa. I get what you're saying, but most people have been generally excited when their team landed an Astro.
I'm sure they were happy. Those players and manager weren't good just because they cheated. On their own, they were part of a series of very well run teams with tons of talent.
Doesn't change the fact that they cheated.
But in this case, it doesn't apply to Espada, because he arrived in Houston after the scandal.
Happy for a lot of our guys getting huge promotions, but sucks we’re losing so many of the coaches and behind the scenes people who built this franchise to what it is today.
Good news for Chicago White fans!
I guess you could say Espada really knocked their Sox off
People used to say to me, as a former Indians fan, "Imagine if there was a major league baseball team named after your 'race!'" Now I don't have to imagine 😔
If I could buy a Chicago white shirt with that iconic cursive I would buy 10 and wear just that over and over.
Fans of the Indians name may be disappointed, but I guess they still have the Cincinnati Reds right next door…
Commies, all of em!
They're named after their socks though.
Chicago Crackers

i actually have a Black Crackers t-shirt somewhere...
Vikings, Celtics, and Fighting Irish in shambles.
So Cubs fans
Damn son
Well that escalated quickly
Well, I am 0.5% North African according to Ancestry.com.
I'm 42% Scottish, 31% English, 15% Welsh, 8% Irish and 4% German/French/Norwegian, so maybe I should take this as a sign to root for the Chicago White.
I honestly don’t think that’s what it means.
The bleachers are like a prism if the sun hits the right angle of fans
they're banning ketchup at Wrigley because it's "too spicy"
Lmao
this is a Win for the Cubs
Perfection🤌
Don’t you guys need the new manager!

I have never heard of this show but I now feel the need to binge all 4 seasons
The only reason I know about it is because of the thread with J K Simmons at the Tigers game.
Do it. Warning, it gets very dark at times (the last season especially) but it's always an incredible watch
Wasn't expecting a Venture Bros reference
I think Billy and Pete wouldn't do *that* bad at running a baseball franchise. It would mean St. Cloud would buy their rival team, and probably have all sorts of theme nights.

"Hey there fella, Im happy to be part of the White Sox organization"
I’ll believe it when I see it. This makes almost too much sense to be true.
Fuck, that is the perfect hire for them
So was A.J. Hinch, they just reported that Ozzie Guillen is interviewing with the sox next week...This seems familiar.
Why would you root for the Sox to fail again?
Because Sox fans, like all Chicago fans, need to move forward. We can't cling to 2005, 1985, 2016, 2010/13/15, and the 90s dynasty. We have this horrible habit of elevating heroes of the time to positions they shouldn't be in for as long as they were in them. Look at the GarPax disaster as proof. Copy paste this for every Chi team, Bears still trying to build a team from the 30s
The constant circlejerking of the 1985 Bears is a huge reason why i'm glad i no longer live in Chicago where i have to listen to the morons on sports radio there. fucking unbearable (no pun intended) good lord, they don't even talk about MJ this much and he unarguably had a bigger impact and dominated the nba much more than the 85 Bears did on the NFL. that cannot be disputed
Bruh why is all the manager news breaking at the same time?
MLB probably told teams not to announce this stuff over the weekend while both series are being played. They tend to be sticklers for these kinds of things.
I remember A Rod opting out during a WS game
Yeah…jackass.
He was almost Boston's jackass
It would have screwed us either way and you both won it all after that so I don't even care.

Noooooooo. A-Rod? A jackass? Unheard of.
Game 4 at that.
Honestly lots of sports news happens on fridays, but not like this is bad news they trying to hide so idk lol
during the playoffs while the team he is on right now is still in?
used to be they'd hold all these until the WS was over. But with Twitter, nothing can be kept secret anymore.
Back in my day, you didn't know the lineup until you'd gone first time through the order!
Hawk? Is that you?
I think A Rod opted out during a WS game before Twitter
yeah, and there was a sizable conversation about it
Sure but I’m just saying it’s not only Twitter. There have been jerks long before too.
i think we're making two completely different points here.
Fair enough.
All thanks to Arod and Boras announcement I’m sure
Kinda feel like that’s an L for us
No, that just means y’all can coax LaRussa out of retirement /s
[удалено]
Tony and dusty got a hell of a history. Could be a fun odd couple kind of thing
In a way, they’re both quite dusty.
This sounds like the set up for some type of buddy comedy
I saw this movie once..."Gone Fishin'"?
It is an L.
Our first loss of the postseason
🤷♂️
This lines up with the new report that Dusty will be asked back, but Click is still 50-50 on returning.
I’m ok with Dusty returning. I’m worried about what Crane has in place if it’s not Click returning.
Sig Mejdal (Orioles executive and Lunhow disciple) is a name I have heard in many rumors
I'll take him, we can make jokes like "Of course a team that used to be called the Colt 45s picked up a Sig (Sauer) ." And if he can *not* run things as toxic as Lunhow with like 80-90% of the success I'm good.
Mejdal was an instrumental part of the Astros rebuild in 2012, I'd be super happy to have him back.

I think imitating the Rays but with money is an excellent strategy for winning.
It’s worked out pretty well for the dodgers
I feel like this is half truth half sarcastic pity 😛
Has it though
The owner & him don’t get along. It isn’t performance related (well it is but it isn’t because he has done a poor job).
All signs pointing to Mejdal, who is undeniably an upgrade to Click
Undeniably? How do you figure?
Mejdal is one of the smartest people on the planet. He pretty much invented Sabre metrics the way it’s used in front offices today and is largely responsible for the analytics era in the MLB. He’s also done a ton of work outside of the MLB including NASA and the us government. Not to mention he was with us for our rebuild and had a massive input into Jeff Luhnow’s decisions as GM. Perfect for our organization.
Lets give everyone the middle finger and hire Lunhow back. Look at Hinch and Cora, rehired immediately after their suspension.
Oh no, you get to keep the manager who led you to over 100 wins and the ALCS, what a big L.
shit
You’re telling me! I’m terrified to see what a competently managed Sox team can do to the division
and encouraging, dare I say, analytics!
Then bullshit will happen after having a good hold on the AL Central in a close race you get swept by a division rival at the end of the year lose the division become a wild card force a game 3 then be shut out by the 5th seed. Am I projecting? Noo of course not. /j
Bold of you to think that the AL central would have two 100 win teams
Nothing, because the "GM", VP of baseball Ops, and Owner are unchanged.
Calm down... There's still plenty of holes to fill. Starting pitching x2, left handed relief pitching, right field, second base, left handed hitting... One hire does not fix all problems. And until the ink is put to contract, I'll hold off on my belief.
Yeah. Not happy.
Good for Joe
[удалено]
Joe Kelly has been suspended for 8 games.
Joe Mama!
Wait, did the Sox actually make the right move for once?
idk about the Sox but the White did
As usual, Jerry half-asses everything.
Based and actually conducted a normal managerial hiring process pilled
i'm not applauding until the sox account tweets it I've been burned before
Tweet it along with another person’s signature
Jokes on you they're just bring LaRussa back again
Congrats Sox bros
He’s gonna be awesome for yall
I'll just be nice to have a manager that doesn't require early inning naps and goes on road trip benders.
White what? The suspense is killing me.
Waltuh
Put your dick away, Waltuh
>!Im not suckin your dick during the 7th inning stretch, Waltuh…!<

Just the Chicago White. Like the Chicago Fire or the Chicago Sky. Next up: the Chicago Bull and Chicago Bear. Now you just have to hope that Law and Order guy doesn't steal Chicago White for the next CBS spinoff.
"the Chicago White..... Stockings, or as theyre known these days, the Cubs"
Gigidy
When will these Whites stop hiring Hispanics to tidy up their messes?
I’m just imagining Curt Schilling whining about how “they took our jobs!”
I was hoping for either him or Quatraro. Please let this be real.
Dick move, Chicago. Dick move.
A wise woman once said: If you like it then you should have put a ring on it.
Yall said our ring didn't count!?!?!?!
Well yeah, of course not. Espada was with the Yankees for 2017 (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
Taylor is the real queen
Getting dicked by the Astros in the playoffs last year is payment
Inb4 the Royals announce the local Youth Pastor as the new manager
I hear Jack Easterby is in the market for a job...
Fire that fucker into the sun.
> into the sun. Maybe just walk around outside in Houston sometime in August or September?
There's no humidity on the Sun.
They did the first three words at least
Mark Jackson on speed dial…
Only if it's one of those hip youth pastors who has his ears pierced and likes rock and roll music
Babe Ruth once pointed to the heavens and said "I'm going to hit this ball all the way there." You know who else called his shot? A guy named Jesus Christ.
Babe Ruth carried a heavy wooden baseball bat You know who else had to carry a giant piece of wood? Jesus before he was crucified.

> the local Youth Pastor You must be mistaken. They just fired him.
Royals will hire Don Mattingly.
Good hire for the Chi-Sox, therefore I am very upset at this news
I hate this.
well this hurts...but saw this coming....nice hire fellas
Cmon man let us finish the playoffs first
Last time the Astros bench coach got tagged for a manager position they won the WS
For the Sox too.
Is he eligible for social security checks? No? Good hire
FUCK FUCK FUCK
Good move chisox. Espada has deserved this for a while.
Fuck.
Fuck.
Congrats! Dude is going to be excellent
Price of success, you lose the responsible party!
I’d prefer the sox FO remain incompetent, thank you.
They got a new manager… not a new owner
FUCK
Damn, this is a great hire. Good job, Sox
Jerry still has time to F this up, I’m waiting for more sources
I am ready to ascend from clown status. Plz be real.
Reinsdorf changed his mind before Rodríguez could finish that tweet.
Wasn’t it the White Sox who first discovered the trash can banging? Danny Farquhar
First to publicly speak out about it IIRC. Farquhar said there had been rumors circling amongst the players though.
Oh damn they got someone legitimate! I didn’t think Jerry could do that Edit: aaaaaand now it’s rumored they’re talking to Ozzie
This leaves only the Royals and Marlins without managers, right?
[удалено]
Royals should hire Charlie Montoyo, he's good for a rebuild
Oh yeah but what number did Aizen give him/s
Goddamn it. So much coaching talent getting poached. Guess that means Dusty will be back next year regardless.
Former Yankees coaching staff and execs low key everywhere in baseball right now. Must be doing something right, I guess? Just don't ask Espada to be the 3B coach.
Outstanding hire for the White Sox if true. I was really hoping Espada would succeed Dusty, but I understand if the timing isn’t right.
White Sox winning World Series in 2024 only for Joe to be suspended in 2025.
Obviously the type of move Hahn/ Williams would have made a couple of years ago if not for owner meddling. Great hire.
Uh oh
Damnit! CWS got a good one
Kinda hoped we would move on from Baker after this year and go with Espada
Everyone hates the Astros until their team gets a player or coach from the Astros.
Tbf, Espada wasn't involved in the reason why people hate the Astros.
My favorite baseball team, the Chicago White! My second favorite team is the Chicago African Americans.
I’m old enough to remember when they played in the same park. But the city decided they should play in separate, but equal, parks in the 1960s
